last legs of physiology and histology. 4 exams for 2 classes in 2 weeks. med school kills me. sleep is overrated. I guess.

We played the T2s (2nd years) in powder puff football on Sunday.. and it was as ridiculous as it looks. Of course we won, and Coops was our mascot.. and what was even more impressive were our cheerleaders! It was a little chilly, but a great way to spend the day outdoors! Love my class.

If you've been around me at all over the past year or so.. you'll know that more times than not I can be seen studying/wandering/etc sporting my latest giant headphones. Since studying is now something I do more than sleeping and well.. anything else.. and I'd rather be in my music than chatting away to everyone about nonsense (which sometimes with med students in general has to do with classes.. and their general gunner demeanor. hello anxiety. I'll pass.).. I've opted for a switch between my previous ear buds of college to some higher quality headphones.

I started with these:

Skull Candy.

After about a year.. those were retired (against my will) for a pair of Sony black ones (New Orleans is somewhat lacking on their electronics stores.. and Walmart had slim pickings..).

And when I'm ready for a new pair.. I'm checking these out. Dopeness.

I love love. I wear my heart on my sleeve. and that's ok with me. Maybe it get's a little emotional, but I guess I'd rather feel something at some point, than nothing ever. Or something.

It does, however, appear to be something among the guys in my class (at least those that I have been mini-crushing on.. which, btw. poor idea) that they've never been in relationships, and don't want one. To me, not ever being in a relationship and you're post-grad is a red flag for me. A huge one. I get that people are commitment-phobic, or whatever.. but never having a relationship? Very curious. And sad.

Well. I've been in love. twice. and yeah, there are times where it's massively hard, but when it's good, it's amazing. You can't describe how just. great. it is. And of course, I've had some massively terrible dates, and guys I've dated, but my last relationship with JP keeps me optimistic I guess. Even though generally guys can be (and usually are, sorry y'all) extremely selfish and overall dummies, they aren't all jerks. Maybe if I didn't have such a nice and good guy as my last bf, I wouldn't keep wearing my heart on my sleeve in hopes for that again... but who even knows.

And really, idk what I'm doing as a single girl. I'm quite terrible at it, but I'm learning to enjoy myself more and more throughout this process. After this break, I'm getting back into my hobbies that I want to make time for (which is hindered by being slightly boy-crazy as of late). So back to running with Coops more, pilates, painting, music, fostering my new friendships in NOLA etc. Also, keeping my guy friends just as guy friends. That should be somewhere on the list.. a challenge for me for sure haha.

And currently, I'm watching the newest episode of Dexter (this season is crazyyy y'all!), poured a glass of wine, and eating leftover pizza.

Which can mean only one thing. ANATOMY IS OFFICIALLY OVER!!

Done. done. I won't be looking at anatomy again until I start studying for the boards. It feels. amazing.

Y'all. Anatomy is almost over. We have our (cumulative) shelf exam on Tuesday... and then it's all over. Genetic exam was on Thurs, marathon anatomy exam today. Holy. mackeral.

And all I can think about is the upcoming holidays. I miss my fam so much! I also miss my hobbies, free time, my dog (he's being boarded for exam week/Thanksgiving), my friends from home. All of it.

But I'm also doing exactly what I want to be doing. It is so utterly exciting and amazing. and hard. and overwhelming. and the best. sappy, whatevs.

So hello, Friday night. Usually in NOLA they're mixed with some sort of bananas happy hours to more drinks, to shenanigans throughout the town. Tonight? Wine. and more wine. and Dexter. and what's that? More wine. Hello. Divine. There's something very calming about having a quiet solo night every now and then. No studying (although I'm probably going to sleepily read over some high yield ish in bed later). No boys (as I've found out, they tend to be trouble.. or something. ha.). Phone's off. Heat's on. And I'm pretty happy, y'all.

All these days seem to blur together. Especially when we have one exam after another. Thankfully, our last Molecular Biochem exam was on Friday (and I passed the class, y'all! heyohh -- not that I was worried, but it did kick my ass to study for).. and then Halloween was immediately after. So it was just perfect timing for a fun, ridiculous weekend.

So. Pics in a nutshell.

I know it's been wayyy too long since I've posted. Life's been a hectic whirlwind. One exam after another. Early morning lab, after another, after many all-nighters.. after distractions after distraction.. barely time to breathe.

So. Here's the quick and dirty. and some pics of the post-block parties that help us keep our sanity.

My days in numbers:
Typical time I wake up in the morning? 6.
Daily cups of coffee: 8.
Hours of the day I spend at home, not counting sleep? 2.
Meals I eat out? All of them.
Friday night cocktails I have after class? 4.
Classes we're taking? 3. 1 of which is BS touchy feely.

IBD one of my favs, and I pre-80s night block party. Just finished our Biochem + Anatomy 2nd block!

HelloitsP -- clearly a soulmate of mine. As Tom Cruise Risky Business.

Times I've been to the gym? 0

Runs with Coops since school started? 6.

Dates I've been on? 1 -- with Lui!

Lui (our VP) and I! Love of my life. We both are lost when it comes to boys... but that's ok.

Concerts I've been to? 3: Shwayze, Juvie, and Magnetic Zeros -- Built to Spill tomorrow night!
New friends I've made? Countless. and our class seems to only be getting bigger.
Coffee shops I've become a local at? 3.
Emails that I desperately want/need to respond to from my fav hometown friends? At least 4. (love y'all).
Times I've been hit by a car on my bike? 1.
Times I've hit something with my car here? 2.
Unopened mail by my entrance? At least 40.
Times I've cooked a real meal that doesn't include eggs and/or cereal (or chef boyardee. or lean pockets)? 2.

Boxes of lean pockets I've consumed? Easily 12. in the past 2 months.

Last but not least. Go Saints! I'm a bandwagon fan -- but you reallyyy can't help it down here. It's contagious. Who Dat?!!

my loves. potluck dinner. which thanks to Pav's margaritas.. the night turned out to be a little bananas. Somehow, one of my classmates brought his roommates dog to the French Quarter, where I took it upon myself to be it's chaperone.. and crying randomly on the street when anyone suggested we leave him behind to go into a bar (hello drunk ladyyy). But thankfully, we found a good bar that let the pup in and all was well in the world.

..and this was all before everything got nuts with studying. my life has been taken over by gross anatomy. and this mini-break to post is about all I'll be getting until Friday.
