The unprecedented attacks were claimed by an Islamist group as revenge for Niger's involvement in a French-led military offensive in neighbouring Mali and come just four months after Al-Qaeda linked militants seized a desert gas plant in neighbouring Algeria in a siege that left 38 hostages dead.
The Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO), one of the Islamist groups which seized control of northern Mali last year before being driven out by French-led troops, claimed the near simultaneous bombings at the Agadez army base and the French majority-owned uranium mine in Arlit.
"Thanks to Allah, we have carried out two operations against the enemies of Islam in Niger," MUJAO spokesman Abu Walid Sahraoui told AFP.
"We attacked France and Niger for its cooperation with France in the war against sharia (Islamic law)."

But this has nothing to do with Islam or religion and to attach the two together would be Islamophobic.

(.)Some 30 minutes after the first blast at the base, a suicide bomber blew up an explosives-laden four-by-four at the Somair uranium mine and processing facility as employees reported for work at the site, which is majority-owned by France's Areva and is located some 250 kilometres (150 miles) north of Agadez.

"A man in military uniform driving a four-by-four packed with explosives mixed in with the Somair workers and blew up his vehicle in front of the power station at the uranium treatment facility," an employee told AFP.

"Company managers told us the suicide bomber was killed in the explosion," he added, saying the blast had caused damage but had not stopped work at the site.

Labo said almost all of the some 50 wounded there were security agents.

The line between informant and murderer must have been quite blurry for the leaders at MI5 for them to want Adebolajo as one of their operatives. Imagine if he had accepted the job, and then committed the beheading anyway. The blood of Lee Rigby would have been on their hands, but instead they just have egg on their face.

Woolwich attack: MI5 'offered job to suspect'

Abu Nusaybah told BBC Newsnight his friend - one of two men arrested after Drummer Lee Rigby's murder in south-east London on Wednesday - had rejected the approach from the security service.

The BBC could not obtain any confirmation from Whitehall sources.

Abu Nusaybah was arrested at the BBC after giving the interview.

The Met Police said a 31-year-old man had been arrested at 21:30 BST on Friday in relation to suspected terrorism offences and search warrants were being executed at two homes in east London.

The arrest was not directly related to the murder of Drummer Rigby, it said.'Bugging me'

In his Newsnight interview, Abu Nusaybah said he thought "a change" had taken place in his friend after his detention by security forces on a trip to Kenya last year.

Abu Nusaybah said Mr Adebolajo suggested he had been physically and sexually abused during an interrogation in a prison cell in the African country.

After this, he became withdrawn "and less talkative - he wasn't his bubbly self", Abu Nusaybah added.

He said Mr Adebolajo also told him that, upon his return, he was "followed up by MI5" who were "knocking on his door".

He was "basically being harassed", Abu Nusaybah said.

He added: "His wording was, 'They are bugging me - they won't leave me alone.'

"But after him saying that he didn't know these individuals, what he said was they asked him if he would be interested in working for them."He mentioned initially they wanted to ask him if he knew certain individuals.

"He was explicit in that he refused to work for them....

Little information so far, but the claim is the two men were arrested for endangering the aircraft. We shall see what the investigation comes up with, but the fact that it is a Pakistani airplane makes me suspicious in a number of ways.

LONDON — British fighter jets escorted a Pakistan International Airlines passenger plane to Stansted Airport near London on Friday, where police went on board and arrested two men on suspicion of endangering an aircraft.
Passengers were leaving the plane and no one was hurt in the incident, a spokesman for the airport said.

Flight PK709 from Lahore in Pakistan had been due to land at Manchester in northern England with 297 passengers on board, but was diverted shortly before arrival.

Britain is on high alert after a soldier was hacked to death on a London street on Wednesday in what the government are treating as a terrorist incident.

A security source said early indications were that the plane was not the target of a terrorist attack.

A passenger who had just got off the plane told the BBC the pilot had informed passengers after landing that he had diverted to Stansted because of threats. The passenger, named by the BBC as Mr Munsif, said two men had been handcuffed on board and removed.

"We landed safely and then he announced that they had some kind of threat from someone and that's why he landed the plane," the passenger said, speaking by telephone.

"Essex Police have boarded a passenger plane diverted to Stansted Airport and two men have been arrested on suspicion of endangerment of an aircraft. They have been removed from the plane," the police said in a statement. The force is responsible for the area where Stansted is located.

"The two men arrested on suspicion of endangerment of an aircraft are aged 30 and 41. They are being taken to a police station for interview by detectives," the police added.

It is a sad commentary when a country cannot identify the criminals by their motives. Riots in Sweden: Cars Burn in Fourth Night of Youth Violence

Riots continued for the fourth straight night in Sweden Wednesday, as youth set fire to cars and threw stones at police in immigrant suburbs of Stockholm and the southern Swedish city of Malmo.

Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt has appealed for calm in the wake of the violence, which appears to have been instigated by the police shooting of a machete-wielding 69-year-old man in the Stockholm suburb of Husby this month. Police said the shooting was an act of self-defense, but it has triggered accusations of police brutality.
Riots began in Husby, which has a large immigrant population, on Sunday night and have spread to other locations, including the southern suburb of Fittja.

A police station in another southern suburb was set on fire, but no one was injured in the attack and the fire was quickly extinguished, according to media reports. Dozens of cars have been set ablaze during the riots, testing the resources of the local fire departments, according to the police.

At least one police officer was injured in the riots Wednesday night, and two schools, a restaurant and a cultural center have been damaged this week.

Growing Disparities

The violence has been attributed to the growing disparities between rich and poor in the country, where immigrant communities have been affected the most by cuts in state benefits over the past two decades. Official unemployment among the foreign-born is at 16 percent.
"The reason is very simple," Rouzbeh Djalaie, editor of a local newspaper in Husby told the news agency Reuters. "Unemployment, the housing situation, disrespect from police. It just takes something to start a riot, and that was the shooting."
Djalaie told Reuters that local youths are often the subject of unnecessary identity checks from police, who reportedly called them "apes" during the recent riots. The country ranks fourth among 44 industrialized nations in the absolute number of asylum seekers.

Swedish Justice Minister Beatrice Ask called attacks on police officers or rescue personnel "unacceptable," but said she understood why many people in these suburbs are angry. "Social exclusion is a very serious cause of many problems, and we understand that," she said.

Britain braces for possible copycat attacks

LONDON — Britain is bracing for clashes with right-wing extremists and possible copycat terror attacks after the brutal slaying of a young soldier.

London's Metropolitan Police said more than 1,000 officers will be sent to potential trouble spots with armed response units. Only a fraction of Britain's police officers are armed.

Wednesday's bloody attack was captured on video by passersby and made for gruesome viewing — one man is seen with his hands stained red and holding two butcher's knives as he angrily complained about the British government and troops in foreign lands. A lifeless body is seen on the street behind him.
Terror analysts say the attackers wanted the publicity to inspire copycat attacks, and that they are already seeing an increase in chatter on extremist sites calling for such attacks.

"We can see the tempo being raised," said Maajid Nawaz, a former jihadist who is now with the London-based anti-extremist Quilliam Foundation.

"One of the reasons why these guys acted in this theatrical way was because of the propaganda effect so others would be inspired to do the same thing. The nature of these attacks are that they are so easy to do, and we have definitely seen an increase in chatter calling for such things since the attack."

A British government official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the ongoing investigation, confirmed the increase in chatter since Wednesday's attack but said no specific or credible plots had been detected at this point.

In an interview in Tripoli, northern Lebanon, where he has lived since being banished from Britain in 2005, Omar Bakri, founder of banned British Islamist group Al Muhajiroun, said he knew suspectMichael Adebolajo from his lectures a decade ago.

"When I saw the footage I recognized the face immediately," Bakri told Reuters. "I used to know him. A quiet man, very shy, asking lots of questions about Islam."

"What surprised me (is) the quiet man, the man who is very shy, decided to carry out an attack against a British soldier in the middle of the day in the middle of a street in the UK. In east London. It's incredible.

"When I saw that, honestly I was very surprised - standing firm, courageous, brave. Not running away. Rather, he said why he carried (it out) and he wanted the whole world to hear it."

The attack has been vociferously condemned by Muslim organizations across Britain....

Yet not one Muslim organization in Britain has any program in place to address the problem of "radicalization" or teach against the tenets of Islam which call for the conversion, subjugation or death of non-Muslims. I wonder why that is?

Here is the pertinent information that we will not hear from our dear leaders in the US. This should be the wake-up call (as if 7-7 wasn't) that jihad is here, it is real and it is deadly, but instead we get people like Cameron and Johnson, PM and mayor respectively telling us that Islam was not to blame. Despite the jihadist quoting the Qur'an as justification, both men refuse to see the writing on the wall...in the blood of innocents.

Read the article on Cameron in the Independent here, and the article on Johnson in the Metro here. What is so striking is a total lack of perspective and a refusal to believe what is said. The jihadist says he is killing the infidel because the Qur'an says so. What more do supposedly thinking people need? I have friends with whom I regularly discuss Islam and the Middle East, and for the most part they too will not believe that this kind of carnage has anything to do with Islam, except to say that it is one person who just misunderstands, or misinterprets their religion and we shouldn't be concerned. After all, they say Christians are just as blood-thirsty and besides, just look at the crusades. Makes me want to slap my forehead and sigh loudly.

Jihadist Anjem Choudary has been one of the loudest Islamic voices in England, his group Islam4UK was banned by the government a few years ago, and he has consistently called for the implementation of the sharia law, the killing of soldiers and the death to non-Muslims. Now we have a picture of Choudary at a rally a few years ago, and gues who is standing right behind him? None other that Michael Adebolajo, the man now identified as the jihadist. The Mail Online has an incredible collection of videos and photos, much more in depth coverage than anything we have here. It is also ironic, in a sad kind of way, that Adebolajo had been on MI5 terrorist list for a few years, and was being watched...sort of. How is it that intelligence services seem incapable of actually identifying a jihadist, when the jihadist themselves tell us who they are and what they plan to do? If you are not allowed to speak the enemies name that dares not be spoken, there is zero chance you will be able to figure out how to defeat them, or even identify them for arrest.

Now there are reports of two more being arrested, which brings to mind the question of whether this will be considered a "lone wolf" attack. The number of people involved is irrelevant in that whether one or ten, their motive is to be determined if there is to be an understanding of how this happened. Maybe authorities will be able to get some useful information out of the group, Adebolajo included.

We are in for some interesting times, as the Chinese proverb goes, and I am afraid those in power will continue to lead us down the rabbit hole, ever vigilant for anything that would show their folly for what it really is; a death sentence for the non-Muslim world.

Egypt's 'rebels' gather millions of signatures to protest Morsi

CAIRO – Once again, a handful of activists has managed to galvanize and inspire Egypt’s grumbling masses in a way no opposition political parties have been able to.

Their concept is simple. They are inviting the Egyptian electorate to sign a petition expressing “no confidence” in President Mohamed Morsi, a move they hope will trigger early presidential elections.

The response has been eye-opening. So far, 6,000 volunteers for the grassroots campaign dubbed “Tamarod” or “Rebel” have collected over 2 million signatures, according to the group’s spokesman Mahmoud Badr. Egypt’s electorate numbers about 50 million, with half of those voting in the last presidential election.
The movement has grown quickly, with opposition parties announcing support, widespread press coverage and black and white leaflets plastered across nearly every Cairo neighborhood. The “Rebel” Facebook page has attracted 150,000 “likes” in one month.

At a busy intersection in Mohandiseen, an upper-middle class Cairo neighborhood, at least 20 people stopped last Thursday to sign the leaflets and jot down national ID numbers to verify their identity.
“Yesterday was even more crowded,” said Basma Sherif, as she handed out forms.

“There were accidents because people were leaving their cars in traffic to come and sign,” said Sherif, a 24-year-old insurance company employee.

People from all walks of life and throughout Egypt are signing the petition – from upper class educated elites to truck drivers and housekeepers – even people who voted for Morsi in the last election are now taking part in the campaign.

"People come from the cars to sign – poor, rich, middle class, everybody has one opinion,” said Sherif.

Amina Tyler, Tunisia’s ‘topless jihad’ activist, caught and under arrest

After months of reportedly going into hiding, the outspoken Tunisian feminist who sparked a trend of “topless jihad” has been found and arrested by Tunisian authorities earlier this week and may be charged for conducting “provocative acts.”

Amina Tyler, 19, was found in the midst of police scuffles with hardline Salafist group Ansar al-Shariah in the central Tunisian city of Kairouan on Sunday.

Tyler previously described herself as a member of the Ukrainian feminist group Femen, which uses nudity in protests.

Witnesses said she allegedly scrawled “Femen” on the wall near the main mosque and may have intended to hang a banner on the building before an angry crowd gathered and started shouting at her to leave, according to The Associated Press.

Video posted by the Tunisian online Nawaat news site shows Tyler, with dyed blonde hair, clutching a banner and being hustled away by police and put into a van as residents chased her.

A local resident shouts at the camera: “She is dishonoring us. We will protect our town, but a dirty girl like her shouldn’t come among us.”

Accused Fort Hood Shooter Paid $278,000 While Awaiting Trial

The Department of Defense confirms to NBC 5 Investigates that accused Fort Hood shooter Major Nidal Hasan has now been paid more than $278,000 since the Nov. 5, 2009 shooting that left 13 dead and 32 injured. The Army said under the Military Code of Justice, Hasan’s salary cannot be suspended unless he is proven guilty.

If Hasan had been a civilian defense department employee, NBC 5 Investigates has learned, the Army could have suspended his pay after just seven days.

Personnel rules for most civilian government workers allow for "indefinite suspensions" in cases "when the agency has reasonable cause to believe that the employee has committed a crime for which a sentence of imprisonment may be imposed."

Meanwhile, more than three years later soldiers wounded in the mass shooting are fighting to receive the same pay and medical benefits given to those wounded in combat.

Retired Army Spc. Logan Burnett, a reservist who, in 2009, was soon to be deployed to Iraq, was shot three times when a gunman opened fire inside the Army Deployment Center.

“I honestly thought I was going to die in that building,” said Burnett. “Just blood everywhere and then the thought of -- that's my blood everywhere.”

Burnett nearly died. He's had more than a dozen surgeries since the shooting, and says post-traumatic stress still keeps him up at night.

Burnett is now fighting a new battle; only this one is against the U.S. Army.

The Army has not classified the wounds of the Ft. Hood victims as “combat related” and declines to label the shooting a “terrorist attack”,

The “combat related” designation is an important one, for without it Burnett and other shooting victims are not given combat-related pay, they are not eligible for Purple Heart retirement or medical benefits given to other soldiers wounded either at war or during the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon.

As a result, Burnett, his wife Torey, and the families of other Fort Hood victims miss out on thousands of dollars of potential benefits and pay every year.

To Burnett the shooting felt like combat.

“You take three rounds and lose five good friends and watch seven other people get killed in front of you. Do you have another term that we can classify that as?” asked Burnett.

The Army has categorized the shooting as a case of “workplace violence.”

Can't call it what it is, that would insult Muslims and tarnish the good name of Islam. Heh.

A MAN accused of rioting during last year's violent Muslim protests has been berated for his "disrespect" after refusing to stand before a magistrate at his court hearing.

Mohammed Issai Issaka, who was charged with riot, assaulting police and resisting arrest over the September incident, this morning said his religious beliefs stopped him for rising for the court - the standard practice whenever a judge or magistrate enters or leaves.

Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge repeatedly demanded Issaka stand for her, telling him she didn’t accept his refusal.

"You can tell me where it is in his religion that it says he cannot stand," she said to Issaka's lawyer, Stephen Hopper.

"I was a magistrate at Bankstown Court for four years and I have never had to deal with such disrespect."

The hearing had to be postponed for nearly half an hour after the prosecution and defence consulted Ms Milledge, with the case eventually continuing after Issaka waited outside the courtroom as everyone stood for the magistrate.

New DHS manual on Islam says to equate sharia law with violence violates the first amendment

WTF? I read this and did a triple take. To say that sharia law is violent and because of that it violates free speech rights is ridiculous. Sharia law scholars all agree that parts of sharia law; stoning, amputation, execution by beheading are inherently violent, and by any standard they are, so why does DHS insist the opposite, and then threaten to penalize those who speak the truth?

Homeland Security guidelines advise deference to pro-Shariah Muslim supremacists

The Department of Homeland Security, which under Secretary Janet Napolitano has shown a keen interest in monitoring and warning about outspoken conservatives, takes a very different approach in monitoring political Islamists, according to a 2011 memo on protecting the free speech rights of pro-Shariah Muslim supremacists.

In a checklist obtained by The Daily Caller entitled “Countering Violent Extremism Dos and Don’ts” the DHS’s Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties notifies local and national law enforcement officials that it is Obama administration policy to consider specifically Islamic criticism of the American system of government legitimate.

This policy stands in stark contrast to the DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis’ 2009 memo “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment” [pdf], which warned of the dangers posed by pro-life advocates, critics of same-sex marriage and groups concerned with abiding by the U.S. Constitution, among others.

The advice of the Dos and Don’ts list is far more conciliatory. “Don’t use training that equates radical thought, religious expression, freedom to protest, or other constitutionally-protected activity, including disliking the U.S. government without being violent,” the manual’s authors write in a section on training being “sensitive to constitutional values.”

The manual, which was produced by an inter-agency working group from DHS and the National Counterterrorism Center, advises, “Trainers who equate the desire for Sharia law with criminal activity violate basic tenets of the First Amendment.”

The Homeland Security document also seems to discount evidence unearthed by the Justice Department about the aims of some mainstream Muslim organizations, warning law enforcement not to rely on “unsubstantiated theories” and “conspiracies,” such as the belief that “many mainstream Muslim organizations have terrorist ties” or are “fronts for Islamic political organizations whose true desire is to establish Sharia law in America.”

The elephant in the room now has his own bedroom and has been accepted as part of the family. We are doomed.

Of the two Tanzanians and four foreigners arrested – now officially identified as one from Saudi Arabia and three from the United Arab Emirates – only one Tanzanian national reportedly remains in custody as a suspect.

While Islamic extremist activity has increased in Tanzania, Christians on the Zanzibar archipelago have recently suffered attacks by Islamists and the separatist group Uamsho (Re-awakening). Uamsho, the Association for Islamic Mobilization and Propagation, has issued explicit threats to Christians on Zanzibar Island since October 2012.

At midnight on April 20, Islamic extremists in Kianga, 16 kilometers (11 miles) from Zanzibar City, demolished most of the Pool of Siloam church building, a church leader said. Three suspects were arrested, only to be released after three days.

“When we tried to follow up the case, we found out that some of the information concerning the pulling down of the church was missing,” church pastor Israel Baraka Elijah told Morning Star News. “Hence, we decided to give up all together.”

Damages were estimated at $2,500, he added. Muslim extremists had attacked the church building before, setting part of it on fire on Feb. 19 and battering it with sledge hammers in November 2011.

US Naval Academy Instructor Teaching On Behalf Of US Muslim Brotherhood

According to promotional material, a United States Naval Academy professor is teaching on behalf of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), a part of the US Muslim Brotherhood and where global Brotherhood leader Youssef Qaradawi reportedly serves as a trustee. IIIT recently announced its Summer Students Program for 2013 to be held from May 26 – July 3. According to the IIIT announcement, one of the instructors for the program will be Professor Ermin Sinanovic, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland who will be teaching the following course titled “Muslim World Affairs”:
One of the other instructors at the IIIT summer program will be US Muslim Brotherhood leader Louay Safi, identified in the announcement as affiliated with the College of Islamic Studies of the Qatar Foundation. In 2009 Louay Safi, also an official at the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), was at the center of a controversy when it was learned that the US Defense Department brought him to Fort Hood as an instructor and that he had been lecturing on Islam to troops in Fort Hood who were about to deploy to Afghanistan. In February 2010, the activities and lectures of Dr. Safi on all military bases were suspended pending a criminal inquiry by the U.S. military. A shooting took place at Fort Hood near Killeen, Texas on November 5, 2009 in which a single gunman killed 13 people and over 30 people were injured in the worst shooting ever to take place on an American military base. The only suspect in the shooting is Nidal Malik Hasan, a 39-year-old U.S. Army major serving as a psychiatrist. Dr. Safi has also been recently identified as a leading member of the Syrian National Council, a Syrian opposition group dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood.

Another instructor at the program will be Jasser Aouda (aka Jasser Auda), also identified as affiliated with the College of Islamic Studies of the Qatar Foundation. Dr Auda is best known as a a key advisor to Imamn Feisal Rauf, in turn known for his attempts to build an Islamic center two blocks away from the site of the 911 attacks. Dr. Auda is also a member of the IIIT Academic Council and a founding member of theInternational Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS), headed by Global Muslim Brotherhood leader Youssef Qaradawi and whose board of directors is comprised of many leaders of the Global Brotherhood. Dr. Auda is currently the Deputy Director of the Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics, headed by Global Muslim Brotherhood leader Tariq Ramadan, the grandson of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood and a Global Muslim Brotherhood leader in his own right.

Dr. Sinanovic has also been featured at other IIIT events and the UK branch of IIIT recently announced that he will be teaching at a summer school from 24 August – 7 September 2013 in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina. A flyer about the program indicates that the major speaker at the IIIT Bosnian summer school will be Tariq Ramadan. Dr. Sinanovic is also one of the founding members of the Bosniak Academy of Sciences and Arts, closely associated with Mustafa Ceric, the former Grand Mufti of Bosnia and an associate of Youssef Qaradawi. In September 2008, IIIT met with Dr. Ceric to discuss a proposal to a new University in Bosnia with IIIT acting as a consultant.

The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) describes itself as “a private, non-profit, academic, cultural and educational institution, concerned with general issues of Islamic thought and education” and using the slogan “Towards Islamization of Knowledge and Reform of Islamic Thought.” The concept for IIIT was developed at a meeting held in Lugano, Switzerland that was attended by many luminaries of the Global Muslim Brotherhood including Youssef Qaradawi. IIIT was founded in the U.S. in 1980 by U.S. Muslim Brotherhood leaders including Iraqi-born Jamal Barzinji and Hisham Altalib who wished to promote the Islamization of Knowledge as conceived by Ismail Al-Faruqi and who were also early leaders of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). A1991 internal document of the US Muslim Brotherhood, introduced as evidence in the holy Land Foundation trial, included IIIT in “a list of our organizations and organizations of our friends.”

Conservative Afghan lawmakers block legislation protecting women’s rights

KABUL, Afghanistan — Conservative religious lawmakers in Afghanistan blocked legislation on Saturday aimed at strengthening provisions for women’s freedoms, arguing that parts of it violate Islamic principles and encourage disobedience.

The fierce opposition highlights how tenuous women’s rights remain a dozen years after the ouster of the hard-line Taliban regime, whose strict interpretation of Islam once kept Afghan women virtual prisoners in their homes.
Khalil Ahmad Shaheedzada, a conservative lawmaker for Herat province, said the legislation was withdrawn shortly after being introduced in parliament because of an uproar by religious parties who said parts of the law are un-Islamic.

“Whatever is against Islamic law, we don’t even need to speak about it,” Shaheedzada said.

The Law on Elimination of Violence Against Women has been in effect since 2009, but only by presidential decree. It is being brought before parliament now because lawmaker Fawzia Kofi, a women’s rights activist, wants to cement it with a parliamentary vote to prevent its potential reversal by any future president who might be tempted to repeal it to satisfy hard-line religious parties.

The law criminalizes, among other things, child marriage and forced marriage, and bans “baad,” the traditional practice of exchanging girls and women to settle disputes. It makes domestic violence a crime punishable by up to three years in prison and specifies that rape victims should not face criminal charges for fornication or adultery.

Kofi, who plans to run for president in next year’s elections, said she was disappointed because among those who oppose upgrading the law from presidential decree to legislation passed by parliament are women.

Afghanistan’s parliament has more than 60 female lawmakers, mostly due to constitutional provisions reserving certain seats for women.

There has been spotty enforcement of the law as it stands. A United Nations analysis in late 2011 found only a small percentage of reported crimes against women were pursued by the Afghan government. Between March 2010 and March 2011 — the first full Afghan year the decree was in effect — prosecutors filed criminal charges in only 155 cases, or 7 percent of the total number of crimes reported.

The child marriage ban and the idea of protecting female rape victims from prosecution were particularly heated subjects in Saturday’s parliamentary debate, said Nasirullah Sadiqizada Neli, a conservative lawmaker from Daykundi province.

Neli suggested that removing the custom — common in Afghanistan — of prosecuting raped women for adultery would lead to social chaos, with women freely engaging in extramarital sex safe in the knowledge they could claim rape if caught.

Another lawmaker, Mandavi Abdul Rahmani of Barlkh province, also opposed the law’s rape provision.

“Adultery itself is a crime in Islam, whether it is by force or not,” Rahmani said.

FBI questions former Chechen rebel living in Manchester about repeated meetings with Boston bomber

MANCHESTER - Boston Marathon suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev went target shooting at a Manchester firing range and met up with an exiled former Chechen rebel living in the Queen City a month before the attack that killed three and wounded more than 260, according to a Voice of America report.

FBI agents on Tuesday searched the Manchester home of Chechnya native Musa Khadzhimuratov, and examined the hard drives on his computers, VOA reported. Police in Manchester confirmed the FBI agents searched Khadzhimuratov's home, according to the story, but Manchester Police Chief David J. Mara said police will not confirm anything because it is not their case.

The FBI, Mara said, also are not commenting on the matter.

At the Manchester apartment building where Khadzhimuratov lives, a woman responding to the buzzer by intercom said Khadzhimuratov was not home and will not be talking to reporters.
A resident who lives at the Eastern Avenue apartment complex said the FBI showed up about 8 a.m. Tuesday and did not leave until late in the afternoon.

Agents dressed in suits were posted at the front and back entrance to the Eastern Avenue apartment building at Hillview Apartments, preventing people from entering the building, she said.

About six other agents wearing white jumpsuits and black gloves entered the apartment where Khadzhimuratov lives with his wife, her parents and two or three children.

"I thought they were exterminators," said the resident. She only realized they were FBI after someone overheard an agent telling one of Khadzhimuratov's children, "Don't get scared. We're FBI and we're going to talk to your father."

Dubai: A couple has been sentenced to a year in jail for sex outside of marriage, after the man’s wife reported them to police.
The man’s wife was in the couple’s marital home in Discovery Gardens on November 29 at the time of the incident. She was in the living room while the pair were in the bedroom.
The hotel manager and his partner pleaded not guilty when they appeared before the Dubai Misdemeanour Court. They said they got married in Ukraine on August 1, 2012 and provided the judge with a copy of their marriage contract.
“It is true that we were having consensual sex… but I was not on good terms with my wife and we had marital problems that were leading us to divorce,” the manager said in court.
Records said the manager provided the judge with Sharia court papers certifying that he divorced his wife in December 2012.

“My husband is a Hindu and he is not allowed to have two wives at the same time. We had agreed to divorce but he was supposed to provide me with housing, which he didn’t. I was staying in the house temporarily until we settled things. When he brought his lover with him, I asked him to kick her out. He didn’t,” the man’s ex-wife said.
The Ukrainian woman is believed to be seven months’ pregnant.
Records said the 35-year-old Indian manager started having sex outside of marriage with his 22-year-old Ukrainian girlfriend in March 2012 while still married to his 32-year-old countrywoman.

Saudi traveler with pressure cooker arrested at Detroit Metro Airport

Federal agents arrested a traveler with an altered Saudi Arabian passport at Detroit Metro Airport over the weekend after discovering a pressure cooker in his luggage.

According to a criminal complaint filed Monday in U.S. District Court, passenger Hussain Al Khawahir initially told customs officers he brought the pressure cooker for a nephew at the University of Toledo because pressure cookers aren’t sold in Saudi Arabia, the complaint said. The man then changed his story and admitted his nephew had purchased a pressure cooker in America before, but it “was cheap” and broke after the first use.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) enforcement officer read the passenger his Miranda rights and took him into custody.

Al Khawahir is temporarily being detained pending a formal detention hearing, which is scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m. in U.S. District Court in Detroit. He is charged with knowingly using an altered Saudi Arabian passport with missing pages and making a false statement to a CBP officer about a pressure cooker found in his possession, all to gain entry into the U.S.

CBP officials and the FBI declined comment.

And it wasn’t just the pressure cooker — a device that was used in last month’s Boston Marathon bombings — that raised red flags for border officials. The man’s passport also caught their attention.

According to the complaint, two customs officers noticed a page had been removed from the Al Khawahir’s passport when he arrived at Detroit Metro on Saturday from Saudi Arabia via Amsterdam. Al Khawahir, who said he would be visiting his nephew in Toledo, said he did not know how the page was removed from the passport, the complaint said.

Was it a page that would have had country entrance/exit stamps on them? Maybe there would have been stamps from Yemen, or Pakistan, or Iraq. We may never know.

Al Khawahir told the officers that the passport was locked in a box that only he, his wife and three minor children have access to in his home, the complaint said. His hometown was not listed in court documents.

A minute after being read his Miranda rights, Al Khawahir invoked his right to remain silent, the complaint said.

Temporary marriage; Mut'a in England, it's all about sex

The shi'a concept of temporary marriage stems from their belief that Muhammad sanctioned it, as per sura 4 verse 24 which gives permission for men and women to enter into agreed upon marriage contracts, where the time and length of the marriage is stipulated, and gifts or money is given in exchange for the marriage. A dowry, if you will, but some see it as prostitution.

"And [also prohibited to you are all] married women except those your right hands possess. [This is] the decree of Allah upon you. And lawful to you are [all others] beyond these, [provided] that you seek them [in marriage] with [gifts from] your property, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse. So for whatever you enjoy [of marriage] from them, give them their due compensation as an obligation. And there is no blame upon you for what you mutually agree to beyond the obligation. Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Wise"

Mut'a is not uncommon but it is hidden. In Britain there are the beginnings of resistance to Islamic practices that clearly violate Western law, but until we can have an open and honest dialogue about the doctrine and tenets of Islam that drive people to engage in mut'a, its use will continue to rise, and and it will contribute to the undercut of British culture until Islam is the only religion.

The temporary marriage, or nikah mut'ah, is an ancient Islamic practice that unites man and woman as husband and wife for a limited time. Historically it was used so that a man could have a wife for a short while when travelling long distances. So why are young British Muslims adopting the practice now?

"It allowed us to meet without breaking the bounds of Sharia [Islamic law]. We both wanted to date, to go out for dinner or go shopping and just get to know each other better before getting married, which we wouldn't have been able to do otherwise," says Sara.

She is a 30-year-old pharmacist from Birmingham, a Shia Muslim of Pakistani heritage.'It's basically a contract'

Sara was temporarily married for six months before committing to a full marriage to her partner.

"It's basically a contract. You sit down and stipulate your conditions - for a girl who hasn't been previously married, you do need the father's permission," she said.

"We stipulated the duration, my father's conditions, and I requested what you would call a dowry where the guy gives a gift to the girl. It's simple, straightforward and doesn't take long at all," Sara added.She is one of a significant number of young British Muslims using a temporary marriage as a way of balancing their religious beliefs with their modern Western lifestyle.

Because of the informal nature of the union there are no official statistics to show how many temporary marriages there are in the UK. But a number of senior Shia Muslim scholars and Muslim student organisations told BBC Asian Network there is something of a revival.'Taboo subject'

There is a sectarian divide among Muslims on temporary marriage. The mut'ah is practised by Shia Muslims while Sunni Muslims generally consider it haram - forbidden.

The mut'ah is particularly popular on university campuses and, according to Omar Farooq Khan, president of the Ahlul Bayt Islamic Society at Bradford University, the practice is on the increase among Shia students."Definitely nikah mut'ah is on the rise now due to students becoming more aware about it. Students are educated people so obviously they look around for a solution to their problems from an Islamic perspective," said Mr Khan.

"What else are they going to do? They can't just have a cold shower because it doesn't work and otherwise they just end up doing the haram thing and having a girlfriend or boyfriend. Many people won't talk about it though, because it is still a taboo subject," he added.'Strictly not allowed'

Khola Hassan, a Sunni Muslim and spokesperson for the UK Islamic Sharia Council, says the practice is strictly not allowed. She says it is equal to prostitution because of the time limit applied to the union.

"I have never come across a Sunni scholar, throughout history, who declares mut'ah marriage to be halal," said Mrs Hassan."There is no difference between mut'ah marriage and prostitution. There is a time limit on the marriage, and the mahr given as a gift [from the man to the woman] is the equivalent as a payment to a prostitute," she added.

The nikah mut'ah consists of a verbal or written contract in which both parties agree the length of time and conditions for the marriage.

The union can last for a few hours, days, months or years and when the contract ends so does the marriage....

Stipulations such as no hanky panky can be written into the mut'a contract, but that is the same as paying a prostitute to have dinner with you and talk. Prostitution does not only mean sexual contact, but it is the primary goal of the mut'a.

It's a shame one of the worlds smartest people listened to the little voice of Noam Chomsky telling him Jews are evil, Israel is bad and that he should boycott the upcoming Israeli Presidents Conference called "Facing Tomorrow" featuring major international personalities, attracting thousands of participants and this year celebrating Shimon Peres's 90th birthday. I have always admired Hawking and have met him in person, this is difficult to accept for me. It is sad that a great talent succumbs to anti-Israeli propaganda spouted by Chomsky, I hope some reason creeps into the mind of Hawking and he changes his mind. Some say Hawking is a hypocrite because the software that runs his communications system on his wheelchair is made in Israel by Intel. I don't really care about that, his compromise on Israel due to a false narrative perpetuated by anti-Israelis is more the damning evidence of his blindness to reality.

I still admire the man, but he has dropped a few rungs on my respect-o-meter.

Stephen Hawking accused of hypocrisy over Israel conference boycott

Stephen Hawking's decision to boycott an Israeli conference in protest at the state's 46-year occupation of Palestine was derided as hypocritical by some, who pointed out that the celebrated scientist and author uses Israeli technology in the computer equipment that allows him to function.

Hawking, 71, has suffered from motor neurone disease for the past 50 years, and relies on a computer-based system to communicate.

According to Shurat HaDin, an Israel law centre which represents victims of terrorism, the equipment has been provided by the hi-tech firm, Intel, since 1997.

"Hawking's decision to join the boycott of Israel is quite hypocritical for an individual who prides himself on his whole intellectual accomplishment. His whole computer-based communications system runs on a chip designed by Israel's Intel team. I suggest if he truly wants to pull out of Israel he should also pull out his Intel Core i7 from his tablet," said Nitsana Darshan-Leitner of Shurat HaDin.

Intel could not be reached for comment, but their website quotes Justin Rattner, chief technology officer, as saying earlier this year: "We have a long-standing relationship with Professor Hawking." He added: "We are very pleased to continue to … work closely with Professor Hawking on improving his personal communication system."

Cambridge University declined to comment on allegations of hypocrisy regarding Hawking's communications system.

This is the crux of the biscuit, as Frank Zappa once said, and the only reason we are where we are today. Senate hearings to find the truth about Benghazi are under way, and the filth from the administration is flying fast and furious. The man at the center of all this is Greg Hicks, second in command to Ambassador Chris Stevens. His testimony so far has opened a large can of worms and have made much of the administration uncomfortable and afraid for their jobs. It has become all to obvious now that the White House lied and people died.

Where was the help requested as the jihad attack unfolded? Not coming, it was decided and the excuse is that the DoD "...had no units that could have responded in time to counter the attack in Benghazi." Another blow to freedom came when Mark Thompson, a former Marine and official with the State Department's Counterterrorism Bureau requested the deployment of a FEST team, a unit made up of special operations personnel, diplomatic security, intelligence and others. This request was summarily denied. At the very least, Hicks said the special forces could have treated the wounded if given the go ahead but that was never considered by our dear leader. For all the wrong reasons the administration choose to ignore not just the pleas for help during the attack that killed the Ambassador, but the requests from months previous asking for beefed up security; the reason for not doing so always based in the belief that the less the embassy looked fortified, the more the locals would like the people inside. Presenting the image of a walled fortress was not in the "winning of hearts and minds" scenario and for this politically correct viewpoint men died.

The plan was to ignore the jihad/Islam aspect and instead concentrate on how to spin it ahead of the election in November. Blaming the attack on an obscure anti-Islam video on YouTube was convenient but futile, they must have known the real facts would come out sooner or later, although the intimidation of witnesses before and during the hearing, including Greg Hicks does point strongly to the WH wanting to squelch, in the strongest terms any facts that would show them to be the lying bastards they are.

After a careful investigation by those who have everything to lose, this statement was released, see if it makes you feel any better, "Citing its internal review, the statement noted the review "found no evidence of any undue delays in decision making or denial of support from Washington or from the military combatant commanders" What else would you expect from the mouths of those who sent Susan Rice to the Sunday pundit shows, spouting the party line about how it was the fault of the video, and how it was just a little protest that turned ugly. The wagons have been circled and positions taken, the problem is there are a few wagons on fire and gaps are beginning to appear. Soon there will be two wagons left and they will have to keep moving to the left to keep the circle together.

Greg Hicks is the biggest thorn in the side of Obama that he will ever have to deal with. His testimony, as gruesome as it is, is a direct result of the White House policy that forbids talking about Islam in a way that connects it with violence. All training material used by the DoD and the military to teach Islamic fundamentalism has been scrubbed, and only those who spout the dogma that Islam is a religion of peace, and the violence is perpetrated by a tiny minority of extremists who seriously misunderstand the teachings of Islam are allowed to instruct. The result of this deliberate choice to refuse to call the enemy by the name that dare not be uttered is to remove any possibility of actually defeating that enemy.

Libyan President Magariaf, the day before Susan Rice opened her mouth on national TV, made public the fact that the attack had been premeditated and carried out by jihadists. He was furious at our attempt to portray the attack as a response to a stupid video, and a full two weeks later he was still steaming about it. We could have asked Magariaf who the culprits were, but even then I doubt we would have the balls to call it as it really is, even when Islam itself calls it as it is. Our inability to put on the big boy pants and take responsibility for our actions only serves to make us look even more barbaric to our enemies, adding to their zeal to destroy us.

Watergate caused a sitting president to resign, and that was only about some bungling burglars and the attempt to influence an election. No one died. Nixon stepped down as a courtesy to the American people; he knew he had no more gravitas and the healing of the nation was more important than his pride and ego. We can debate this point all day long, the fact that he resigned with no loss of life is to be respected. Obama lied and people died, yet he still insists to remain president. He made a statement recently that maybe he should pack up and go home. More prescient words have never been spoken. He should heed his own advice, for the good of America, of course.

Hillary Clinton is done, the fork can be pulled out and she can be served to the people she screwed. By saying the truth about Benghazi didn't matter she effectively said screw you to the American people. For the SCOTUS to ignore the truth about the murder of four American citizens, one of whom was her direct employee is a national disgrace. She blatantly and with no conscience whatsoever scuttled any chance at more political facetime, and with it any hope of the presidency. Rightly so, and the sooner she drops from the scene the better. She resigned right soon after the murders, and I am guessing she was hoping that enough time would pass before the serious questions began to be asked, at which time she would be long out of any loop for testifying. Maybe that would have spared some hurt feelings, but in the end it is the truth which brings down the powerful, and it also sets us free.

The truth regarding the deaths of Chris Stevens and those who tried to protect him, and themselves is coming to light. Despite the threats, lies, coercion and strong-arming of the truth-tellers we will know what happened and why. When the dust settles, I hope for the sake of our national psyche there are impeachment hearings for Obama, arrest and trial for others, and final justice for Stevens and all those who have suffered under the deceit and cover-up this administration has perpetrated.
