List of Preschool in Manila

As early as now, if you decide to enroll your kids ages 3 to 4 years old next school year, then you should hunt for preschools near your area already. Gone are the days that the only criteria of parents in choosing a school was it should be the NEAREST preschool in the neighborhood.

Now, parents has lots of criterias in choosing preschools for their kids.

Some of the criterias are the following:

1. Teaching Method

Traditional- teacher being the controller of the learning environment. This is most practiced during my time
Progressive- is the opposite of traditional method where students is expected to follow and do what the teachers told them. Here they are given a problem that they should solve based on what they think will be right. They emphasis learning through doing and hands on projects.
Montessori - is characterized by an emphasis on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological development, as well as technological advancements in society. This method believed that children at liberty to choose and act freely within an environment prepared according to their model.
Developmentally Approach Practice (DAP) - encourages teachers to make choices about education based on sound knowledge of child development and learning processes while taking into account individual differences and needs, as well as social and cultural constructs.

2. Student Ratio - Some Traditional schools have 1 teacher to more or less 20-30 students. Those who prefer other approach have a 1:15 ratio or 1 teacher and 1 teacher aide to 10 to 15 students. As for me, I prefer a small group since my son may be overwhelmed with a large group and so that the teachers can teach them easily.

3. School Materials and space- for me the area should be safe for any kids. I prefer if the school has a play area that kids can use for breaktime.

4. Location- look around your area first.

5. Tuition Fee- most private preschools now has a tuition fee that range from 30-100 thousand a year. Only few offers tuition fee around 10-20 thousand. It is just sad that even though you love a certain school, the tution fee discourages you to enroll your child there.

My son is currently enrolled to a Montessori school here in Sta. Ana (Global Gleam Montessori). I don't have any problems with the school, the teachers and the administration. I even recommend them if you are near the area and you want a montessori kind of teaching. But his Occupational therapist advised us to try other methods of teaching next school year (2012-2013) , so I am thinking of transferring him to a preschool that uses a Progressive teaching method.

Yesterday, I hunted for preschools in our place and here are some I have visited.

As you can see, most of the schools near us offers the Traditional method. I hope I can find a progressive type of school in the next days. I will update this list when I have visited other schools next time.

Wall-E movie teaches us to protect the environment

It takes almost 10 years for a tree to grow to it's full size, in colder areas, they say that it takes more than 100 years for the tree to reach it's full size. If you want your kids to experience the beauty of nature and green surroundings, then, you must consider planting plants and trees in your area as early as now.

I am one of the few who doesn't have a green thumb, I always fail to make a plant grow from seeds or small scrubs. But, failing didn't discouraged me to have plants on our place. My solution is to buy plants with roots already, although I still lost some after transferring it to a bigger pot, there are still a few who are strong and managed to survive.

Last time, I posted here the movies I recommend for kids to watch, and I forgot to include Wall-E there.

The movie Wall-E from Pixar has lots of moral lessons that kids and adult can get. Beside eating moderately and exercising so that you will not get fat, I think the most important message there that should awaken us is to take care of our environment since we don't have anywhere else to go if it will be destroyed.

My last visit to Baguio was year 2003 (the first one was year 2001) and I can say that from a span of 2 years there are already lots of changes that happened in the area. Since the population is rising here and there, I am not surprised to see a lot of houses and establishments in the area. Back then, SM Baguio is still newly opened.

Now, I have read that SM Baguio will uproot almost 200 trees to have a space for a parking lot. The idea is to Earth-ball the pine trees and transfer it to another area (but where can they put it if there are some many houses there already?), and SM also promised to plant 50 new trees for every 1 old tree that will be cut or uprooted for the project (again, the question is where will they put the new trees?). As I have said earlier, it takes 10 years for these new trees to reach their full size..

These promises are good if you don't know what happened to the past trees that were being earth balled. Dr. Michael Bengwayan (executive director of Cordillera Ecological Center-PINE TREE) said that, for the 497 pine trees that were being earth-balled by Camp John Hay Development Corp. last 1994, only less than 20% survived and those not dead were showing signs of deteriorating. So, we should expect that out of the 187 Pine Trees that will be uprooted, more or less only 30 trees will survive.

Summer is fast approaching, and Baguio is the number 1 tourist destination to those who want to cool down, but can Baguio still provide the cool air when there are only a few trees standing. If the people in this area will not do something to rebuild what Baguio looks and feels like what it was before, then the amount of oxygen will be even not enough for all of them.

I think SM will listen to the Baguio people, since they promote green living. I know they will not do something that will destroy the environment (to SM Baguio please prove that I am right).

I hope this year I can bring my whole family to Baguio, and I hope that my son will still see the beauty and feel the cold weather of this place when that time comes.

My recommended movies for kids!

My family loves to watch movies at home, it is one of the things we do together. Husband and I both love Mystery, Suspense, Horror, Adventure, Sci-Fi and Comedy (I am not that fond of Romance and Action that much). When Ren came in the picture, I learned to watch cartoons and love anything from Disney, (my husband is already into cartoons when he was a kid). Although my son loves to watch movies, I see to it that he only watches movies that are kid-friendly meaning no harsh words, not much fighting scenes and it must have something that he will get a moral lesson afterwards.

I compiled some movies that we have already seen and the reasons why we love them.

1. Beauty and the Beast- this is the first movie that my son fell in love with. The main reason I think is that he is fascinated with the song arrangement and the voices of the characters. The moral lesson here is that you should not judge someone because of their appearance. You need to be with them for a while to get to know them more.

2. Toy Story - Who will not fall in love with this movie? It will touch your heart whatever age you are right now. On the first sequel of this movie, Woody felt jealous when Buzz Lightyear took the center stage as the new toy in town. But when the time came that Buzz Lightyear needed Woody's help, he came to the rescue and they became best of friends. This movie will show kids how to deal with rivalry and that if you give someone a chance, even though you hate him/her he may become the closest friend that you will ever have.

3. Cars- I like the first sequel compared to Cars2, since it is more touchy and dramatic. Ren love this movie because he likes toy car, unfortunately there are a scene there are some words that need to watch out for like "turn on your light you moron" so parents need to guide their kids when watching this movie. Moral lesson here is that helping a friend or anyone is more important than winning, which should be learned by some politician isn't it?

4. The Incredibles - Nobody is perfect, that is why, even heroes with superpowers have their flaws too. Since the Parrs is a family of superheroes, they are not perfect too. But when they stick together and believe in each others strengths, they can fight evil and save the world.

5. Happy Feet - Since Ren is quite different from his peers, this movie inspired us. This movie shows that being different is not easy, and that you will encounter challenges and bullies on your way, but if you stay true to who you are and as long as you are not hurting anybody, you can inspire change. I believe that Ren will be a blessing and an inspiration to anyone someday.

These movies are just a few of our favorites. Will update this list as soon as I remember other movies we have already watched.

I never had a Tagalog post here ever since it started 3 years ago. I have a lot of foreign readers and I know they will not understand any word that I say if I post Tagalog here. Well, since my birthday is coming soon, I decided to make something different here and that is to post some questions that I will answer in Tagalog.

Who is Levy as a person?

Si Levy ay masayahin na tao pero masungit din. Feeling ko may attention disorder ako, kasi pag di ako interesado or maka relate sa sinasabi ng kausap ko di ako nakikinig at kung saan saan lumilipad and isip ko. (parang nag lelevitate... hmmm alam ko na san ko nakuha yung levyousa)

What is the best part of your day?

Pag gising ko ng umaga at pinanonood anak at asawa ko habang nahilik sila pareho. Pag dinner din kasi sabay sabay kami nakain pagkatapos manonuod kami ng movie together.

What word/words best describes you as a mom?

Tingin ko ako ay passionate. Lagi ko kini kiss si Ren kahit ayaw na nya... mula ulo hanggang paa kahit 4 years old na sya. Di din mawawala ng pagsabi ko ng 'I love you' araw araw. Ako din ay flexible at multi tasker. Tinuturuan ko si Ren na pwede gamitin ang paa pag may pupulutin hahaha.

What is your parenting styles?

Di ako mahigpit, sabi nga ng mister ko masyado daw ako kampante mag-alaga sa anak ko. Meaning I let my son do what he wants to do as long as I think he is doing something that wouldn't hurt him or anybody. I let him play in groups and just look from a far. I want him to learn that he can do anything he wants but still he must know that he has a limitation. I don't want him to get hurt but I want him to experience pain since that is when he will know how to stand and learn from the mistakes he had done. I want him to learn that family always comes first so I always bring and introduced him to all his relatives here and in the province. (di ko mapigilan mag English)

What's your dream for your child?

Madami akong dreams for Ren bago pa sya lumabas sa mundo, na sana maging piloto, doctor or captain sya ng barko. Pero lahat ng yun magbabago after ma realize ko na di lahat ng bata pare pareho. Na di mo pwede ipilit ang gusto mo, dahil may sarili syang pagkatao at tanging Diyos lang makakapag sabi kung ano sya pagtanda. Sa ngayon ang pangarap ko lang sa kanya ay maging mabuti syang tao, may takot sa Dyos at sa'min ng daddy nya at sana matuto syang makisalamuha sa lahat ng klase ng tao (mayaman man o mahirap) tulad ng mommy nya hehehe. Challenge kasi kay Ren ang socialization kaya sana ma overcome nya yun habang tumatanda sya.

What's the more surprising thing about parenthood?

Na di pala madali at puro sarap ang pagiging magulang. Kailangan mong isang tabi minsan sarili mo at gusto mo para sa anak mo. Na may mga bagay ka na dapat isakripisyo para sa pamilya mo tulad ng pag-alis ko ng work para sa kanila pero lahat ng yun ay worth it at di ko naman pinagsisihan.

Do you have a me time?

OO naman. Di naman yan nawawala kasi kahit stay at home lang ako naniniwala kaming mag-asawa na dapat may time ka pa din sa sarili mo. Kahit simpleng pagbabasa ng magazine, pag punta sa mall or pagbababad sa internet ay consider ko na "me time" na din.

What's the best lesson you've learned from your son?

Yung pagiging masunurin. Lagi kasi ako nasasabihan ng mister ko na stubborn daw ako. Si Ren kasi kahit minsan ayaw nyang gawin pag sinabi ko or kahit sinong nakakatanda sa kanya sinusunod nya pa rin, ako naman nagagalit at naiirita pag kinu correct.

Isa pa, yung pagiging malambing at walang grudge. Kasi pag napagalitan ko sya he will say sorry sabay kiss. Tatandaan nya yung mali nya at di na gagawin pero di sya nagtatanim ng sama ng loob. He is too young pa naman kasi pero hopefully makalakihan nya ang ganong ugali.

Ang isa pa sa mga tinuro din sa'kin ni Ren na talagang nakaka challenge ay ang pagkakaroon ng mahabang pasensya. Noong una ang dali kong magalit sa kanya pag di tama mga sagot nya sa assignment at minsan umiiyak pa ko kasi sobrang nang gigigil na ko. Which is sobrang mali kasi hindi matututo ang bata ng isa o dalawang beses lang, kailangan mong ituro ang isang bagay ng paulit ulit para matandaan nya.

After answering these questions, it feels that I know myself more now. I think I'll do this again, but I don't have any more questions in my mind.

Can't wait to finally transfer to our new home at Camella!

I am so glad that my family will soon be living in quieter surroundings, where we can breathe fresh air and have a lovely spot for our dear plants. That would be at our newly bought house in Camella Homes, Molino, Bacoor Cavite.

At the moment we don't have any outdoor space for a garden so the plants are in pots. I look forward to being able to go outside and feel the cool, relaxing breeze whilst I sit in our new garden. My husband and I are planning to renovate one of the rooms on the second floor to become a terrace or a balcony. I want to make it a place to relax and unwind; we will put some luxury garden furniture to give it the perfect finish.

I love this lightweight relaxing chair that is ideal for spending hours in the balcony or in the garden.

We went to our home-to-be last Tuesday to check the interior, making sure that there's nothing wrong, and if there is the contractor can fix it before transferring the property to us. Are minds are now focused on how we are going to decorate it, my mom even gave us some curtains! She also brought some potted plants for the front and back yards – our outdoor space is becoming a dream already!

I am planning to hire a landscaper designer for the house's exterior, I'm quite sure they can bring it to its full potential and all that is left for me to do is buy some outdoor furniture to make it complete. I can almost feel the breeze already - windy but comfortable - just perfect in a tropical country. Rattan garden furniture will look give the garden a homey, country look. I am also thinking of adding some wind socks that I can hang around the garden which looks really peaceful when swayed gently by the wind.

My family and I are so excited to finally have a house outside the metro. A place where we can rest, relax and enjoy a quiet and undisturbed night of sleep. It may be small for some, but with some interior designing, I know it will look big and welcoming.

Hotwheels cars are parking in the house!

My son is getting older (I think), because his likes and interest are getting more matured. He is not interested to Viking Toys anymore, he said goodbye to Tomas and Friends, to Lightning Mcqueen, to Mater and the rest of the crew of the movie "CARS", now he is into Hotwheels and few Diecast cars.

It started when he had watched various Hotwheels Toy Reviews on YouTube together with his daddy. Now, whenever we stop by any Toy Stores the first thing he visits is the HotWheels cars section. Hotwheels are cheaper than Matchbox so it's a good thing he is more interested in the former.

He started collecting Hotwheels cars just last month (December) and now he already has 9 of them. Because of this, my husband had an idea to review my son's toys and made his Toy Blog for it (check it out HERE)

I think my husband is a great influencer to my son. Now Ren likes to watch old cartoons like COMIC STRIP, Thundercats, Voltron and Transformers to name a few. As for me, I get bored whenever they are watching those cartoons. I don't watch TV much when I was a kid, most of the time I'm outside the house playing Piko, Tumbang Preso and other fun activities with other kids, so every time hubby asks me if I remember cartoons like this and that, and all I can say is "Do they exist?" lol

Does your kid have a cold?

An estimated 1 billion people all over the world suffer from allergies, and right now my son is no exception. His doctor told us that it was just that time of year and it is just common to have colds during these times. So if you or any of your love ones are experiencing coughing, have a runny nose and a sore throat, here are some remedies and some foods that you can eat to help fight this.

1) Vitamin C and D
Taking Vitamin C daily could reduce the possibility of catching the common cold. It is one of the most known cold remedy. Research reveal that people with higher amounts of vitamin D may have a reduced risk of catching colds.

2) Add some garlic to your diet:
Garlic is one of the known cures for colds. It is usually added to chicken soup or even made as a drink with raw crushed garlic.

3) Honey
Studies show that honey does not only help prevent colds but also may help to calm children's coughs and help them sleep better. But this is not recommended for babies younger than one year old, because of the risk of botulism. Regular intake of honey may also promote the development of cavities.

4) Eucalyptus Steam Inhalation or Vick Vapos rub Inhalation

This was done to me by my mother whenever I had a runny nose when I was little. She would put a small amount of vapor rub on a mug with newly boiled water and using a makeshift funnel out of a piece of paper, she would let me inhale the fumes. Just a few seconds afterwards I could already feel the easeness of breathing. A steam inhalation with eucalyptus oil may help to ease breathing.

Unfortunately my son has G6PD (more about this on the next post) so I can't give him any menthol because it is one of the things that is prohibited for kids who have G6PD.

Family Getaway-Panangbenga Festival 2012 at Baguio City

My last visit to the City of Pines was a business trip last 2003. I stayed there for a week with my officemate and don't have much time to tour the area since it's raining and we were on duty.

My boyfriend then (husband now) and I visited the place before and we really enjoyed the cool breeze of Baguio. Which is why I am planning to visit the place again for the annual Panagbenga Festival this February together with my husband, son, siblings and my mom.

My mom and siblings has never been there and I hope they will enjoy the place just like we did years ago. As of now, I am searching online for the best and cheap Apartelle that we can stay while we are there.

They said that if you want to see the parade of flowers, then visit Baguio on February 25-26. But if you have lots of time to spare and lots of money to spend for a hotel, then you can extend it for a week or so to enjoy the festival more.

What I gave for presents this Christmas

It's in a white envelope and it's colored violet...... oh yes it's "money". This Christmas "money" is what I give out to my godchildren, nieces and nephews.

Why? Because although I have time to go shopping, I don't know what is the best gift to give away on each one of them. Last Christmas 2010, I gave away things that I have picked personally based on what I think they will like but since its normal for some kid to be envious (especially those with the same ages) they want what the other one has received and vice versa. I am hurt whenever I see them asking if they can exchange gifts with each other, so now, I decided to just give them money and let them choose what they want to have.

When we were young, we usually received money as a gift because our godmother and some relatives are at very far away places so they just see us during reunions and don't know how much we've grown since the last time they have seen us, so giving money is the safest thing they can give. Others said that giving money is not cool at all since the parent of the child is the one getting it and enjoying Christmas. Well, somehow it's true but if the parent did get the money that their children received I believe that they will use it for their children's sake too, so for me it's okay.

I remember my mom always get my gift money when I was a child and she used it to buy new shoes, clothes or school supplies because her earnings was just enough for our everyday needs. So, it's only during Christmas we get new things in the closet.

One more reason that I don't feel like giving away tangible gifts this year is that I am not feeling the season much because of the tragedy that typhoon Sendong did at Mindanao. I would like to help those people even how little or simple it is. I think it's better than giving nothing at all.

I saw that the most number of casualty were children so as a mom, I am deeply hurt to see it. We didn't even buy a lot of food for our Noche Buena since I know some don't have any to eat at all.

Next year I hope to have more sidelines and opportunities so that I can save some for my family and give more to others.

I haven't been online for a couple of days because I had to rest and I was not feeling well. As much as I wanted to make a post here, my head is in so much pain and I could not even stand up. But, my pain is just small compared to the sufferings that my brothers and sisters in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan have experienced when Typhoon Sendong washed away their properties and even killed some of their families.

When we lost our house from a fire last year, my mother, together with my siblings have experienced sleeping in an open and noisy space at an evacuation center. We also experienced falling in a long line just to wait for the relief goods, so I know what our brothers and sisters are facing there right now.

Fortunately, my family is still complete and no one die on that fire accident but at Cagayan de Oro, there are already 700 casualties and I can't imagine how hard it is to lose some one you love.

This Christmas season, we are still lucky, so even though we don't have much, my family didn't hesitate to share our blessings to them. I know you also want to do the same so here are some ways for you to help our brothers and sisters at Mindanao.

Gift Guide: Toys for Boys and Girls

I have not done my Christmas shopping yet, visiting toy stores gives me a terrible headache since I don't know what to give to my goddaughters and godsons.

There are lots of things I consider in buying presents:

1. It must have a good quality and free from harmful chemicals like lead.
2. The toys must help a kid improve his/her skills (fine motor skills, hand and eye coordination and pretend play).
2. It should be durable, so that it will last longer than a month
3. It must be less expensive. I have no work, so the price must be pocket friendly
4. It must be something that even I would like to play.

With that in mind, I searched for toys that will pass on my criteria.

Playing with it may be the first step on what they will become in the future (Engineer, Architect, Interior Designer etc). You can buy this for only P800.00

Kid Kraft Chelsea Dollhouse- This is a lot more expensive than the wooden dollhouse featured above. It cost around P9,500 . So, better think twice or thrice before you buy it.

Leap Frog LeapPad Explorer Tablet - My son loves to play with his iPod touch but this toy from Leap Frog that has been awarded as the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Best Toy Award Platinum Seal 2011, I think will help him learn more. It comes with a built-in camera and video recorder, educational apps, microphone, interactive e-books, art, photo studios and a lot more. It may be expensive for a price of P7,999.75 but I think it is worth it.

Pictureka's Kubes- Boys bore easily compared to girls their age. With this toy, they will be occupied for an hour or more, and it can even promote a lot of interaction. It should be played by 2 or more persons and the rule is simple: find the picture first and find it fast. P899.75 from Toy Stores

Nido Lite- new product from Nestle

I seldom watch local television so I am not aware of what is the latest items in the market nowadays, so it always surprises me whenever I see a new products in the supermarket racks. Last time I went to the grocery to shop, I saw that Nido milk now offers a new variety and it's called Nido Lite. The packaging tells that it is 80% less fat and 30% less calories.

It looks interesting because now I am limiting my son to eat foods with high sugar contents, such as candies, packed juices, and even sodas. Since sugar is high in calories, this new milk which says that they have 30% less calories will be beneficial to him.

For me to know more about this new Nido milk, I called the Nestle Customer Service since I can't find any information on the web right now. The customer representative told me that this milk is imported from Chile and also has dietary fibers that is suited for kids ages 4 years old and above especially those who are overweight. The sugar content of Nido Lite is only 0.26gm.

Well, when Ren finished his stock of Nido Fortified I will buy this new item and see if my son will like it.

The Wonka Imaginarium at Grand Atrium Shangrila Plaza!

Yesterday I was invited to visit the Wonka Imaginarium at the Grand Atrium in Shangrila Plaza Mandaluyong. I brought my son along with my niece to see and have fun at the place. Since my son only wanted to stay in one place inside the enchanted factory, I just asked my niece take some photos of the event, but since she was overwhelmed of the place, there were only a few good photos taken (well, she is only 9 years old)

The Imaginarium was brought to the Philippines (the first of it's kind) by Candy Corner, in partnership with Wonka. It is a four day exhibit starting from December 1 to 4 at Grand Atrium plaza.

On the exhibit, you'll be able to see a magical forest with giant bugs and talking trees and I am sure your kids will love it there. I have a new sideline job!

A friend of mine, contacted me two days ago if I wanted to have a sideline for $22 a day and since the holiday season is just around the corner and that I have lots of godson and goddaughter that will knock on my door on Christmas day, I need to have some moolah to give them gifts. So, I immediately said Yes!.

Anyway, when she told me about the sideline I got very excited. She told me that she has a new business and that is being a wedding coordinator. She asked me to be her assistant in taking care of the wedding reception and the Church, to be the program organizer, to check the needs of the couple, to suggest where to look for bridal hair and makeup and even to find a digital wedding photography services.

I always wanted to experience being an organizer for weddings, birthdays or any events since on my wedding day, getting an organizer is the thing that I did not take for consideration because I thought that I can handle all the things they can do which is why on the last minute there are things that came out of control and as much as I want to reverse it I can't.

My friend got married last October this year and her wedding day is very well organized and fabulous. That is why I think having a wedding coordinator is a must in every wedding day. You have a choice to hire someone who is well established on the field or a trusted relative that you know can handle the job well.

A peek at the PMC 2nd Grand Eyeball Event

Pinay Mommies Community (aka PMC) was started last January 2008 and was founded by Ms. Ruby Ricafrente. Through Facebook, the members of this community, where in yours truly is proudly a member, became more closer. PMC consists of moms who love to blog and are dedicated to help each other grow as bloggers.

Last April 2011, PMC had our first Grand Eyeball. At that time, there were only few attendees, but still, the mommies who were able to attend enjoyed it since it was the first time to see the faces behind the blogs.

Our 2nd Grand Eyeball was already scheduled almost a month after the first EB, and it was held last November 22, 2011 at Aling Tonya's Seafood Restaurant in Pasay City. It's been raining from morning till noon that day and yet the gloomy weather did not stopped the mommies to attend the said event.

PMC consists of moms not only here in the Philippines but also from around the world. The founder, mommy Ruby, came from Cagayan de Oro and took a flight at 7am just to be able to make it to the event, with her is another mommy from Iligan-Arlene. Some PMC members from Baguio also came (Kaye and Anne), Ria also came from an 11 hours trip via PNR train all the way from Bicol. We also have PMC moms from abroad who came (Willa, Che and Haze). Others are from nearby provinces like Cavite, Laguna and Bulacan.

What made this Grand Eyeball extra special is that now we have generous sponsors who have put smiles on each mommies faces.

What I think my son would want this Christmas

My only wish for Ren, as of now, is for him to fully speak his mind and that he will be more aware of his surroundings and the people around him. His teachers told me that he is very good academically but because of his behavior, it affects his rank in class.

Anyway, even though he can not start a conversation with us yet, by observing what he wants to watch in TV and read in books and the kind of toys that he is in to more, we can assume what he wants for Christmas. We are almost positively sure these are what he want to have (I hope his Godfathers and Godmothers are reading this)

I haven't seen this Thomas the Tank Vehicle Indoor Play Tent with Annie and Clarabel Cabooses at Toy Kingdom or Toys 'R Us (Philippines) but I saw this at Toys 'R Us website and it looks so cool. Since Ren is so active he needs a spacious tent, and this one can fit 3 kids inside. It's easy to assemble and can be folded when the kids are done playing for easy storage. Annie and Clarabel are also detachable.

or maybe a sofabed that can be transformed into a tent like this one:

Ren is already bored with his water doodle, so I want him to try this Glo Doodle. It has a transparent surface that uses bright coloured light to draw. I saw it at Amazon, but I think Toy Kingdom has this already.

Since Ren doesn't know how to pedal a bike yet, maybe this Twist Car is a nice alternative:

and of course, more Viking Toys!!! He already has 3 big viking cars (tractor, fire truck, car) 2 chubbies (small race car and vintage car) and 1 Viking toys playmat. This toys are really great because they are less expensive and so tough (read my full review HERE), so I want Ren to have his own viking city. He just loves to make cities out of his old blocks and pretend to race his cars through them.

most of the toys listed here are inexpensive (hint hint to anyone who wants to give him a present). The Viking toys for instance only cost P49.75 per piece for the chubbies sizes. The Twist Car is only around P700-P900 while the Glo Doodle is around P900 also. The tent I think is the only thing that cost a thousand.

I hope this toys will be available during the Thanksgiving Sale at SM Supermalls this November 24th. If only I knew someone abroad that will shop during Black Friday and ship it here then I would be very glad to ask them to buy these toys for me.

Soyami plus Active Fun made me a guilt free mom!

Looking at the conversation, I am guilty for two reasons:

First is not being able to accompany my son to play outdoors sometimes, and as a kid, that is his job and the right thing to do.

Second, for eating unhealthy chips that most likely will increase my chance of being obese and get the higher risk of being sick because it has no nutritional content.

I've been thinking about that for a while, and I am glad I found a solution and already working on it:

on my son:

bring him to Active Fun. It is a place where kids can enjoy playing around in a spacious and safe environment and that is free from any video games and TV's.

on Me:

On eating chips, I found out about Soyami Soya Chips while I was waiting for Ren when we went to Active Fun. It can be called "guiltless chips" because it is made with real soya, it's zero transfat, no MSG, and it's high in protein and calcium.

It is really a good snack which I can eat in front of my son without feeling guilty about being questioned about it.

I am also prone to urinary tract infection due to eating salty foods, but with Soyami and it's primary content- Soya, my kidney is protected from any damage.

Eating Soyami Soya Chips which is loaded with fiber and iron can help reduce my risk to have a colon cancer. Eating any foods with soya for that matter also can makes the skin smoother and fairer because of the Linoleic acid that can be found in Soya. Ren's first visit to the dentist!

As promised here is our experience on my son's first dental assessment and oral prophylaxis which luckily, we got for FREE from momcenter, and that is at Children's Dental Center at Makati.

We were scheduled at around 10 o'clock in the morning last Saturday, but we arrived there earlier on the scheduled time. It's a good thing there are lots of toys in their waiting area which made Ren quite occupied while I was busy filling up their customer information form.

The area is really kid friendly and I think the kids will not be afraid to go to the dentist when the center is like this, which was proven when I saw the newly arrived kids who looks like returning customers of the place.

The dentist - Dr. Kim was so friendly and they accommodate us even though it's not our scheduled time yet.

What made me afraid to bring Ren to the dentist before was because I have heard stories that their child was sedated because they can't sit still and keep on moving while at the dentist's chair which was the only solution that they could think of to be able to check the child's teeth and make the dentist finish his job. Since I knew how active and hyper Ren is, I am afraid that he will be sedated every time he will visit the dentist.

I was so glad that they have a very nice feature there like this TV on the ceiling that will distract the child while the doctor is busy checking their teeth. Although I told Ren how to behave while the dentist is checking his teeth and that he might open his mouth longer, I am still very thankful for the TV that distracted him.

After checking his teeth, the dentist then proceeded to clean Ren's teeth.

The dentist told me that Ren's teeth are in good condition, but she advised us that he should get a fluoride treatment to make his teeth stronger. She explained to me that the baby teeth is as important as permanent teeth because if the primary (baby) teeth has full of cavities the permanent teeth would very likely follow the same path. She also thought me how to clean Ren's teeth thoroughly and that is not only brushing his teeth 3 times a day but also doing the proper way of brushing teeth which is up, down and circular motion.

I should also floss Ren's teeth even for just once a day to prevent tooth decay. Since Ren is not an expert in gargling yet, the dentist told me to just wipe his teeth after brushing it to avoid him swallowing the toothpaste.

Overall, our first visit to the dentist ran smoothly. I am now more confident to bring Ren to the dentist, but I will make sure that we will only visit Children's Dental Center since I know that he is really comfortable there.

Toy Kingdom warehouse sale at Megatrade Hall Nov.4-6, 2011

After I visited the Super Sale Bazaar at the World Trade Center a while ago, I went straight to Megamall to check out the Toy Kingdom Warehouse Sale at Megatrade Hall 1 & 2.

I arrived around one o'clock in the afternoon and there were already lots of people in the area. Baskets and shopping carts are not "in" in this sale, the people were using empty huge cartoon boxes to put the toys they want to buy.

A piece of advice, since this sale will last until Sunday go there early or better yet have a companion that can fall in line ahead. Although I want to buy toys for Ren, the loooooooong line discouraged me to do it.

My son dresses as a cool pumpkin this Halloween!

My son's Halloween Party was coming up and we were thinking of what costume he will use for the party.
At first, we planned to dress him as the "cat in the hat" from Dr.Seuss since I found it very easy to do, but unfortunately, he looks so plain with it so I decided to look for another costume at the mall with just 1 day left before the Trick or Treat event on their school. Good thing, I found this simple yet good enough costume in Toy Kingdom and it was on sale at 60% off. I bought it for only P150.00 (original price is P350.00). What's nice with this costume is that it is very easy to wear and Ren is so comfortable with it.

Here is a picture of Ren in school. He wanted to wear his sunglasses so I let him wear it.

the next day, our compound also had a Halloween Party and Ren wore the same cool pumpkin costume. Since it's held at night, and he didn't want to wear his sunglasses so I just brushed his hair up and put some gel to hold it.

He may not look scary at all like the others, but so far this is his happiest Halloween ever.
