noreply@blogger.com (Benjamin Hughes) — Mon, 2 Jan 2012 16:42:00 -0800

Underneath the Darkness belongs to the first horror shows in 2012, cost a lot is in reality more of an thriller, they have ample portions of this category that will deserve a review right here in the exact location. Particularly anyone, prefer us, tend to be most claustrophobic given it clears which has a chill stage in which Dennis Quaid's identity, Ely Vaughn, some small-town Arizona mortician, pushes yet another gentleman to hide him or her self survive. It will require a long time for us to realize this that has together with why's in the circumstances, as many of us accomplish, even when your answers are fairly foreseeable, your drive to acquire there were really interesting plenty of to make all of us reduce your filmmakers for the purpose of not the capacity to totally reinvent the particular wheel listed here.

Not to mention precisely what "wheel" can be that, most people inquire? A corner Window/Disturbia/Fright Nighttime convention involving another person suspecting some other for nasty perform as a consequence of the things they "thinks" the guy saw. Here you'll find it a small grouping of five secondary school young children who are persuaded Vaughn's family home can be haunted subsequent to spying on him or her and also seeing your ghostly pair grooving over the darkened home's windows whenever they happen to be sure Vaughn isn't presently there. Keep in mind if they type in your home to investigate additionally, important things get unbelievably awry, and next it's actually a suspenseful game involving pet and even rabbit concerning Ely plus the leftover contacts, constructed increasingly complicated for the children as a consequence of their long-term connectors using hometown law enforcement and their glorified popularity as being a star baseball gamer the government financial aid a single day. This really Arizona, since of course, given that you could have ever before seen Microsoft. Teegarden's recent string "Friday Nighttime Lights", you're certain that there are nothing additional significant rather than outstanding a situation world-class!

Nevertheless oh no - your film... Typically the quartet - Travis (Oller), Abby (Teegarden), John (Lunsford), along with Danny (Werkheiser) -- are played out simpler by your vibrant ensemble. Oller really does in particular clearly being the even more very sensitive member of the actual crew that will naturally Teegarden's Abby might be drawn to, a lot of for you to macho gentleman Brian's dismay. And yet genuinely, your star of this demonstrate is often a interestingly controlled Quaid. He will be actually menacing because naturally upset undertaker, and the identity arc as a result of beginning last part is pretty amusing to observe, specially in your film's closing scene. Not to mention, for the reason that alluded for you to previous, there may be well over just each of our thriller individual appearing entombed in existence within this report. That crazy claustro issue rears it's disgusting go a variety of times within Underneath the Darkness -- so much in order that it might have been safer to title them Underneath the Terrain.

Overseer Guigui and screenwriter Bruce Wilkinson can absolutely be commended intended for supervising that will breathe in a few outdoors right into this specific frequently timid as well as worn out sub-genre. We've already stated it turned out fun along with amusing, along with contemplating back on, there would be certainly not a new dull time. We've been only going into 2012, along with already we have now got undoubtedly one of much of our major surprises in the season. It appears to be Quaid is last preventing style. It can be undoubtedly worthwhile a wrist watch together with preferably may set in place your bartender a bit higher with regard to these particular motion pictures down the road.

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

noreply@blogger.com (Benjamin Hughes) — Tue, 13 Dec 2011 20:42:00 -0800

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is a 2011 spy film, and the fourth installment in the Mission: Impossible series. It stars Tom Cruise, who reprises his role of IMF Agent Ethan Hunt, and is director Brad Bird's first live-action film.[1] Ghost Protocol was written by André Nemec and Josh Appelbaum, and produced by Cruise, J. J. Abrams (director of the third film) and Bryan Burk. Following the world premiere in Dubai on December 7, the film will have preview runs in IMAX theaters in the U.S. and Canada from December 16, 2011, with general release on December 21, 2011. It is the first Mission: Impossible film not produced by Paula Wagner, and the first of the series to be partially filmed using IMAX cameras.

A terrorist bombing destroys the Kremlin while IMF agent Ethan Hunt is carrying out an undercover operation in Moscow. The Russian government categorizes the attack as "an undeclared act of war," prompting United States government to initiate a black operation known as "ghost protocol", disavowing the entire Impossible Mission Force. Hunt and his four-person team are allowed to escape from the government's custody as part of a plan to enable them to operate outside of their agency's command structure. However, when the IMF is ambushed, they are forced to operate without any kind of official support in an attempt to locate an intelligence source connected to the Moscow bombing and the attack on the IMF.

The film was originally announced with a working name of Mission: Impossible 4, and codenamed "Aries" during early production. By August 2010, title considerations did not include Mission: Impossible IV name, thought was given to not including the specific term "Mission: Impossible" in this entry of the franchise, which Variety compared to the Christopher Nolan's Batman film titled simply The Dark Knight.

The film was partially shot with IMAX cameras, which made up approximately 30 minutes of the film's runtime. Brad Bird insisted that the film was to be shot in IMAX, as opposed to 3D, as he felt that the IMAX format offered the viewer more immersion due its brighter, higher quality image, which is projected on a larger screen, without the need for specialised glasses. Bird also believed that that IMAX format would bring back "a level of showmanship" to the presentation of Hollywood films, which he believes the industry has lost due to its emphasis on screening films in multiplexes as opposed to grand theatres, and vetoing "first runs" in favor of wider initial releases.

Principal photography began by September 30, 2010.[citation needed] Filming took place in Dubai, Prague, Moscow, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Vancouver. Tom Cruise performed a sequence where Ethan Hunt scales the outside of the Burj Khalifa tower, which is the tallest building in the world, without the use of a stunt double.

"MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL," the new film in the series which has grossed $2 billion dollars worldwide, will feature locations in Dubai, Moscow, Prague and Vancouver.

The filmmakers have assembled a talented production team including Academy Award®-winning director of photography Robert Elswit ("There Will Be Blood"), production designer Jim Bissell ("Good Night, and Good Luck"), costume designer Michael Kaplan ("Blade Runner," "Star Trek"), Academy Award®-winning editor Paul Hirsch ("Star Wars") and visual effects producer Tom Peitzman ("Mission: Impossible III," "Alice in Wonderland"). Bird wrote and directed "The Incredibles," which was nominated for Best Original Screenplay and won the Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature. More recently, Bird received both a Golden Globe® and his second Oscar® for Best Animated Feature with "Ratatouille." Bad Robot partners Abrams and Burk worked with Paramount Pictures on the Abrams directed "Star Trek," which received an Academy Award® (Best Make-Up). Abrams also directed "Mission: Impossible III." His next project is "Super 8."

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

noreply@blogger.com (Benjamin Hughes) — Tue, 13 Dec 2011 20:33:00 -0800

Has there ever been a more widely accepted remake than this? What excites me most, other than how amazing Rooney Mara looks as Lisbeth, is the fact that David Fincher is releasing two films in as many years, since we all know how meticulous the director has been with his other, earlier films. And, okay, Fincher and Mara (and others) have made it clear their adaptation of Stieg Larsson's novel differs from Niels Arden Oplev's international smash. I love the original film trilogy -- although I feel like the first is the best in the series -- but is it rude to indicate that it's Fincher's version that makes me want to (finally) read the novels ahead of time?

Counting down the days until David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo hits theaters? Catch yourself re-watching the trailer with that kickass Trent Reznor cover of "Immigrant Song?" Wait, do you also think The Big Lebowski is the greatest movie ever made?
Then we might have the perfect trailer for you. It's mash-up of Lebowski using the song from Dragon Tattoo. Instead of shots taking us closer and closer to a mysterious home, we get the POV shots of a bowling ball going down a lane and a look at the Coen Bros. classic, as a serious crime thriller. Enjoy.

The English-language film is directed by David Fincher based on an adapted screenplay by Steven Zaillian. In early 2010, producer Scott Rudin began developing the project under Columbia Pictures, though Paramount Pictures were considering an adaptation in September 2008, when Alfred A. Knopf published the novel for the United States market.

By April 2010, Fincher was attached as director. Shooting began in Stockholm, Sweden in September 2010. Jeff Cronenweth replaced original cinematographer Fredrik Bäckar after eight weeks. Principal photography moved to Zurich, Switzerland in early December 2010, before breaking for Christmas. Production resumed at the Sony Studios and Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, then returned to Sweden in the spring.[citation needed] In May 2011, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer became a co-financier, putting up 20% of the film's budget, and getting some international TV rights.

Fincher pledged before filming began that the movie would not soft-pedal the book's content, which included rape, torture, bigotry and murder, and that it would be a "hard R". The movie has since been given an R rating by the MPAA for "brutal violent content including rape and torture, strong sexuality, graphic nudity, and language". The film has been rated 18 in the United Kingdom for "strong sex and sexual violence" by the BBFC. Similarly the film has been classified MA 15+ in Australia for "strong sexual violence, themes, sex scenes and violence" by the OFLC.

The director of the original Swedish version of the film has been quoted as saying 'Why would they remake something when they can just go see the original?'.

War Horse

noreply@blogger.com (Benjamin Hughes) — Tue, 13 Dec 2011 20:25:00 -0800

From director Steven Spielberg comes “War Horse,” an epic adventure for audiences of all ages. Set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War, “War Horse” begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets—British cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter—before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man’s Land.

The First World War is experienced through the journey of this horse—an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure. “War Horse” is one of the great stories of friendship and war—a successful book, it was turned into a hugely successful international theatrical hit that is arriving on Broadway next year. It now comes to screen in an epic adaptation by one of the great directors in film history.

War Horse is a 2011 British-American war drama film directed by Steven Spielberg and is intended for release in the United States on 25 December 2011 and in the United Kingdom on 13 January 2012. It is based on both War Horse, a children's novel set during World War I, by British author Michael Morpurgo, first published in the United Kingdom in 1982, and the 2007 stage adaptation of the same name.

The cast includes David Thewlis, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jeremy Irvine, Emily Watson, Tom Hiddleston, and Peter Mullan. The film is produced by Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, and executive produced by Frank Marshall and Revel Guest.[8] Long term Spielberg collaborators Janusz Kamiński, Michael Kahn and John Williams all worked on the film.

Michael Morpurgo wrote the 1982 children's novel War Horse after meeting World War I veterans in the Devon village of Iddesleigh where he lived. One had been with the Devon Yeomanry, and was involved with horses; another veteran in his village, Captain Budgett, was with the cavalry and told Morpurgo how he had confided all his hopes and fears to his horse. Both told him of the horrific conditions and loss of life, human and animal, during the Great War. A third man remembered the army coming to the village to buy horses for the war effort: horses were used for cavalry, and as draught animals, pulling guns, ambulances and other vehicles. Morpurgo researched the subject further and learned that a million horses died on the British side; he extrapolated an overall figure of 10 million horse deaths on all sides. Of the million horses that were sent abroad from the UK, only 62,000 returned, the rest dying in the war or slaughtered in France for meat. The Great War had a massive and indelible impact on the male population of the UK: 886,000 men died, one in eight of those who went to war, and 2% of the entire country's population.

After observing a young boy with a stammer forming a fond relationship with and talking fluently to a horse at a farm run by Morpurgo's charity Farms for City Children, Morpurgo found a way to tell the story, through the horse and its relations with the various people it meets before and during the course of the war: a young Devon farmboy, a British cavalry officer, a German soldier, and an old Frenchman and his grand-daughter.

Morpurgo tried to adapt the book into a film screenplay, working over five years with Simon Channing-Williams, but in the end they had to admit defeat. The book was successfully adapted for a stage play by Nick Stafford in 2007. To work dramatically, the story could not be told solely through the viewpoint of the horse (as it was in the book), and so the film version with a screenplay by Richard Curtis and Lee Hall is based on the narrative approach of the stageplay more than that of the book. Unlike the play with its puppet horses, the film uses real horses

The Darkest Hour

noreply@blogger.com (Benjamin Hughes) — Tue, 13 Dec 2011 20:17:00 -0800

The Darkest Hour is an upcoming 3D American science-fiction action horror film directed by Chris Gorak and produced by Timur Bekmambetov. The American-based production depicts an alien invasion in Russia and stars Olivia Thirlby and Emile Hirsch as young people caught in the invasion. The film has a release date scheduled for December 25, 2011 in the United States and Russia.

The Darkest Hour is directed by Chris Gorak and produced by Timur Bekmambetov. While most films about alien invasions are centered in the United States or have an international scale, Bekmambetov's involvement ensured the premise to be an alien invasion from Russia's perspective.

With a production budget of US$40 million, filming with 3D cameras began in Moscow on July 18, 2010. Production used resources from the Russian-based company Bazelevs, owned by Bekmambetov. Filming was temporarily suspended three weeks later due to the 2010 Russian wildfires affecting the city and its vicinity with its smog. By September 2010, filming had resumed, and it was announced that the release date would remain unchanged. As of April 7 though, the release date has changed to December 25, due to filming conflicts in Russia.

While the line for the Game of Thrones panel was wrapping around the entirety of San Diego, a select number of journalists were sequested away in the Hard Rock Hotel. What were we all doing in this room? The team behind THE DARKEST HOUR had gathered us all to see the world premiere of the trailer and learn more about the film. While this film wasn’t officially a part of Comic-Con, it was definitely the best thing I saw all weekend.

Inside the small suite, we saw exclusive production stills, the world premiere of the trailer, and heard about the creation of the film. Keep reading to learn what THE DARKEST HOUR is all about and why it outshined even THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.

As an avid Comic-Con goer (6th year running!), the highlight has always been the movies that surprise you most. Last year, it was COWBOYS & ALIENS, even though THE AVENGERS were the bigger draw. This year, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN was arguably the only movie everyone seemed to be interested in, simply because THE AVENGERS bowed out this year. So while I expected SPIDER-MAN to pull out all the stops, the lesser known projects are the ones that stick with me longer. IN TIME showed promise with their first trailer in Hall H, but THE DARKEST HOUR blew me away with the details about the film and the selectively debuted trailer.

We Bought a Zoo

noreply@blogger.com (Benjamin Hughes) — Tue, 13 Dec 2011 20:12:00 -0800

A single dad decides his family needs a fresh start, so he and his two children move to the most unlikely of places: a zoo. With the help of an eclectic staff, and with many misadventures along the way, the family works to return the dilapidated zoo to its former wonder and glory.

You’ve heard of a family moving out of the bustling city to the serenity of rural life before, but have you heard of one moving to an animal park? Probably not, but in We Bought a Zoo, a despondent Benjamin Mee, tired of spinning his tires in the proverbial mud and desperately looking to strengthen the strained ties with his children did just that with his family. It apparently worked, because 20th Century Fox picked up the rights to his book and the story is now their feel good movie for the Christmas season. The trailer below is standard fare, although I suspect it’ll still make some choke up.

We Bought a Zoo stars Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Thomas Haden Church, Elle Fanning, Patrick Fugit, Stephanie Szostak and John Michael Higgins.

Based on a true story, Benjamin Mee is a recently-widowed father who moves his family to a beautiful estate miles outside the city. The only catch is that the estate is also a dilapidated zoo replete with 200 animals, and the purchase of the home is conditional on the new owner keeping the zoo and its entire staff. The Mee family subsequently sets out to rebuild and refurbish the zoo to its former glory, making new friends along the way.

In the Land of Blood and Honey

noreply@blogger.com (Benjamin Hughes) — Tue, 13 Dec 2011 20:03:00 -0800

In the Land of Blood and Honey is an upcoming film depicting a love story set against the background of the Bosnian War. It is also the first feature film and directorial debut of actress Angelina Jolie and stars Zana Marjanović, Goran Kostić, and Rade Šerbedžija. The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on December 23, 2011

The film is set in Sarajevo and surrounding areas before and during the Bosnian War. Danijel (Goran Kostić), a soldier fighting for the Bosnian Serbs, re-encounters Ajla (Zana Marjanović), a Bosnian Muslim woman he was involved with before the war, and who is now a captive in the camp he oversees. Their once promising connection has become ambiguous as their motives have been changed by the conflict.

Plot Summary: Set against the backdrop of the Bosnian War that tore the Balkan region apart in the 1990s, "In the Land of Blood and Honey" tells the story of Danijel (Goran Kostić) and Ajla (Zana Marjanović), two people from different sides of a brutal ethnic conflict. Danijel, a soldier fighting for the Serbs, and Ajla, a Bosnian held captive in the camp he oversees, knew each other before the war, and could have found love with each other. But as the armed conflict takes hold of their lives, their relationship grows darker, their motives and connection to one another ambiguous, their allegiances uncertain. "In the Land of Blood and Honey" portrays the incredible emotional, moral and physical toll that the war exerts both on individuals and people as a whole, and the terrible consequences that stem from the lack of political will to intervene in a society stricken with conflict.

In July 2010 with the film already in pre-production, the producers approached the Serbian tycoon and media magnate Željko Mitrović over the usage of the sounds stages and studio sets owned by his Pink International Company's subsidiary Pink Films International in Šimanovci. However, he refused to do business with them, releasing a press statement: "Despite an opportunity to work with one of the most popular and most sought after actresses on the planet, which would've opened many doors in the movie business for our company, I've decided not to participate in this film in any way. I've held great affection and admiration for Angelina Jolie both as a person and as an artist, but unfortunately she's full of prejudice against the Serbs. I do not wish to be part of something that for the umpteenth time presents the Serbs as eternal bad guys

The film was shot in Budapest and Esztergom during October and November 2010. The cast were entirely local actors from the region, many who lived through the war. Jolie said she spoke with the cast about their experiences during the war and tried to incorporate them into the film. The film was also shot in two versions – one in English, the other in the local language.

Jolie explained the reason she wrote and directed the film was to rekindle attention for the survivors of a war that took place in recent history. In an interview with Christiane Amanpour Jolie said she felt a responsibility to learn about the conflict in great detail, adding, "This was, you know, the worst genocide since World War II in Europe ... What were we all doing? And did we do enough? And why do we not speak about this enough?"

During the shooting of the film, it was falsely reported that the story was about a Bosnian woman falling in love with her Serbian rapist, prompting protests from the Bosnian Women Victims of War association and the revocation of the filming permit. Jolie denied the rumors and presented the script to Bosnia's ministry of culture, which then quickly reinstated the permit

Here is our first look at Antonio Banderas in Jean-Jacques Annaud's upcoming adaptation of Hans Reusch’s "The Great Thirst," which is being touted as the biggest Arab-backed film production of all time.

The epic tale will follow the '30's-set rivalry between two Emirs in Arabia just as oil is being discovered while a young dynamic leader begins to attempt uniting the various tribes of the desert kingdoms. The film sees Banderas will play Nessib, one of the two rival Emirs, Mark Strong as his counterpart Amar, Tahar Rahim as Strong's son Prince Auda, Freida Pinto as Banderas' daughter Princess Lallah, Riz Ahmed as Auda's half brother Dr. Ali and Liya Kebeda as a slave girl.

Menno Meyjes ("Empire Of The Sun," "Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade") scripted the adaptation outlined by Annaud and Alain Godard, with lensing still taking place. Having shot since October in Tunisia, where it was actually caught up the recent Jasmin Revolution, the production recently moved to Qatar where they will "shoot battles scenes for four weeks in the desert dunes of Mesaieed."

"I am delighted to have started filming in Qatar," producer Tarak Ben Ammar announced. "We are filming in some of the world's most stunning desert landscapes and that will help 'Black Gold' look even more spectacular. Also, filming here gives me the opportunity to support and encourage the Doha Film Institute's vision of building a sustainable film infrastructure in the country."

Pina

noreply@blogger.com (Benjamin Hughes) — Tue, 13 Dec 2011 19:41:00 -0800

Pina is a 2011 German 3D dance film directed by Wim Wenders. The film premiered Out of Competition at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival. The trailer features the song "Lilies in the Valley" by Jun Miyake. The film has been selected as the German entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards.

During the preparation of the documentary about Pina Bausch, she died unexpectedly. Wim Wenders cancelled the film production, but the other dancers of Tanztheater Wuppertal convinced him to make the film anyway. It now shows these other dancers, talking about her and dancing in her honor, not just in the theater, but most of the time at various outdoor locations.

The film presents some of the most noted dance pieces by Pina Bausch in the Tanztheater ("dance theater") style; Bausch is a leading exponent of Tanztheater, and the film consists of her work, but she is rarely seen in the film, and died prior to the film coming out. The four pieces are titled Le sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring), Café Mueller (a café in the German town of Solingen, where Bausch grew up), Kontakthof, and Vollmond. These are complemented with interviews and further dance choreographies, which were shot in and around Wuppertal, Germany; the film has scenes showing the Wuppertal Schwebebahn, which is also one of the dance locations.

In the first piece, Le sacre du printemps, the dancers of the Tanztheater Wuppertal are moving about an unusual place – the stage is covered by a thick layer of peat, and light moves are impossible on this dance floor. This was intended, because in the ballet a chosen virgin is sacrificed to the god of spring. The following section, Café Mueller, describes a place where Pina often stayed when she was a child. In a simple setting consisting of some tables and chairs and doors, a small woman dressed in white is entering the café. Two more women, one of whom is obviously blind, appear. They hesitate to step further, as the tables and chairs are obstructing their way. Two men come around and try to remove these barriers. Eventually the blind woman and one of the men stand face to face. The second woman wraps her arms around the other men, but she slips. This part repeats and seems to remain in an infinite loop. The piece is about searching.

The next piece, Kontakthof, has dancers of different generations. It describes a situation in dance school at the beginning of 20th century. The piece consists of multiple performances with actors of different ages. The film merges this different performances to one scene, which shows the various abilities of the dancers. In the final piece, Vollmond, the whole stage is flooded. The scenery contains just one large rock and some chairs. At the end of the film, the actors face the audience on a small path with a brown coal mining region in the background to an open end.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

noreply@blogger.com (Benjamin Hughes) — Tue, 13 Dec 2011 18:52:00 -0800

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is a 2011 British-American action mystery film directed by Guy Ritchie and produced by Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey, and Dan Lin. It is a sequel to the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes, based on the character of the same name created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The screenplay is by Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney. Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law reprise their roles as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, respectively, as the duo join forces to outwit and bring down their most cunning adversary, Professor Moriarty, played by Jared Harris.

Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey, Jr.) has always been the smartest man in the room…until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large—Professor James Moriarty (Jared Harris)—and not only is he Holmes’ intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective. When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as construed by Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan), points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder—a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by one Professor Moriarty. Mixing business with pleasure, Holmes tracks the clues to an underground gentlemen’s club, where he and his brother, Mycroft Holmes (Stephen Fry) are toasting Dr. Watson (Jude Law) on his last night of bachelorhood. It is there that Holmes encounters Sim (Noomi Rapace), a Gypsy fortune teller, who sees more than she is telling and whose unwitting involvement in the prince’s murder makes her the killer’s next target. Holmes barely manages to save her life and, in return, she reluctantly agrees to help him. The investigation becomes ever more dangerous as it leads Holmes, Watson and Sim across the continent, from England to France to Germany and finally to Switzerland. But the cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead as he spins a web of death and destruction—all part of a greater plan that, if he succeeds, will change the course of history.

After the success of the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes, a sequel was fast tracked by Warner Bros. with director Guy Ritchie dropping out of an adaptation of Lobo and Robert Downey, Jr. leaving Cowboys & Aliens. It was unclear if Rachel McAdams would appear in the film. McAdams said, "If I do, it won't be a very big thing. It's not a lead part". On 4 February 2011, Warner Bros. confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that McAdams will play a part in the sequel.

The film is reported to be influenced by Conan Doyle's The Final Problem. While the film takes place a year after the events of the first film, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is intended to be a stand-alone film that doesn't require knowledge of the previous film.

In October 2010, Downey, Jr. and Jude Law were seen rehearsing a fight scene as shooting took place in Richmond Park, south-west London. In October 2010 steamship PS Waverley was chartered on the English Channel for filming, and a large green screen was erected at Didcot Railway Centre with a large action scene filmed there in mid-November. In late November, a scene was filmed at Victoria Bridge, which is part of the Severn Valley Railway. In January 2011 scenes were also filmed at Hampton Court Palace. Filming also took place in September 2011 in Greenwich at the Royal Naval College.

In early February 2011, principal photography moved for two days to Strasbourg, France. Shooting took place on, around and inside the Strasbourg Cathedral. The scene is said to be the opening scene of the film, as it will cover an assassination/bombing in a German-speaking town.
The film is scheduled to be released on 16 December 2011 in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom and 25 December 2011 in other countries.

Carnage

noreply@blogger.com (Benjamin Hughes) — Tue, 13 Dec 2011 18:48:00 -0800

Carnage is a 2011 black comedy film written and directed by Roman Polanski, based on the acclaimed play God of Carnage by French playwright Yasmina Reza. The film is an international co-production of France, Germany, Poland and Spain.

Carnage is a razor sharp, biting comedy centered on parental differences. After two boys duke it out on a playground, the parents of the "victim" invite the parents of the "bully" over to work out their issues. A polite discussion of childrearing soon escalates into verbal warfare, with all four parents revealing their true colors. None of them will escape the carnage. -- (C) Sony Pictures Classics

Winslet is the standout performance, her Nancy liquid courage writ large, going off on her husband and the Longstreets in a verbal assault accentuated by her increasingly drunken state. Waltz finds mannerisms in Alan that serve to infuriate even his wife and his smartphone is a vital prop that Waltz treasures as one would a small child, perhaps more.

The newest work of director Roman Polanski attract a lot of concern because of gathering such bright stars as Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz, John C. Reilly. Besides, the time Roman Polanski made this film is also the time he is hunted for raping a little girl in 1977.

Penelope challenges Foster, who scrunches her face and howls, looking awfully unpleasant — Penelope is hard to like, since she instigates the key argument and shields herself with faux idealism and a striving for an intellectual appearance while nursing a mean temper. Reilly’s Michael feels like a supporting performance and while Michael’s scenes one-on-one with Penelope reveal a shared history, Reilly comedy chops undercut his eventual descent into a foul-mouthed fit — there is a kindness that characterizes the actor and prevents Michael from truly making a mark.

Nancy (Kate Winslet, terrific) and Alan (Christoph Waltz, clearly relishing his obnoxious turn) Cowan drop by for a brief visit to tackle a seemingly minor issue — their son has assaulted the Longstreet boy with a stick in a playground confrontation. Reza’s script, touched up and Americanized by the playwright and Polanski, takes great pleasure in tackling the way we wield specific words to fuel our own power trips — mind the word “assaulted,” utilized by Foster’s Penelope and effectively a catalyst that launches first pits the Cowans against the Longstreets but then splits along gender lines and finally splinters as the foursome unleash their loathsome (and perhaps “true”) selves and then stop abruptly to survey the carnage.

The Italian Key

noreply@blogger.com (Benjamin Hughes) — Tue, 13 Dec 2011 18:38:00 -0800

The Italian Key is a 2011 film directed and written by Roosa Toivonen. The film follows the story of Cabella, a 19-year-old orphan girl, who travels to Italy after she has inherited an old key from her unrelated Uncle Max

In the film, Cabella (played by newcomer Gwendolyn Anslow) has never known her parents and has lived with her non-related Uncle Max for as long as she can remember. When Max dies and his upper-class relatives claim everything, Cabella only inherits an old key that Max has left her in secret. Sad and without much to look forward to, she travels to Italy and finds a run-down villa in a little village coincidently named ‘Cabella’ where she starts her new life and explores the mysteries of the house and slowly unravels her family history.

What could be confused as a boring, melodious feature, The Italian Key, manages to touch upon emotions of belonging, curiosity, and love. The film’s score by Tuomas Kantelinen is masterfully executed to match the majestic landscape of Italy and the deeply rooted emotions of the feature. The stunning visuals of the Italian landscape and a surprise subplot in India really carry this feature. One can’t help but feel pulled into the textures and quiet moments of the film.

The Italian Key had it’s world-premiere at the appropriately named Feel Good Film Festival in Los Angeles where it look Best Feature. The film has since gone on to win titles such as Best of Fest (Route 66 Film Festival), Best Film (Tulsa Int’l Film Festival), Audience Award for Best Feature (Temecula Valley Int’l Film Festival), Best Foreign Feature (Prince Edward Island Int’l Film Festival), Best Director (Tenerife Int’l Film Festival UK) and Best Music (Park City Film Music Festival).

We Need to Talk About Kevin

Archery Author Baby Based On Novel Broken Arm Brother Sister Relationship Character Name In Title Courtroom Steps Covered In Blood Crying Baby Family Relationships Father Son Relationship Guilt Guinea Pig Husband Wife Relationship Killing Spree Little Boy Loss Of An Eye Mother Mother Son Relationship New York New York City Nonlinear Timeline Office Party Parcel Potty Training Prison Visit Slap In The Face Small Town Suburbs Supermarket Teenage Boy Title Directed By Female Travel Agent Travel Writer Young Boy

That neither nature nor nurture bears exclusive responsibility for a child's character is self-evident. But such generalizations provide cold comfort when it's your own son who's just opened fire on his fellow students and whose class photograph--with its unseemly grin--is blown up on the national news. The question of who's to blame for teenage atrocity tortures our narrator, Eva Khatchadourian. Two years ago, her son, Kevin, murdered seven of his fellow high-school students, a cafeteria worker, and a popular algebra teacher. Because he was only fifteen at the time of the killings, he received a lenient sentence and is now in a prison for young offenders in upstate New York. Telling the story of Kevin's upbringing, Eva addresses herself to her estranged husband through a series of letters. Fearing that her own shortcomings may have shaped what her son has become, she confesses to a deep, long-standing ambivalence about both motherhood in general and Kevin in particular. How much is her fault? We Need to Talk About Kevin offers no pat explanations for why so many white, well-to-do adolescents--whether in Pearl, Paducah, Springfield, or Littleton--have gone nihilistically off the rails while growing up in suburban comfort. Instead, Lionel Shriver tells a compelling, absorbing, and resonant story while framing these horrifying tableaux of teenage carnage as metaphors for the larger tragedy--the tragedy of a country where everything works, nobody starves, and anything can be bought but a sense of purpose.

A key element in the novel is that the first-person narration invites our empathy: Eva was a successful woman and Kevin’s birth forces her to give up her career and the travel journalism that has been either a compulsion or a calling. What makes this worse is that the baby is not an easy child, but a squirmy boy tortured by colic, who develops into a recalcitrant toddler, a brooding child and finally a dangerous teenager. Eva does not like Kevin. It is this key insight which catches the attention – and it goes a bit further: Eva does not like Kevin. Kevin goes bad. Cause or effect?

Some parents do not like their offspring (either as children or as adults), and some people who have children (possibly including some watching the film or reading the book) are not ready to be parents, and resent the demands their children make on their lives. In the real world many people adapt to this and change their priorities, giving-up their careers and leisure; but some do not, and in some of these cases, this has a negative effect on the children. But this less-than-good-enough parenting doesn’t usually appear to result in mass murder, but the slow, relentless misery of an adult life built on insecurity or the simple lack of love. And given that the deficit and the distraction can be as much the father’s failure as the mother’s, some have wondered why there is the central focus in this film on the rôle of the mother in creating these tortured monsters. In my view, however, both the book and the film seem to avoid a simplistic allocation of blame, not least through the complex play of empathy and analysis, and an awareness (certainly in the novel) of the wider influences on Eva’s psyche.

Nonetheless, the fact is that some parenting – some mothering – is less than ‘good-enough’, and the effects on the children concerned can be devastating. That’s worth thinking about, and both the book and the novel make us do just that. This is an excellent film – it achieves something unusual, offering a thoughtful and filmic version of a very popular novel. It is a gripping, compelling and terrifying descent into distress, denial and egotism (and may result in you reading more bedtime stories, for a while).
