ANGER

The phone rung three times in her office and she picked it up. At the other end of the line, a strange female voice answered, “please rush to Queens Hospital your daughter is here and she is seriously injured!” Before she could ask who she was talking to the line was cut. In her confused state, she rushed to the hospital and when she got there, she only found a corpse of her daughter lying on the mortuary bed. She died just a few minutes before she arrived. Liz was her beloved second-born child who only turned sixteen a few days before she died the most horrified and gruesome death. She had a deep cut in her skull and another one on the left side of her face. The beloved daughter was hacked to death by the very same person who was supposed to be her protector, provider, and shield. She lost her life in the hands of her own father! Upon seeing the body of her dead child she collapsed and fainted consequently she stayed in the hospital for the next two weeks and she missed the funeral of her daughter and life never remained the same.

The beautiful girl was hacked to death by her father who was ever angry simply because she brought him water in a plastic cup, not a glass cup. Earlier that morning her father had an intense fight with her mother before she left for work and because he was still angry at what happened earlier that morning he took his anger on his own child and hacked her to death. This man had a history of being a high tempered guy like the Tasmanian devil and very violent when his temper flares. He would beat his wife and kids like animals, break the furniture, smash house windows and sometimes he would take his anger on the family dog who also died because of his beatings. Outwardly, he was a fine, smart handsome man, well-educated with a beautiful smile. No one could ever have known he was a boiling furnace inside. He had personal issues that he never talked about and he would flip over any trivial matter. My grandfather never had the ability to control and manage his anger!

Weapon experts say the most dangerous and lethal weapons are those that cannot be easily detected, those that are so subtle. A lot of such armories carry an enormous power of distraction and their effects last for a long time. They leave marks that can never be erased in history. Anger is one such weapon. Its destructive power at times is irreparable.

Oxford dictionary defines anger as, ‘A strong passion or emotion of displeasure or antagonism, excited by real or supposed injury or insult to one’s self or others, or by the intent to do such injury’. If this strong passion of displeasure is not managed well, it will cause havoc beyond comprehension. There are other people with unmanaged anger who are ticking time bombs. They can explode anytime! William DeFoore, an anger management writer, described it as a pressure cooker: we can only apply pressure against our anger for a certain amount of time until it explodes. This means that there is a limit to which we can mute the anger inside us before we wield to the pressure built inside us and explode. My grandfather gruesomely murdered his daughter because of anger. In its strong form (anger), impairs one's ability to process information and to exert cognitive control over their behavior. An angry person may lose his/her objectivity, empathy, prudence or thoughtfulness and may cause harm to themselves or others. Many of us can relate to this in our lives or of others.

Anger can be expressed passively or aggressively. Passive anger expression could be psychological manipulation, Evasiveness, and self-blame but the real threat is the aggressive anger which could lead to bullying, Unpredictability, Vengeance, and Destructiveness.

A few years ago one of my closest friend Kate lost her marriage due to uncontrolled and unmanaged anger. She would get flipped over trivial matters and she would shout, hit or break anything within her reach. Tony her husband tried to help her with her anger issues but it got to a point where one day she took a knife threatening Tony because she was asked to change the attire she wore as they were preparing to go to church. Tony thought that the attire was inappropriate for a church service. Kate thought he was controlling and bossing her and she exploded! She took a kitchen knife threatening to put it between Tony’s eyes. This was the cutoff point for Tony and he sought divorce and the custody of their three-year-old son. One beautiful family was torn apart because of uncontrolled anger. Her anger issues could be traced back to her childhood where she had an abusive father who used to beat her and her two brothers mercilessly every time they mess up or sometimes for no apparent reason. This environment bred a monster in her and she always felt venerable especially among men when they have a different opinion from hers. So her coping strategy was to get angry and shout at them mostly using very hurtful words.

Nobody is ever born angry but self-environments and situations have the ability to create one angry person if they are not handled properly. Anger can also be caused by Low Self-Esteem. For example, if a man feels inferior to a woman be it at work, school or at home, he might turn up to the angry Hulk. He would cover his efficiencies and deficiencies by being a red-hot iron. This could also apply if a wife earns more than the husband and she’s more educated than him. Every time she has a different idea to his, it becomes an issue. If she tries to question him about something, he feels undermined and he lashes at her which might lead to physical, sexual or psychological abuse. The same can be said about a wife who has a Low Self-Drive. Who looks at herself as unattractive and out of shape she might become angry and over jealously every time her husband talks to someone who she views as very attractive and better than her. Many have lost blessings, relationships, jobs because of unresolved personal issues which resulted in uncontrolled anger.

Studies have shown that uncontrolled and unmanaged anger can cause both physical and mental problems. Physically, anger can cause headache digestion problems, such as abdominal pain Insomnia increased anxiety depression high blood pressure skin problems, such as eczema heart attack stroke. Mentally anger can separate you from other people, keep you feeling like a victim, impacts your ability to be grateful and have a healthy spirit, feeling inadequate, depression and anxiety.

It should be pointed out here that getting angry is not wrong. It is not a sin, however, how you react and the actions that follow is what matters. A person who loses his cool more often can act foolishly and the book of Ecclesiastics says anger rests or resides in the bosom of fools. This is primarily because a lot of angry people act foolishly without thinking of the consequences of their actions only to regret afterward. Numerous times I have done that myself and the pains of regret are always enormous. This is also echoed in the book of Proverbs which says that ‘A quick-tempered person does foolish things and the one who devises evil schemes is hated.’ In other verses in the same book, it says ‘An angry person stirs up conflict, and a hot-tempered person commits many sins.’ It’s very easy to go wrong when anger is not controlled that’s the reason they say never make any decision when you are angry because it is constantly difficult to rationally reason in that state. Laurence J. Peter said, ‘Speak when you are angry - and you'll make the best speech you'll ever regret.’

Many of us can relate to this. There are choices, judgments, actions that we made because of anger and today we are paying the painful price of the consequences of our actions. We wished we could have reacted better than we did. We wish if we had reserved the judgment we passed until our minds were sober. We only wish if it was possible to turn back the hands of time, maybe the job, the opportunity or the relationship we lost wouldn't have been lost.

Now the question might be, how do we deal with anger issues? How do we manage anger? A lot has been written on anger management and the next article will highlight ways on how anger can be managed. Joyce Meyer said, ‘It's so important to realize that every time you get upset, it drains your emotional energy. Losing you are cool makes you tired. THE MAGIC WORDS

It a beautiful sunny day, clear clouds, birds sings, kids playing, it was just such a wonderful day until we heard a horrendous scream of a woman. We dropped everything we were doing and ran towards where the scream was coming from. We discovered that the heart breaking scream and crying was coming not far from where we were. We arrived at the scene only to find a women helplessly on the ground covered in dirty and an ocean of tears rolling down her cheeks. Her sight was so somber, heart breaking and very frightening that it made our eyes watery before we could even understand why she was crying. We inquired from her what the problem was, she didn’t respond in words but she just pointed at a window just above her. We went closer to the window to see what really made this women so broken and helpless. What we saw was so heart crushing, shocking, unbelievable and very painful. It was such a horrifying sight that made us shade a tear upon taking a gazing only once. It was very confusing to understand why. We all wanted a valid and better explanation on why did it happen that way and what was the reason behind this tragic situation and yet none of us had an answer. Until today the memories of that little 13 years old boy hanging in his room with an aluminium wire strapped on his neck, urine and feces on the floor brings sensations of pain and sadness to my heart. His eyes jutted like they would fall from their sockets signifying the painful, gruesome and inhuman death the poor little boy experienced. A stool on which he stood on laid upside down on the floor. My mind struggles to comprehend and accept the painful loss of such a young handsome. Potential lost.

As we stood at the scene police came and discovered a wet paper probably from the urine in the dead boys’ pocket. The paper was a note and the very last words the boy left to this world. The note had only one sentence. ‘Death is better than to be told that I have not future because I have AIDS!’ Apparently this boy was born with an HIV virus. The virus he took from his mom who was past gone due to the same disease. The boy was staying with his aunt and every time he was reminded by the aunt about his HIV status and it was used as a way to remind the boy about his position in the house. Whenever the boy makes a mistake, the aunt would speak hurtful words to the boy and the words you have no future were always what the boy heard every day. The neighbours said the boy used to tell his friends that his nothing and he wishes he could be free from the pain of dying a slow death like his mom because he has AIDS. These were just words, no physical harm was done to the boy but the constant outpouring of hurtful words was more painful and unbearable that destroyed the inner core of the boy. As Jessamyn West said, "A broken bone can heal, but the wound a word opens can fester forever." The result was this tragic loss. Words robed the whole world the gifts that the boy was born with. There was maybe a specific problem that the boy was born to solve that would have benefited the whole world but that problem might remain unsolved, depriving the whole world of a better place that we all crave and cry for every day.

Many of us can related to this sorrowful story. Every word we utter has an enormous power behind it that can give life or make the whole world to come down crushing to its knees. The tongue has no bones, but is strong enough to break a heart. There’s power to give life and cause death on the tongue. I remember attending a music show one day with someone so close and dear to me and we saw a young beautiful girl enjoying the show. She was dancing, jumping and shouting though her choreography was a bit out of sync with songs being played but she was happy, so free from any form of corruption and decay. My friend said, ‘she so innocent and she believes anything is possible until someone will come and destroy her confidence and innocence with words’. These words kept echoing in my mind until today. Then it dawn on me that what people need is that magic word, ‘you can do it and achieve great things in life’. These words work like magic. They change people from the bottom to the top, from a C student to an A student.

Some of us we are still struggling to make it to the top simply because someone told us that we cannot amount to anything, some of us lost opportunities that could have been life changing because no one believed in us that we can do it. I remember, I a struggled to understand and pass mathematics during my primary school days because the math teacher would always come in class and shout at us, reminding us how poor students we were. This made me believe that am dumb and I always failed math and this attitude and belief I took with it to my secondary school. I did not do well in math until one teacher told me that am smart and he doesn’t understand why I keep failing math. I told him that am very poor at math and I will not pass math. He told me that math is simple and I just need to believe that I can pass and enjoy working on math problems because he believes in me and my abilities. From that day I slowly developed a passion for math. Though I never became an A student in math but I moved from a D student to a B student. That primary teacher nearly succeeded to destroy my life because unbelief is so collusive and spreads like cancer to the other sectors of your life until you reach a point of believing that you’re useless and there’s nothing that you can do that will ever be good. It is the little foxes that cause a lot of damage to life than the hyenas. Foxes are fast and agile and they cause massive damage to an animal in short space of time. These little foxes are the small words we tell others or used to describe others. Words like useless, good for nothing, dumb, stupid and such other many words that dehumanises people. They sound easy and simple but they carry the power to brutally destroy ones confidence. A quote by unknown person says, "Be careful with your words. Once they are said, they can be only forgiven, not forgotten." This can’t be over emphasised. Words leave a permanent print in people’s hearts and as one of the greatest women ever lived, Mother Teresa said, "Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless."

KushandWizdom said, "Words are free but it’s how you use them that may cost you." See, there is always a cost that is attached to every word we utter. The cost once paid could bring about profits or super pain and regret as returns. The profits could be seeing someone you encouraged, motivated and inspired testifying that he or she has made it in life because of one small word you said that changed the trajectory his or her life for the better. We all need someone to believe in us. There are times when we can’t believe in ourselves maybe because of past failures or some negative and unfortunate situations but if someone tells us that we have what it takes to make it, it fires back that lost confidence in us even though if the person just said the words to please us and he or she doesn’t really believe in us but still the positive words makes a positive impact in our lives.

What we say are like seeds planted in a garden from which one day we could reap the fruits from. Some wise man once said that, ‘words are seeds that do more than blow around. They land in our hearts and not the ground. Be careful what you plant and careful what you say. You might have to eat what you planted one day.’ One day we will surely gather we had planted!

I would like to leave you with this thought: remember that time you were unfairly treated, criticized and told how bad and poor you are. How did we feel? How do we feel when we have given our best and someone comes and tells us that have we done is useless and trash without even recognizing the effort you have put into the work? How do we feel when no one believes in us, in our abilities, skills and talents? If feel bad about all this, what gives us the right to do the same to others? It only takes someone who has ever slept hungry to understand what it means to starve! It would be easy for such a person to provide a little morsel of bread to a starving person. Likewise, if we have ever experienced the pain of harsh and unedifying words, we should be able to say better words to others. If we have ever partaken in the joy of being edified by positive and encouraging words, reciprocating the same to other should be very fulfilling to us knowing that we have a difference in someone else’s life’s. We can change the word for the better by one kind word. Choose to be that person that makes a positive impact in people’s lives.

A Brood Of Unprincipled Leaders

Leadership isn’t the most important thing. It is everything to success. Nations and tribes rise and fall with leadership. Economic, social, spiritual development and growth all hinges on leadership. How far the nation can go depends on leadership. How generous and how wicked a people can be depends on leadership. Personal development depends also on how one governs and leads this or her life. There will not be progress or regression without the presence of leadership. Change can't happen without leadership. People can complain about bad economic and social conditions all they want but they will never change for the better without the presence of a good leader.

“A group of ships led by a lion will always defeat an army of Lions led by a sheep”. From this quote, a summary can be made that with leadership comes everything. The vision, attitude and the character of a leader will determine where the followers will end. How the followers behave is a direct replication of how the leader behaves. One can easily deduce that this particular group of people are the followers of such such a leader. This is so because leadership reproduces itself in multiplicity. If the leader is corrupt with a crooked mindset expect to have him or her in abundance from the followers. this will in turn produce a corrupt nation. You can't expect to have sweet water from a bitter spring.

An immoral leader will lead the nation into great levels of immorality and corruption and the world now is full of such leaders. From the above statements it still begs the question, how do we allow these leaders to lead when we full know that they are leading us into destruction?

The success of a family sorely stands on good leadership of the man or a woman (if it's a female headed household) in the house.

Leaders should have a vision of where they want to end up. They might not know how to get there but at least they have an idea where they are going. Can the blind lead the blind? Yes! But we all know where they will up. We also have this scenario where the blind are leading the sighted! Particularly in Africa where our leaders have no clue of where they are going!

The success of being a good leader is never measured by how many people follow you. A great leader is measured by the impact and the change he brings to his people. A great leader deploys his followers to help them be what they were meant to be. Great leadership is also measured by the continuation of the leader's vision after he is gone. If everything ends when the leader is gone then the leader has failed. This why we have power vacuums when leaders go. Discontinuation of development projects and plans.

Great leaders impacts people's lives through influence not coercion. In Africa for example we had leaders like Kamuzu Banda, Kwame Nkuruma, Julius Nyere who led the people with an iron fist. They practised humanism type of leadership where people basically worshipped them as gods. In Malawi and Ghana for example, the name of Kamuzu or Kwame could not be mentioned any how. People were told that the man could hear them whenever they mention his name. Their names were so fearsome to a point where one could not name their children the same name of Kamuzu. They ruled by taking advantage of people's spiritual weaknesses and putting fear in the hearts of people. They didn't influence people to be followers who could in turn develop into good leaders. Anyone who had a different mind and oppose them were either killed or imprisoned some for life. They are celebrated as fathers of the nation's but their leadership contributed to lack of development in African countries and the effects are still being felt today even after they are long dead. There were times when people were forbidden to own property more than what Kamuzu had. People were forbidden to drive expensive cars like Kamuzu. They suffocated development because people were so afraid to work and improve their ideas and skills to develop themselves and their communities. How ever this doesn't take away the contributions they made to their countries but they could have done more than what they achieved.

Leadership is about inspiring others to rise above their average potential. Great leaders don't manipulate but inspire people. Some of the leaders we have feast on taking advantage of people's ignorance and poverty to get whatever they want. There's a story of one of the presidents in Africa who took advantage of his people by lying to them that when he wins the elections he would buy them shoes. People voted for him but when he was reminded by them about his promise he turn around and told them to go away, calling them crazy. “How can I buy you shoes as if I know your sizes?”, he said. People forget that being a leader is not a right but a privilege. Leadership is based on trust. People let you to lead them because they trust you that you have what it takes to take them to the promised land but more often than not they break that trust from the very first day they are declared as the winner! One should always ask him or herself if one can be able to follow himself or herself. If we cannot follow ourselves why should others follow us? If cannot trust ourselves, why should others trust us?

Today we have a generation of leaders who are so selfish. They advance their personal interests and agendas. They are concerned with self enrichment not interest of the people they are supposed to serve. They don't have the moral obligation to serve the people. Leadership is about serving the people not to serve oneself or to be served. Today's leaders when they enter into agreements with corporations and financiers they negotiate about what their cut will be from the deal before thinking about the people. They focus on self enrichment while the majority are in entire need of basic necessities. They live large without caring for the people they are leading. Most of the deals they make have long term negative consequences that are paid by the next generation when they are all gone. Look at how Germans world image was tarnished because Helter? It had to take another leader who had a clear mindset and vision of where Germany need to be and today it's one of the powerful and great nations on earth. Nothing changes without leadership.

Today's leaders are the enemies of national progress and development. They have no vision and lack the mental discipline and capacity to lead people to a better life. They lack the leadership mentality of turning followers into great leaders who will carry on the vision when they are gone.

This goes to families too. A man who is supposedly be a leader of the family needs to have a clear picture of where his taking his family to but more often is the opposite. Men have no clue as to where they are taking their families. Most of them cannot give an outline of activities they want to take to achieve their families goals. How can they have activities outline to achieve their family goals if they have no purpose about their lives which brings out a vision and the vision produces goals both long and short term in order to achieve the vision which will fulfill the purpose. That lack of purpose leads men to wonder about like headless chickens without knowing what to do and where to go. A man who doesn't know where he is going is never lost! As a result of this, they waste time with unproductive behaviors like gambling and drinking alcohol excessively. This is why we have a lot of broken homes, unruly and spoiled kids. How then do we expect to have productive communities and nation since families make up communities and communities make up a nation. It is from these families that our corrupt and unproductive leaders come from!

For Africa and the whole world to change we need a different type of leaders, leaders who have a purpose and a vision that is beneficial to their people. They might not know the route but they exactly know their destination. We need leaders who are focused and determined to improve the betterment of their people. For this change to happen, we need to change this generation mindset. This change should start from the family because the leaders come from families. If corruption and rottenness starts at family level they chance of having a good leader in future is also doubtful! The change has to start with us! Remember as John C. Maxwell said, “Everything rises and falls with leadership”.

UNTOLD STORIES

Every face we see has a story to tell. Some stories will never be told for various reasons and others are told on a death bed. One thing for certain, there’s just something in us that nobody else knows apart from ourselves. It could be feelings, experiences, ideas and even stories.

From the creation of the world so many things have happened but not all are known. Some people who died did things that nobody knows about, all what we see are the results of their deeds and questions are asked but nobody knows the answers. We all end up assuming. This means that there are so many undiscovered secrets about various things from the past to the present. Every soul has a secret that nobody knows about. Happy faces out side but a mighty flow of tears and a feeling of loneliness in side and no one else knows about it.

Some stories remain hidden for fear of their destructive power they possess. This could be a thing done to benefit ones feelings and desires only but with bad repercussions to the outside world. The out side world might mean loved ones, our followers and friends. These are the Stories that can cause Armageddon to come to pass before its actual time if exposed. This is why people commit suicide, go crazy when their untold stories are told. Some of such stories are never said until one is on a death bed.

Some untold stories are so inspiring but they are still kept secret. These are the stories that have a potential to transform lives of other earthly beings into paradise. Some people never had a chance to tell their story to the world because they were silenced by someone or some people. Some of the inspiring stories were never told to the world because of selfish reasons. Not wanting some to benefit from their inspiring story. Others were not told because the author thought that their stories were not worthy to be told. This is still happening even today.

ACCEPTANCE & REALITY

Sometimes when reality catches up with you, you stand and watch with your mouth open most especially if you never expected it to happen. It doesn’t really matter if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. Now accepting reality sometimes can be very hard mostly if it has not gone our way. I honestly find that hard too but I have just realized is that the faster you accept it the faster the pains disappear. Facing the reality of losing a job, a child, partner and many other things that matters to us is not easy. Sometimes things just don’t work out they we wanted them to.

The accepting part can also be looked into two dimensions. The first one is accepting that some people like us while we don’t. Knowing that you are loved and cherished by someone you don’t can be very discomforting but we can’t make them stop. As a matter of fact you also love people who don’t even waste time to look at you. Be proud that you are at least loved by somebody. Love is love. It doesn’t matter where it going or coming from. The second part is accepting no matter how you try, you can’t get what you want. Harding working pays but it’s not always.

This doesn’t mean that we should not work hard but if our success is against the odds, well, let’s accept and let it go. I have also come to understand over the years that sometimes we waste a lot of time trying to make something work when it can’t and in the end we loss time and other opportunities. Had it been that the time and effort lost were invested in something else, things could have changed for the better.

Acceptance and reality are not easy but life has to go on with them.

WHAT ARE YOU WORTHY?

Have ever asked yourself about what you are worthy? What is it that can be able to buy you? A man who doesn’t understand him or herself will never know his or her value or what he or she is worthy. A certain wise man said,”You’re what you think.” A man becomes what he or she thinks. Your mind is like a garden and you’re like the gardener. If you don’t weed the garden anything that chooses to grow in the garden will grow and in the end you will have a garden that is filled with a lot of weeds that are useless. They just take up the nutrients that were supposed to be used by a crop phat could have been profitable to you. So this is what people who see the garden will say, “What a useless garden. What benefit is the gardener getting from it? Or maybe is the gardener himself who is useless for failing to weed it?” in other words what they are saying is that both are useless for they are failing to come up with good things out themselves. They are valueless.

So un weeded mind will lender it self useless so will it also be true with the host. We have people who are so corrupt that they don’t really care about themselves and most of them don’t give a damn about others as well. If one has a weak mind sees him or herself as useless if something goes wrong or if one messes up. So because of this they end up losing themselves by exchanging themselves with things that are far from their value. Some join groups that don’t conform to their standard and value.
In desperate situations some tend to go for anything that comes along. They join the anything goes club, the club that does not care about values and standards of themselves. Some men when they are frustrated at home they end up having relationships with ladies that are far worse than value of their wives and themselves. This also happens to women who end up sleeping with watchmen, gardeners and their drivers’, people who are far less in value and quality than their partners. These things show the devaluation of the person in value.

So what it means here is that everything starts from one’s mind. The mind that is not well tendered produces an irrational character and builds a low self esteem spirit that tell us that we are useless and anything can suit us regardless of its value and quality. So by all means be able to say no to anything that is not of your value and standard. Even a hooker sometimes turns down a client if they see that he’s worse than worse even if he offers her more cash for the service.

You have to know what you are worthy and then you can also be able to know the value of others. Even in hopeless situation not all kind of help will be equal to your value. Don’t just go for anything. Know that, the way you value yourself others will value you on the same level and this determines the respect you will get from them (people). No man is of no value. Don’t really care what people say about you. Stand up because you have a better value but this does not mean that you have be proud and regard others useless. If you dare do this you’re worse than a man without value.

communication is vital

Imagine a world without journalists, television, radios, internet and any communication media. Imagine the world without information and just to think of it a world without communication. What would it be like? For managers and business executives to make right and profitable decisions they need to be communicated with good and right information. Information is the backbone of every decision people make every day. Wrong information leads to wrong decision. Let me prove it. I head of a story real one, that a certain husband got the winds that his wife has been sharing his matrimonial bed with one of his friends. When he heard about it he confronted his wife with a lot of anger and without hearing the side of the wife he told her to pack and leave the house. He said he is not cheap to share a woman and he can not stoop so low to share a house with a woman who cannot keep her skirts zip closed. Better stay alone than share your hard earned money with a harlot. Three weeks down the line he found out that the story was just a rumor and nothing of it was true. He went to apologize to the wife and asked her for forgiveness. He said he was sorry for not giving a chance to hear her side of the story. He also said that he regretted his approach. He got wrong information.

The other story is almost the same but differs a little. A man finds his best friend having sex with his wife in his bedroom on his bed. The man walks straight to where he left his office keys, walks out of the room, closed the door and leaves with saying a single word. Whether the culprits finished there business is unknown. He comes home after work and finds his wife at the dining room. He walks straight to her and gives her a big hug and a kiss. This was a major surprise to the woman. After supper they went to bed and in the morning he leaves for work. This lived as if nothing happened. For three days the guy said nothing and on the fourth day as he was coming from work he found his wife’s body hanging. She committed suicide. Now between the two who did right in terms communication?

Silence is the best way to avoid being misquoted but it is not the best way to avoid being misinterpreted. Many things go wrong because of luck of communication. I have seen and heard of relationships being broken, marriages coming to an end, jobs being lost and a lot being lost. Now much as communicating is very important, good channels must be followed as well. Sometimes we try to communicate but on a wrong time and sometimes it happens that we try to communicate but to a wrong person. So this leaves us with a food for thought. Before one communicates there needs to be a good sense of time judgment. Assess the situation and see if it’s a good time to communicate. The other thing is, to whom are you communicating? You might have something that you really need to communicate to somebody but must first check if the person you are communicating to is a right one. Good information landing in the hands of a wrong person is a complete mistake. Some people don’t deserve to have information of some other things.

In communication approach matters as well. If the approach is wrong never expect to yield the intended positive results. Most people choose not to pay attention to what one is saying not matter how good the things might be because of bad approach. So check the time, approach, the person you are communicating to and the place. Choose a convenient place for communicating. Not anytime, person, place is good for communication.

Let us avoid a lot of misunderstandings and mistakes by trying to communicate well. Coming up with a channel of communication I believe depends on the person, time, place, e.t.c. its not easy but with a lot of effort, dedication, commitment we can make it. WE CAN DO IT, YES CAN!

SUDDEN DEATH

I have heard, read or witnessed suicide deaths before but it had never happened to a close friend or relative.But the recent death of my friend who chose to take away his life has had a big effect on my life. It has taught me a very important lesson that i will try not to forget.

Sam had just graduated from one of the constituent colleges of the University of Malawi with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a very intelligent friend who i adored since our primary school days. He was just brilliant beyond explanation.

He got born again in secondary and was active in youth fellowships. We all knew we had a strong member, advisor and a role model. He openly said that was a virgin even at 25 years and wanted to maintain that until he met his life partner.

The unfortunate thing happened when he joined a group of friends for a workshop at Lunzu Trading Centre. We are told that he was convinced to sleep with a prostitute. (I don't know how one managed to convince him to do such a thing). In the course of their time in bed the condom broke.

Sam was completely devastated by this and he could not live with it considering that he might have contracted the deadly virus, HIV. We all knew that things were not right with Sam and his friends revealed after he had already taken his life.

He had to die a cruel death just for the fact that he might have the virus. He was one friend that i admired and could not believe every word about what he had done.

A HEART OF A MAN

Times have really changed. Things are going to the abyss. Each and every day the world is getting bizarre stories and I have a true bizarre story that really happened to people I know. To some of you it might be shocking and to some it might be that you heard or maybe experienced a similar situation. When I heard about it I was really shocked. Telling you the truth, life sometimes is very unfair to people who are as innocent as infants. They get paid in wrong terms for their love, sacrifices, care and good will.

I will not use their real names for the sake of their privacy. Let’s call them Dan and Martha. Martha is a beautiful girl with so much love for Dan. She went through a lot of hard times because of him. There were times when Dan would beat her up, disrespect her in all kinds of manners, taking the hard earned money that Martha earned from her less paying job for beer. All these things were happening when Dan was not working. He stayed without a job for about two years and all the support was coming from Martha. She loved the man with all her heart and she never kept a grudge against him. Even after going through all these atrocities she kept telling herself that he will change for the better and life would be as it is suppose to be. Later Dan secured a job and her faith that things will be fine increased because she thought that maybe Dan was being naughty because he did not have a job but little did Martha know that there was mayhem she has to face, the greatest shock of her life that she has to accept and deal with it. This is where Martha maybe regretted of loving, caring and hoping for a better change.

What happened is that Martha and Dan were staying with Dan’s younger sister and Martha’s younger sister. So Dan’s sister one day after maybe after getting tired with the practice of being like a nurse to Dan or maybe she was feeling sorry for Martha spilled the beans to Martha. Dan had been on ARV’s for a long time and he never told Martha that he’s HIV/AIDS positive. Martha was shocked. She couldn’t believe it. Why Dan why? Why did you not tell me? She cried bitterly because she could not believe that the very same thing she has kept herself from getting was now enjoying a new habitation in her body. Its like over for her. Dan’s sister explained that she had been giving the medication to Dan everyday when Dan is bathing (in the bathroom). This was done so that Martha shouldn’t know. It was a secret he hid from the girl who took care of him and loved him with all her heart. After this, Martha asked Dan and the most unbelievable thing is that Dan never felt sorry or that he was wrong. His answer was, “yes it true. So what are you going to do about it?” this was like telling her that yes I have infected you with the HIV/AIDS virus. So what? He never apologized for what he did and he doesn’t regret infecting such an innocent person with HIV purposely. Now Martha has the virus and there’s nothing much she can do now.

Looking at this story I have really believed that a human heart is desperately sinful and beyond cure. How could Dan possibly be so very unappreciative? After all Martha did to him and he chose to repay her by infecting her with a virus? Just think of it if it were you in Martha’s shoes? If spouses and lovers do these things, then who else can we trust? I thought love is suppose to protect and wish every good thing to happen to the one we love? The real meaning of love is being devaluated by the sins of men. Without any apology I would say that what Dan did is completely inhuman and people like him who are heartless, ruthless, merciless don’t deserve a place in our world.

Now let us look at Martha. I believe that Martha has a part to share in this story on the negative side of the story of course. How could she possibly get into a sexual relationship with a man she doesn’t know his HIV/AIDS status? The world is preaching everyday that never sleep with a person you don’t his or her status without a condom or if you are one of those who hate condoms then never do it at all! She was stupid I would say to believe that Dan is pure and virus free maybe because of the way he was looking. People with AIDS are not stamped on their foreheads. One need to be very careful at all times. Martha should have told Dan gone for an HIV test first before getting engaged. She doesn’t deserve the Virus but she should also accept that she was not careful enough in the first place that could have prevented her from getting the virus. On the other hand it would also be wrong to blame Martha for not going for an HIV test before getting engaged. The reason is that none of us including Martha we don’t know when exactly Dan contacted the virus. It might be that he got it after the engagement. Either way Dan is fully responsible for kill such a young woman who is below thirty. Did I mention that Martha is an orphan and is responsible her siblings? Anyway having HIV doesn’t mean that is the end of everything. People stay with the virus for over twenty years. The only pain is that Martha has it (HIV VIRUS).

So what we should learn here is that looks mislead and let us never pass on judgment of any kind based on the appearance of a person. The other thing is that a lot of people we love and care they don’t love and care for us just as much as we do but many of those that we don’t care they cry for us everyday because they love us. Any man is capable of doing anything. Let us be very careful in what ever we do. Prevention is always better than cure.

Lose what you have but not your Family

Charity begins at home, so the old saying goes. Anything has to start at home. Before one do good to outsiders, one must start it at home or in the family. Family is a base or a platform for anybody to blossom and make it big. We all have heard of cases where some people are said to have a lot of problems in their lives because they never had blessings from their families. Everyone needs a family. I believe that the most horrible thing in life is to have no family. One can have all things in the world but happiness will never come if the person does not have a family. If we have a family, it gives us a feeling of belonging. We feel that we are not alone. The loneliest people are the ones without a family. The happiest people most of the times comes from good and healthy families. The importance of having a good and healthy family needs not to be over emphasized. It’s an inborn thing. It’s just natural.

A husband who has a nagging wife is more likely to lose his efficiency in what ever he does. This may result in him coming home very late, cheating and some start to use drugs just to avoid the nagging of the wife. All of this will boil down to the kids. They will not have time with their dad because the dad is always on the run. In the same vein a lying husband loses respect of his wife and forces the wife not to obey him. The husband who is never at home, who gives his first priority to his work, career, friends or what ever keeps him busy is worse than anything else. When this starts, one thing is for sure, the house will become a complete chaos. The wife will cheat on him, she will choose to spend time with her friends and the kids will have body to be with.

This is also true to parents who are ever busy advancing their careers, spends a lot of time at work maybe to make extra money or to impress the boss so that they keep a job. Some like socializing with friends and the kids are always at the receiving end. Parents who do not spend time with their kids are bound to have a disjointed family, unruly kids and most undeniably dull kids. A single-handed mother has to combine two responsibilities of being a mother and to fill the gap of a father. Let us face it, women no matter how good they can be they can not be a perfect substitute of a father. She is incapable of being a complete father to the kids. This gives her the pressure to give a balanced relation to the kids. She is supposed to have a fatherly role and at the same time to discharge her duties as a mother. The same is true for the husbands who raise the children all by themselves. They combine the two contrasting roles of being a father and a mother. No matter how the bad the mother can be but fathers will never fill the gap the mother leaves. The relationship between children and mothers differs to the relationship they have with their fathers. Some children tend to love their mother more than they love their father but this does not mean that they do not need the father. So is true if they love the father more than their mom.

Mothers provide most of the times emotional support and skills to the kids and fathers would provide guidance, knowledge, discipline and skills to their children. If a father can fit perfectly into a motherly role why then do have women around and vise versa. For children to grow well into good and reliable citizens, they need all parents to be there for them. Most children who come from separated and divorced families have mental and psychological problems than the ones coming from families with both parents. Some have the bad feeling that they are not loved or needed and this leads to withdraw from social groups, family gatherings and even in school groups. In short I would say this kind of environment is not conducive to a good child development.

I remember listening to one child who stays with his father saying that his dad is everything to him but still he feels that something is missing and that is the mothers love, passion and care. He said he misses his mom even though his dad is around. These kinds of sentiments can be shared by many children who are staying with one parent only. It’s a burden to children only that they might not say anything but it hurts inside. Some grow up without knowing what it means to be a good dad or a mother because they never learn from them. They might turn out to be very bad parents not because they are but they never learn or saw what it means to be a good parent because theirs were not there to teach them. So this goes to all mothers and fathers who are either not there for their children or they are thinking of leaving the house.

Honestly speaking, hate or disagree with me but every parent who do this is one hell, crazy, selfish person who thinks of him or herself and not the children. Some of you who are doing this or maybe you’re thinking about doing it please know it that you need to make sacrifices for your children. Being a good parent does not mean spoiling the kids with all kind of presents, gifts and money. What they need most is our presence and time. Set aside a little time for your kids. What is better to make other people happy and be a big disappointment and wimp to your family? You always have the confidence to face the world and challenges out there if everything is fine at home.

THE FALLEN HERO (R.I.P JACKO)

Just as there's a thin line between love and hate so is also true with life and death. You meet somebody today full of life, the next thing you will hear tomorrow is that the man is dead. Such is the truth about life. Just this year i have been shocked by death news. The first was my uncle who after working the whole day on his house (he was building) with his builders, felt ill the same day night and he died in early hours of the next day. This shocked me. How can a man who was full of life die like that? He never had any serious health problems to justify his sudden death. The second one was my own friend Nkasa (not Joseph Nkasa) who died more less the same kind of death. Now the recent one being Micheal Jacko Jackson. His sudden death has not only shocked me as an individual but also the whole world. I had been a fan of Jacko for a long time. This guy was about to make a come back starting from 13 July, 2009 which could have seen him going for a tour and he was about to have 50 concerts in his tour. This i believe could have had a positive impact on his rather troubled life.

Jacko will be always be remembered as a hero in the music circle. His work inspired many into music like Usher Raymond and me. Today Usher is a great musician while i am a great listener. All sorts of bad things were said about him while he was alive but his achievements over shadows his mistakes. America and the whole world has lost a great talent.

Jackos' demise has confirmed to me that nobody owns life. Today is Jacko tomorrow is you and me. What legacy are we going to leave behind? Death comes to all, to The good,The bad and The ugly.

R.I.P Jacko. We will for ever miss you.

Oh! I should have known!

When you dance to the devil’s tune, on a devil’s dancing floor and you dance with the devil himself never expect that he will change his dancing steps to yours but rather he will change you. You can never be in control in a devils castle. One would ask how does one end up dancing with the devil in the first place? First he traces your mind and gets to your weakest area from there he sits down and opens a very powerful and effective workshop. He works in your mind and corrupts it. What happens next is the changing of a man from better to worse. What remains of him/her is a shadow of the former person he/she was. Then people will start to wonder what has happened to the man. Questions they would ask but answers they will not find. Trying to trace the origin of the sudden change of the person, you will find out that there is a parasite living in the person.
I know you are wondering, what is up with the devil’s issue? Yeah, it is just a figurative description of people who are undeservedly called friends. These types of friends I would call them bloodsuckers’ friends. Before I processed let me put it blunt here, every type of relationship/friendship has an element of exploitation but what matters most is the degree at which one is exploiting the other and at which one is being exploited. I do not really know if you will agree with me but take it from me, it is true. Now these bloodsuckers’ type of friends what they do is that they look in us and try to find if we have a gift, talents, skill and blessings. When they find these things they will try to get to us just to use what we have and most definitely they will use them to their advantage but in return they leave a big whole of corruption.
They know exactly what we like and they will tell us only what will be pleasing to our ears. The real things are hidden so that we should not be disappointed. The only things they tell us are good things only. They praise us and fill our ears with sweet lies. As time goes by we tend to like them and trusting them follows. We make sure that they get the best from us. We confide with the most hidden things that nobody else knows out of belief they are worthy to trust. They pretend to have our interest upon their hearts. The only thing they try not to mess up is failing to enrich themselves with our gifts, skill, talents and blessings. What happens to us after that is none of their business. They suck our good things without mercy and they leave nothing good in return.
There are times when one makes a mistake and these types of friends will never rebuke. The one who rebukes when one has make a mistake is far much better than a man who shower praises when one has achieved. As much as a lot of us hate to be rebuked and criticized but a fellow who criticize us constructively is a better person to share our wealthy with than a man who never rebukes us when we make a slip-up. There are times we know that we have make a blunder and comes a friend and tell us that we have done good or just pretends as if nothing has happened. Just know that you have a gold-digger.
What we have to bear in mind is that not everybody who is called a friend has got real good wishes for us. Some are fair weather friends. When they get what they wanted from you, they damp you because you are no more use to them. This is the world where everything is not is as it seems. Therefore, a lot of caution is supposed to be taken when making friends and relationships. Caution is supposed to be taken in all sectors of life. Choose wisely and spare yourself the pains of betrayal. The best of friends are friends who are always there in all times. They praise and rebuke us where and when it is necessary. We can never be better if we are not rebuked and corrected. Therefore, those people who never correct us are the people who do not want us to be better. In simple terms, they do not love us. Make a better choice today and protect yourselves from tomorrow’s lifetime regrets.

SECRET ADMIRERS

For the past ten years i have had a privilege of standing in public and addressing people on various issues. It has been a very good experience. One thing that i have learnt is that people like to follow our actions than our words. I have also noted that we have lots and lots of secret admirers who are shaped by our actions.

They rarely come in the open or speak to you directly. Silently they follow every move you make. They cannot find time to congratulate you, condole you or at least say something. You are either too busy to notice them or you just choose to ignore them. But little do we know how we inspire their lives, how we motivate them or challenge them. You don't have to be a super celebrity to have them, they are there watching you always. They are found in places you least expect them to be. Away from your family, school, work or church.

Many people desire to be leaders. To have big crowds follow them, take instructions from them or respect them. But they forget this important constituency of their lives, the secret admirers. These are the genuine followers who are attracted to you by real reasons. They are happy when you are and grieve when you grieve. They have genuine concern for your well being. They work hard in life to be like you or to be where you are. They know your story better than anyone else because they have secretly researched your life. You didn't choose them but they chose you.

The danger of it is that we have little or no influence to take them back when we lose them. " I never expected so and so to do this" is what they say before going away for good. Some have ended up losing hope in life because of what their admired people had done. We lead the way and they follow us through having confidence in us. They have big expectations and it pains to let them down.

Think of many lives that you have touched or inspired by your actions. Think of the impact you have had in their lives. What if they know that you also have the other side you don't show in public. You can try to find your way by powerful and rhetoric speeches. But actions will always speak louder before you open your mouth. Watch your ways someone is following you and needs your guidance.

keep it if you have it but never lose it

Who in the world does not need it? Presidents, heroes, slaves, pastors, me, you, everybody needs it unless if you are an alien in this part of the living called Earth. This thing makes a person to be complete. Without it, man will always remain incomplete. No wonder we have real cases in our world where by people go beyond the extremes in search for it. Some use magic, prayers, money, lies and power. Some become stupid, fools, idiots and some even kill just for that little thing that man cannot do without. When man fails to get it, what awaits him/her is some creature that wears different ugly faces. Some kill them safes, go mad or become serial killers in short man becomes something else that is completely different from himself/herself. What do you think is the thing I am talking about? I am talking about “LOVE”.

People I know like my mother, my uncle, my beloved aunt Mercy, my girlfriend and friends have made sacrifices for me and all the sacrifices were done in the name of love. Some made the same for you as well and you have made some for others too. For me, let me tell you the truth, I have made a lot and a lot more for people both close to me and some who were never my friends. Telling you the truth, many people never appreciate what I did to them and in the end, what I got were terrible things. Everybody who knows how to give love to someone can agree with me that when giving love to someone you expect that person to appreciate and show at least that your love means something to them but whenever they don’t show that they appreciate, it breaks the heart. Some people takes for granted the love they receive and they always say that it was suppose to be or its their responsibility to love me but they forget that being loved is the cry for everybody and to love somebody is a choice. One can choose to love or not.

Let us face it, there are some of us who knows how to love and there are those who gets a lot of love but do not appreciate. Now the problem is, when one chooses to love somebody, it settles in the mind and for it to be removed it is not easy and if it succeeds, it gets out with a lot of pains. When love is betrayed, it breaks the spirit and that is the hardest part of man to heal. We constantly remember how much we loved someone but it did not mean anything to them or they did not give it back in return. When love is lost it is so hard to get it back, even if we manage to get it back it does not come back as it was before. It loses its quality, favor, cent and meaning. It is only the love of God that is never devalued by man’s actions but man’s love wears thin each time it is broken.

As many are busy hurting others by not appreciating and giving back the love they are getting, many are also wandering around looking for the same love others are taking for granted. Never put another man’s love to test because you might go beyond limits and breaks it. Always bear it in mind that people are different and they have limits where they can take things. Others endure for long period while others do not. One little thing, might make one to lose his/her love. Always know the most fragile part of a man is the heart where love resides.

The people who love most are not loved much. Yes, this is true except for a lucky few. Loving somebody is a risk because the one we love might break our hearts but there is nothing much we can do about it. If we stop loving, we will not be ourselves. Some of us were born just to love. Let us keep on loving even if we don’t get it back. For you who are loved, look at it as a privilege. Never ever think that it was meant to be. Someone out there is looking for the same thing. Remember there are always substitutes to each and every game.

TRUST

TRUST

“I just can’t believe that it was you all this time around. How could you do such a thing to me? You have betrayed me. You have let me down!” These could be the words of a man whose heart and trust have been broken by someone he/she trusted. Let us face it, it is hard to come to terms with the reality that the person we trusted with all we had betrayed us. In many cases, people we trust are the ones that betray us or let us down. Look at Peter who was the closest person to Jesus let him down by denying him, Judas plotted against him and handed him over his enemies, spouses cheating on their partners, husbands defiling their baby girls, leaders fails to fulfill their promises they made to their followers, men of God lying to their sheep’s. All these shows us that trust is always broken by the people who were suppose to protect and cover us.

Cursed is a man who puts his trust in a man. Why is it so? Because men are, evil and they are filled with selfish ambitions and desires. When we put our trust in a man, I believe we do that at our own risk because we do not really know if the person is not going to betray us. Telling a secret to a friend be sure that there is a possibility that he/she might not keep the secret. Most of betrays are done out of selfishness, covetousness and sometime fear but the reasons do not really matter. Betrayal is betrayal.

One more question, is it always true that people we cover their mess up trying to protect them. Can they do the same to us if we were in their shoes? My opinion is no. Not all will and you will start thinking of all the things you have done to protect the friend sometimes risking yourself for them to be free but here they are, failing to give back what they got from you.

Now the question is should we stop trusting people? NO! The only thing I am saying is that, we should just be very careful with people we trust because there are times when we cannot even trust ourselves and we need somebody to trust. Always remember that a heart of a man is desperately wicked and beyond cure. Nevertheless, we still need someone we can trust but just be conscience and careful with people we trust and be ready to face the consequences if the person does otherwise.

FACING REALITY

I have had problems recently to come to terms with some issues I face in life. I have tried to hide my issues to the world but to no avail. They still find a way to show their ugly face to the world.I am who I am. There are some things in life we need to face even though we don't want them. Facts will always be facts regardless of what our opinions are.

Most of us try to live our lives in illusions. Preferring to show only the best sides of our lives. I have met several people who borrow clothes and other things from friends just to show that they are well to do when they are not. In fact I know of a person who managed to convince a girl to marry him because of materials belonging to his friends. You can guess what happened after the girl found out.

Its a fact that some things that happen to us are not good to be known by our friends, girlfriends or workmates but to live a life completely different from what we are supposed to live is not good. I have tried it and it doesn't work. You end up being a slave. You don't have peace of mind which is an important ingredient in life's success.

We all need to face some realities in life. We need to accept some things and find a way of sorting them out or asking for help. If you have a problem and you choose to hide it, you will hinder others who might help you. Once i discovered this fact of life I am a very free person. I am free to dress in any way and go to any place i want to go without thinking of what people will say about me.

Life is hard for impostors or those who live double lives. Just come out of your senses and live your own life regardless of what people will say about your situations. There are some situations we face which we cannot change or overturn. Just accept the reality and plan to move forward. Real and original people are making it big in life because they are just playing their real game.

Never Give Up

hey say no pain no gain. Regardless of how many times one fails but still having the heart to move on and try again is what differentiates achievers and failures. People who made a mark in this life be it sometime back or now had to withstand the reality of feeling and enduring the pain, frustration, discouragements, insults and even ridicules.

After the storm after comes the calm and this seems to have worked for one of the Malawian musician, Joseph Phungu Nkasa. It took him a long time before people in Malawi recognize that there is a man who answers to the name of Joseph Nkasa. He released about five albums and still he failed to penetrate into the music industry and make a name of himself in the music circles. This man had a big heart and hope that one day he will make it. This paid off when he realized his 6^th album. He made a lot sells breaking the record for the first time in his life. He was highest seller in that year. It did not take long when he received a check of MK 1,000,000 as royalty bonuses from Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA). Just in a blink, the person who had toiled for almost his whole life became a millionaire in just a short period of time beating other musicians who had made names for themselves but failed to break the record as Nkasa did. He moved from highly populated areas where life is unbearable to low density areas. A man, who did do well in academic circles, was now sharing the same streets in low density areas with well-educated people.

Willingness to move on no matter what happens in most of the times brings good things. From this real story of Joseph Nkasa, we can learn that life does not provide all goodies. One has to be strong to get to levels of excellence. If you fail, look back and see what went wrong and try to find another way out. You might lose the battle but you have not los the war. Be confident in yourself and you will make it. Go out to the world confidently and prove yourself that you are the best.

In the next coming days I will give you stories of people who failed for several times but made it big because of the never give up spirit.

WINNERS DON'T QUIT

I like winners. They have very rare qualities which i admire one of which is that they don't quit. In tough situations they still move forward to accomplish their goals. Amidst strong opposition they find their way and win. When all their friends are giving up, throwing the towel, they push forward.

In football, golf or tennis, they use the same pitch, rules and are controlled by the same referee but they emerge winners. In life they meet the same problems we encounter everyday; sicknesses, losing loved ones, rejections, marital issues yet they come out clean.

At the workplace, they follow the same company rules and do everything else as commanded. Yet when all of you are complaining, changing jobs and backbiting, they are there succeeding. Promotions, awards and recognitions come their way. They are always confident of whatever they are doing. They believe in what they do.

Think twice if you feel like quitting. Success does not come on a silver platter. Go for it!! work for it! There is no life without challenges. Even winners face them daily. Only that they turn them to their advantage and move forward. They turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones. Quitters are losers. Please don't quit, fight on!!

There comes a time in life when one makes a mistake whether by design or not but soon we realize that what we have done has cost us a lot. Our mistakes affect a lot of people directly and indirectly and people suffer physically, mentally and maybe financially. In the next posts i will give out some of my personal mistakes that affected people around me. On the other hand, our achievements inspires many to realize their dream. It takes one man to tell a story that will motive many to change the world for the better.

This blog will talk about real issue of real people and their experience so that we can learn from each others experiences. the focus will not be on mistakes only but also on achievements
