Whatsapp Will Stop Working On Blackberry And Nokia Operating System By 2016

2016-02-28T17:37:00.000+01:00

Earlier this week Whatsapp celebrated its 7th years anniversary with its 1 Billion Active users, instead to break a bad news on such a good day, the team decided to wait till on Friday when they announced that: the app will soon be discontinued on BlackBerry and Nokia devices running those company’s operating systems.

Yes! that include the Blackberry 10 device, Though the new Android-powered Blackberry Priv slider phone might probaly survive this heat because it was built with Android OS.

According to WhatApp Announcement

As we look ahead to our next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms the vast majority of people use. So, by the end of 2016, we will be ending support for WhatsApp Messenger on the following mobile platforms:

1. BlackBerry, including BlackBerry 10
2. Nokia S40
3. Nokia Symbian S60
4. Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
5. Windows Phone 7.1

whatsapp for nokia and blackberry
While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future

The Nokia S40 discontinuation will deeply affect developing countries like Nigeria because most people still uses old Nokia phone. The like of Nokia asha 200 and 203, Nokia 6100, 6200, Nokia c2 and c3 just to mention a few. I know most of us still love our old nokia phones. WhatsApp suggests “upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone” if you want to keep on using the service — if not, you’ll need to find another messaging service by the end of the year before the service got discontinued.

So do you think this is necessary?

Drop your comments.

Naira Devaluation: VP Osinbajo Clashes With Ex CBN Governor Sanusi In Lagos

2016-02-28T17:25:00.001+01:00

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Saturday reaffirmed the position of the Federal Government that the country’s currency would not be devalued in spite of pressures to act otherwise.

But the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Joseph Sanusi, replied that delaying the devaluation was akin to postponing the evil day.

The positions were taken at a town hall meeting that the Vice President held with his co-tenants in the Victoria Garden City (VGC) on the Lekki-Epe axis of Lagos.

At the widely attended and thought provoking event, Mr. Osinbajo insisted that devaluation was not on the table, adding “that is the position of government’’.

According to him, the CBN will operate in line with the speech delivered by President Muhammadu Buhari, after he was elected to come up with flexible exchange rate to be supported by strong monetary policies.

He said that the foreign exchange policy of government was to stop unnecessary consumption of imported goods and promote local manufacturing.

However, former CBN Governor, Mr. Sanusi, a VGC resident, advised the government to either devalue the currency or stop the confusion between the official and parallel market exchange rates.

He said allowing an official rate at N97 per dollar while the parallel market sold for over N300 was “distractive’’.

“Naira is already devalued and government not accepting it is postponing the evil day,’’ Mr. Sanusi said.

Mr. Osinbajo had also said government met a falling revenue profile in May 2015, which was down by about 70 per cent compared to the same period of the preceding year.

He aid that in spite of the high cost of about $22 to produce a barrel of crude oil now selling at about $33 dollars, no fewer than 38 per cent of the foreign reserve was spent on importing petroleum products.

He also said the previous administration was spending about N20 billion on food importations annually, which reduced the nation’s foreign reserve drastically from about $40 billion to about $25 billion.

As a result, he said, the present administration was bent on diversification of the economy from crude oil to agriculture and solid minerals production.

Mr. Osinbajo said the focus on agriculture was to make Nigeria self-sufficient in rice, poultry and palm oil production as well as develop the entire agriculture value chain to create wealth and jobs for the teeming youth.

The vice president further said the administration was targeting 2018 for complete reliance on refined petroleum products, adding that the petrochemical industry, railway infrastructure and provision of other infrastructure were top on the priority of the federal government.

He told the VGC community that the major areas of focus of the Mr. Buhari administration were security, governance, anti-corruption and economic rejuvenation.

According to him, Boko Haram insurgency had been degraded as a “military might’’ although pockets of suicide bombings still take place.

“This is a challenge we must tackle going forward but the other challenge is the over two million people displaced by insurgency who need resettlement,’’ he added.

He said the idea was to re-settle the people back to their farming occupation first, but that would be after the entire North East land had been de-mined.

He said government was mindful also of the agitation by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), pipeline vandalism in the South-South and the Fulani- farmers clash in some communities, all which pose security threats.

Mr. Osinbajo said in governance, corruption was a critical issue because “the whole system, both public and private, is replete with corruption which has become the rule rather than the exception.

He recalled the arms purchase scandal “where a huge amount of money was spent but unfortunately it went into private pockets’’.

He recounted that fake Armoured Personnel Carriers and fake bullet proof vests were purchased for soldiers thus endangering the lives of anti- terrorism combatants.

“Unless we seriously fight corruption through a systematic rebirth of our public system, the future of the country is in grave danger,’’ Mr. Osinbajo said.

He said the administration had a robust plan to uplift education standards through the recruitment of 500,000 additional graduate teachers to serve in the rural areas, development of materials for teacher education and focus on science, engineering, technology and mathematics education.

He said President Buhari had put together an asset recovery team, adding that looted assets and funds recovered would be returned to the federation account.

The vice president also announced that all idle mining licences issued by the past administrations were being mopped up, while the government was reviewing the contract signed between the CBN and Systemspec on remittances made into the Treasury Single Account.

The Chairman of the VGC Residents Association, Olusegun Ladega, requested Mr. Osinbajo to intervene in the flooding of the estate caused by the non-provision of ancillary drainage on the Lekki-Epe Expressway by the Lagos State Government.

Also, another resident, Tochi Okwor, raised concerns about the high rate of communicable diseases, such as TB and HIV and AIDS, which she said might reach unacceptable proportion if nothing was done.

She also advised the federal government to remove the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) from the Health Ministry and make it an independent organisation to enable the NCDC play its role effectively. (NAN)

Buhari Has Plans To Islamise Nigeria – Fayose

2016-02-28T11:02:00.004+01:00

Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose has accused President Buhari of planning to Islamize Nigeria.

According to Vanguard, Fayose made the allegation during the PDP Rivers state thanksgiving service for the state governor, Nyesom Wike, whose election was upheld by the Supreme court on January 27th.

Fayose reportedly told the gathering he had a secret to reveal about the present administration.

When asked to share the secret, Fayose said:-

“They have started subtle moves to make Nigeria an Islamic nation, but God will stop them. This was done in 1984, it failed, it would fail again.”he said
He added that he was not afraid of anyone and that his name is Peter whcih means Th Rock.

“I am not far away, I am in Ekiti. I am Ayo Fayose, Peter the rock, if you hit me you will be in trouble. If I hit you, you will be in trouble.”.
To substantiate his allegation about Buhari’s plan to Islamize Nigeria, Fayose said:-

“Why did five of them go to Saudi Arabia to wait for our man there (referring to President Buhari and state governors), if they don’t have agenda.
The agenda is coming small small, but we will resist it. Nigeria is a free nation where we proclaim the name of Jesus Christ freely, and we believe in Allah for those who are muslims. This nation will not be taken for an Islamic nation,” he declared

OAP Freeze Questions Jumoke’s Rise To Fame, Talks About The Unilag Graduate With 5.0 CGPA

2016-02-28T10:58:00.000+01:00

Cool FM OAP Freeze just shared this on his IG page and he’s asking why Mr. Ayodele Daniel Dada, the first Nigerian to finish university with a perfect CGPA of 5.0, is not getting the same rise to fame as former bread seller turned model, Olajumoke Orisaguna.

Read and tell us if you agree with Freeze.

‘POVERTY MENTALITY’

When are Nigerians going to celebrate real achievements?

On the left is Mr. Ayodele Daniel Dada the first Nigerian to finish university with a perfect CGPA of 5.0 and on the left is Mrs. Olajumoke Orisaguna a ‘former’ bread seller.

Before Ayodele, no one had ‘EVER’ finished with a perfect CGPA in UNILAG!!! Since it was established in 1962, he made history by becoming the first to achieve such a commendable feat!

Now, so many questions come to mind. How come my dear friend Kunbi of ‘April with Kunbi’ hasn’t styled him or recommended him for styling? How come CNN hasn’t done a story on him? How come his life isn’t documented on blogs daily? How come he isn’t a brand ambassador for any product?

The questions are ceaseless.

Ciara put up a post of an equally beautiful traffic hawker selling some type of fruit yesterday and she was described, in Ciara’s own words as ‘beautiful and talented’. If these two ‘hawker beauties’ were discovered less than 2 months apart, it means that beautiful girls that hawk commodities aren’t in short supply in Lagos.

While people who finish with with a 5.0 CGPA are almost non existent! It took 54 years to produce the first one!

While Olajumoke and this other lady are rough stones that could be polished to achieve a lustrous shine, Ayodele is a true jewel, a rare yellow diamond in its truest and purest form.

Let’s not let our ‘poverty mentality’, that makes things of lesser importance seem valuable, cloud our judgement. I have no objection to polishing stones to bring out their shine, but please let’s not do it at the expense of gems of inestimable value!

The outcome of our future depends largely on ‘what’ or ‘whom’ we invest in. If Japan, Switzerland or America invested their time and money in pretty bread sellers, we won’t have the brains behind their automotive, aeronautic, horological or financial achievements today.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t celebrate Olajumoke o! Before people call me a hater but like hell we must celebrate Ayodele first! Just my thought on a Saturday evening~FRZ

My Convoy Deserves A New Car – Saraki

2016-02-28T10:55:00.005+01:00

The office of the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has issued the statement below to respond to an exclusive story by PREMIUM TIMES, that Mr Saraki has taken delivery of new cars, worth over N300million.

Read full statement below.

“Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has said only his official vehicle, a MercedezBenz, was changed and that the spare car in the convoy is the old one he inherited and has been using since he assumed office June last year.

“Reacting to the claim by Premium Times that the Senate President has taken delivery of vehicles worth N330m, Yusuph Olaniyonu, the Special Adviser, stated that it was wrong for Premium Times to classify vehicles provided for security agencies like the police and State Security Service by the National Assembly management for their operations as vehicles bought for the Senate President.

“It is an obvious fact that the official and spare cars that the Senate President inherited and has been using are old and have been malfunctioning.

There are instances like the day Dr. Saraki visited Keffi for the marriage of the daughter of Senator Abdullahi Adamu and another day at the Presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport that the spare vehicle broke down. In both instances, the spare vehicle did not return home with the convoy.

The same vehicle had malfunctioned at the Presidential Villa and National Mosque on different occasions. It is for this reason that the Senate President approved that instead of providing two vehicles for him as he is entitled, only one should be bought to replace the official vehicle while the old official car should be converted to spare car.

“Also, if the National Assembly Management chose to provide operational vehicles for Security Agencies, should that be presented as if they are personal or official vehicles meant for the use of Dr. Saraki? These are vehicles that cannot be used for other purposes and by other people. The Senate President also have no control over the security vehicles.

“it is also surprising that despite the fact that Premium Times in the same story reported that the order for the vehicle was made in December, it chose to calculate the value of the vehicles based on current exchange rate of the Naira to the dollar.

This is obviously a mischief aimed at making the figure look huge and justify the screaming headline.

“The press should avoid deliberately inciting members of the public against public officials. The Senate President and his colleagues are conscious of the economic situation in the country and will continue to act responsibly and responsively.

“Just last week, Dr. Saraki was informed that the Ministry of FCT in its 2016 budget proposed a N6 billion estimate for the construction of the official residence of the Senate President.

He outrightly rejected the proposal and directed Senator Dino Melaye, Chairman, Senate Committee on FCT to bring down the cost to one billion Naira.

He said that it should be made known to the Ministry that if it cannot construct the building with N1 billion then they should leave out the project entirely till after his tenure. He said he will rather stay in his present abode.

Senator Melaye had already acted as instructed as indicated in the report his committee presented to the Appropriation Committee.

“It should therefore be noted that if Dr. Saraki can demonstrate frugality and responsible leadership in a matter that saved the country so much money, how can it then be presented as if purchase of cars is a big issue that he cares so much about? Those who know the antecedent of the Senate President know that there is no type of vehicle that can excite him at this stage in his life”, Olaniyonu stated.

Signed
Yusuph Olaniyonu
Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to the Senate President

Back To School - Governor Ambode Wears School Uniform To His Alma Mater, FGC Warri (Photos)

2016-02-28T10:39:00.004+01:00

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, yesterday attended the Golden Jubilee grand reunion of FGC, Warri, his alma mater. Check him out happily dressed in his school uniform with students.

At the event, Ambode said all the knowledge and discipline impacted in him during his secondary school days in the college contributed largely to who he is today, just as he urged his old school mates to come together and ensure the vision of the school was kept alive.

The governor said: “Indeed, my becoming a governor can be attributed to what I gained and learnt from this school.

We must come together, all of us to ensure that the vision of the establishment of the school must not die.

So it is a great honour to all of us to return here after decades and celebrate this 50th anniversary.

We are benefiting from the vision planted years ago.

I want to assure the principal that we are going to bring back the good old days of this school. I wish all the students well and pray that you all be better and more successful than all of us here today.

I like to say a big welcome to seniors and juniors. One great thing about this school is that no matter what you become in life your senior remains your senior.”

See The N330million Exotic Cars Saraki Just Bought (Photos)

2016-02-27T21:15:00.000+01:00

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has taken delivery of new exotic cars purchased by the National Assembly management for his official use, despite the widespread criticisms against such lavish spending at a time of national economic crisis.

PREMIUM TIMES had exclusively reported that the Nigerian legislative body proposed to splash about N4.7 billion on at least 400 vehicles for leaders and members of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Among the proposed vehicles were 10 top-of-the-range cars for Mr. Saraki and his official convoy.

Mr. Buhari said he had rejected a proposal for new vehicles to be purchased for him as part of 2016
budget expenditure.

“I turned down a N400 million bill for cars for the presidency, because the vehicles I am using are good enough for the next 10 years,” the president said during his first media chat.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also wrote members of the National Assembly asking them to jettison the plan to buy official vehicles.

But the National Assembly management ignored such concerns and, finalised procurement processes for the vehicles, and indeed took delivery of them for Mr. Saraki.

At least four of the 10 vehicles meant for Mr. Saraki have already been delivered by Lanre Shittu motors and the lawmaker has since put them to use. The four cars delivered yet, and confirmed by the paper, are three Toyota Prado SUVs and one Mercedes Benz S500.

PREMIUM TIMES also confirmed that the procurement processes for the purchase of 120 Toyota Land Cruisers for the remaining 119 Senators were also concluded last December.

An estimated N4.7billion would have been spent by the time the acquisition of cars for Mr. Saraki and his 108 colleagues are completed.
