Missing Child - as per my radio show report

A Durban family is desperately searching for their child who was allegedly kidnapped from Seaview Primary this morning.

Many people in KZN have been expressing concern about the missing girl. A message is currently circulating on email and on social messaging sites about the kidnapping.

The child's grandmother and guardian, Lesley Raynard, says the 10-year-old, who celebrates her birthday today, was taken from outside her school at about 10.30am this morning

Raynard says she was just about to leave home to pick up Mckayla Rutgers when she received a call from the school saying she had been taken by a family member.

An emotional Raynard has sent out a desperate plea for her return.

"I know you have got Mckayla. Please, if you are listening, return Mckayla. It is her birthday, she was so happy this morning. So don't spoil her day, send her home to us, please."

Meanwhile, Raynard says police have told her that the registration number provided by witnesses as the vehicle the kidnapper made off with is not a silver-grey Corsa bakkie, but a Toyota Hilux.

Bomb blasts and earthquakes in one day in Delhi, crime stats finally are made public, a new chief justice and World Literacy Day and Spring Day, the Rugby World Cup kicks off and God made me write this week’s, Weakly Report….

I was reading the TIMES OF INDIA on Wed night to make sense of what was going on in Dehli after I heard about a terrorist attack in the high court and then tremors and an earthquake…. It was only a few hours later and the above mentioned newspaper had already incorrectly measured the force of the earthquake by publishing the figure as 6.6 on the Richter scale… This speculation would have caused chaos amongst locals who were running out of their houses and NRI’s wanting to know more would have been left astoundingly misinformed. It was later confirmed as a 4.4 magnitude earthquake on a television channel. Why a publication of this caliber would choose to publish speculation is beyond me – but then again, watch that television channel whose calling letters start with the same “ND” as Durban car registration plates… I found that everything on that channel is presented as breaking news… By the looks of things, their “Breaking News” will soon cover people who “Break Wind” as well…. What a load of flatulent broadcasting…. !!

Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa has revealed the annual crime statistics at a briefing in Pretoria earlier this week. "It is perhaps worth mentioning that during the 1994/95 period our murder ratio as a country stood at 27 000," he said. What do numbers from nearly two decades have to do with today? You guess is as good as mine…. Murder is however down, 6.5%.... quick check if there have been any unreported murders…. Just like rapes… The number of reported rapes rose from 55 097 to 56 272.
Refer my previous blog about Womans Day and all that other crap we waste money on in August… Whatever we have been doing as a country is certainly not working because the abuse/ violence and rape have increased…
Cosatu has welcomed the drop in crime rates, particularly the 6.5% drop in the murder rate…. Great news indeed, its nearly the same %age increase they went on strike for….

I saw a flyer the other day which was most informative and described World Literacy Day and National Book Week to great extent…. Well done to the govt member for the initiative… Only thing is how does a citizen who cannot read benefit from this fancy, full color and rather expensive flyer…?

Sooooo – the convicted and guilty party stands in the dock during his trail and suddenly blurts out “God spoke to me...” or perhaps “God made me do it...” – and it seems like a miracle but he gets off his charge with no sentence what so ever.... Why?????
I am glad you asked – when you are the president of the country, you can take people out of jail when and as you wish, they can live a life of luxury at the expense of the state by simply falsely claiming to be terminally ill... and then you can appoint any person you want – whether the rest of the sane citizens disagree – as prezzie you can appoint who you want, where you want and nobody can do anything...... me thinks this may have something to do with a forthcoming national election..... Ssssshhhhhhhh!!!!
Somebody as religious as Mogoeng is fighting so hard to justify himself for a Chief Justice position. He is fighting to be in a position where he would be constantly judging others wrong or right.First they get rid of the scorpions. They shut down the arms deal investigations. they try and force a government newspaper onto us because they don't like what the media says about them, they try and push through this secrecy bill, then a few months ago the prezzie says he doesn't like the fact that the judiciary sits above the government and has power to overrule his decisions, just because parts of them may be illegal. Suddenly 2 months later we have the prezzies completely under qualified and blatantly inappropriate choice for this position, and then following what would ultimately be a disastrous interview for 99.9% of people, the council approves his nomination.

To me being Chief Justice and being as religious as Mogoeng is basically conflict of interest.

Its almost 10 years since the twin towers fell, Amitabh Bachchan will appear in his first Hollywood film alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Baz Luhrmann's version of The Great Gatsby and Darren Scott should be fired, castrated, hung upside down, inside out and then necklaced (with perlemoen shells)... because he said similar things as Julius Malema....

Go figure – it is the Weakly Report and here’s hoping it makes your stomach a bit stronger as you kick back to watch the 2011 Rugby World Cup kick off....

This is just too good not to pass on to all. Here is something absolutely positive for a change. I have repeatedly seen the breakdown of the cost of raising a child, but this is the first time I have seen the rewards listed this way. It's nice.
The government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to 18 and came up with R1,681,470.00 for a middle income family. Talk about price shock! That doesn't even touch college tuition.

But R1,681,470.00 isn't so bad if you break it down. It translates into: R93414.93 a year, R7784.49 a month, R1796.34 a week. A mere R254.52 a day! Just over R10.50 an hour.

"WHEN HELL FREEZES OVER"

Okay, I know – that was not very nice of me to tell you on the radio show about the pic on the left... But hey, with the recent weather we have been experiencing, it would not be too much of a stretch of the imagination....!

It’s Thursday and it’s time for another WEAKLY REPORT!!!!

This week’s write up almost did not happen – I was going to go on strike but the stench of the refuse and filth which was left in the path of striking municipal workers here in Durban kept me indoors and appeased with my measly 5% increase! Pity not all organisations can operate like a certain one which I am very familiar with – you strike and we replace you.... in fact if you do not ask “How high?” we will fire you/ replace you and/ or shorten your working hours... That simple! Now what if that same principle was applied to all the unions – will they even exist?

The cold, the strikes and the usual clamour from the 9 corners and in the 11 languages in this past week seem to have softened what Arch Bishop Dez Tut had said – Tax the Whites! They benefitted from Apartheid. So I am thinking – what about the govt officials who have squandered billions of tax payers money since 1994? I can understand the senility of the call given the arch is now 80+ but is this now a man of God who should be speaking the word of God? Ahhh- yes we are all equal – We who have our hands in the coffers are more equal!!!
If it had come from a woodwork drop out – I would not have even mentioned it this week – but lest it be from a Man of God!!! Eish!!!

ANC Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe on Thursday said the judiciary “must not be like a gogga or a threat” hanging over Parliament.He was reacting to the criticism of President Jacob Zuma’s choice of Judge Mogoeng Mogoeng to take over as chief justice. Judge Mogoeng Mogoeng was in the news in the past for some sort of obstruction of justice incident! Well if it all fails for him as the presidents appointee – he can and most likely will be paid millions for the debacle and then, given a creative name like his, Mogoeng Mogoeng could try out for Bafana Bafana...

Global economic challenges have affected the South African economy, and unemployment is a challenge that needs special attention, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan said earlier today. The local economy had shed about 1 million jobs, worsening the country's existing employment crisis. As if!!! What was that I said about strike actions earlier… My comments to parliament this week - the masses must first develop a work ethic, something which is distinctly lacking in political appointees to govt and local govt. Without that, I fear the finance minister you are just blowing smoke up somebody’s fundamental!

I got this mail earlier this week – typical scenario as we try to raise children in a “County – The Beloved Cried For…”

Riots in the UK, SA’s most wanted criminal walks out of jail free, US owing $57000 per person and Peter is ready to “goi” it on Australia this Saturday – it’s time for the Weakly Report!

Women’s Day was celebrated with week with the usual pomp and splendour. Our prezzie JZ came out saying that we as a country can do more in uplifting the cause of this celebration. Hmmm how many more wives does he want? Is he secretly in competition with his neighbour King Mswati III (see last week’s blog)? One has to wonder...

The Queen’s tea party was recently cancelled because the bloke she buys her sugar free sugar from had his shop looted in recent riots which took place in the UK. Appalling – and so UNBRITISH like!!! Who would have guessed that the very country which invaded so many others in history is now being destroyed by the very own people from within!!! “I say ol chap – might that be our forlorn Karma?”

More than 24 hours after most wanted criminal Bongani Moyo escaped from custody, police appeared no closer to re-arresting him. Authorities say that he will probably lay low for a while and not make a dash for the border. Then a police spokesperson is quoted as saying “it will not be long before the Zimbabwean, who is linked to at least 35 bank robberies, picks up a gun again” – correct me if I am wrong but that tells me if they cannot find him they will wait until he commits another robbery/ murder and investigate from there? It sounds like Moyo is playing the SAP like a yo-yo :)

Clem Sunter put it admirably when he explained the debt crisis in the US – “There are nearly 32 million seconds in a year which translates into 32 billion seconds in 1 000 years and 32 trillion seconds in a billion years. Assuming no interest on the debt, to pay off the projected US debt at $1 a second or $32m a year – which would stretch the pocket of even Bill Gates – would take a period of 17 trillion seconds which is roughly 531 000 years”

Lets see now –

Ø Space program = $450 billion (it has recently been pulled)

Ø Waging war = $100 billion

Ø Financial Aid = $500 billion

Quick give Marty a call and ask him to do that BACK TO THE FUTURE thing again and make the zeros go away... Do it – go back 531 000 years or to the future, in the year: 533 011 (2011 + 531K)

And make sure tell them to say “Ask not what your country can do for you but how much you can loan to your country?”

Okay – now I’ve had it!!!! The latest is this - Those who earn above a certain income will be required by law, with no exceptions, to contribute towards the National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme once it starts up, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said earlier today.

NO EXCEPTIONS!!! Ha ha ha – what a joke!!! I would like to see all the tenderpreneurs pay towards that from their ill gotten gains. And what does this do for those who are earning top dollar? Well its simple – be a little more creative in declaring your income and voila!!! You are now under the “certain income group” threshold!

As for you and me – well us poor sods will have to pay for next month’s fuel increase, food price increases, school fees and toll fees which has been this week been approved by cabinet.... e-toll!

Can you say 2.5 Billion Rand? Well done- now do you know how many zero’s there are in R2.5 billion?

This is the amount of money which today at the close of trading the ZAR was 6.89 to the $ is going to be ‘loaned’ to our neighbours Swaziland. King Mswati III called up the President of the republic and asked him for some change... Our dancing singing prezzie obliged and got the finance minister to come out in defense saying that Swaziland must get their act together and the money will “create space” for political dialogues and SA has received pledges from Mswati for reforms.

One has to wonder if the money will be used to deter Mswati from instituting much-needed political reforms and the unbanning of political parties or rather spend it on his 12 wives to fund their lavish lifestyles.

PS: I know you thinking it... 12 wives = Miss Jan/ Miss Feb/ Miss Mar..... Miss Nov/ Miss Dec

Planning Minister Trevor Manuel on Thursday said that society should not tolerate the killing of police officers. He said every South African must take a stand. Aah now isn’t that quaint!

The ex finance minister seems to think that police officer’s lives are more important than the ordinary law abiding citizens of this country who are every day targets. Here’s a hint and yes I am TELLING TERVOR “Do what you do best Mr. Minister of Planning– go back plan how it can be done and bring back the death penalty” Change the constitution if you have to – everything else is changing to fast track this country’s demise!

The bookies tell me that there has not been a single bet placed in favor of Pirates winning the African Champions League. Well now Benni... all that talk may land you a sponsored car from McCarthy Toyota but we have faith – let’s hope to see you put your golden boot to use – scoring as you say and not putting it in your mouth at the end of the season...

Its Women’s Month – yipity-do- dah!!

Another month of celebrations in which (some marketing/ promotions) companies make a killing on the 9^th and voting for Woman of the Year/ Powerful community leader/ and alike competitions are held... It’s been going on for years! It perhaps has inspired some to aspire to greater heights in their career/ personal lives and so on... But has it really had an impact and has the desired effect begun to be realised?

I would have compared rape stats in a year- on – year basis but our amazing General Bheki Cele see’s it fit to hold on to crime stats and only when they have finished “adjusting” it do we get to see it...

So again – has celebrating Womans Month/ Day reduced the crimes against woman and young girls? If there are no stats – may I suggest you take up a newspaper for each day in the week for one week...

Mon – Teen raped in hostel

Tues – Women dumps baby girl in bin outside church

Wed – Songstress found dead in hotel room

And the list goes on....

For all the righteous intentions it is celebrated I say, “Happy Womens Day” to all the fantastic women... and to those so called MEN who gang up and abuse Woman! You’re nothing more than a contemptible coward.

NB: R2.5 Billion is 2,500,000,000 – there are 8 zero’s in there....

Weakly Round Up - 28 July 2011

It may seem as if the cold weather has passed (for the time being)… The last few days have been terrible cold here in most parts of South Africa – thanks largely to the immense snow fall. It resulted in roads being blocked, people getting stuck in cars, transporters missing deadlines and live stock…. Hmmmm well not all of them came out of the cold spree as ‘live stock’! And then we hear that one, Mr. Malema has commented on the snow as he was travelling on the N3, “This is a bloody WHITE conspiracy”

Welcome to another weakly round up on the blog….

Yipee – the strike is over. The petroleum sector employees are set to return to work with their 8% increase and just in time as well – next week Wednesday you and I will be paying yet again- a bit more for fuel. One has to wonder about the timing of this increase and the end of that strike…. Billions lost in the strike action and even more recovered in the fuel increases…. And we are told that the increase is due to the international price of crude oil….

Amy Winehouse may have died because she stopped drinking alcohol. At present the 'Rehab' singer's cause of death is unknown but it is possible her decision to try and quit booze completely after years of heavy drinking could have caused her body a shock or seizure which killed her at her home in Camden, north London. This further reiterates my comments about beer – “24 beers in a case… 24 hours in a day”
It was only a week and a half ago that just over 80 innocent lives were lost in Norway. It somehow seems so long ago that it no longer features on the mainstream news…. however Norwegian press reported that the first words to come out of self-confessed Norwegian massacre gunman Anders Behring Breivik's mouth upon his arrest were: "I've finished now" – I think he was finished the moment he was conceived! His actions have made him an equal to the people/ religion he claims to despise…

Singh is proving to be King in the Irish Open – and that is Jeev Milkha Singh and not that other Fijian Fella. Thierry Henry won't be troubled by split loyalties when he faces Arsenal with the New York Red Bulls this weekend. And why would he? He’s the only footballer who uses his feet and HANDS to score goals…
Defending champions New Zealand have not lost a Tri-Nations match since 2009 and look set to extend their winning streak in the competition to eight Tests against a weakened South Africa side this weekend. What an insult to the replacement players who are being regarded as WEAKENED…. How do they feel? It is supposed to be their shining moment as they play for their country…. Or perhaps the media is setting us up to take a loss against New Zealand this weekend a lot more lightly…..?

It does seem like we can go on….. But any who…. In last weeks round up I asked for suggestions to the changes I HAVE to implement on the radio show and thank you thank you thank you – for NOT mailing me…. It works pretty much like voting, you have your say in what you want and unlike the IEC- I would look at every comment and try to be as obliging as possible…. So what now???? No suggestions = Mgmt Rules – I am off to go ask “How high????” ………… heard a voice from above saying “Jump”

Hello and welcome to another WEAKLY Roundup.... yes, I know it has been a while... What every union member thinking that they stand a winning chance on DANCE YOUR BUTT OFF (tv show.... and with a name like that???? I dunno!!!)- all these strikes, the incredible antics of our political players and Mandela Day.... there has been nothing to do but sit back and enjoy the stand up/ sit in/ down tools life in SA.....

Whether you vote for it or not - it will happen.... Malema Day will be upon us albeit one day ("One day is One Day")- and whether it will cost 16 million or more.... we will pay for it!!!! That is because you are too proud - allow me to elaborate:
* You will not take up arms
* You will not Kill
* You will not call for Nationalisation of the tea room which used to exist around the corner
* You will speak to your elders with disrespect
* You will not sing that song which calls for shooting of famers

Aaaaah yes - there he is sitting in his mansion, all 16 million rands worth sipping blue lable at 10am watching the celebration of MALEMA DAY at Greenpoint Stadium with a certain Helen'a doing her version of the gum boot dance which will shock even Black Umfolozi (dance group), all the while his gardener Juliaas is busy munching down on last nights pork chop with a loaf of bread.... and the other 16 million poor sods who voted for him are shivering, cold and hungry in their 1.6 meter shack!!!
The irony - well the irony is not shocking as Eishkom cut the power.... again!!!

Forget about going in to your favorite burger franchise - they DO NOT serve MINI MAC's... or apples for that matter.... Newer versions of apple's Macbook Air and Mac Mini were launched on Wednesday this week. Looking at the launch prices- I'd say that this was definitely no Happy Meal :)

As the Currie Cup heads into its second round, the pressure is firmly on traditional powerhouses, Western Province and the Blue Bulls. The Sharks however are still celebrating their weekends victory against the Bulls with leftover sardines which they bought from Batchu on the side of the N2. Batchu was on his way fishing when he stopped by the side of the road to tie down his fishing rob on his roof when a couple of sharks pulled in said, "ekse laarnie, make a price for the sardines and we'll take them all" - to which Batchu obviously did and sold off his bait....
The Sharks take on the Puma's this weekend in Nelspruit in the second leg of the Currie Cup.

Little Nevaan Nigam's turning out to be a regular chip off the old block. At three, Bollywood rocker Sonu Nigam's son has already cut his first song. And, that too with the Voice of India - Lata Mangeshkar herself!

The story goes that Lataji approached Sonu and asked him if Nevaan would conclude a song on her new album by performing a sargam. Those into singing and understanding Hindustani classical music will know, is far more difficult than just singing or reciting words.

Sonu told reporters, "I believe that Nevaan is truly blessed. To be asked by Lataji to sing with her at this young age, is in itself a great honour. Her compliment to Nevaan even tops all the ones that I've got through my entire career."Nevaan isn't formally being trained as a singer yet. "But he's an intelligent child and grasped every sur very quickly. He has a good music sense," said the proud father. "When we taught him the sargam, the incentive we gave him was the opportunity to sing on the mike. Nevaan was eager enough!"

The album was featured this evening on my show - its called Sarhadein - Music Beyond Boundaries

Poonam was admitted on Monday night after she experienced severe pain in her kidney. Her publicist also informed that she will be discharged by Tuesday night. In the letter she has requested the BCCI to allow her to strip for the men in blue. However, according to her lawyer Prashant Uchil, the BCCI has not reverted to her letter till date...

Finally got the pix of the Cape Town Diwali Festival - An incredible experience..... Felt as if I was playing the CAMEL PYRAMID OF LIGHT from back in the day!!!

Just to fill you in..... the organisers had arranged for me to be chauffeured in a Bentley from the airport and my accommodation was at a new 7 Star hotel in the mother city.... "*sigh* the hard-knock life of a DJ"

Medical Aid Madness :(

The cost of medical cover in this country is truly outrageous. Its a lot worse when you do not have the benefit of an employer making a contribution to your premium.

Just when you think you are covered - you discover that your cover is limited and that certain benefits and/ or treatments are not covered... or worse still you have used up your 'savings' for something or the other... and when you suddenly really need it - all that cover gets you more ill just because of the exorbitant cost from the medical aid!!!

If you do not have medical cover - and go without it for some time (years) - you run the risk of a "late joiner penalty" if you are over 35 years old and with some medical insurance providers your choice of cover is determined by how much you earn... WTF!!! Shove your cover exactly in that part of your anatomy which you have covered... I have been on a med aid scheme for some time now, however I am switching companies and until you Discover how sick you actually are to practice business like this - you will not be getting any of my hard earned cash!!!!

There... I feel better already!!!

We are at that time of the week when we need to reflect and try to make heads/ tails and limbs of whats been going on!!!!

I could swear that the station/ studio I broadcast from has somehow transported itself to some malaria infested swamp which is swarming with mosquitoes - ready to take over the broadcasting system... Okay so maybe it's me - if you and I are sitting out in the garden on a summer evening (anywhere in Durban) the mozzies will almost always bite me - just my luck/ chemical imbalance - but I mean this is in an air-conditioned broadcasting studio and these blood sucking Stronza (Italian swear word) are actually breeding here... Yes- I did bring it to the attention of the existing ministry... I suspect that their heads are so far... that they would not know it even if a mozzie bit them on their @$$

Sounds pretty much like a itching and moaning - and yes I did mean to say 'itching' cause of the mosquitoes - session to get the festive season kick started.... Would you expect anything else?

Facebook is all about Shrien Diwani and there are some sods (some of who should be rather neutral on the matter as they bring us the news) make claims that he did it... Then there are the mails doing the rounds about how cheap it is to murder an Indian lady in SA? What rubbish!!! Whether that may be or not- its up to the courts to decide and hopefully the truth shall prevail... Its one of the most talked about stories at the moment... A word of caution thought - Having Faith in the Law does not also mean hainvg faith in Justice....

Oprah Winfrey says she is no lesbian and Gayle King "is the mother I never had. She is the sister everybody would want. She is the friend that everybody deserves. I don't know a better person,” - Oh Oprah - stop breaking the hearts of millions of lesbians the world over and continue having it your OWN way... (OWN is going to be her new cable TV Network)

The festive season is upon us and the market/ media reports indicate that South Africa made nearly 4 billion rand during the Soccer World Cup... Consumer spending is reportedly up... Just in time for you to blow your bonus and 13Th cheque...

A hundred and fifty years ago, our ancestors came by ship to work as indentured labourers on the land ruled by the British. Today, that very land has come to be their very own. What we witness today, is the coming together of South African Indians to celebrate as well as to digest the fact that we have our very own “India” in the heart of Africa. Yes, India exists in South Africa. Why would anyone say that? Well, firstly South Africa has the largest Indian population outside of India and that’s just not hearsay; it’s statistically proven.

Traditions and customs have been passed down from our ancestors through a long line of generations for the past hundred and fifty years. We can only rejoice at our cultural heritage being preserved in such a special way. Our forefathers had toiled hard for future generations to know what it is to pray and to attend the temple or mosque prayers. We know what temples and prayer places look like only because they have made it such; that we do not forget the rich traditions and culture that we have. We can only be in awe of how obedient our children are; what excitement festivals like `Eid and Diwali bring the kind of cultural outfits worn over the years because of the legacy of our forefathers. The very language and traditions that bind us into such cultural associations and affiliations; we should embrace and be proud of. The generation of today is thus charged with the onerous duty of continuing the work that our ancestors and leaders have started. We need to pay tribute to our forefathers for their immense sacrifice and effort in preserving the Indian culture and traditions embedded in the soil of South Africa.

We should come together and celebrate the fact that we have a heritage; that we have culture and that we have roots that still connect us to India to this very day. There are always times to celebrate different events in our lives; but how delightful indeed to be alive in 2010 - the year which celebrates 150 years since the arrival of Indians in South Africa. So let us come together; let us be proud of what we have and who we are. For in a land of diverse cultures, there is one that has come from a land that considers heaven to be at the feet of every mother, and wisdom to be the trait of every father.

Indians in South Africa, this is your time to shine. Rejoice not only in a momentous hundred and fifty years on this beautiful land, but also in the sheer ‘sweat and blood’ that was the result of the hard work of our forefathers in honoring and preserving Indian culture. That sheer ‘sweat and blood’ is what has resulted in you being not only Indian, but South African as well. The celebrations have begun and in what way is the average Indian celebrating their South African Indian heritage? A start would be by coming together, celebrating, and most importantly, appreciating the sacrifices made by our forefathers, so that we may enjoy a more prosperous life. Here’s to cherishing a hundred and fifty years of dedication to Indian culture and origin.
