Guns N’ Roses to Rock Out In Jakarta

Almost two decades after its peak, US rock band Guns N’ Roses is making its way to Jakarta for the first time.

The band announced on its website that it will perform at Lapangan D, Senayan, South Jakarta, on Dec. 15, led by vocalist Axl Rose, the only remaining member of the original lineup.

Guns N’ Roses was formed in California in 1985 and became one of the most successful bands of the late ’80s and early ’90s. The band went on a hiatus for several years before reuniting for the 2008 album “Chinese Democracy.”

The only other chance was the last bus, though it was the haunt of the weird and the sad drunks like her, but if she hurried Hazel would probably still make it. Pulling her shoulder wrap over her shoulders and hudling down against the rain, she began a half run half walk tottering on her sodden stiletto sandels down the road towards the bus stop. The wind and rain made Hazels nipples stiffen and rub uncomfortably against her blouse rapidly turning transparent in the wet. To make things worse, her bare legs were exposed to top of her thigh, and were stinging as the little drops of ice cold rain whipped againt her legs.

As a car hissed up alongside in a shallow puddle by the kerb, Hazel steeled herself for the lecherous comments, reflexively, she spun round ready to give them a withering comment... To her surprise, all of them mentioned that they are "sexy". Unsure about whether she misunderstood something, she tried to be as cool as possible when it was her turn to introduce herself, so she only stated her name and country of origin. On a recent trip to Bandung there was one thing that particularly struck my attention. While browsing through the different street stores, I discovered a flag shop. One of the big flags on display was - hold your breath - the swastika flag, which was placed near to the flag of Israel.

Even though there have been a number of anti-Israel and anti-American demonstrations going on here (including several bomb threats targeted at the American embassy which caused them to shut down operations for about a week), it would be wrong to link this observation to the ongoing middle-east conflict.

An Austrian envoy in Jakarta told me that when she was attending an International Aiesec conference in Hong Kong, one of the girls picking her up at the airport was wearing a T-shirt with the swastika emblem. It turned out that she was just not aware of the meaning of it, and apparently she's not the only one in Asia.
