After a taunting EP release and no follow up international tour, Cold War Kids have gone back to the studio and are returning down under in early January. They'll play The Falls and some sideshows. Yippee!! JJJ have the deets.

The new LP Mine Is Yours is out late January.

The eleven-track LP was recorded in Nashville and L.A. with Jacquire King at the helm. Nathan Willet told Rolling Stone: "We wanted to do something more epic. On our last records, there are a lot of really kinky, out-of-tune vocal parts that are emotionally good — but this record was really about getting it right."

Cue 40,000 Italians singing Happy Birthday to Edge.

Daniel Lanois badly hurt in L.A. motorcycle crash

OTTAWA — Musician and producer Daniel Lanois suffered multiple injuries in Los Angeles last weekend, forcing him to call off a summer tour with his new group, Black Dub. His July 2 concert at the Montreal International Jazz Festival is among the concert cancellations.

Tickets for the July 2 show will be refunded at point of purchase only, a jazz festival spokesperson said.

Although the extent of Lanois’s injuries remains unknown, he remains in the intensive-care unit of a Los Angeles hospital. A spokesman for his label, Jive Records, said Lanois expects to be released soon but will spend the next two months recovering. His recent projects also include producing Neil Young’s upcoming album.

Lanois, who's 58, had recently signed with Jive to release the first album by Black Dub, a new group that also includes superstar drummer Brian Blade and 22-year-old vocalist Trixie Whitley.

Lanois is also scheduled to release an autobiographical book titled Soul Mining this year, and is producing the new Neil Young album.

Born in Hull, Lanois grew up in Hamilton, opened a studio with his brother and went on to an illustrious career working as a producer with artists such as U2, Robbie Robertson, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel and Bob Dylan.

An avid motorcyclist who earned his motorcycle license on a Harley-Davidson Sportster when he was 16, Lanois said in an 2008 interview with The Citizen that he does not own a car, but has several motorcycles, including a high-performance BMW sport bike and an old Harley.

“We of the iron horse, we don’t mix up too many things together,” Lanois told The Citizen. “We concentrate on what we’re doing. We also exercise that part of our brain that embraces telepathy so we anticipate what people are thinking around us, which is what I do for a living, with my music."

When he’s riding a motorcycle, Lanois said he is able to focus. “I’m not on the phone. I’m not multi-tasking. I’m not trying to do too much. I’m concentrating on one thing at a time, which is part of what makes music beautiful, and what makes life beautiful.”

Brando goes solo ... with Rilo!

Brandon Flowers has spoken about his debut solo album Flamingo, to Spin Magazine. Amongst other tidbits it seems he has recorded a song called Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas, has enlisted producer Danny Lanois, and for the true fans, a singer born in the same hospital as Ronnie Vannucci...

The Killers frontman ... gave his first interview about the fall release, dishing on his decision to go solo and revealing one of his collaborators: Rilo Kiley singer Jenny Lewis.

"Jenny's helped me out on a couple of songs, and we also got to duet on a song called 'Hard Enough,' which turned out great," Flowers told NME. "She's always popped into my mind whenever I think about getting a female vocalist involved because she's a fellow child of Las Vegas, too. A lot of people don't realize that, but she was actually born there, in the same hospital as [Killers drummer] Ronnie Vannucci Jr, only a few weeks apart!"
He added the tracks were writted with The Killers in mind, but ...

"To be honest, I personally would prefer it if this was a Killers record," he said. "I certainly never sat around dreaming of going out on my own, but singing songs and writing songs, it's kind of what I do, you know? And I just don't want to stop right now."

But the Killers certainly aren't done for good. In fact, Flowers sees Flamingo "as something that will only make the Killers stronger." "I feel like I'm getting something out of my system with this album, but I want the next Killers album to be a wonderful collaboration between four guys who are ready to make the best record that they possibly can."

Killer secret show

Brando was dressed down for the secret show which started at 2am...which is roughly 8pm normal (non Vegas) time.

Bono busks for charity on Grafton Street

Grafton Street came to a standstill late this afternoon when a group of superstar buskers gathered to give a unique performance.

Bono, Glen Hansard, Damien Rice and Mundy made up the remarkable group, who joined other volunteers who were busking to raise money for the Simon Community. Hot Press caught them performing three songs, before the set finished, prompting a huge and sustained round of applause from astounded passers-by.

"That was incredible," one stunned onlooker told Hot Press. "I was out innocently doing my shopping when I saw a crowd gathered. I couldn't believe my eyes when I had a closer look - you might expect to see someone like Mundy doing something like this for charity, but there were three huge stars there, giving it loads. It really added to the Christmas eve atmosphere. The only problem is I had one more present to get but the shop is closed now!"

By the time the set was finished, Bono had dematerialised into the night air, but Hot Press chatted to Glen Hansard, who had clearly enjoyed the opportunity to return to his roots, in a reprise of his role in the Oscar winning Once. He signed autographs, had his picture taken with kids and chatted to fans.

Among other songs, the superstar buskers played Bob Dylan's 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door' and 'You Ain't Goin' Nowhere' and a version of Mic Christopher's 'Heyday', which had hundreds singing along, with Glen Hansard - Mic's best friend - leading the line. The crowds responded by donating generously, with one Grafton Street shopper happily handing over €50 for the privilege of having seen one of the most star studded busking sessions in aeons.

Flight of the Conchords Just Took A Bus Out Of Town

Distressing news this week for fans of the musical comedy series Flight Of The Conchords; after two successful seasons the unlikely heroes are calling it a day.

For inconsolable conchords devotees, a statement was released on the duo's website advising that "While the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be around, the real Bret and Jemaine will continue to exist."
