Near Infrared Analysis (NIR)

As a Process Analytical Technology (PAT) tool, the NIR (Near Infrared) analyser is the next generation technology for analysing solid and liquid chemical and pharmaceutical formulations. The patented design of NIR offers superior analytical performance with increased sensitivity and precise instrument matching to enhance method development, minimize implementation time and ensure seamless method transferability.

Near Infrared Analysis is perfect for the rapid non-destructive quantification of many constituents-including protein, moisture and fat. NIR analyser measures both liquid and powder samples without removing the sampling or optical accessories. The detector used is a DTGC detector. When changing between liquid and solid analysis, a simple manual lever is rotated to open or close a shutter between the side port and the top bench. Liquid samples are measured in transmission with disposable 8 mm vials. Powder samples are measured on the side port accessory in reflectance through disposable scintillation vials.

NIR analyser can be used throughout your manufacturing processes-from raw material inspection and in process testing to final product release. It is a relatively new technology for refineries to monitor main products, intermediate streams and unit feed. NIR analyser offered a low cost alternative to traditional gas chromatographs or distillation analysers. Unlike Gas Chromatographs, NIR probes are 100% optical, use no electricity and contain no moving parts. Multiple properties can be measured with one analyser head. NIR analyser is ideal to use in laboratories as well as in plant environments.

For pharmaceutical and chemical industries, NIR analysis provides increased economic benefits, improved tests and analysis on the dock, in the lab and on the process line. NIR testing is completely safe and requires no sample preparation. No harmful waste is created since NIR analysis requires no solvents or reagents. It can reduce the cost of routine testing by more than 50% depending on the application.

How to use it

Before testing, place the instrument on a horizontal, hard and stable surface away from sunlight. The warming up period is about 2 hours. The user should ensure that the temperature of the room where the analyser is stored be 10 to 40 degree C.

Near Infrared (NIR) analyser is used as a cost-effective means of measuring product or process consistency and quality control parameter in organic chemical-related or food industries.

Traditional laboratory methods are cumbersome, expensive and require trained personnel. These methods are too slow to allow sufficient reaction time for control of the process. Now, NIR analysers have replaced most of the traditional methods. These analysers can be placed directly in the production area and can be operated by plant personnel. The analysis time is less than one minute. This eliminates individual analysis on each constituent and saves manpower, training and time.

Fermentation is the process by which living organisms are cultured or grown to specific products. The products can be as simple as baker's yeast and alcohols and as complex as therapeutic proteins, antibiotics, enzymes and genetically engineered materials. Infrared Analyzer Explanation

The above diagram provides a graphic representation of the basic design of an infrared analyzer which is used to measure breath alcohol concentrations. The design is based on the fact that specific wavelengths of infrared energy are absorbed by ethyl alcohol molecules. In its simplest form, the instrument's detector measures the change in the amount of a specific wavelength of infrared energy that passes from the infrared source (lamp), through the sample chamber and filter wheel to the detector.

The change in response on the detector, as a breath sample is submitted to the sample chamber , is monitored and analyzed by a processor in the instrument. The change in the signal is used to calculate an alcohol concentration

The difference between the amount of infrared energy that reaches the detector when the sample chamber is free of compounds that absorb the infrared energy and the amount of infrared energy that reaches the detector when a subject's breath sample is within the sample chamber, provides an indication of the concentration of the absorbing substances in the sample . If ethanol was the only molecule found in a breath sample that would absorb energy at the wavelength being recorded by the detector, the calculated difference in infrared energy reaching the detector could be used by itself to establish the concentration of alcohol in the breath sample. Unfortunately this is not always the case.

Future regulations will, undoubtedly, focus on ways to improve accuracy and repeatability. One of the most obvious methods is the trend towards infrared and ultraviolet measurement technologies. Infrared, due to lower costs and more practical manufacturing methods will be more common. Not all gas components are optically active. One of the major exceptions is oxygen, and alternative methods will always be necessary in this case. There are enough means of measuring oxygen concentrations relatively accurately thanks to medical research anyway.

The most common form of infrared analysis is the Non-Dispersive InfraRed. These sensors operate on the principle that a gas will absorb infrared radiation of a specific wavelength. Basically, it measures how much of a particular wavelength of light is absorbed over a set distance and relates this to the concentration of a particular gas. The practice is, naturally, slightly less simple due to various factors such as pressure and temperature effects as well as the non-linear response of such measurements in general.

The latest result is the portable infrared analyser. Infrared analysers were always bulky and expensive instruments requiring temperature-regulated enclosures and humidity control. Now it is possible to produce such an instrument in portable form and make this technology trulyThe portable infrared analyser is ideal for measuring certain components such as carbon dioxide and methane. It can be combined with electrochemical technology for other components. An infrared analyzer in portable form covers all requirements for EPA compliance testing and also all European standards. transportable. Thus we have an analyser using the most modern technology at a fraction of the cost of earlier infrared fixed systems, yet retaining the accuracy associated with this technology. Particularly valuable for carbon monoxide and sulphur dioxide measurement (CO and SO2), it is also widely used for carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons such as methane, which are otherwise very difficult to measure.

Text Shadow

1. Open a new document. (The size I used is 500x100) Now type some text, doesn't really matter what. (I used Arial Black 36pt)

2. Now hit CTRL + A(=select all), CTRL + C(=copy) and then CTRL + V(=paste). You have now copied the layer. Move the new layer exactly above the original text layer.
Hit CTRL + T(=transform) and click the right mouse button, select "flip vertical". Now move the layer down by dragging it or using the arrow keys.

3. Hit CTRL + T again and now select "Perspective". Move the lower right box to the right.

You should now have something like this:

4. Now simply go to the layers window and lower the opacity of the "reflection layer" to whatever you want. (I used 25%)

1. First let's create some text. Here we used Impact.

2. Then we want to turn this text into a shape. This will allow us to transform its shape in any way we want. We can skew it and give it perspective. To do this go Layer > Type > Convert to Shape. After this is done, we will no longer have the ability to edit the text. So make sure you have your text the way you want it before you do this.

Above is what your canvas will look like when you have converted the text into a shape.

Next we are going to transform it. Go Edit -> Transform -> Perspective. Grab either the top or the bottom left corners of the transformation box. Pull the handle on the corner up or down depending on which corner you chose. This will apply a perspective transformation to the text shape.

Now that this is done, we will need to rasterize the shape in order to remove the shape path. Go Layer -> Rasterize -> Shape. This will create a truly rasterized image.

Notice how clean and crisp the text is after doing this. If we were to rasterize the type before we transformed it, we would end up with a fuzzy edge. By first transforming our text into a vector shape, we prevent this from happening.

This is a great little trick that you will probably find use for at some point. It only takes a second to do, but it makes a much better final product if you transform the shape first rather that rasterizing and then transforming.

1. We're gonna start off by creating a new document (CTRL + N). I made this one 500x100px. Add a new text layer. Now if you're smart you'll choose a bold font, because thin small will be hard to read once you "outlined" them. I used Arial Black, 36pt.

2. Now go to Blending Options (Right-click on text layer) Turn the "fill opacity" down to 0%. The text should have disappeared.

3. Select Stroke form the list (still in the blending options menu). Size: 2 pixels, Fill Type: Color. Then pick a color you think would be good for the outline and Voila!

1. Set #003100 (Dark green) as your foreground color. Now Use the text tool and type out what you want, I used Arial Black, 36pt.

2. Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian blur and click ok for rasterizing the layer. Set radius to 1.

3. Now go to Filter > Distort > Ocean ripple and set these settings:
Ripple size: 5
Ripple Magnitude: 10

4. Duplicate the layer and go to Filter > Sketch > Water paper and set this settings:
Fiber length: 42
Brightness: 70
Contrast: 64

5. In the layers toolbar set the blend mode to Hardlight, or whatever you think looks better.
Merge the two layers (Ctrl+E).

6. Duplicate the layer and go to Filter > Blur > Motion Blur and use these settings:
Angle: 90
Distance: 33
Set the blend mode to Hardlight.

1. Type some text. I used: TG using the font "Lucida console" the font color doesnt matter so just pick one.

2. Now go to Blending Options (Right-click on text layer).
Select (and modify) the following:

Dropshadow, color to #4B6B95
Innershadow, color to #304B98
Outerglow, color to #44CAFE
Innerglow, color to #314E9A
Bevel and emboss
Contour, now just double click on the little box and you'll see something like this:

3. Create 2 more points to have a total of 4 points and give them the following input-output values:
point 1: input: 0% output: 0%
point 2: input: 27% output: 4%
point 3: input: 59% output: 56%
point 4: input: 100% output: 99%
You'll see something like this:

4. Select satin, change the color to #60ACFF and change the contour to "ring".
And finally select color overlay and change the color to #B7E1F7.

This tutorial will teach you how to make text explode with light.

Create a new document in your copy of Photoshop.

Settings :

Now type some text with your pen tool

Use 48 pt, color black, the font is your choice.

The longer the text line, the more blur you will have to do. To keep it simple type in the word TutorialMan with caps and lower case.

Now we are going to rasterize our text layer. Right click on your text layer and select Rasterize. Your text layers will now switch from vector to pixel.

We're going to add a new layer now. Right click on the text layer you just rasterized and select Duplicate Layer

Select the new layer on your layer panel as your current editing layer.

Set your foreground color to white and click Edit > Fill.

Setting :

Now we are going to Blur your pixels: Select the menu Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur.

Changing your coordinate scale actually interprets that your pixel points have been in a
polar graph and regraphs them in a rectangular graph which is the normal graph most are familiar with. (if you took advvanced math in hs you may remember the polar graph) What we are doing is changing the way the pixels are oriented, applying an effect to them in that new state, then will change the graphing method back.

Select Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates.

Setting : Polar to Rectangular

Rotate your canvas to get your wind to orient correctly. Image > Rotate Canvas > 90 CW

Apply a wind to your active layer. Filter > Stylize > Wind.

Settings :

A little break in between. Your project should look something like this.

Apply wind a second time. Filter > Stylize > Wind

Adust the levelsby clicking Image > Adjust > Auto Levels

Click Image >Adjust >Invert

Apply wind a third time. Filter > Stylize > Wind

Apply wind a fourth and last time. Filter > Stylize > Wind

Rotate your canvas back to normal by clicking Image > Rotate Canvas > 90 CCW

Change your coordinates back by clicking Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates.

Setting : Rectangular to Polar

On the layer panel Set Layer Mode to Hard Light.

Now it is time to colorize your image. Click Image > Adjust > Hue/Saturation.

Be sure to :

Check the "Colorize" checkbox and play with the settings of
Set saturations up to the top
Select the Hue of choice
set your saturation down to the level you want .
And you should get something like this

1. First, create an image about 300 x 100 pixels, and 72 pixels/inch. Select a foreground colour of #CACACA, and fill the image, to make the background this colour.

When you've filled the background, then select your text tool, and add the text you want to add, make the colour of the text close to #3F3F3F A darker grey. Once done, you should have something similar to the image below.

2. OK, now we can add the shadow. It is as easy as adding a layer effect, and can come in very usefull for other things too. Go to Blending Options (Right-click on text layer).
Use the options below, to get the effect. You can always play around a little with these, if it does not suit. (The colour used for the shadow is #8A8A8A)

So once you have that, just click OK, and you should get your final result. It's as easy as that!

1. Create new file with 72 PPI and white background. The mode has to be Grayscale. Type the text with thick font.

2. Select > Load Selection

(Choose Layer Transparency)

3. Layer > Flatten Image

4. Select > Inverse

5. Filter > Pixelate > Crystallize (cell size 4)

6. Select > Inverse

7. Noise > Add Noise

(Guassian, Monochromatic, Amount. 70)

8. Blur > Guassian blur (Radius 2.0)

9. Image > Adjust > Curve
(make the curve as shown in fig.)

10. Press Ctrl + D to deselect

11. Image > Adjust > Invert

12. Image > Rotate Canvas > 90 CW

13. Filter > Stylize > Wind

14. Method : Wind Direction : From the Right

15. Image > Rotate Canvas > 90 CCW

16. Image > Mode > RGB

17. Image > Adjust > Hue Saturation

18. Click Colorize
