Pet food: We adore our pets, but what are we feeding them? – Philip Lymbery

Whatever angle we take, we adore our pets, and rightly so. They give us company, affection, and a reason to go for a walk.

Many of us believe that our cats and dogs transform a house into a home. Almost three-quarters of us consider our pets to be members of the family, and more than half of us believe the best thing about them is the affection they show us.

They are there to welcome us home at the end of a long day. In the case of dogs, they may lick our faces when we are upset. And they are enthusiastic about almost everything we propose. As I've previously stated in this column, my own dog, Duke, is both my best friend and my teacher. I think he knows me better than I know myself at times.

But what consideration do we give to the animals whose products we feed to our pets? A large portion of the meat used in pet food comes from animals raised under inhumane conditions.

"We keep one set of animals in industrial farms, where many never see the light of day," journalist and philosopher Julian Bagging wrote recently, "while we treat others as if we are honored to be guests in their homes."

Welfare standards?

With the exception of a small percentage, all dog and cat food is made with meat from the human food chain. The British Petfood Manufacturers Association (BPMA) claims that petfood companies have "limited influence" over the conditions in which animals are kept. Whether it's beef, lamb, poultry, pork, fish, or game, the chances of the ingredients coming from happy animals are often slim.

I asked the BPMA how much meat in pet food comes from animals raised to higher welfare standards; they couldn't give me a figure. The answer, according to the BPMA, lies in the proportion of animals raised to higher welfare standards in the human food chain, which is a small percentage for animals like chicken and pigs in particular.

When I asked the BPMA which of its members only uses higher-welfare meat, they didn't say, instead citing a "number" of unnamed members and saying it was a matter of "individual company policies."

I know from personal experience that some pet food companies take great pride in their animal welfare credentials: one such company, Honey's, only uses meat from animals raised free-range, certified organically, or in the wild.

Aside from concerns about animal welfare and pet food, there is also growing concerned about the environment.

Ant self-recognition

One novel idea is to feed insects to pets. Insect-based pet foods are now widely available, with benefits including a lower environmental impact and the avoidance of meat from intensively farmed animals. But what about the actual insects?

Although scientific understanding of insects' inner workings is limited, there is evidence that they can suffer. They have receptors that detect heat or injury, and honeybees have been shown to be capable of both optimism and pessimism.

Teachers have less patience with slow learners than ants do when they teach each other where to find food. The reaction of ants to the mirror test' is the most intriguing.

If they see a blue dot on their head in a mirror, they will try to clean it off. Scientists consider this type of response to be proof of self-recognition; that the ants can see themselves. It's more proof that insects should be treated with care.

The concern is that as the insect-farming industry expands, so will the possibility of industrialization, posing serious welfare concerns.

Only plants

Diets containing no animal products are another option to traditional meat-based pet foods.

According to a recent study by the University of Winchester, plant-based pet food is not only nutritionally equivalent to animal-based pet food, but pets fed a vegan diet exhibit the same levels of enjoyment.

The study's lead author, Professor Andrew Knight, believes that nutritionally sound vegan diets can provide the healthiest and least hazardous diets for both cats and dogs.

"Dogs and cats enjoy these diets just as much as meat-based diets." "There are also significant environmental benefits to switching our pets to plant-based diets," he explained.

As a result, our options for feeding our four-legged family members are expanding.

Regardless of what we put in their bowls, our pets are important to us and, in my opinion, play an important role in fostering a caring world.

Giving back to those who provide us with so much love and companionship is essential, and a big part of that is ensuring that we feed our pets in ways that keep them healthy and happy.

Concerns about what goes into their food, including animal welfare and environmental concerns, will, I'm sure, become more prominent with each precious feeding time.

Are your pets jealous of each other?

noreply@blogger.com (HAMZAO7AMZA.COM) — Sun, 27 Mar 2022 16:02:00 +0000

Are your pets jealous of each other?

What are some funny stories of one pet being jealous of the attention you give to another pet? Funny? Or annoying?

Yes, your pets are capable of jealousy. In fact, many owners have reported that their dogs display signs of jealousy when their human companions spend time with other pets. In some cases, dogs have even been known to kill other animals in their possession in order to protect their human companions. This display of emotion is usually seen in dogs who have been left behind and miss their owner.

how to stop dog jealousy aggression

One of the most common reasons dogs act aggressively is due to jealousy. Jealousy isn't just a human emotion; it's a canine one, too. When your attention is focused on another dog, object, or person, your dog can feel left out. Your dog may try to get your attention by growling, barking, or showing its teeth threateningly.

dog jealousy signs

Jealousy is a sign that your dog cares about you. It's one of the ways your dog shows his love for you. There are different types of jealousy, and it can happen for different reasons. But when you see your dog behaving in a way that seems out of the ordinary, it's a good idea to pay attention to what's going on.

dog on dog jealousy

Dog-on-dog jealousy is when one dog is jealous of another dog. It can happen because the other dog is the owner's favorite, or it can happen because the other dog is acting in a way that the owner doesn't like.

jealous dog behavior

Some dogs are more jealous than others. If your dog shows signs of jealousy, it can be a complex behavior to understand. But, in most cases, there are a few telltale signs that will help you determine if your dog is exhibiting jealousy or if there is something else bothering them. For example, jealousy is often accompanied by a decreased appetite, restlessness, and increased activity.

how to deal with a jealous dog towards the puppy

My dog, Marley, is very jealous of my partner, Lucy. She sometimes barks when Lucy and I are getting close or tries to get between us when we’re cuddling on the sofa. Sometimes, she barks when Lucy and I are doing separate things — for example, if I’m cooking dinner and Lucy is watching TV. Marley seems to think that she should be the only person I pay attention to.

how to stop my dog from being jealous of my partner

So you’ve finally decided to move in with your long-term partner. You’ve even picked out a date—in six months’ time. Now all you have to do is tell your dog. You can feel the tension building in the house already.

signs dog is jealous of baby

When your dog sees a baby, he might get jealous and try to get your attention. This behavior is commonly known as “jealousy” or “barking.” It’s common for dogs to feel this way because they want your time, love, and attention. It’s also common for dogs to show jealousy when they’re around a baby—especially if the baby is crying or doesn’t want to be held by the dog.

CAVU Venture Partners led a $6 million Series A funding round for Native Pet.

noreply@blogger.com (HAMZAO7AMZA.COM) — Fri, 25 Mar 2022 17:22:00 +0000

CAVU Venture Partners led a $6 million Series A funding round for Native Pet.

The new investment follows rapid retail expansion, which is fueling innovation and category growth in the pet supplement space.

ST. LOUIS, March 24, 2022 (PRNewswire) – Native Pet, a pet nutrition company that creates all-natural, highly effective, and limited ingredient dog supplements, announced today the closing of a $6 million Series A round led by CAVU Venture Partners, with participation from Mars' Companion Fund and Selva Ventures. Launched in 2017, the brand has already achieved significant growth milestones and plans to use this round of funding to continue that strategic growth online and in retail locations while expanding its innovative portfolio of whole-food pet supplements.

"We are still in the early stages of the pet supplement industry. The vast majority of consumers continue to rely on mass-produced daily meal regimens (like kibble). They're realizing that their dogs may have special nutritional requirements that aren't being met right now. Supplements provide a value proposition that kibble alone cannot. Using supplements results in a customized diet that is unique to their dog "Native Pet's CEO and Cofounder, Dan Schaefer, stated "Consider this: if humans use supplements to tailor their nutrition, why shouldn't we do the same for our pets? We have more control over our pet's diet than we do over our own."

"With the significant increase in pet ownership over the last two years, today's pet parents are increasingly focused on the health and well-being of their beloved animals," Brett Thomas, Cofounder of CAVU Venture Partners, said. "Native Pet is responding to the call of modern-day pet owners who want to go beyond traditional kibble to improve their pet's health with highly nutritious and distinct products. We are thrilled to be working with Dan and Pat as they reimagine pet nutrition in order to improve the health and happiness of pets worldwide."

Native Pet's innovative approach to supplement formulation makes it easier than ever to keep your pets happy and healthy. Native Pet's nine products are developed in collaboration with certified veterinary nutritionists and are function-driven to provide dogs with unique benefits based on need. They are effective, nutrient-rich, and delicious because they are minimally processed and made with whole-food ingredients. Dogs adore the taste, as evidenced by Native Pet's perfect palatability score during product testing.

The brand's most recent product launch, an air-dried chew collection, provides pets with targeted relief in an easy-to-use, protein-forward bite. These four new products – Calm, Relief, Allergy, and Bladder – are a clear continuation of Native Pet's innovative approach and truly distinguish the brand in the growing category. The chews are made from chicken, are gluten-free, and do not contain any oils or artificial flavors. Historically, the soft chew format has dominated the supplement category, requiring 10+ inactive ingredients to hold the chew together. This includes starches, oils, and fillers that have been processed under high pressure and have little to no nutritional value. Native Pet's air-dried formulation process uses far fewer inactive ingredients, resulting in a more nutritious product for your growing pet.

Native Pet's strategy is straightforward: create functional foods that add targeted nutrition to our pets' daily routines while providing effective results, clean ingredients, and truly delicious taste. Native Pet can be purchased at Amazon, Boxed, Chewy, Walmart, select Target locations, and on their website: https://nativepet.com/.

According to experts, there are 20 items that can clean up every pet filth conceivable.

noreply@blogger.com (HAMZAO7AMZA.COM) — Thu, 24 Mar 2022 13:37:00 +0000

According to experts, there are 11 items that can clean up every pet filth conceivable.

Every pet is unique and distinctive, but every pet parent has one thing in common: they love their pets but despise their pets' messes.

Pet messes are an inconvenient reality of pet motherhood, but careful planning, such as having the correct product on hand when you need it, will take the sting out of pet cleanup. We asked pet professionals — groomers, doctors, celebrity pet specialists, and pet parents on our team — what they can't live without when it comes to cleaning up after Fluffy or Fido. We've compiled a list of 20 of the best products to deal with just about any messes your pet could generate.

Professional Strength Stain and Odor Remover Skout's Honor

"This is my favorite enzymatic pet cleaner for a lot of reasons," says Dr. Zay Satchu, Bond Vet's co-founder and chief veterinary officer. "It is naturally fragrant, so there are no harsh chemicals, and for every bottle sold, the firm provides one day's worth of food to a pet shelter," Satchu suggests using an enzymatic cleaner, regardless of the type of pet cleaning you choose, to guarantee that even the smallest particles in the mess are broken down.

Adhesive Lint Roller Spotty Supersize Extra Sticky

$18.20 at Amazon

Satchu swears by this extra-large adhesive roller for removing pet hair from upholstery and fabrics such as her couch and duvet cover. "I use mine when I make my bed every morning," she explains.

2-Pack Nature's Miracle Stain and Odor Remover

$24.99 at Amazon

Julie Keck deals with pet messes on a regular basis because she has five dogs at home. Nature's Miracle is one of the top three goods she can't live without, according to the lady behind the super-popular Jackson The Dalmatian Instagram account. "This product is the greatest for pet messes," Keck explains. "One word of warning: you must use caution since it cannot be used on specialty textiles such as leather or silk."

Dyson V10 V12 Cyclone Cordless Vacuum Cleaner Direct Drive Cleaner Head Turbine Floor Tool

$112.27 at Amazon

"I use ours at least once a day, every day!" Keck says of her cordless Dyson vacuum cleaner. Dalmatians shed a lot, and this vacuum easily picks up dog hair.” Keck compliments the Animal's usability. "I like that it doesn't have a chord, so it's simple to grab and use as required." We've gone through numerous vacuum cleaners in our house, and this one is by far the finest!"

Hardwood Floor Cleaner with a Quick Shine

Keck uses Quick Shine's floor cleaning product to keep the filth and grime of five dogs at bay. "Because we have largely hardwood flooring in our house," she explains, "we have to mop very frequently." We use Quick Shine products since they do not contain harsh chemicals and are therefore safer for dogs."

Professional Strength Stain and Odor Eliminator by Rocco & Roxie Supply Co.

When Hayley Saltzman, our head of social media, has an awful senior moment, she reaches for Rocco & Roxie's pet stain remover. "My 16-year-old dog now thinks my entire flat is a bathroom," Saltzman adds, "therefore this stuff has been a lifesaver." Even the most revolting stains and smells have been regularly eliminated."

Bac-Out Stain+Odor Remover by Biokleen

Simply said, this is The Stuff for cat pee. If you have a cat, you know the cat will pee all over your possessions at some time in its small feline life to show discontent with a decision you made. Bac-Out (capital T, capital S) is The Stuff (capital T, capital S) that will save whatever Kitty has sprayed.

3-Pack Original German Super Absorbent Shammy Towels

$8.14 at Amazon

The first action after a liquid mishap is to blot up as much liquid as possible. A very absorbent towel is excellent for the purpose, although paper towels, dish cloths, bath towels, and other absorbent materials can also be used. Blot until no more liquid is absorbed, and then deal with any stains or smells.

Spot Clean Professional Portable Carpet Cleaner by Bissell

$164.79 at Amazon

A carpet and upholstery cleaner machine is the perfect equipment for the task when a deeper clean is required or to treat stubborn, set-in stains. These machines function by injecting cleaning solution into the fibers and then withdrawing it, removing foreign materials and smells and allergies. "This Bissell has saved my dog mama's life," says Rosanne Salvatore, our deputy editor, of the Spot Clean Pro, which tackles even the messiest of accidents with ease.

4-Pack Improvia Washable Underpads

$93.97 at Amazon

These washable pee pads can help senior dogs, their owners, and the environment. If your pet needs to use wee pads on a daily basis, disposable pads, no matter how convenient they are, may quickly become expensive and wasteful, making the transition to a set of washable underpads a viable option.

Aquapaw Bath Brush for Dogs

$44.95 at Amazon

Stephanie Griffin, our senior digital content strategist, has a cavapoo named Teddy who she says “loves the beach and anything that has to do with grass or mud,” making regular baths a must. She uses the Aquapaw Dog Bath Brush to bathe Teddy after a messy romp.

Rover calculates the cost of owning a pet in 2022.

noreply@blogger.com (HAMZAO7AMZA.COM) — Thu, 24 Mar 2022 10:40:00 +0000

Rover calculates the cost of owning a pet in 2022.

We all know that owning a dog may be costly, but the total expenditures are significantly lower than having a human kid. But how much does it cost to have a pet? Rover has the solution!

We learned how much keeping a pet can cost us in a recent press email we received on behalf of the Rover True Cost of Pet Parenthood Report for 2022. However, it is not all the information they offered about being a dog parent.

Rover was able to compile information on the realities vs expectations of being a pet parent, the influence of inflation on the cost of being a pet parent, and even how certain breeds can cost more or less than others using data acquired from over 1000 pet parents in the United States. Basically, if it comes down to how much it costs to be a dog parent, this research has us covered.

What did Rover discover about the cost of pet ownership?

Let's start with reality vs aspirations. According to Rover, most pet parents plan to spend less than $500 on their dogs. However, the fact is that the typical upfront cost for our dogs may range from $1050 and $4480! (That is a significant difference.)

From adoption costs to items, you may require as a first-time pet parent, the list of expenses appears to be practically limitless. (Remember, they need immunizations, injections, and other things!) As a result, instead of $500, some pet owners are spending $4480 on the first expense of taking home a pet.

Next, consider how inflation is affecting pet parents, or at least what they claim to be noticing right now. Apparently,

71 percent of dog owners said they've observed rising pet-related expenditures as a result of inflation. Another 73% are concerned about how much prices will continue to climb over the course of their pet's life.

And, given how simple it is to detect growing prices across the board (whether it's food, clothing, or activities), we're not surprised that pet parents are also experiencing rises when it comes to their furry (or not-so-furry) offspring.

One of the most intriguing things revealed in this survey is that pet parents prefer pets to infants. In particular, it was established that,

Because of the lower total expense, 10% of pet parents choose to have a dog to have a child. This is especially true for Generation Z (23 percent) and Millennials (22 percent ).

Of course, we can't help but notice that certain breeds are more expensive than others. Dr. Rebecca Greenstein, B.Sc., D.V.M., provided her opinions in the report on how a dog's breed might affect how much it costs. "At its most basic," she explained, "it may be about size, and size is a significant regulating element in expenses." Medicines, for example, are dosed depending on body weight."

On the list of most costly breeds, it appears that the Golden Retriever takes the crown (and your money) for average monthly expenses. The German Shephard, Australian Shephard, Goldendoodle, and Pit Bull are the next most costly breeds. The Labrador Retriever is just below that, on its own tier.

While they didn't cover every single breed available, this is still a superb selection of several extremely popular breeds. And it serves as a reminder that even the most popular breed of dog may be pricey at times.

So, when it comes to planning your next puppy, or even your first dog, it may make more sense to find out whether the puppy you desire will also come with a significant monthly cost.

FIXbend collaborates with Petco Love on a free pet immunization event.

noreply@blogger.com (HAMZAO7AMZA.COM) — Wed, 23 Mar 2022 11:32:00 +0000

FIXbend collaborates with Petco Love on a free pet immunization event.

(KTVZ) – BEND, Ore. – By sponsoring a free pet immunization event on Saturday, FIXbend is collaborating with the national organization Petco Love to provide pets the greatest chance for a healthy life.

Petco Love designated March as "National Pet Vaccination Month" to encourage pet parents to keep their pets' immunizations up to date, and will provide free pet vaccines to FIXbend for family dogs in need. As puppy and kitten season approaches, pet exposure to dangerous and fatal illnesses such as parvovirus, distemper, and panleukopenia rises but is easily avoidable with a simple vaccine.

Through this endeavor, FIXbend hopes to vaccinate 500 pets. The free immunization event will be held at Companion Pet Clinic Bend, 3197 North Highway 97, Unit A-1, in Bend on Saturday, March 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is required. The DAPPv Canine and HCP Feline vaccinations will be offered as part of the Petco Love project. Other vaccinations and microchips will be inexpensive.

"Thanks to Petco Love, we can provide these critical immunizations to pet owners at no cost," said Amanda Wheeler, Executive Director of The Rawley Project. "We encourage community members to use this free resource to assist limit disease transmission and protect the health and welfare of our community's pets."

The Give Pets Their Best Shot project makes critical pet vaccinations available to pet parents who may be facing financial difficulties, ensuring that cost is not an impediment to protecting pets from avoidable illnesses.

"Treatment for these terrible diseases can be too expensive for many pet parents," said Petco Love President Susanne Kogut. "We can assist these creatures to have a healthy life by delivering free immunizations to those in need." We continue our 22-year legacy of strategic investments and innovation to stop avoidable pet euthanasia with this nationwide endeavor and our other Petco Love Care projects."

National Pet Vaccination Month is an extension of Petco Love's 1 million free pet vaccine initiative, which has benefited 400,000 pets so far. Fifty percent of pet parents who took part in the poll said their pets had never been vaccinated against these illnesses. Petco Love's mission this month is to raise awareness and speed vaccine delivery with the help of the Bissell Pet Foundation.

Visit therawleyproject.org/fixbend for more information about The Rawley Project and FIXbend's vaccination event. Petco Love's national vaccine campaign and lifesaving impact may be found at petcolove.org and freepetvaccines.org.

A resident of Newcomerstown has launched a pet grooming business in West Lafayette.

noreply@blogger.com (HAMZAO7AMZA.COM) — Wed, 23 Mar 2022 10:52:00 +0000

A resident of Newcomerstown has launched a pet grooming business in West Lafayette.

Haley Vickers aspires to be a company owner in order to commemorate her late mother.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A Newcomerstown resident is opening a new grooming and pet business to fulfill her goals and her late mother's desires for a better life for her children.

Haley Vickers grew up with dogs and has also had a ferret, hedgehog, and pig as pets. She has always loved animals, and her enthusiasm for them only grew stronger in the last eight years, leading to the creation of All Paws on Deck Grooming.

"I honestly recognized over the last year, after seeing so many people seek for a groomer, that we did not have as many local groomers as the community could sustain, and that understanding is what sparked my new business ideas." "Being myself, I went in headstrong and full force and made it happen," Vickers explained.

Growing up in a tiny community like Newcomerstown and being raised by a single mother who battled to raise her children contributed significantly to his determination.

"Some people dislike tiny communities because everyone knows everyone, but for me, this is the finest place to live. People rise forward and do what they can in times of crisis. It is almost like one big family," Vickers said.

It's been difficult since her mother passed, but Vickers believes she's smiling down on her successes.

"I saw her suffer at times, and I knew I wanted to endure and achieve my goals so that I would never have to go through that hardship in life. Despite the difficulties, she was an excellent mother "Vickers explained. "However, I've always known mom wanted more for her children, which is why this new business is so essential to me."

Her best advice to anyone interested in starting their own business is to just do it.

"Keep trying for what you desire even when things get rough." Someone once told me, "You are the only one standing in the way of reaching your objectives." "I've lived by this since," Vickers remarked. "At some point in your life, you must realize that saying no to yourself is not an option."

Vickers said she's cooperating with a dog trainer for basic obedience training, and a boutique will sell dog-related things from local suppliers in addition to basic grooming services. One groomer has almost 20 years of experience, while another has only a few years and completed the vet assisting program at Mid-East Career and Technology Centers. In the future, Vickers intends to add a cat groomer.

"I want my clients to know that when they drop off their cherished pet, we will exceed their expectations," Vickers said. "Another feature we plan to provide shortly is a pick-up/delivery service for people who are unable to take their pet to grooming facilities."

All Paws on Deck Grooming will hold its grand opening on April 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. to noon on April 2. The address is 22560 Ohio 751, West Lafayette.

For additional information, contact 740-227-0105, send an email to allpawsndeck@gmail.com, or visit the company's Facebook page. All Paws on Deck will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

Editors' picks: 9 goods that our dogs truly liked.

noreply@blogger.com (HAMZAO7AMZA.COM) — Mon, 21 Mar 2022 18:17:00 +0000

Best 9 goods that our dogs truly liked.

We adore our dogs, as do many other people. So much so that when we test a pet product that works as it should and our pets are just as enamored with it as we are, we can't stop talking about it.

So, want to know what the greatest pet products are that we've tried and tested on our pets? Here are some of our favorite cat toys, dog treats, and other items.

Interactive Flutter Bug Cat Butterfly Toy by All for Paws

$21.99 $19.99 with 9% off coupon at Amazon

This is without a doubt the nicest toy I've ever purchased for Phoebe. The whirling butterfly entertains her for hours — and allows me to write without a cat sitting on my laptop or demanding for pets. The only drawback is that watching her try to capture the butterfly is so lovely that I find it difficult to concentrate on my work! (We're also loaded up on new butterflies in case the wings are ripped off.) — Chelsea Stone, senior business editor

Quinzee Dog Jacket by Ruffwear

$50.18 at Amazon

Miso has a thin coat and gets cold quickly, so we purchased her this Ruffwear insulated jacket to keep her warm on our morning walks and when we go camping. It's lightweight, packable, and has clips on both sides, so you don't have to pull up your dog's legs awkwardly to put it on and take it off. — Associate Editor Kai Burkhardt

Roverlund Pet Carrier for Out-of-Office Use

The Service Dog Rule: Do Not Touch or Distract Them

noreply@blogger.com (HAMZAO7AMZA.COM) — Mon, 21 Mar 2022 14:06:00 +0000

The Service Dog Rule: Do Not Touch or Distract Them

If you adore dogs, you've undoubtedly struggled to "mind your manners" in the sight of assistance animals. These canines are almost seductive because they are so lovely and carry themselves with such quiet dignity.

But we must resist.

The rule of thumb is to not touch or disturb the dog when he is on duty or training to serve. This is because associating with a working or training dog may endanger the other half of his team - his owner.

It may also disrupt the dog's attention and impair his ability to take up commands.

If you're unsure about correct etiquette while seeing a working dog, the following are some do's and don'ts regarding conduct in the presence of a service dog team (dog and owner).

DO SPEAK TO THE OWNER/HANDLER, NOT THE DOG, ABOUT BEHAVIOR AROUND A SERVICE DOG TEAM.

The service dog and her handler work together as a team. If you wish to chat with them, always approach the human first before approaching the dog. Remember, the animal is working, and her human life may rely on her ability to stay concentrated on her task.

DO NOT TOUCH THE DOG WITHOUT FIRST ASKING PERMISSION.

Touching or stroking a working dog might be distracting and hinder him from attending to his human companion. You don't want to get in the way of the dog's completion of a command or direction given by his person.

Fortunately, most service dogs are trained to remain in work mode until their handler issues a release order. As a result, many service dogs are able to disregard external pressures.

DO NOT PROVIDE FOOD TO A SERVICE DOG.

"Food is the greatest distraction to the working dog and can imperil the working assistance dog team," according to Canine Companions for Independence.

Food and treats are not simply a possible distraction, but many service dogs are given a specified diet and generally on a strict schedule.

DO show care and respect to the owner/handler.

Personal queries concerning a service dog's handler's impairment are not permitted. It's impolite and an invasion of privacy.

Assume the service dog team can manage the situation on their own. If you believe they may benefit from your assistance, ask first. And, if your offer is refused, don't take it personally; there's generally a valid reason for it.

DON'T BELIEVE A SLEEPING SERVICE DOG IS OFF DUTY.

All dogs, especially working dogs, take naps. It's totally natural and proper for a service dog to catch a few winks when her handler is sitting or standing for an extended period of time. However, she is still officially at work, so all dos and don'ts apply.

If a service dog approaches you, notify the handler.

Inform the handler if a working dog approaches, sniffs, nudges, or approaches you in any other way. Refrain from responding to the dog; the handler will reprimand the dog.

DO NOT BELIEVE that assistance dogs are never allowed to 'simply be dogs.'

Working dogs usually receive a lot of rest and playtime. When they go home and are no longer wearing their "work attire," they may be like any other dog. Because the work these magnificent creatures perform is sometimes demanding and stressful, their handlers understand that they require lots of relaxation and exercise.

The Week's Pet

The Week's Pet

Bagheera, our pet of the week, is a sweet little cat. Bagheera was taken to Happy Paws, DBCHS's low-cost, high-quality clinic, for a neuter appointment but was too unwell to go through with the operation. Sara, a fantastic foster, stepped in to care for the little man till he recovered. This flea-bitten infant is feeling better and thriving in foster care after a few weeks of TLC. He's been neutered and vaccinated, and he's looking for the "purrfect" family to adopt him.

"Bagheera is a really loving cat who enjoys being petted and rubbed!" says his foster mom. He does not, however, enjoy being lifted up and carried about! He adores other cats and has gotten along well with the dogs he's met. His fur is still patchy, but if he continues to eat well, he will be able to show off his lovely black hair! Tennis balls and cardboard cartons are his favorite toys."

Bagheera has been repaired, vaccinated, and is ready to return home. If you are interested in adopting, please contact me at karikuh@dbchs.org to schedule a meeting with Bagheera.

Did you know that? Happy Paws reached a significant milestone last year: since its inception in 2007, it has conducted high-quality spay/neuter surgery on almost 17,275 animals in Central Kentucky!

This accomplishment is even the more astounding given that there is only two personnel at this clinic: a veterinarian and a veterinary technician. The remaining 10-15 persons who look after the dogs and cats are all volunteers. This includes Katie Turbyfill, the clinic's director, who spends endless hours making sure everything goes well.

According to one volunteer, Happy Paws has volunteers like no other: they are committed, cohesive, fun, and hooked to chocolate! "This group with a shared objective has always been a pleasure to work with," stated another volunteer.

It's a good thing they enjoy one other because the work is difficult. Surgery preparation and post-operative care are both nasty jobs! It's also a long day, beginning before 7 a.m. and sometimes lasting 12 hours.

Dorothy Apple, Jennifer Back, Carla Bates, Charlotte Bright Norby, Bettie Byrd, Kathy Crown-Weber, Neil Eklund, Mary Beth Gay, Laurie Hood, Anita Jacobs, Cathy Jerome, Nancy Ketelhohn, Paula Meckes, Beth Minor, Bettie Poland, Brian Reynolds, Julie Rodes, and Rachel White all give Happy Paws program director Turbyfill and her current volunteer team four paws up.

Happy Paws was founded in 2007 in response to the problem of pet overpopulation in Boyle County. The services provided by the low-cost clinic are depending on income. Donate now to help the clinic, its volunteers, and the dogs and cats in our community: write a check to DBCHS, P.O. Box 487, Danville, KY 40423-0487. Scooby, despite his grumpy appearance, is truly a sweetie.

Meet Scooby, the Pet of the Week for March 21 at the Humane Society Pet Rescue and Adoption Center.

Scooby, an 8-year-old cat, is described as the shelter's "resident cranky cat." He is said to spend the majority of his time at the top of the cat tree, monitoring the facility's chat room, and isn't very playful with other felines.

They claim that beyond the crusty look, he's a lovely cat that likes being caressed.

Scooby may be seen at the Gadsden HSP RAC, 4200 Brooke Ave. The adoption fee for him is $50.

The shelter is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Tuesday, when it is closed to allow its S.N.Y.P. (Spay and Neuter Your Pet) program. Call 256-442-1347 for additional information.

Pets and Their Importance in Our Lives

noreply@blogger.com (HAMZAO7AMZA.COM) — Sat, 19 Mar 2022 13:23:00 +0000

Pets and Their Importance in Our Lives

We've all heard someone claim that pets are "just" animals as if they don't matter in our lives. These folks have most certainly never possessed a devoted dog or a loving cat, and their remarks could not be more false. Most pet owners realize how great it is to possess an animal; they appreciate the camaraderie and the amazing relationships that can be built between animal and human.

The advantages of keeping a pet are numerous.

They're Beneficial to Your Health

Did you know that touching an animal has been scientifically proved to significantly lower your stress levels? Spending 15 minutes stroking your beloved cat or dog will cause your body to release the following natural "feel good" hormones: oxytocin, prolactin, and serotonin. It also reduces cortisol, the body's natural stress hormone. Not only will this put your body in a calm condition, but it will also drop your blood pressure by 10%. If you have a dog, you will need to walk it at least once or twice a day, which means you will be getting some much-needed fresh air and exercise while also connecting with nature and bonding with your four-legged buddy.

The Shower You With Unconditional Love

Animals do not ask for much in life, and most of them only want a warm, safe, and sheltered place to live, as well as appropriate food, drink, and exercise. They will give you unconditional love, devotion, and friendship in return. Dogs are more well-known for their unconditional affection; cats, on the other hand, maybe a bit fickle! However, having a furry buddy means that you will always have a small living being waiting for you at home, eager to greet you with a wagging tail or a purr.

They Provide Emotional Assistance

It's amazing how much help an animal can provide in your life. According to MyPetNeedsThat, if you are extremely fragile or have unique requirements, certain dog breeds are ideal for giving emotional and physical assistance. A dog or cat may alleviate loneliness by providing company and someone to talk to, as well as sitting with you in the evenings. When it comes to depression and grief, pets can be lifesavers. When you are feeling particularly sad or nervous, they might provide you with a sense of purpose and a reason to get out of bed. Cats and dogs are examples of animals that may have a genuinely relaxing impact on people and can frequently pick up on their owners' feelings, such as cuddling up to you when you are sad or licking your hands when you are anxious.

Having a pet may broaden your horizons. If you have a dog, you will have to walk it every day, which means you will interact with other dog owners and walkers. This helps alleviate loneliness in persons who have a tough time making friends.

Playing with a cat or a dog might help you forget about your issues and focus on the "here and now." This is fundamental mindfulness, and it is excellent for mental wellness.

In conclusion, having a pet will alter your life and provide you a lot of joy and affection. They teach us responsibility, offer us unconditional love, and are always there for us when we need them. Dogs require more upkeep but provide several health advantages, but cats, rabbits, and gerbils are low-maintenance, require little activity, and offer our lives new meaning and purpose.

Is it a good idea to put a bell on my cat's collar?

noreply@blogger.com (HAMZAO7AMZA.COM) — Sat, 19 Mar 2022 12:24:00 +0000

Is it a good idea to put a bell on my cat's collar?

How can you stop your cat from harming wildlife? Keep the cat indoors or attach a bell to its collar! You make the decision.

Before you affix a bell to your cat's collar, weigh the benefits and drawbacks.

Is it common for your cat to bring you dead animals? While this typical behavior is unpleasant, it is also sweet — your cat is delivering you what she considers to be a good present. Despite their good intentions, domestic cats' hunting is wreaking havoc on ecosystems and driving certain species to extinction. So, how can you prevent your cat from capturing wildlife? Keeping her indoors or attaching a deterrent (such as a bell) to her collar are the two main options.

A deeper look at the alternatives

Of course, the simplest way to discourage your cat from killing birds and rodents is to keep her indoors all the time. Your feline's exposure to prey animals in the safety of your home will be restricted to any mice that chance to come inside your house. If you don't want to put a stop to your cat's wanderlust, a typical solution is to attach a bell to her collar to prevent wildlife from her approach. Is this, however, a safe and effective option?

The Benefits and Drawbacks of Bells

A lot of studies have been conducted to determine whether bells aid in the escape of prey from cats and the general conclusion is that they do! Bells on collars appear to cut the number of prey trapped in half, which may be enough to eliminate the threat to ecosystems.

Aside from effectiveness, many pet parents are concerned that a bell would injure their cat's ears. A collar bell produces sound at roughly 50-60 dB, according to Veterinary Ph.D. student Rachel Malakand, although studies have shown that cats are unfazed by sounds under 80 dB. While some anxious cats may respond negatively to the sound of the bell, the vast majority of cats are unlikely to care.

Some owners are concerned that, in addition to alerting prey, a bell would notify huge predators of a cat's location. While this is feasible, considering most predators' keen hearing, the comparatively low ringing of a bell is unlikely to be the difference between your cat being discovered or not. If you live in an area where your cat is at risk of being attacked by large animals, you should definitely keep your cat indoors or oversee their outside activities nonetheless. You may also get a cat cage, which will allow your kitty to enjoy the fresh air while being secure!

Alternatives to Bell

If you don't want to put a bell on your pet, there is another option: cat bibs. These brightly colored gadgets, sold under brand names such as Birdsbesafe, warn potential victims of the cat's proximity before they attack. While your cat may look ridiculous wearing a rainbow bib, a scientific study suggests that these items cut predation rates by nearly the same amount as bells. However, gadgets that use color to notify potential prey function considerably better on birds (who have excellent color vision) than on tiny animals (who generally have quite poor vision).

If you're afraid about putting collars or collar-mounted gadgets on your cats, you shouldn't be. While there is a prevalent concern that cats would be strangled or imprisoned if their collars become entangled in the trash, real harmful consequences of collars are uncommon. One research examined 107 veterinary clinics and discovered just one collar-related injury per 2.3 years, with collar-related deaths extremely infrequent. You may alleviate your anxieties even more by wearing a breakaway collar.

If your cat goes outside, especially if you live in a region where endangered animals exist, please help conservation efforts by providing your cat with an anti-hunting device.

Garlic Toxicity and Animals

noreply@blogger.com (HAMZAO7AMZA.COM) — Fri, 18 Mar 2022 16:31:00 +0000

Garlic Toxicity and Animals

Een a trace amount might be toxic.

Many people believe that garlic can help prevent heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, fleas, and even certain types of cancer.

However, these putative medical advantages are ineffective for our pets. Garlic, in fact, may be poisonous to dogs and cats in certain amounts, and poisoning can be fatal if not handled promptly.

Why Is Garlic Harmful to Pets?

Garlic is a member of the Allium family of plants. Onions, shallots, leeks, chives, and rakkyo are all members of the Allium family (otherwise known as the Chinese onion).

Garlic, like other members of the Allium family, contains chemicals known as disulfides and thiosulphates that, if consumed, can be hazardous to cats and dogs. Garlic consumption causes hemolytic anemia, Heinz body anemia, and methemoglobinemia, all of which are manifestations of red blood cell destruction. Garlic components, in essence, can cause the red blood cells moving through your pet's body to become extremely fragile and rupture.

How Much Garlic Is Dangerous to Pets?

"Garlic is roughly 5 times more concentrated in terms of toxicity than onions," says Dr. Ahna Brutlag, a board-certified veterinary toxicologist, and director of veterinary services at Pet Poison Helpline.

When it comes to onion toxicity, remember the following rule of thumb: In cats, as low as 5 g/kg of onions or 15 to 30 g/kg in dogsled in clinically significant red blood cell damage. Onion toxicosis is routinely observed in animals that consume more than 0.5 percent of their body weight in onions at one time, according to scientific investigations.

Because garlic is more concentrated than onions, even a tiny amount swallowed might result in toxicosis—as little as one clove of garlic can cause toxicity in cats and small dogs.

Please keep in mind that the toxicity level of eaten garlic might vary depending on a pet's weight, breed, and past health history. If you believe your dog or cat has eaten garlic, call the Pet Poison Helpline at (855) 764-7661 or your veterinarian right once.

Garlic Toxicity Symptoms in Dogs and Cats

It's crucial to remember that symptoms may occur many days after your pet eats garlic.

This illness can cause vomiting and diarrhea, as well as anemia signs such as lethargy, pale, yellow, or "muddy" gums, fast breathing, and an accelerated heart rate. Your pet may also have stomach discomfort and colored urine. While vomiting and diarrhea may begin within one day, signs of anemia may show many days to a week after your pet consumes garlic.

Garlic Cloves Preventing Garlic Toxicity in Pets

While large amounts of garlic pose a great risk to pets, your pet can also get poisoned by chronic intake of little amounts of garlic over time.

Pet owners who believe garlic prevents fleas should proceed with care.

"The use of garlic as a flea or tick repellent has been studied and proven to be useless," Brutlag explains. "It is not advised for this purpose, especially when used in conjunction with established therapy." It not only makes your pet sick, but it also makes them vulnerable to deadly infections like Lyme."

If you use garlic supplements for yourself, make sure you take precautions to safeguard your curious dogs. Several incidences of cats and dogs swallowing garlic tablets that were left on the counter have been reported to the Pet Poison Helpline. Some need treatment for severe anemia.

Garlic, onions, chives, and other similar items should also be kept out of reach. Brutlag recounts a Labrador lab who ate salsa-making components that were left out on a kitchen table, including fresh garlic, tomatoes, and onions. While the dog's owner raced to the market to pick up some last-minute ingredients for the meal, the dog helped himself to the ingredients, consuming at least two bulbs of garlic and numerous onions. He had severe anemia and required a blood transfusion. Fortunately, he recovered completely!

When introducing new food or supplements for your pet, the best advice is to always see your family veterinarian first.

Pet House's Contented and Healthy Reptiles

Pet House's Contented and Healthy Reptiles

The new owner of the Goleta store continues the store's tradition of providing excellent service.

As the happy owner of a lizard and other reptiles over the years, I'm well aware of how difficult it can be to locate a reputable pet store. Too many exotic "specialists" handle reptiles like livestock, purchasing them from shady sellers and storing them in confined cages. Or, like at a handful of unnamed establishments, animals are routinely pawned off on impulse-buy clients who may have seen a fantastic YouTube video or two but have no idea what they're getting themselves into.

Fortunately for us, Pet House in Goleta is one of those rare locations where snakes, lizards, tortoises, and other delightful scaly things are humanely housed and sold to knowledgeable consumers. "We know where our animals come from," said owner Andrea Navarro, "and we always make sure our customers know what type of care they require."

Navarro, who began working at Pet House as a cashier while studying marine biology at UCSB, purchased the Calle Real business from its former owner, Wendy Guyer, a registered veterinary technician with scrupulously high standards for animal care, in January 2021. Navarro is carrying on that legacy, and as a longtime admirer of all animals, particularly frogs, she is the ideal person to monitor the store's happy and healthy collection of reptiles and amphibians, not to mention its diverse variety of birds, fish, rats, and other small mammals.

Pet House mostly stocks snakes and lizards that are resilient, simple to handle, and make excellent first pets, according to Navarro, who met her husband at the business and now has two children, ages 9 and 11. Leopard geckos, bearded dragons, corn snakes, and ball pythons are examples. They're gorgeous, calm, and you never have to bother about walks or litter boxes with them. There's also the unmistakable cool factor. "They're absolutely cool," Navarro said, "but I usually tell people to consider before they commit, since some of these men can live for 10, 20, 30 years."

For those looking for something a little more advanced, the shop also has veiled chameleons and rainbow boas, as well as more "oddball" offerings like Guyana pink toe tarantulas and Madagascar hissing cockroaches, as Navarro describes them. She said that they don't carry anything that will grow to be too large, such as monitors or sulcata tortoises.

Navarro went on to say that the staff takes pride in designing and building their in-store terrariums and that they source plants from the nearby Terra Sol Garden Center. Their "feeders" (crickets and mice) are purchased exclusively from a seller in Agoura Hills, whom they have known for years. While the outbreak caused the price of reptiles around the country to increase and even treble as individuals took up the pastime and supplies were depleted, the market is finally beginning to level off, according to Navarro. Despite the fact that their total company declined, Navarro and Pet House's team of ten managed to keep the doors open at all times. They now provide pickup and delivery as well.

Can Dogs Be Autistic?

noreply@blogger.com (HAMZAO7AMZA.COM) — Wed, 16 Mar 2022 17:26:00 +0000

The pet be autistic

What Exactly Is Autism?

Autism is characterized in humans as an illness that affects the neurological system, and symptoms and indicators can range from trouble being in social situations to communication challenges to showing obsessive interests and repetitive activities.

Furthermore, persons with autism may be incapable of comprehending emotions and nonverbal signs. Dogs can display comparable tendencies, however, this is referred to as "canine dysfunctional behavior" rather than autism in veterinary practice.

What Is the Cause of Autism in Dogs?

Autism in dogs, also known as canine dysfunctional behavior, is an idiopathic illness, which means it has no recognized cause. What we do know is that it is congenital, and dogs who display dysfunctional behaviors are born with it. According to research, dogs with canine dysfunctional behavior do not have particular mirror neurons in their brains, which are thought to assist canines to acquire social standards.

Reflect neurons are so-called because they enable young pups to "mirror" older dogs and other canines in order to learn how to behave in a social situation. A dog will be unable to gain the abilities required to form social bonds if these neurons are not present.

As autism research and education develop, veterinary experts and dog owners are realizing that canines, like humans with autism, may behave and experience the world in similar ways.

Veterinarians first noticed autism-like symptoms in dogs in the 1960s, and the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (ACVB) recently published research on tail-chasing behavior in Bull Terriers and a probable relation to autism. The research looked at 132 Bull Terriers, 55 of which pursued their tails and 77 of whom did not (the non-tail-chasing control group). The study discovered that tail-chasing was more common in males, was connected with occasional hostility and explosive behaviors, and was associated with trance-like behaviors. Although not conclusive, these findings showed that tail chasing in dogs might be a type of autism.

How is Autism in My Dog Diagnosed?

A diagnosis of autism in a dog can be challenging due to a lack of evidence, but the dog should display repetitive activities and some degree of poor social interaction with both canines and people. Of course, your veterinarian should rule out any other medical or behavioral issues before making this diagnosis.

Veterinarians can administer a variety of behavioral tests to observe how your dog reacts to various situations, but these tests are not always conclusive because other illnesses, such as canine anxiety, can cause autism-like symptoms. Because canine dysfunctional behavior lacks a spectrum like human autism, doctors must rely on behavioral indicators and compare them to what is deemed normal for dogs.

It's important to highlight that these symptoms begin when your dog is a puppy, and it's a hereditary illness that isn't caused by external things like the environment or immunizations. Please consult your local veterinarian if you feel your puppy or young dog has autism.

What are the Signs of Dysfunctional Canine Behavior in Dogs?

Here are some of the most prevalent signs of autism in dogs that your dog in Sewell, NJ may be exhibiting.

Behaviors that are antisocial

Dogs are inherently sociable creatures who like playing with other dogs, humans, horses, and cats. If your dog refuses to associate with other dogs and animals, this might be because of concern. Another cause for concern is if your dog does not pay attention to you during walks, feeding, or playtime. Any queries you may have can be answered by your veterinarian.

Communication Problems

Most dogs quickly transmit their moods and sentiments, either by wagging their tails when they're joyful or welcoming you as you walk through the door. Dogs may tilt their ears back, wag their tails, and roll on their backs, displaying their bellies, when they are scolded for bad conduct.
Dogs with autism, on the other hand, may be unable to convey these moods and sentiments, and their personalities may look "flat." In some circumstances, autistic dogs may go into trance-like states, looking in one direction for extended periods of time, and they may avoid direct eye contact with people and other dogs as if they are unable to look you in the eyes.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Repetitive movements are another feature of autism behavior and can encompass a wide range of behaviors such as circling a room repeatedly, chronic tail-chasing, or compulsive teeth grinding. Other repeated activities include a toy or item lining and excessive chewing.

Inappropriate Stimulus Reactions

Another indication is abnormal responses to new stimuli, such as yelping or barking at the smallest contact of your fingers. As with autistic children, dogs with autism see things differently and can be hypersensitive to any type of input, such as a gentle touch on the head, which might lead your dog to react in pain, aggressiveness, or fear.

Autistic dogs may also overreact to abrupt noises, maybe due to a lack of capacity to cope with new experiences and objects. Furthermore, these dogs dislike unfamiliar places or circumstances and may frequently return to a secure and familiar location, such as beneath the bed or in a closet.

It's essential to remember as a dog owner that having a dog with autism doesn't imply you're doing anything wrong, but you can work with your veterinarian on strategies to help avoid improper reactions.

Lethargy/Tiredness

Many of the other symptoms mentioned so far might lead your dog to be weary and sluggish, and dogs with autism prefer to relax in a familiar, comfortable environment rather than going outside or playing with other dogs. They may display a lack of interest in almost everything around them, which is especially alarming if your dog is a high-energy breed.

Physical Activity Reduction

As previously said, autistic dogs prefer to avoid high-energy activities, are sedentary, and avoid interacting with humans and other dogs. Of course, if your dog is acting sluggish, you should consult with your veterinarian to rule out any medical concerns.

Autism in Dogs in Sewell, New Jersey

If your dog has been diagnosed with autism, you can work with your veterinarian to identify "triggers" that may cause behavioral outbursts. For example, if your dog is scared or violent when walking on a leash in a crowd, avoid crowds; if your dog is especially fearful in a dog park, avoid crowded dog parks.

A walk down a peaceful hiking track may be a better alternative. You may also experiment with approaches used with "special needs" dogs. Try commercially available wraps that offer calming pressure to the body for anxious dogs, or educate your dog to carry a doggy backpack loaded with soft weight. These methods have been found to benefit persons with autism.

Autism in Dogs: How Is It Treated?

A qualified veterinarian should first diagnose any canine problems, and any physical illnesses should be cleared out before delving into any underlying mental concerns. If your dog has been diagnosed with autism, your veterinarian may advise you to try some of the following therapies.

Medication

There is no singular therapy for autism in dogs in veterinary medicine, however, your veterinarian may prescribe specific drugs that can help alleviate symptoms and give respite for obsessive behaviors. A veterinarian may prescribe Fluoxetine (Prozac), which is used to treat OCD and autism in humans, as well as other drugs that can help calm your dog and stop aggressive tendencies.

Provide a Safe and Secure Environment

Because autistic dogs appear to be terrified of almost everything, it's critical to provide a safe environment for them. If your dog is frightened or uneasy in crowds, among other dogs or animals, or in new, unfamiliar environments, make sure you have a safe and secure area for your dogs to go, such as a dog-kennel or dog-bed.

Provide a Stress-Free Environment

Avoiding circumstances that cause stress and anxiety in your dog is also vital, and if your dog does not want to be caressed, follow her preferences and do not pat her. If she doesn't like meeting new people or dogs, let her alone, and don't urge her to do anything that may stress her out.

Exercise on a regular basis

Regular and consistent exercise may help relieve anxiety and tension, as well as keep your dog's mind active and provide a welcome respite from obsessive habits.

Provide a Well-Balanced Diet

A well-balanced diet can also assist, and your veterinarian can advise you on the best meals and feeding schedules for your pet.

Reinforcement Learning

You can also consult with positive reinforcement trainers or therapists. Look for a trainer that has worked with dogs who have behavioral disorders, since a skilled dog trainer may be a vital component of managing a dog who has autistic tendencies.

If you believe your dog is exhibiting any of these indicators of autism, or if you are just uncertain, you should call your veterinarian immediately so that they can provide a proper diagnosis and a plan of action if your dog does have autism.

How do you change the owner’s information on a pet chip?

Transferring a Pet's Microchip

Registration to a New

Transferring the Registration of a Pet's Microchip to a New Owner
Pets, as we all know, can change owners many times over their lifespan. Changing family circumstances are an unavoidable part of life, and dogs may need to be re-homed for a variety of reasons. When pet ownership changes, one of the most commonly asked questions is, "What should I do about their microchip registration?"
Understanding the Operation of a Microchip
First, it's critical to understand how a microchip works. When a microchip is implanted in your pet, it comes with a unique identifying number that will be connected with the pet for the rest of its life, just like a social security number is provided to humans in the United States.
Any universal scanner at a vet's office or animal shelter may scan the microchip and detect the number. The number is then linked to the information you gave on the microchip registry, such as your pet's name, age, gender, date of birth, and medical information, as well as your contact information, such as an address and phone numbers.
When you rehome your pet, you must transfer the creature's microchip registration to the new owner so that the microchip number is connected with the proper person. If your pet is registered in the Michelson Found Animals Registry, you can transfer a pet's microchip registration to a new owner by following the steps below:

1. Log in to your account to transfer ownership of a pet that is presently registered to you.

2. Then, beside the pet's name, click "Transfer."

3. The system will guide you through the process of moving the pet to the account of a new owner.

4. The new owner will be contacted through email, text message, and phone call to accept or reject the transfer.

5. This transfer must be accepted or rejected by the new pet owner within 7 days. We will finish the transfer in 7 days.

6. Once the pet has been transferred, it will no longer be visible on your account.

What if my pet is already registered with a different registry?

If your pet is already registered with another registry, such as AVID or HomeAgain, you (or the new owner) must contact that registry directly to request that the microchip registration be updated in their database.

The Michelson Found Animals Registry is, as always, completely free. There will never be a price to use our registration!

3 Problem-Solving Products for Dog Owners Who Want to Make Life Easier for Their Pup in 2022

3 Problem-Solving Products for Dog Owners Who Want to Make Life Easier for Their Pup in 2022

Our dogs deserve the world, and these innovative goods will enable them to begin enjoying their greatest lives this year.

1. A step-in harness that comes in seven different sizes to guarantee that your dog enjoys a secure and pleasant stroll. Oh, and it has over 68,000 5-star reviews, so we know people will adore it as well.

This is especially useful if your dog has a habit of pulling and choking itself when you take them on a walk. The lower versions of this harness, according to reviewers with little breeds, really suit their dog's petite frame.

Review that is promising: "My dachshunds receive a lot of remarks on how adorable they are, and the fit is great. Even after miles of hiking, neither of my dogs developed a rash or chafing. My little female pup has sensitive skin and some mild alopecia (hairless patches) in her armpits, and she has never been irritated by this harness. It's loose enough to wear over a sweater in the winter and breathable enough to wear in the summer, but it's also tight and secure

2. A pair of waterproof dog boots to protect your dog's paws from uneven surfaces, scorching pavement, or sharp thorns. With them on, your dog will be able to move freely, and you will be able to relax knowing that he is safe.

In the summer, my family puts them on our Goldendoodle since he loves to go around our pool and gets roughed-up, bloodied paws. He really walked like a newborn deer when we initially got these for him! But after a day or two of wearing them inside the home, he's started wearing them outside and walks/runs normally with them on! The Velcro straps keep them in place even when he's zooming around the pool trying to get splashed.

"Awesome booties," says one promising reviewer. These babies don't come off. She runs, leaps, and does everything she typically does except scratch if necessary. (You'll just have to wait, that's all.) I purchased a size 6 for my 50-pound female pity. She's little yet strong. I live in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. Every day, we walk a few miles. There are no sidewalks in our neighborhood. Road salt is a concern when it sleets or snows. She wants to off-road it, as most dogs do, so it's in the snow, on the street, repeat. These prevent her paws from being clogged with snow and salt. It's a little difficult at first to get them on, but it gets easier. If you get these, make sure to put them on your dog.

Get it from Amazon for $28.99

3. A dog water container, which allows you to effortlessly bring drinking water everywhere, keeping your dog hydrated even on the warmest days. If your dog enjoys accompanying you on treks, this is a must-have!

Review that is promising: "This is the BEST water bottle I've ever seen on the market. It contains a locking mechanism to prevent leaks and spills. It comes with a straw on the inside, so you can collect every last drop. A folding bowl for the dog to drink from. It also reduces its size, making it easier to transport. A strap that may be worn from your belt loop, wrist, or backpack loop, among other places. I really like the color selections. This is an absolute must-have!" Michael C.

Amazon has it for $9.49+. (available in four colors and two sizes).

Pet food is being sent into Ukraine by the Red Cross and Humane Society International to help relieve the country's animal care issue.

noreply@blogger.com (HAMZAO7AMZA.COM) — Tue, 15 Mar 2022 09:59:00 +0000

Pet food is being sent into Ukraine by the Red Cross and Humane Society International to help relieve the country's animal care issue.

HSI applauds the Romanian Red Cross for unparalleled cooperation in assisting individuals with animals in times of war.

Sibiu, Romania (March 15, 2022) — The Romanian Red Cross and the animal welfare organization Humane Society International have entered into an unusual arrangement to bring critical pet food into Ukraine to assist combat an escalating animal welfare crisis.

Hundreds of animal shelters, veterinary clinics, and rescue centers, as well as thousands of families with pets who have remained in Ukraine, are struggling to find food for the animals in their care, and providing veterinary care for injured or sick animals is becoming increasingly difficult as supplies run out. In appreciation of the apparent desire of Ukrainians to care for the animals caught up in the conflict,

"In times like these, we at the Red Cross know that our most significant resource is kindness and compassion," says Raluca Morar, executive director of the Romanian Red Cross Sibiu county. Our humanitarian convoys will not only provide goods to individuals in severe need but also the hope that aid is on its way. In times like these, we realize that not only people, but even animals, require assistance. We are grateful and honored to have Humane Society International on our side, ensuring that much-needed pet food reaches Ukraine via our convoys. The first tonne of dry pet food has arrived at our loading station in Sibiu and will be sent to Ukraine in the coming days."

"As this violence continues, people and animals in Ukraine are suffering alongside each other, particularly in those animal shelters and households where leaving animals behind has simply been an unthinkable option," says Andreea Rosetti, Romania director of HSI/Europe. We are glad that the Romanian Red Cross has recognized that the situation of animals in conflict is intrinsically linked to the misery of the humans who live with them and are sincerely concerned about their well-being. We have contributed one tonne of emergency pet supplies, the first of many that will be distributed by the Red Cross throughout Ukraine to help prevent a deepening animal welfare catastrophe. There are many pet dogs and cats roaming the streets that have been separated from their owners.

HSI is also collaborating with local animal welfare organizations in Germany, Italy, and Poland to assist Ukrainian refugees escaping the crisis with their beloved dogs by giving emergency supplies to refugee receiving centers. The organization is offering pet food, blankets, and medical treatment to refugees who arrive with animal friends, thanks to a generous grant from Mars, Incorporated. People who use these pet support services express satisfaction at being able to rescue their dogs, who provide immense comfort in highly difficult situations, particularly for traumatized youngsters. In Germany, HSI collaborates with the animal welfare organization Berliner Tiertafel to give pet food and medical care. More than 30 vets from all across Berlin have already pledged their support for the effort to help the homeless.

Sylvie Kremerskothen Gleason, HSI/director Europe's for Germany, says, "Russia's invasion of Ukraine is, of course, a catastrophic humanitarian disaster, but the loving dogs, cats, and other animals of people fleeing Ukraine are very much part of that refugee tale." We've heard from refugees we're assisting in Berlin that the faithful company of their dogs has kept them and their families going on the long trek to safety. Pets, especially for youngsters, are a huge source of comfort in coping with the trauma of war. These refugees are scared and fatigued, so being able to assist them in caring for their dogs means they have one less thing to worry about at a time when they most need it."

You can assist by donating to HSI's Ukraine emergency response and other life-saving operations.

Snakes that are commonly kept as pets

Snakes that are commonly kept as pets

Snakes of Various Species Kept as Pets

There are over 3,000 different snake species discovered around the world. And that number is always changing as new discoveries are made.

However, not all snakes are kept as pets. Snakes of the families Boidae, Pythonidae, and Colubridae are the most widely maintained. Although practically any type of snake may be obtained at a reptile show or online, the most widely kept pet snake species from these families are mentioned below. Many different types of snakes are maintained as pets.

Red-Tail Boa

The red-tail boa is a kind of boa constrictor that is commonly encountered in the pet trade. Red-tails may reach lengths of 15 feet and can grow to be approximately 10 feet long. They are not suitable as pets for individuals who are unable to commit to caring for a snake that consumes huge rodents or rabbits and may survive in captivity for 30 years or more.

Kenyan Sand Boa

These unusual burrowing snakes may grow to be around a foot and a half long. They are typically benign snakes that burrow their entire body into the sand, leaving just their small head visible to attack passing food. They have wonderful golden and brown designs on them.

Ball Python

The ball python, possibly the most popular pet snake, is a friendly snake with a calm demeanor. They only reach 3-5 feet in length but may live in captivity for up to 35 years. They get their name from the tight ball form they curl into when they're threatened. These snakes don't require much in the way of heating or lighting and make great first snake pets, but they do have certain unique requirements in order to remain healthy. More information is available here.

Burmese Python

These are huge snakes, yet they are still commonly kept as pets. Burmese are normally very gentle but a little more active than your little ball python, growing to reach 15-20 feet long (and occasionally much longer). Feeding these beasts is not for anyone who is afraid of handling dead rats or other bigger prey items. Burmese pythons may be better suited to adult snake owners due to their substantial weight and great length when fully grown.

Green Tree Python

Arboreal snakes give some variety to a standard snake exhibit. Green tree pythons enjoy curling up in an attractive cluster and clinging to a small tree branch. As adults, they reach lengths of around 5 feet and are very bright green (occasionally with yellow or blue spots). They are sometimes mistaken with the emerald tree boa.

Blood Python

King Snake

Kingsnakes, which are related to milk snakes, grow to be approximately 5-7 feet long, making them a smaller pet snake. They received their name because they would quickly consume other snakes, thus they should be kept alone. Because king snakes are native to North America and breed often in captivity, acquiring a captive-bred pet should be simple.

Milk Snake

The milk snake, which is a kind of king snake and is most usually found in the pet trade, closely replicates the color patterns of the deadly coral snake (known as Batesian mimicry). "Red on yellow will kill a fellow, but red on black is a buddy of Jack," as the adage goes, alludes to the band patterns observed on coral and milk snakes. Coral snakes have red bands that are adjacent to yellow bands, whereas milk snakes have red bands that are adjacent to black bands.

Black Rat Snake

The rat snake, one of the plainer-looking snakes, makes up for his lack of sparkle with his athletic ability. This is an energetic snake that can swim and climb trees. When startled or scared, they may wrinkle their bodies to resemble a rattlesnake and even shake the ends of their tails. The rat snake, which is endemic to the central and eastern United States, constricts its victim before consuming it.

Corn Snake

The corn snake, a kind of rat snake, is a popular starting snake because to its tiny size, but it is also a favorite of expert keepers due to its varied color patterns. Corn snakes, like many snakes, may grow to be around 5 feet long and are adept escape artists. They are not known to bite and are peaceful snakes.

Top 20 Hardest Dogs Breeds to Train

noreply@blogger.com (HAMZAO7AMZA.COM) — Sun, 13 Mar 2022 12:32:00 +0000

Top 20 Hardest Dogs Breeds to Train

Training your puppy is an important milestone in the growth of your dog, but certain breeds are more difficult to train than others. They are still lovable and vital members of your family, but you must be prepared to put in a bit more time and patience (as well as maybe some more money) while training these breeds.

In alphabetical order, here are 20 of the most difficult to teach dog breeds:

1. Alaskan Malamute

The Alaskan Malamute is well-known for being one of the oldest known sled dogs, having been employed in the Arctic for as long as 4,000 years. They are considered to be lively, loving, and friendly dogs, but their intellect and stubbornness may make training difficult. Malamutes have a mind of their own, so consistent and careful training will be most effective for these lovely canines.

2. American Foxhound

The American Foxhound, an easygoing, sweet-natured, and low-maintenance dog, was created by George Washington. They are, however, independent and obstinate canines, and it may be in their best interests for you to enroll them in obedience training. They are also high-energy canines who will become destructive and noisy if bored or under-exercised. Patience and perseverance are essential qualities for training the American Foxhound.

3. Australian Cattle Dog

In the 1800s, the Australian Cattle Dog was introduced to Australia from England and bred to resist the harsh Australian outback for herding meat cattle. They are inquisitive, good-natured, and loyal canines who will get into mischief if bored. The ACD is a very clever, obstinate, and energetic dog. These characteristics can make training more challenging, so keeping them active with obedience training and even agility or herding competitions is encouraged.

4. Basenji

Basenjis are one of the earliest known canines, having been transported to Egypt from Africa. These unusual canines are well-known for the "yodeling" sound they produce rather than barking, and they groom themselves in a cat-like manner. They are curious and lively canines who may be distant yet loving. Basenjis may be exceedingly mischievous, bright, and independent, and they can lose interest in training very fast. Training should be done in short bursts and with reward-based strategies.

5. Basset Hound

The Basset Hound is a French breed, and the name "basset" means "low" in French. These dogs are known for their gentle, tolerant, and loving personalities, yet they are also fiercely independent. They were taught to hunt on their own and are not easily distracted, so they may look uninterested in listening to you and may appear distant. The Basset just need persistence, patience, and a lot of time while training.

6. Bearded Collie

The Bearded Collie originated in the Scottish Highlands and was used for livestock herding and control. Because of their herding tendencies, they are amiable, loving, and lively dogs with a strong streak of independence. Lots of rewards, positive reinforcement, and patience will finally help teach the lovely but difficult Beardie.

7. Bloodhound

The Bloodhound is said to have originated in the ancient Mediterranean about the third century. These hounds are inquisitive, amiable, and easygoing, but also independent and headstrong. Because bloodhounds feel they are in charge, training should be done with compassion, patience, and a firm but kind touch. Begin teaching them as soon as possible, and think about enrolling the Bloodhound in an obedience class.

8. Borzoi

The Borzoi, often known as a Russian Wolfhound, was developed during the reign of the Romanovs (1613–1917). These beautiful dogs are dedicated, friendly, and peaceful in temperament, but their tenacity and intellect make them difficult to teach. Because the Borzoi was developed to hunt small animals, they should always be kept on a leash while out and about, and training should be done with humor, patience, and persistence.

9. Briard

Briards have been shepherds and guards in northern France since the 8th century. They are protective, confident, and affectionate dogs that, although eager to please, are also intelligent and self-sufficient. Maintain an exciting, pleasant, and encouraging training environment, and the Briard will learn rapidly and flourish.

10. Chinese Shar-Pei

The Chinese Shar-Pei has been around for over 2,000 years, serving as protectors, hunters, and herders. These unusual-looking dogs are loyal, calm, and loving, yet, like the most of the dogs on this list, they are also clever and obstinate. Consider puppy obedience lessons if you want to start teaching them at an early age. Consistent and caring training will result in a well-behaved family pet.

11. Chow Chow

The Chow Chow, like the Shar-Pei, is said to have originated before China's Han Dynasty and was employed as a companion as well as a hunter and guard dog. The Chow Chow is calm, aloof, and devoted, as well as clever and obstinate. Stick to the tried-and-true positive and patient training methods, and you will finally be able to teach the Chow Chow.

12. Dachshund

The Dachshund originated in Germany some 600 years ago and was used to dig badgers out of their tunnels. These long dogs are always interested, sociable, and courageous, yet they are also quite bright, independent, and stubborn. Because of their very sensitive natures, reward-based teaching that is primarily focused on positive encounters works best with this breed. Dachshunds are also prone to not always listening if anything else distracts them, so make training sessions fun.

13. Great Pyrenees

The Great Pyrenees was raised in the Pyrenees Mountains as a herding and security dog for flocks (located between Spain and France). This huge breed is a calm, patient, and faithful dog who is clever and self-sufficient. Pyrs are often uninterested in training, are quickly bored, and may answer to your directions with very sluggish responses. Early puppy training sessions, especially with the Pyr, are crucial, as is a lot of patience.

14. Greyhound

The Greyhound is another old breed that dates back to ancient Egypt and was used for hunting and pursuing game for almost 5,000 years. These beautiful, sleek canines are soft, sweet-natured, and dignified, as well as self-sufficient. They were created to hunt by sight rather than smell. This implies they are programmed to make their own judgments and require just brief and engaging training sessions. Because the Greyhound is a very sensitive dog, keep training soft and positive.

15. Kerry Blue Terrier

The Kerry Blue Terrier is an Irish breed that was designed to be farm dogs that could accomplish a range of tasks. They are versatile, lively, and gregarious, and their intelligence paired with some stubbornness makes them a difficult dog to teach. You will have a lot happier partner if you keep them occupied with activities like herding, agility, and rally. Early puppy training sessions, like with most dogs, will go a long way toward a well-mannered canine.

16. Kuvasz

The Kuvasz (pronounced KOO-vahz) was introduced to Hungary during the Middle Ages and was employed as a livestock protector. These loving, protective, and courageous dogs are very clever and self-sufficient, yet they develop at a slower rate than most dogs. It takes a lot of time to train them, and they will not react to monotonous and repeated training. The Kuvasz will require puppy training sessions and is not suitable for inexperienced dog owners.

17. Mastiff

The Mastiff, often known as the 'Old English Mastiff,' was utilized as estate guardians, big-game hunters, and in warfare during the Middle Ages. These enormous dogs are bold, good-natured, and patient, yet unlike the most of the dogs on this list, they are amiable and sensitive. The difficulty in training stems from the Mastiff's hatred of repetition, which bores them. The Mastiff will shine if you just use praise, affection, and short, pleasant training sessions.

18. Pekingese

The Pekingese was developed in ancient China to serve as royal lap dogs for Chinese emperors. These little dogs are self-assured, friendly, and faithful, but they are also intelligent and may be obstinate. They are thought to be a little 'opinionated,' and their independence makes them a little difficult to teach. Positive training with plenty of patience and consistency, like with the most of the canines on our list, will offer you with a joyful and charming companion.

19. Weimaraner

The Weimaraner, one of the most recent breeds on our list, was developed in Germany in the early nineteenth century for use as a hunting dog. These dogs are obedient, kind, and loving, and they are on the list for a different reason than the others. They are really extremely trainable due to their eagerness to please and ability to learn rapidly, so why are they on this list? Because the Weimaraner is quite intelligent, he will readily catch up on both negative and positive actions. Attend training sessions and be consistent with your training, and your Weimaraner will grow into a dependable and loving part of the family.

20. West Highland Terrier

The West Highland Terrier is one of several Scottish terriers that were developed to hunt rats. These are lively, devoted, and cheerful dogs who are also clever and independent, which is typical of a difficult-to-train dog. Westies are bred to work on their own, but they will benefit from continuous and fascinating training sessions with a patient and caring owner.

Conclusion

So, which dog is the most difficult to train? If you're the proud owner of any of the dogs on this list, don't give up if you're having trouble training them. A difficult-to-train puppy may also be a sign of a clever and independent dog, which has the advantage of not developing separation anxiety when you leave the house. Positive training methods along with patience and effort will be the key to successfully teaching practically any dog. You'll have a clever, happy, and well-adjusted companion if you educate yourself about the dog breed and are willing to enroll your pup in puppy training as well as obedience school.

10 Ways Dogs Express Their Love for You

10 Ways Dogs Express Their Love for You

From a human standpoint, love is an abstract feeling that might be confusing. Dogs can have affectionate sentiments for their owners as well.

Although their expression of love differs from ours, there are some parallels. When a dog expresses love, it is sincere, unconditional, and eternal. Some ways dogs express their affection for you are apparent, but others are subtler and may surprise you.

Adhere to the Leader

Canines, like their wolf relative, are naturally gregarious creatures. They are not looking for "me time," and they want to spend quality time with their human family. Instincts that helped dogs' ancestors thrive in the wild can still be found in our pets' DNA. Your dog follows you because he wants to be with you, his leader, and it's one way for him to demonstrate his affection.

Wagging Tail

A wagging tail might imply a variety of things, but if you have a healthy connection with your dog, you can be sure that a full-body tail wag kept at mid-level means "I'm very glad to see you." A favorable indication is when his tail is held over to the right side of his body.

Licking/Grooming/Nosing

Doggy kisses on the lips are a clear indication of love. Dogs lick the face of the person they regard as their leader as a natural action. Grooming another dog or a human family member is an intimate ritual of a close tie since dogs are social creatures. Some dogs show their affection by gently nosing your hand, arm, or leg and inviting you to interact with them.

Cuddling/Nuzzling/Leaning

Touch is just as vital to dogs as it is to humans, especially when the person snuggling next to you is someone wonderful. Your pet may have his or her own comfortable bed, but his or her favorite location to relax is most likely right next to you. Some dogs press their noses into the crook of your arm or rest their heads on your foot. Others express their adoration by laying their heads on your knees, while others lean against you. It's critical not to push your pet away while he's expressing his affection. This is the time to build your friendship and cherish those rare moments of tenderness.

Chewing Your Stuff

This may not appear to be an act of love, but it is. Your odor pervades your pet's surroundings. It's a perfume that makes him happy, safe, and at ease. When your dog chews on your favorite shirt, sweater, sock, or other items, it's because it reminds him of you, which delights him.

Wrestling/Roughhousing

Wrestling and roughhousing amongst playmates, whether human or canine, is a natural method to bond and burn off some energy; it's also a gesture of affection. When dogs are playing and having fun, they like to give out a breathy chuckle, especially when they are with someone they care about. Roughhousing might go out of hand at times, so teach your dog not to bite when playing with him.

Smiling

Scientists have discovered that when people and dogs display emotions, they use the same muscles. A doggy smile is reserved for playmates (humans or other dogs) and indicates joy and devotion.

Jumping

Jumping upon us is a habit we strive to educate our dogs to avoid, yet it is actually a gesture of devotion from our canine companions. When an exuberant dog meets you at the door, it might be bothersome, but it's his way of expressing how delighted he is to see you. He's also smelling everything you've taken home with you.

Eye Contact/Socializing

Dogs long to be with their owners. It's a social obligation that canines are predisposed to have. The most important person in your pet's life, in his opinion, is his leader. He turns to you for company, approval, direction, correct care, and affection. That is a fantastic and gratifying task.

Making and maintaining eye contact with your dog helps to enhance your relationship. Looking into his eyes raises oxytocin levels in both of you (a chemical in the brain known as the love hormone). Making eye contact with your dog indicates that he feels at ease turning to you for guidance, which is especially significant when you need to grab his attention.

Loyalty

Loyalty cannot be purchased, and it is a measure of trust and respect that must be earned. Our canine friends' instinct to protect the family unit (pack) is instinctive, and their devotion is one-way canines express they love you.
