sarah lucas: ordinary things

'ordinary things' is an exhibition of a collection of works by london-based artist sarah lucas held at the henry moore institute in leeds.
the showing is curated by lisa le feuvre, head of sculpture studies at the institute, and assembles thirty compositions which turns to the
sculptural rather than the sensational, positioning lucas’ work within an art historical lineage that addresses the materials and processes of that discipline.

lucas’ pieces are made informed by the human body, an example being ‘au naturel’ (1994), which is a portrait of a couple on a bed,
a man portrayed by a cucumber and two oranges; a woman by a pair of melons and a bucket. both confronting creations are constructed
from materials that are commonplace, their ‘human’ element made from organic matter that must be replaced as destined decay sets in.

the display summons and clearly demonstrates the essence of the artist's distinct curiosity with the corporeal, provoking the same
within the viewer.
