The Pierces are singer-songwriters sisters Allison and Catherine based in New York City. Former ballerinas turned songstresses, they released their self-titled debut in 2000 with Epic but was met with lukewarm reception. 0pening a week’s worth of shows for Albert Hammond Jr. in November 2006 greeted the girls with much more enthusiastic reception.

With a psychedelic indie and folk sound, the sisters are compared over the years to Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, Shawn Colvin, the Indigo Girls and Sheryl Crow. When asked how they would want others to describe their music, the girls responded, "like a fever induced, gypsy dream that you have after drinking too much red wine while listening to a cabaret singer in a southern speakeasy that is run by witches".

If only it was only me now.

This is certainly a rare post as Ive never featured shows and web projects here before. But I'm glad to make an exception as Im fairly late with this discovery.

I hopped on a KT Tunstall's video on the youtube recently and it lead me to her sessions with Daryl and John (Hall & Oates). Her sessions included of Daryl Hall, John Oates & co. and Tunstall's reworked versions of "Black Horse and A Cherry Tree", "If Only", "Out of Touch", "Kiss on My List" , Bonnie Raitt's "Lets Give Them Something To Talk About" and along others. After an hour of watching these mind-blowing versions around the channel, I proceeded to the root of my moments of insanity which was LIVE FROM DARYL'S HOUSE.

How have I not known about this before??!!

Basically LIVE FROM DARYL'S HOUSE is Daryl Hall and John Oates' (pop music duo in 1970s and 1980s) monthly performance webcast of playing music with his friends at his house and putting it up on the Internet. It is/was(?) an online sensation and I couldn't agree more after sauntering along the website. So far the show has had appearances by U.K. singer-songwriter KT Tunstall, Kevin Rudolf, Eric Hutchinson, and Gym Class Heroes' Travis McCoy, a longtime Hall fan, as well as a holiday special featuring songs from the Daryl Hall and John Oates release, Home for Christmas. The show recently also featured guests Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger of The Doors and the list goes on.

Daryl and John are already both in their 60's yet they definitely can still knock my socks off. I really do think that this is a very very very wonderful and unique way for artists/musicians for proving their virtuoso talents in their art. Because sometimes media frenzy can generally change a lot of how people perceive musicians and their material. P-Thugg and Dave 1 of Chromeo even rock out superbly "No Can Do", a Hall & Oates' original. Now what does that say about their musical limits? And this also refers to Daryl and John taking on mainstream pieces such as "Tenderoni" and "Let It Rock" beautifully. LFDH has been been praised by such varied publications as Rolling Stone, Daily Variety, Yahoo and the influential Lefsetz Letter.

This is another band Ive been meaning to bring up even before the mini-hiatus of this blog. The Sounds is a Swedish New Wave band with influences of punk and pop/Synth-pop. They somehow reminds me of The Clicks in retrospect with bands also such as Roxette and Ace of Base. +/-

The Sounds is about to release their new album "Crossing the Rubicon" this 2nd of June. They are set also to play series headlining No Doubt as part of the latter's Summer Tour 2009. Proceed to their page for additional details.

Someone told me that rock stars can sing anything. America for example does that exquisitely. Back when the rock revolution was just given birth in the pop culture, and new wave or heavy metal music was a mother's version of evil, America became popular with their light/folk take on rock music. America is best known for their songs, “A Horse With No Name” and “Sister Golden Hair". Not really a favorite of critics (remember The Beatles?), but they somehow crawled their way and still continually doing so with their exceptionally successful and commercially selling singles and albums. +/-

This is coming from somebody who was born two decades after so you really don't have to believe me. You know how it goes, listen and decide. Just a reminder, vinyls and cds would be more convenient if ever you'll like them.

The clock keeps ticking and my thoughts are streaming.
These five months have been excessively busy for me and it was not a no-brainer if I should continue tending this blog. In the first place, I never intended for this blog to be as updated as possible. Honestly, I think I put up this as a form of a creative release and a way of looking for people who appreciate music the way I do. So, for the next weeks, months and hopefully years, yours truly will post only random entries and feature bands or singers that necessarily wouldn't be up-to-date with the current music fiasco. One thing's for sure, craptastic sound would be generally filtered as entries would be minimize. I wouldnt necessary promote bands or labels and Metaphor might become my own personal journal. Now I know this isn't any good news but be sure to check out other amazing blogs if you like to stick around to a more all-around and active blog such as Popsense, Persona Sauna, Pretty Much Amazing, TSURURADIO, Pasta Primavera, WAWSTF and Pigeons and Planes.

The Rakes are a four piece indie rock band hailing from London. Releasing their debut album Capture/Release in 2005, The Rakes were the talk of the Reading and Leeds Festival after joining forces with Indie elites such as Bloc Party and Maxïmo Park in the NME Tent.

I am yet to listen to Merriweather Post Pavilion therefore I cannot wager others impressions on Animal Collective. The album had emerge before Christmas 2008 to the world, so unless you're an absolute skeptic and nonconformist listener or just sheds away from popular fads, its really impossible not to be influence by opinions and reviews stating what a "masterpiece" this album is. Hopefully, I can generate my own and catch up with the huss and buzz soon.

Below are remixes floating on the blogosphere and on my inbox. There is not really that many to choose from. Perhaps the DJ's are afraid to touch MPP? Anyhow, remixes like these have been known to jumpstart careers of enthusiast DJs. What are they waiting for?

Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie and Feist lend their voices for Vashti Bunyan's "Train Song" which is included to Dark Was The Night, a charity compilation produced by Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National with 32 exclusive tracks from some indie royalty.+/-

Some of these royalties are Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens, Beirut, The National, Arcade Fire, Iron and Wine, Blonde Redhead and ya-da-ya-da.

Each track of the compilation will be release for a day from January 15 through February 1 on the artists and Dark Was the Night’s Myspace.

If all songs are as close as being soothing, unpredictable or even decent as this cover, then this compilation is a sure treat for indie lovers. It doesn't hurt either to spare a few bucks for good intentions.

Kutiman draws influences from afro-beat, psychedelic rock, funk and reggae but in different way than most disciples of Fela and Mr.Brown have done before him. +/-

An impulsive writer and artist, Kutiman tries not to be intelligent with his pieces. Now you may wonder what this means. He plays according to what he feels in that moment, shedding all inhibitons and letting art blend itself together.

The result is a spirited and texturally rich mix of psychedelic soul and Afro-funk, with slippery grooves and snapping beats. His music is not for everybody but if youre in for a genre-swapping listening, Kutiman is a must for your playlist.
