Still being involved one different levels, but in between sets he decided to write about Dubstep once again. As co-founder of Contact Events, he is also involved in organizing parties and promoting.

Now writing articles for FatKidOnFire and 3VOOR12/Breda; he says: "Interviewing prominent artists that live across Europe is an appriciative experience". People like 12Gauge, Culprate, Dubsidia, Seven, Riskotheque and Obey to name a few. Being involved in a wide area of things, with the love for the music, passions seem to multiply.

Lounga plays many different types of Dubstep. "Subgenres shouldn't be a boundry for creative input. Yet I do tend to be very picky in what I choose to play." Different tempo's and moods that pace the storytelling and tie it all together. Epic melodies, complex breakdowns and changing energy. A dance of micro universes expressed through energy, space and time. Tune in for a custom made slice of heaven.
It will be a free Bandcamp release, which makes for an easy introduction to the Dutchman.

Since he appeared on the online jukebox 22Tracks with “Wess Side Ryder” Boeboe is being watched closely by the post-dubstep community. The track was vigorously blogged and put into many a mix and streaming radio show. His debut EP has gotten pre-release support by the likes of Daedelus who used “Act Stupid” in his mix for FACT Magazine and BIOS (owner of Saturate Records) who dropped the same track at a club night in Hamburg. In his homeland he’s begin backed by the Boemklatsch collective and elite urban DJ/Producer FS Green along with 22Tracks founder Vincent “Venz” Reinders.

Besides producing Boeboe is also active as a DJ. The list of venues he performed at in The Netherlands is already pretty impressive. He recently made his festival debut at Fusion of Dance Outdoor and there is more to come.

The EP will be available shortly through here: http://sabacanrecords.bandcamp.com/
http://thedubstepextravaganza.blogspot.com

Interview with Bratkilla (Contrage)

1. You probably heard it often, but still. How did you come up with the name Bratkilla?
Have you ever heard of "My super sweet 16"? Spoiled kids who goes apeshit on their parents for buying them a new car in the wrong color.

2. Please tell us more about the earlier years you got involved with music. What was it all about back then and how did it form into the present?
Well, it has changed quite radically id say. When i first started out it was pretty basic synths, not that heavy compared to the new stuff that i make. I've always wanted to put "Deathcore" and "Deathmetal" in my tracks in some way and whats what i've been doing since 2009 i believe.

3. What are your weapons of choice in the studio? Which VST's do you like the most and why?
Haha, well my studio is an Asus laptop with some standard computer speakers and a pair of Koss Porta Pro headphones as of now. Currently saving up for some AKG's headphones.

4. You are planning a Europe Tour the upcoming months. Are there any festivals bookings you would like to mention? What are you the most excited about regarding the tour?
Not sure if its a real tour but its a period mainly focusing on Europe for 2 months, the "tour" is ending after june and until then i got UK, Italy and Holland in store for next month, i am super stoked since its my first time in both UK and Italy.

5. Besides music itself, where do you get your inspiration from?
I would say the world, events that happen across the world. Bloodshed, suffering of innocent people, more "high-up" people believing they can do whatever they want and expect the people to just take it all to the face and continue living like nothing bad is going on.

6. If you could transform into an animal, which one would it be?
Definitely a cat! I love cats.

7. For someone who hasn't been there yet, how would you describe the Stockholm scene?
Hmm well i think its quite alright! We don't have 2345678 clubs but we have a few who push the darker side of the scene.

8. What are the upcoming projects and collaborations that you would like to tell more about?
Lots and lots of stuff is being in the works! Another collab with GEIN and Sinister souls, a new remix im going to do for 12gauge and i got some new releases coming out. Just recently i released my 2nd LP containing 10 tracks on Abducted records and i got another EP on Bad Chemistry recordings coming out on June 11th. Other than that im working a lot on my side project "Contrage" where i make a blend of Hardcore/dnb music, check the page "Contrage" page on facebook/youtube if you want to hear some of the work!

9. What do you like the most about composing?
Expressing myself, is the best thing about making music. Pretty much every track i have made contains a hidden message to it.

10. What do you think is the difference between a decent producer and an excellent one?
A decent producer has the ideas, an excellent producer fulfills them to the fullest.

Many thanks to Marcus for the interview. You can catch him in Holland on 22 June @ Filth
Among those up and coming is Franky Nuts. Together with Azzeration they are running the "Kill The DJ" nights in Gebouw-T, Roosendaal.

Currently signed to Black Hole Recordings and Rub a Duck. His new EP will be released later this year. We visited him in his hometown to have a chat about his early days, the present and future.

1 Hoe ben je met muziek begonnen?
Ik heb heel lang in bandjes gespeeld. Vanaf me 4e speelde ik piano en vanaf me 9e deed ik ook drummen. Sinds me 16 ben ik begonnen met producen.

How did you start with music?
I have played in bands for a long time. From the age of 4 i've played piano and from the age of 9 drums. When I was 16 I started with production

When you started production, was it Dubstep then?
Well, in electronic music my roots are Trash Electro. The early Bloody Beetroots and Drive Pilot, just really hard electro. There just isn't that much good released these days. Back then I also listened to Dubstep. I always liked it, but it wasn't made then let just say. Then a couple of tracks got released and I was like "Noo, this is too much!" That's when I got started. Besides this I also make Hip Hop sometimes.

How did it start with the piano back than, was it your idea or?
It was because of my parents. They said something like: "This is good for your musical development" Eventually I also liked it and continued. While producing I still use a midi keyboard.

When you decided to make Dubstep, who were the artists that inspired you?
With Dubstep it's not that much about the artists for me, but more about the tracks that I really like. If I would have to say then I would say people like Emalkay and basically whole Dub Police. I like the minimal, but sometimes I also really dig the hard stuff.

Black Hole Recordings, how did you get involved with them?
They approached me. I had some music on soundcloud and got an email from them. It was in Breda, so I went to visit and the rest is history

How did things go from then?
When I signed at Black Hole Recordings I got the assignment to make a remix. This got released on a cd with more remixes by different folks. This remix also got released on another Black Hole Recordings compilations which is in stores.

7 De EP, kan je daarover iets meer over vertellen?
3 September komt die, hij zal via heel veel sites verkrijgbaar zijn.

The EP, could you tell more about it?
It will be released on 3 september through many different websites.

8 Hoeveel tracks komen erop?
Stuk of 6/7

How many tracks will be on it?
About 6 or 7

9 Komen er ook collabs op de EP?
Ja, met Skinto, Staf Eggermont en Don de Baron. Verder komen er ook remixes van de tracks op de EP.

Will there be collabs on the EP?
Yes, with Skinto, Staf Eggermont and Don de Baron. There also will be remixes of the tracks from the EP.

10 Wie vindt jij momenteel de producers in Nederland?
Lifecycle gaat wel hard, Reckless ook. Devnik vind ik ook goed bezig, evenals Curifex.

Who do you think are currently the producers in Holland?
Lifecycle is going hard, Reckless also. Devnik is doing well, as Curifex.

11 Ben je van plan om echt carrière te gaan maken in de muziek?
Ja, liefst wel. Ik verdien er geen bakken met geld mee. Aan de andere kant, als ik nou ga werken kan ik geen beats maken.

Are you planning to make a carreer in music?
Yes, I would prefer that. I don't earn that much money with it. Then again, if I work I woudn't have time to make beats.

What has been the most fun gig up to date and why?
It was quite recently actually. It was during a show in Bibelot, Dordrecht. High Rankin was playing also. The visitors were mainly young dudes around the age of 16/17, and they wanted the hard stuff. I actually started with minimal, but had to go harder and harder.

A pit formed. I was with my MC, Irving (Metronoom) and said: "Hey man, I'm going to stagedive" I then stood on the table, but had a tune with a long building climax. Everyone was ready while I was waiting for the drop. Eventually everyone was like: "oh, he's not jumping anymore" and started turning around. At that moment I actually jumped and landed on 3 people. Then everyone came eventually. It was a really awesome show!

13 Wat vind je het leukste aan produceren?
Dat je het idee wat in je hoofd zit echt uit de speakers kan laten komen.

What do you like the most about production?
To make the idea in the head come out through the speakers.
How did this all begin?

I originally started producing when i was 14, i got a copy of Reason 4 and was using loops as i didn't really understand how to create my own stuff. I've used it ever since, well, Reason 5 now! When i turned 15 was when i started taking it seriously, i won a Skint Records (FatBoy Slim, Xpress2 etc.) remix competition and got my first vinyl release. i really wish i could re-do the remix though haha! It all kicked off from there really, doing radio shows on FM radio's and that! For example, I've now done a collab with Haze (Funtcase) which is released on True Tiger, and i've also won the 'Best Producer' award at the ATM awards, so I've come a long way since the beginning!

2. What motivated you the most in those early years as a producer to keep growing? What have been the things that kept the vision going?

Getting the release at an early age, on a label that is home to legends like Fatboy Slim was a real big part of it. That led me to getting plays on Radio 1/1Xtra. Every little thing that happened like that is what kept me going, knowing people were actually interested in what i was doing. I mean, im now getting support by the scene's biggest acts and getting played on the top radio stations, having releases on some major big labels, even having a track licensed to Sony Music! Everything that happens is a reason to keep going. I was real lucky the way everything worked out really, and iv'e never had any intentions of stopping! I've lived in the studio ever since i began, 24/7!!!!

3. Which people or musicians do you look up the most that contributed to your development directly or indirectly? Why them?

This is probably a common answer, but the one for me has to be Skream. I really look up to him, that guy's production is incredible. It doesn't matter what he does, i love it! He isn't just stuck to composing a certain style of music either, his sound is so diverse. Iv'e really been put on the spot now with this question haha!

4. What's your setup? Which sequencer, favorite VST and more hardware or software?

Believe it or not, for a good three years now iv'e used these HiFi speakers i have, but honestly the sound quality is amazing from them! I'm also running Reason 5, but iv'e only recently made the change from Reason 4. My favourite toy is my Nocturn midi keyboard, i sit there and jam on it for hours some times, just randomly! Iv'e also got a mic i use to record some of my own sounds & percussion hits, from my cymbal's, to a Harmonica, to my Pot Noodle Horn! I've also got a Casio keyboard i like to record now and then, it has a real nice sound! I got a little four channel mixer too. The great thing is, i got a dedicated room for my studio, so it all look's nice! I've also got my eye on a Jen SX-1000 analogue synth but i cant find any for sale, so if you got one hit me up! ;) haha!

5. Please describe briefly your approach to building a tune. Are you more of a improvisational artist or do you prefer to have it all worked out before you begin?

I don't plan anything at all really, unless its a remix then i like to get a few idea's rolling that i feel could work. I just go with the flow though, i find it's the best way. Your ear's do all the work then, if it sounds good you'll know, and you'll roll with it. If an idea isn't catching my attention within an hour or sometime's less, I'll just move on to the next track. I cant be wasting no time!

6. What would be the best advice you could give to young producers focussing on getting released?

Forget a social life, get in the studio and don't come out, except for food obviously! I don't want to be the cause of anyone starving to death. Oh and sleep, now and then! But on a literally, forget a social life, just make music. The more effort you put in, the more that will come of it. If you don't put in the work then your not going to see the results, and your not going to improve! Stick at what your doing. Also, a wise man once told me, don't compare your music to anybody else's, your music is your's, their's is their's.

7. What are the upcoming projects and bookings you are looking forward to the most and why?

I'm live on KISS FM with Hatcha & Crazy D on the 22nd of May, it's going to be crazy! 12-1am if you want to lock on! This is the main thing I'm excited about right now. Also my EP which is going to be released on N-Type's label - Wheel & Deal. This will be out over the next few month's! It will be a four track EP, but the great thing is, i didn't have any plan's for it, i wrote four track's which are completely different from one another so it's an interesting listen. I really want to get over to Holland & Belgium at the moment, the scene looks incredible and it's so strong out there!

8. Who are the artists you think people should be on the look out for in the upcoming months?

There's a lot lately, but the one's who have really caught my attention are Dub Freq & Mutated Mindz. The sound's these guy's are creating are so nice and it's not anything like anyone else is producing, they aren't trying to copy anybody's sound, its there own. Vodex is another, but he's taking over right now! A producer called Soloman is making some nice bit's too.

9. What has been the most wild booking up to date and why?

The one booking that i will always be reminded by is a booking i got locally. It was New Years eve, I turned up ready to play and suddenly the water pipes burst in the wall, within minutes the club floor was flooded with water! I didn't get to play as the club got closed, but other than that, it was a great laugh and it got messy afterwards when i got to a party! WIN!

10. What's your favorite beer brand?

Stella all the way!! Although, recently iv'e been drinking Budweiser which is going down lovely!

11. Any last last words you would like to share to conclude?

I would just like to say thank you for interviewing me really! Its really appreciated! If anybody is interested in booking me, get in touch on joshuakinsella@hotmail.com! I'm ready for you! 1. How did you guys meet and decided to start Dubsidia? You guys have a somewhat unique bio posted on soundcloud, what’s the story?

Gabriel: We both were producers and djs before creating Dubsidia. We met at a rave a lot of years ago. Jesús invited me to his summer-house near the beach in Chiclana de la Fra (Cádiz) and we built a strong friendship. Some years later we established the name of Dubsidia.

Then we had some tough times, we were skint. The mom of Jesus went crazy and left him alone with me, both living in 18m2, and earning a piece of shit. Hunger sharpens the wits and the famous story of our biography is true, because we saw the future and then started to work hard.

Jesús: We went hungry, at least the Grandma of Gabriel gave us enough food each week. We didn't want any relation with the music we did in the past. We wanted to start from zero, but the influences are difficult to hide. Our first satisfactions came with the support of Skrillex, he played our tracks and that gave us more encouragement. So we are the guys that touched the stone, saw the future and made the tracks.

Gabriel: And now he wants to tattoo the story of the stone in his right arm, sick.

2. What does Dubsidia mean? How did you guys come up with the name?

Gabriel: "Desidia" in spanish means disorder, chaos.

Jesús: We adapted it to the name "dubstep" and then…..DUBSIDIA!

3. What has been the most fun gig to perform this year and why?

Gabriel: Paris gig with the Splash crew was awesome. I also had great times in Kelowna (Canada). We have met a lot of people around the world and each one is funnier than the last one.

Jesús: I like to play everywhere but specially in our own city, because I can't spend a lot of weekends with my friends!

4. Could you tell us more about how you work on tracks together? Is there a system on who does what? Do you guys work together in the same studio every time?

Jesús: Yes, we live in the same city and work in the same studio. We know how to do all, but Gabriel usually spends more time producing in the studio. Perhaps he's better on the musical parts and I on the technical side.

5. Which sequencer do you guys work with mostly? Is the setup more hardware or software? Why?

Gabriel: We work with FL Studio 10. We have been working with it since we began to produce, it's very comfortable. Sometimes we use Logic too, but only for minor things.

6. What would be the best advice you could give to producers that want to get a release?

Gabriel: Patience. It doesn't matter in the quantity but rather the quality of the tracks.

Jesús: Make a list of the labels you want to reach, and ask yourself if your tracks fit to all them
(because of the style, etc.. )

7. Any news on a Dubsidia album perhaps? There seem to be a lot of people that want to know…

Both: surprising

8. Could you tell us more about the Dubstep scene in Spain? How is the scene in Seville and other big cities? What venues and parties would you recommend? Is it somehwat different than other countries?

Gabriel: It's growing. I saw the process and how the people were refusing it at first, but now they demand dubstep and other bass music artists. Stereopoly and Resistance are the best promoters of bass music in Seville, they brought here KOAN Sound, Feed Me….I think the quality of the rave depends of the promoter, it doesn't depend of the country.

Jesús: For me "Sala Custom" is the best venue of bass music in Seville. The capacity is almost 1000 people. When the promoter of Stereopoly makes a "Stereovice" party, it's always packed, so the Sevillians are finally beginning to come to their senses.

9. You guys are putting more focus in Glitch Hop releases lately. Why is that?

Jesús: We were influenced by Reso. We started making some glitch hop and now…we can't stop.

Gabriel: But we don't want to focus our style in Glitch Hop. Honestly we make all we want. Tomorrow maybe we could start to make Salsa, Bachata, etc…joking hehehe. We mean we are free.

10. Please tell us about the upcoming EP's and collaborations.

Jesús: Something we can tell you, we have some remixes for Elite Force and Aeph to be released very soon.

Gabriel: As well interesting collaborations with Salmo and Moby.

11. Anything else that you would like to say to the fans?

Gabriel: We receive a lot of tracks everyday from producers that want to show us their skills. We created a mail exclusively for this: sendtodubsidia@gmail.com

Many thanks to Dubsidia for the interview. Inspiring!
Triage has just released an album. Hailing from Portland Orlando they are back once again and now likely planning to stay.

Triage, as the name suggests is a trio collaboration. More even so, they consist of respectively three brothers named Debt, Liar & Seth Norman. (sinister names huh?)

Many have come to associate them with the symphonic banger they did together with SPL called "Valhalla". In the meanwhile there have been some releases, but nothing of this size. Things really started to get interesting some weeks ago, when they started posting previews of this new LP on soundcloud.

Besides a brand new team up with SPL there are a lot more on this album. The likes of Antiserum, Riskotheque, The Bassist, Chewie and Jaden seem to bring a lot to the table in the means of variaty and depth. What's worth to mention is the fact that unlike the mostly done approach of mutual remixes this LP has actual collaborations only.

Ingrained with a signature sound that could possibly be described as "Rawstep". Triage's style could be summed up as a combination of gloomy atmospheres, oldskool synths and uniquely overdriven basslines, with a lot of variaty in the mid/high spectrum. How well do these collaborations and their own productions add up to the total value of this album brought forth on Hollow Point Records? Let's dig deeper and find out!

A common theme in the world of music is that producers working together really have to click to synergise. In the genre of Dubstep it is something that mostly comes natural by mutual respect and rapport. In the collaborative sense the LP delivers a lot. The results are one by one unique and with a lot of originality. Practically all of the collabs are of a high caliber and it is no wonder that they have been making an impact on the current Beatport charts. Much respect to all those involved for providing such a variaty.

After listening to the album a couple of times one may come to the conclusion Triage has delivered. They provide a signature sound that in a sense is quite unique compared to what mostly is being released. That being said, most of the songs just don't seem to reach the same level the collabs are bringing. It is as if the spotlight intentionally has been put on the collabs rather. Still it has to be noted that own productions bring a lot of quality. A DJ for instance might feel attracted to the more laid back and progressive vibe these songs provide, while maintaining an upbeat energy to keep the set in pace. There is a lot of attention to detail and the breakdowns are a fine art. Radium and Brawl for example are very distinct tracks with a lot of atmosphere and energy. If you like the sound Triage brings in their productions the whole LP itself is pleasing.

Triage has delivered a very decent album with these combined efforts. They provide sufficient material of their own, while establishing some great collaborations with some of the most respected names in the Dubstep scene. The overall feel of delivered tracks is diverse. While the songs done by Triage are somewhat more common and less upfront in their makeup, there's still a lot of attention their own uniqueness. The sound Triage brings might not be for everyone, but for those who like it there's is plenty of it to enjoy. This being said, a debute album like this is a very decent result. The decision to collaborate has been a wise one aswell that adds a lot of reply value. I'm giving this LP a 7.7/10

1. Hello Tom, please tell us more about yourself. Like where you come from, your musical background and how you got into Dubstep?

Well I am Tom a.k.a. Stereologue, originated from Amsterdam. Got into music through DJing by the age of 10 and started spinning Hardcore and Earlyrave back in grade-school. After that, around when I was 12, I started working with Magix music maker which was a birthday present actually.

After years of making hardcore I decided to quit and started making Electro House with dubstep oriented basslines.
Dropped the first demo together with my friend Joran who I started Stereologue with. The dubstep tracks got the best responses.

I really was into the whole Rusko & Skream sound at that time and started making more dubstep tunes. Won the ADE 2010 demolition and released first dubstep ep on MWM-Recordings. The dubstep bookings came and stereologue became more of a dubstep act with electro influences. Eventually to the point that i played the Skrillex aftershow with my man Dion Cassius. Nowadays electro with dubstep influences is more accepted. When we did the first stereologue tracks it was not that accepted yet. I actually don't really have a musical background besides of DJing from a young age. Learned everything over time.

2. So how would you define your Dubstep productions, like how do you describe your own music?

Dance floor orientated music with more live played influences. Most of the times write the lyrics and record instruments.
The Basslines definitely have to work in a club, but I love the idea of live instruments like the guitar & vocals in Disappear are self-written en recorded.

3. In your approach to production, what are things you pay the most attention to while polishing a track from an idea into a more finished product?

It really depends what the track is gonna be like, I pay a lot of attention to the mix and the basslines, which are probably most important in dance music.

Sometimes I like to start with a vocal idea. Thats how I created Disappear. In "Eyes on me" I first got the baselines down and then recorded the vocals. So it really depends, there is more than one way to do it.

Polishing the track to me is all about EQing and working on the mix as a total but the basslines get the most time processing and then the freaking with the synths.

4. Which 3 producers do you like the most and why?

My number one is NOISIA. To me technically they are the best there is in EDM. Their sound has been amazing over the years and they really stepped up the game and level of production. My number two at the moment is Feed Me / Spor, sound-wise just brutal wicked basslines and edits. He has been there for years.

Third is probably Kill The noise or Dillon Francis at the moment. I fancy the clean sound of Kill the Noise and his basslines. On the other hand I am quite into the 110 stuff Dillon Francis is doing. Just wicked party music the combination of these two on. Kill The Noise - Kill The Noise (Dillon Francis Remix) is a good example of their two styles combined!

5. Can you tell us more about your current projects and upcoming releases/collabs?

Yes off course, I got a few remixes coming up. Did remixes for Krakkemikkig & Neuroscientist, some 100 & 110 bpm stuff. Also doing a remix for Kaizoku and... a secret one. Besides doing a new release with another act which is called Ravage. Currently also working on the follow up of Disappear, probably 60% done now. Collabs, well I am not sure yet which will make it on the release yet ;)

6. Any shoutouts you want to give and what would you like to say in conclusion to the readers/dubstep fans?

Yes, to my MWM-Recordings Family (you know who ;)), much love for you guys. Thanks for the fun times and Marcel for believing in me.
Dion Cassius for putting up with me on Gigs ;).

Also all the people supporting my releases and that have been there from the start and all the people coming to the wicked parties and enjoying the music.

To the readers and dubstep fans: Just enjoy the music, these are good times for dubstep. Also check out your locals!
There is some good stuff being made in Holland now.

Many thanks to Stereologue for this guestmix and interview.
After hearing "Falling" on the Lovesick Records podcast some while ago I was mesmerised by the depth of his productions. Karl (Disonata) has been so kind to do a quick interview and an exclusive guestmix.

1. Hello Karl, please tell us about your musical background and what motivated you to start composing.

I started making music when I was 11, got bought a guitar and learnt to play and played in numerous bands up until about a year or so ago when I left the last band I was in. I've been producing electronic music since late 2008, when I started a college music course. Just wanted to be able to make music without having to rely on other people, and I was into Dubstep so it was kind of a natural progression for me.

2. What's your current setup? What sequencer, plugins and hardware do you work with? What do you like most about production?

My current set up is : iMac, KRKVXT8 Monitors, Focusrite Saffire Pro24, M-Audio Oxygen 49, Reason 5 and Ableton Live (occasionally). oh and AKG K240 MK2 Headphones for mix referencing/late night tune making.

3. Karl, that doesn't sound like a typical British name, what's the story? Also could you describe how you come up with the artist name "Disonata"?

Haha no it isn't, my grandad was Ukranian so I get my second name from him. I also have a Scottish grandad so I'm equally Scottish, bit of a weird situation really.
Disonata came from just mashing two words together really, Dissonance and Sonata. Seemed to fit and I knew no one else would have it so I just went with it.

4. Which 3 artists inspire you the most and why?

Tough question... easier to say my 3 within Dubstep/Electronic and 3 Bands/Musicians I think.

Dubstep/Electronic
Reso - because his productions are always so crisp, with so many elements in his tunes I really dont know how he gets them sounding so clean.
Eskmo - kind of the same reasons as Reso but I think specifically because of the textures he gets out of his sounds.
Bonobo - I'm pretty sure he does a lot electronically but I'm not 100%.. either way he's one of my favourite artists just because his tunes are the ideal thing to chill to for me.

Bands/Musicians
Sikth - because I like tech-metal and they're insane!
Andy McKee - probably my favourite solo acoustic guitarist
Cinematic Orchestra - can't really specify why.. I just love their music

5. Are there upcoming collaborations and released that you would like to talk about?

Yeah, I have an EP forthcoming on Illicit Trade soon and EP coming on Diamind Records aswell. A tune of mine is coming on the Redshift-One Compilation and hopefully something with them later this year too. Apart from that maybe just a few random bits here and there but keep an eye on my facebook page for all release updates.
The Bassclash Album has just come out with 3 of my tunes too so be sure to go check that out!

As for collaborations I'm currently doing one with Vodex and Doomtrooper, but I'm planning more with people like Kasket, more with Muk, more with Supreme and probably loads more I'm forgetting too. Just have to keep an eye out :)

Many thanks to Disonata for the guestmix and interview. If you like his sound be sure to hear more on his soundcloud.
Months went by accompanied by a lot of anticipating fans as the word came around that they were working on an album. Akira Kiteshi are perhaps most known for their tune called "Pinball" which earned him a lot of well deserved hearings. About 2 months ago they uploaded this album sampler and now the album has finally hit the stores. So what's the fuss about?

What really shines trough is the high production value and level of detail. 14 tracks with a wide variaty of colours and rhythms that flow well progressively. Most tracks have an upfront glitch/funk vibe injected in them making it a "dancefloor friendly" album generally, yet there are some refined experimental sounds like the ambient intermission, as well as a couple of more vocally themed tracks.

While the main thread revolves around Dubstep there are the occasional electro and breakbeat influences. The overall energy of the album can be described as relatively high and warm with a few exceptions. Definitely would recommend this album for those who like the vibe, there are gems to be found as an addition to your collection!

Also worth to check. This is a fanmade video edit of "Machine"
I'm Tekka, a 23-year old DJ/Producer resident in Breda, The Netherlands. Next to DJ-ing and Producing, I'm also CEO of Step Right Dub, an Organization set to organize Dubstep and Drum & Bass parties in and around Breda. Dubstep Extravaganze has asked me to focus more on the Genres closely related to Dubstep, such as Glitch-Hop/100BPM, Drum & Bass, IDM and Grime.

One of my favorite producers at the moment has got to be the 18-year old swedish Teknian. Don't let his young age fool you, in my opinion he is technically one of the best producers out there, especially when it comes to Resampled Basslines. Teknian has decided to give his Bootleg for the DnB-Classic "Cause4Concern - Dream Killer" away for free on his Soundcloud. When I play DnB, this one is always in my set, huge Remix:

While you're here, be sure to check out his newest "100BPM" bit, proper 80's vibes in this one:

A couple of weeks ago Culprate performed at Step Right Dub in Breda. Despite the massive snowfall and frost that week, which was making it hard to ride a bike or perhaps even get home alive while too drunk... It luckily didn't matter! The party was a success and once again a new milestone for organization and local Dubstep scene.

Beside this night currently hosted in the Mezz, the SRD crew is also hosting an event called "Steppers Delight" in De Boulevard. During this free monthly and often packed event they invite upcoming talent from in and around Holland. It has to be said that they're providing a steady stream of quality Dubstep parties in Breda. Names that have performed at events by Step Right Dub are people like: Goth-Trad, Dream, Stagga, Stinkahbell, Asa, Teknian, Habstrakt and thus Culprate aswell.

Culprate was willing to do an interview with us during that night, so we did it. Eventually the audio file didn't get recorded and agonizingly enough i've found about this afterwards. (Not my best day it was haha) Yet Culprate has been so kind to once more do the interview, so here it is :)

1. Tell us more about yourself, like where you grew up, how you got involved with music and how you eventually got into production?

I grew up in a small town just north of London called Watford. Since I was a toddler my Mum was always in bands and I guess it just rubbed off on me.. I've always loved listening to music and also loved the technology used to make it. When I left school and started a music course I soon realised the potential of computers in music. From then on i've been hooked..

2. How have you came up with the name Culprate? Is there a certain story?

My name was the result of a few painsteaking days searching cool words on google.. After the 2nd day the idea came of miss spelling the words I had previously searched. Eventually I found something that had no search results... Not the most glamorous of stories but hey...lol

3. When working in the studio, what is your setup? Is it mainly hardware or software based? What sequencer do you use and what vst's/synths are your favourites?

I have to admit being the stereotypical broke musician... I run Ableton and Reason. I've toyed with some soft synths like the FM8 and Gladiator, but I always gravitate back to Ableton's own plugins like the Operator. However, I did shell out a bit on the monitors 'Dynaudio Bm6A's'. Clearly my best purchase ever!!

4. What are the upcoming projects and collaborations that you would like to tell more about?

I am currently working on my 2nd EP for Inspected, featuring Mc Maksim on a couple of the tracks.. It's been a big learning curve for me as I've rarely delved into the vocal world this much.

5. What is it that you do, that really makes the difference in the way you keep growing and improving musically? There probably is some sort of immersion, how would you describe this?

I think its important to remember why you make music. I personally have been in love with music since I was tiny.. and primarily influenced by older (Non Dance) music... So I think the resulting sound is a give away of my unwillingness to come into the 21st century..lol

6. Besides a packed venue and a crowd that is willing to immerse into the music, what qualities/attitudes of a DJ really take things to the next level?

Not sure, its probably a matter of opinion.. In my opinion it's important to respond to your crowd with constant change. I find it quite dull when a DJ only plays 140 or whatever.. Even if the mixing isn't perfect, I think its important to diversify.

7. When someone is approaching a label to get their EP signed. What are the really important, but rather overlooked things that have to be taken care of first?

I think its important to have an element of quality control, both with the labels you choose and also your music. Make sure you have your music as good as it can be,
this could mean the difference between gettin signed or having a new free EP... At the end of the day the best way to get involved is probably to know someone in the industry already.

Common sense tells you that because of the ease and speed in which you can share your music, it would be easy to get noticed. With today's market it's rather harder than ever before to get noticed by labels, purely because of vast oversaturation.

Today every man and his dog can try their hand at music production, but as like anything worth having it takes passion and tenacity. Also labels want (Over anything else) originality..!

8. Who do you think are the artists that currently really push the enevelope in the evolution of Dubstep and why?

For good or bad.. Skrillex. There's no doubt he has single handedly changed the whole scene. Love him or hate him, he's a real pioneer. Koan sound, purely because they've taken heavy influence from the great Noisia, but made it more fun. Some may say they've invented and coined a whole new sound. Even some of my tunes get comments like "sounds like Koan"...

On the deeper side of things. I'd say, Asa. It's rare to find music with any emotion these days. His music touches you on so many levels, it's a reminder that not all dance music needs to be and big and brash. I'm really glad he's around.

Last but by no means least, Torqux & Twist. Their music has an element of sound design unparalelled in todays dubstep scene.

9. What gig/performance has been the most fun and memorable to you and why?

One that really sticks in my mind is Blackout. Played with some of the greats in DnB, which I respect for over a decade. It was a really great atmosphere and i'd be a lucky man if all my shows were like this.

10. What would you like to add as a final note to the Dubstep fans reading this?

Keep an open mind...

Many thanks to John "Culprate" and Step Right Dub for making this interview possible. Have you heard this guy? In this short documentary Dub FX talks about his experiances as an artist and his approach to performance. The video covers a couple of live performances with commentary by Dub FX. Beatbox combined with loop layering, fx and rapping? Big respect. Perhaps not full on Dubstep, but roots are clearly present.
http://thedubstepextravaganza.blogspot.com

Snips and recommends

A snippet from Calvertron. Actually a remix. Sporty-O is an MC from Atlanta, US. Featured on a decent amount of good releases in 2011, his tracks often get reworked to a Dubstep remix. A fresh remix by the very known Dodge & Fuski can be found on his soundcloud. A good example also might be "Gotta Be Big" Vibeizm remix. As for the badman Calvertron, yet another very good composition with a lot of energy. This artist just keeps getting better. This release will hit the digital stores on 20 february.

Artist recommendation: Dirt Monkey

Dirt Monkey is the alias of Patrick Megeath. Originated from Boulder (yes Boulder, it rocks ;p) USA. He's been producing for about 10 years now, starting with more breaks focused styles and eventually more bass oriented music. This eventually got him interested into Dubstep. His sound can be described as a rich combination of details in the bass, as well as in the melody and percussion spectrum. There are a lot of funky elements and vocal samples in his tracks that hint to his hip hop background.

This being a very recent snippet. Be sure to take a look on his soundcloud, there are a lot of free tracks. Some are rather experimental, which in some ways is a good thing. There's also a proper remix of Excision's banger "Subsonic".

Here is a track of his new EP released on the Irie Cartel label.

Looking forward to hear more from Dirt Monkey in 2012.
Just have to respond on this article posted just after the news came that Skrillex won 3 Grammy's.

Skrillex Uses Satanic and Homosexual Influence to Win Grammys

Gotta love Skrillex. This asks for a polarity response. Sure he has changed Dubstep for more than some deep heads would have bargained. All the mishegoss aside, Skrillex has won 3 grammy's, not only for his electrolike Dubstep, but also for the sheer impact he made for the worldwide Dubstep movement and EDM as whole. The souls of our young generations are just as lost to narrowminded church communities, success formula boybands and advertising. Especially if the parents keep acting like this, thus provocing... polarity responses. It's purely a matter of attitude and people in Dubstep community are often very open minded people.

Even people that been hating Skrillex hopefully atleast got motivated. Specifically to act on their likes in Dubstep and get educated. For those who just hate for the collective hype... Go figure it out. There is no growth without some form of pain. Every kind of change comes with a certain amount of letting go. It's the holding on that makes things more painful. "But this has affected the deeper roots of Dubstep, It will never be the same you might say" So what now?

2012 will probably be the most crucial year for the Dubstep community in terms of proving the true potential. The floodgates have been opened for all respected subgenres. With this comes even more responsability for all the people seriously involved. So if you truly care about the genre as whole, ask yourself this question: Where do you really want this to go from here and what will be your contribution?

This is a very decent EP by Megalodon. Hailing from the city of angels that's also known as LA. Megalodon is bringing an EP that truly represents a deeper quality that USA has to offer. Both tracks have a high replay value and should do well in the charts.
