Taking a Break

I'm sorry for the long break I've taken. I kept putting off writing this post. I thought some how I would be able to get back to blogging and crafting. But my Dads health isn't getting better and he's requiring more and more care. I'm so thankful that I'm able to care for him. God has blessed me with an amazing husband that understands and supports me thru all these years of caring for my Dad. My Dad is 74, so he's not that old but he hasn't taken care of his health and life has been hard on him. Time is running out for him and I'm trying very hard to make this time special for him and focus on the good. The Dr has told us my Dads time is limited and we believe the Lord has given us this time as a gift. A gift to say the things we need and want to say, a gift to make this time special and focus on what is most important to us. A gift to not have any regrets.

Yesterday was an especially hard day and I questioned God if it was better to know ahead of time that a loved one was dying or if it was easier for them to be taken away with no warning. Gods answer to me, there is no easy way to lose someone you love. Each one has its difficulties, so I'm choosing to look at this as a blessing. We've had especially hard year and a half and now I can see that God had his hand in it. He knew this was going to be more than I could take and He was preparing me, making me stronger, so I could handle this and that it wouldn't break me.

So I am taking a break from my blog. I'm not sure how long I"ll be gone. Please check back from time to time. Right now I find no comfort in crafting. I have very few spare moments and its enough just to keep my daily life going.
Hopefully I'll be back soon.

Timberline Super Simple Layout

Usually for my Super Simple Layout class I have a "super simple" layout. But I loved this layout when I saw it and admittedly it has more stamping than I usually have my class attendees do for this class, I just couldn't get this layout out of my mind. Its just one of those layouts that can be used for so many outdoor type pictures.

The very talented and gracious Susan Williams designed this layout and was kind enough to let me use it for my class. Susan does amazing work and I was honored to get to meet her this past June at our Close To My Heart convention at Disney Land. She is the sweetest and most humble person, a true midwest girl (Missouri). You can find all of her amazing work on her blog at Just Crazy Blessed

Timberline Layout 3

I've used the Timberline Workshop On The Go for the last 2 layouts and with the leftover papers from that I was able to make this layout and still have enough leftover paper to make a card. Wish I would have remembered to take a picture of the card. Oh well, on to the details of this layout.

There really isn't to many details. All the cuts are pretty straight forward and easy. I've left lots of room for pictures. I dont know about you but I always seem to take way to many pictures and sometimes I want to get as many on a layout as possible. The embellishments leave plenty of room for that. Now I'm off to find the photos to add to this fun layout.

I'm just getting back from vacation and busy doing laundry, grocery shopping and all those fun things that go with getting back to normal life. So needless to say I don't have a lot of time to blog but I wanted to share a layout I did quite some time back.

It's from the Timberline Workshop On The Go and works great for outdoor and camping pictures. But with the title No Limits you can really use it for any guy pictures.

Happy Flash Mob of Close to My Heart consultants

As some of you may know I just got back from the Close To My Heart Convention in California. There are so many fun things that happen at CTMH convention that its hard to pick a favorite, but this little moment will always be a fun memory. The very talented and creative Tresa Black had a wonderful idea on how we could do something special for our founder Jeannette Lynton and to celebrate her 30th Anniversary of founding Close To My Heart. Tresa decided we should do a flash mob.

I've never been part of a flash mob nor am I one that dances. At least not in public.But friends convinced me to do it. So I practiced and let me tell you, it ain't pretty. So I practiced some more. And some more. It just was not getting better. My upper half and my bottom half just don't move together. But my sweet fun friends weren't letting me out of it. But as time drew near I just knew it wasn't going to happen. 400 wonderful CTMH consultants danced their hearts out and had fun. But as someone that got to see all the action, I don't think they had as much fun as I did watching them dance. My heart was dancing and my foot was a tapping and I was Happy Happy Happy in my heart!

Its been a long time since I've posted. Got to tell you I'm at a lose for words lately. Life is good but blogging takes work and lots of words. I've been busy living life and enjoying family and friends so if you all don't mind I'll be sharing layouts from past classes but not alot of words to go with it.

I love this Scrap Happy layout. A very sweet and dear friend designed this layout and let me borrow it for a class I taught at the Honey Creek Resort scrapbook retreat. You can see the original on Shelly's blog at Just One Pretty Piece. She's a very talented Close To My Heart consultant and designs wonderful scrapbook pages and beautiful cards. When you get one of her amazing cards in the mail it makes your day!

I was so happy when she said I could use her layout for a class. I love dots and this paper is so fun and happy just like Shelly. With so many colors you can change it up just by changing the solid cardstock. Shelly designed this using 2 of Close To My Hearts Cricut cartridges. The Artbooking and Artiste Cricut Cartridges are so versatile.The letters for Scrap, and the scissors were cut using the Artiste Cricut Cartridge. The word Happy the camera and the heart were all cut using the Artbooking Cricut Cartridge. I did change up Shelly's layout just a smidge. I added a heart cut with Glitter paper to the center of the circle heart. And I used a different sticker from the Base & Bling Story Teller Craft Sheet. I had already used the "I make pretty things all day" sticker for a necklace I made so I used the "I heart Crafts" sticker. They both work for the layout and don't make a difference in the overall design. Thats the wonderful part of scrapbooking, making it personal and using what you have!

Ivy Lane Workshop On The Go Layout 3

This is the last layout I have for Ivy Lane and I've loved working with this paper. The pink, green and purple are very springy. Now I can get pictures printed and add them to the layouts.

The layout doesn't have alot of embellishments but that keeps the focus on the pictures. Exactly were the focus should be.

I've gotten behind on blogging my layouts. This one was from a few months ago but better late than never I say. The Ivy Lane Workshop On The Go makes scrapbooking so quick and easy. Sometimes lifes just to busy to re-invent the wheel every time you want to scrapbook. I love that someone else has taken all the to design great layouts and all I have to do is cut and paste.

I really like the colors in the Ivy Lane papers, I love the color purple but I don't seem to scrapbook with it very much. The pink, purple and green just seem to pop on this page. I can't wait to take spring pictures to add to this layout. Outside pictures in the yard will be perfect with this color palette. The flowers are cut with the Artiste Cricut Cartridge and then stamped. Super easy!!

Base & Bling Jewelry

Close To My Heart has a new jewelry line and I'm in love. I don't wear alot of jewelry but I do like necklaces. And I don't like to pay a fortune for them. If their inexpensive I can have more variety and thats were CTMH necklaces come into play. And play I did!

This is the first necklace I made. It was quick and easy. The flower is a square sticker from the Story Teller Style Sheet and you don't have to do trim anything. You just put it into the square pendant. I covered the inside of the pendant with Liquid Glass and I added the glass cover. I wiped off the edges with a baby wipe and let it sit to dry. Picking out the charms to add to the necklace was easy and for this necklace I wanted simple and elegant. I added the "love" heart charm from the Story Teller charm set and a Rhinestone charm for a bit of bling.

My second necklace is my favorite, and I really do wish I made pretty things all day. I craft when I can but its rarely everyday. This sticker design is from the Craft Queen Style Sheet and would have been better in a square pendant but I really wanted to use the silver chain and I only had a round pendant in the silver so thats what I went with. It works and I love it but it would show more of the design if it were in a square pendant.
I added the camera and scissors from the Craft Queen charm set and a rhinestone from the Rhinestone Charms because every necklace needs a bit of bling!

You can also use 1" pictures in these pendants and I'll be ordering several of those when I place my next Studio J order. Did you know you can use Studio J to print photos? YES you can! I'm doing a blog post soon to tell you all about it.

Roger's Family- Picture My Life

I'm still using the Avonlea Picture My Life kit but these cards have a different look and feel to them. They are part of the same kit and they're all coordinating and by using the other side of the card you can have a variety.

I've found pictures of Roger as a child and I'm loving going thru those photos. So far I think my favorite is the one of him and his Mom in the second row, she's holding him and leaning up against the side of the house. Theres just something about the way she's holding him tight and has a far away look on her face. Not sure what it is about that photo but I really like it.

Right now I'm just getting pictures in the sleeves. I'll add extra embellishments and journaling while I'm at a scrapbook retreat in a couple weeks. But this way the pictures are in the album and ready to go. I have a few ideas for titles and I'll use Close To My Heart alphabet stamps to make those. There are alot of title cards that would work great but I want to add some personal info on the title card. Don't you just love those doilies on the title card below! It looks like a button or two might make a great addition too.

How cute are Roger and his brother Ron in those cute hats!! And they're all so gentlemanly in their white shirts and bow ties. ADORABLE! Oh if you knew them all now...

And now I'm off to get craft happy with some pretty paper.

I'm in love with Picture My Life!

We're going to throw back, waaaaay back to my childhood. Now thats ALONG time ago. Just ask my kids. But really, it wasn't that long ago. Remember the days of Easter bonnets, white gloves and adorable dresses. And my poor, sweet brother in that plaid suit and look at that hat. What was my Mother thinking! Its a good thing he was so stinkin cute!

I stamped my title using the Vogue Alphabet stamps. I really like this stamp set because it has an upper and lower case alphabet. I'll be journaling on the 2 Avonlea Picture My Life cards in the center. I really have to journal about these insanely funny pictures so my kids and grandkids will know the stories of our family and our faith. Did you know its in the Bible that we're to pass on these stories to the next generations? Yup, it is. Psalm 78: 4, 6 "We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His power, and the wonders He has done.So the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children." We need to share our faith stories in our scrapbooks.
I will share with the next generations that my Mom took us to church and she made sure that we went to Sunday School. Easter wasn't just about pretty dresses, suits and hunting Easter eggs. It was about our faith and Jesus dying on the cross for you and me. We have shared that faith with our kids and I'll continue to share that faith with other generations. I wish I could say my kids come from a long line of people with a strong faith. Reality is they don't. But my husband and I are changing that. We can change family legacys for the better.

A little background on the two photos above: My brothers, sisters and I are sitting on the couch when we were young. We've always joked about this picture and so a few years ago we decided to recreate the original photo. As you can see we're laughing and having a good time. Gotta love family!

Now the pictures below are from my childhood and when my parents were married. Thankfully I had these pictures safe before my Moms apartment burnt down and we lost many many family photos. I've started adding names to the "Family Tree" card. I have to double check on the spelling of a couple middle names. I certainly don't want to get the spelling wrong.

I'll be asking my Mom for more info on these pictures so I can add journaling. Some have dates on the back, and the picture on the bottom right has the date printed on it which really helps. I love the sentiment on the center card "picture PERFECT". None of these pictures, by todays photography standards would be considered perfect. But they are perfect to me. They are my family, my history and they are my story. That makes them perfect to me.

So I hope you get out your pictures. Any pictures. And start telling your story for the next generation.

Picture My Life

Close To My Heart has a new line and I've decided to try it out. Picture My Life. It starts our just like regular scrapbooking only easier. And quicker! And I can really get into quicker. We all know life is going at break neck speed lately.

I'm starting with the Avonlea Picture My Life kit. You have the option of a full title page and it fits in a standard 12x12 page protector. I'm using my Picture My Life album for all of my favorite photos. So I started with one of my favorite pictures of me and my adorable hubby. This picture was taken on our favorite beach a few years ago.

I'm not putting the pictures in chronological order or any order at all actually. As I come across pictures I like I'm putting them in my album.Even if they are already in my kid's albums. This is one just for me so it can be whatever I want it to be. I'll be scrapping the good, the bad and the ugly in this album. As long as its my favorite photos and they speak to my heart.Even if they aren"t the best photos in the world, GASP!

I have lots of pictures that I've made copies of or I haven't had time to scrap yet and I don't want them attached in a regular scrapbook layout. In this album I just slid them in the slot and I'm able to take them out at any time and make more copies. You know all those photos we have from before digital cameras.

The second page has my favorite photos of when our son was born. Erica was so excited to have a little brother and he really couldn't care less. Roger is looking over his beautiful children and feeling very proud of the little family he's created, Erica is nuzzling Tyler's hand and I'm sure planning on all the loves and hugs she's going to be giving her little brother and Tyler's crying. He wasn't a big one for hugs and kisses then and he's still not. This kids love language is words of encouragement and gifts. Bring him lots of gifts!!! Then your speaking to his heart. Actually all three of them love words of encouragement. My 3 peas in a pod.

The Avonlea Picture My Life set is a perfect match for these black and white photos. And I love that you get different page protectors in each set.So if you have page protectors for horizontal or vertical photos. You can also buy extras of any design.

I'll still be doing my regular scrapbooking. I LOVE to scrapbook and use pretty paper and adhesive and bling. Lots of bling! But for this project the Picture My Life kit as an answer to prayers for quick scrapbooking.

Ivy Lane Workshop On The Go Layout 1

We've had so much snow and ice here in Iowa that this paper pack was a breath of fresh air. All that green, pink and purple makes me think spring. I'm loving anything green right now!

And the Ivy Lane Workshop On The Go is the perfect kit for spring. Greens, pinks, purples- they all say spring is on the way. Yah!!! There are so many great papers in this kit as always. And the script printed paper works for so many layouts, cards or home decor.
I really do like that Close To My Heart has made the stamp sets in the WOTG's larger for titles. "This is so AMAZING" can be used on different layouts together or separately. I used Hollyhock ink for all the images on these two layouts. The stamped flower is easily cut with scissors after stamped on white card stock. I stamped the Pure Simple Wonderful You stamp right on top of the script paper and added Purple Glitter Gems to two corners. The arrows are quick and simple and you can stamp as many as you need for journaling.
The purple flowers, green vines and title banner are cut using the Artiste Cricut Cartridge. Resin flowers from the Ivy Lane Assortment were used for the flower centers. And the purple netting flowers are gorgeous! You really do need to actually see them. I'll be ordering more of them right away.

Frosted Super Simple Layout

First off, I finally figured out my lighting issue when I was trying to take photos of my projects. Lets just say I was one happy camper! And you really can tell how wonderful the Frosted paper line is. I have several lights for my light box and I thought I had them all as "day light" bulbs. Guess not. I turned them on one by one until I found the one that made the project turn yellow. So much frustration could have been avoided if I had taken the 3 minutes it took. Now I'm Happy, Happy, Happy!!!

Now on to the last layout using the Frosted paper pack. ( the paper pack is sold out but we do have the Workshop On The Go while supplies last) I have ladies in my classes that like super quick and easy layouts that don't require alot of stamping so I try to have at least one layout thats quick to put together. And this layout fits that perfectly.

This layout was made with paper, the ArtBooking Cricut Cartridge and Bitty Sparkles. All the snowflakes were cut with the Cricut and the Bitty Sparkles were added to the centers. The journal spot was also cut with the Cricut and the rest of the papers are all straight lines. Easy peasey!

Frosted Layout 3

Simple Pleasures are Priceless Treasures. And a snowy day like today, snuggled up in my favorite chair with no where I have to be, is a treasure. Two puppies at my feet, my sweet daughter talking to me while she's snuggled on the couch and my favorite chocolates in the candy dish and this is a priceless day. Now to have someone take a picture... because you know the minute I move to take a picture the puppies are going to move and the perfect peaceful moment will be gone!

Well, since I wasn't able to capture that moment in photos I may take some pictures of the dogs outside in the snow tomorrow. With the snowflakes on this layout those would be great pictures for this too. The Art Booking and Artist Cricut Cartridges makes these snowflakes so easy. Just cut the snowflakes and then stamp them using the Frosted Workshop On The Go stamp set for the small snowflakes and the large snowflakes are stamped with the Classy Doily stamp set. I used Twilight and Whisper ink for the snowflakes. And I added a few Sparkles to the center of each snowflake. And of course the title is from the Workshop On The Go too. In this layout I stamped the title in Blush ink. One of my go to stamp sets here lately is Swirls Around. It always add that little extra touch to any page and goes with almost any layout. Hope your able to make some Priceless memories this weekend. :)

Frosted Layout 2 "You melt my heart"

This is the second layout in the Frosted Workshop On The Go. It's a wonderfully simple layout. Even tho its made with the Frosted paper thats a bit more snow themed this layout can be used for any time of year. Because we all have someone in our lives that melts our heart!

As I'm looking over the picture I realized I took this picture before I was finished with the 2nd page. The first circle with the banner says "Family" and there should be another circle on the second layout that says "Friends" that will go in the pink square.
I really like the addition of the Sparkle Flourishes. They add that sparkle that every layout needs :) And don't you just love the pink flowers that come with the Workshop On The Go!

Frosted "Simple Pleasures are Priceless Treasures"

The Frosted Workshop On The Go is just gorgeous! And sad to say pictures don't do it justice. It could be my picture taking abilities which are in desperate need of improving, but I never seem to have the time to spend learning new camera skills. But you really need to see this paper for yourself.

And beyond the paper I really do love the title stamps. Close To My Heart knows scrapbookers and they know that we need larger stamps for titles on our scrapbook layouts. And they coordinate with our Cricut cartridges so it makes titles really stand out.

And you can use this title on so many different layouts. Change up the paper and the ink color and you have a very different title. So many options!
And look at that snowflake border cut with the Cricut Artiste cartridge! I could have cut that with Glitter Paper and it would have been amazing! The Sparkle Flourishes do add a bit of bling to the page. Just the right amount of sparkle.

Now it's off to make some fun memories in the snow with our puppy girl and to take lots of pictures.

National PaperCrafting Month Cloud Nine

If you want to make cards the quick and easy way you need to try the National Papercrafting Month card kit. I'm in love with the shimmer trim and the ease that the cards come together. Just add adhesive and you have everything you need!

Moms Calender

I haven't had a chance to share the calender I made for my Mom for Christmas. I make her a scrapbook calender every year with pictures of all the grandkids and sometimes pictures of us kids or old black and white photos of her family. It's also a great way to use up all the scraps and old stickers from my scrapbook stash.
But this year was so very busy and we've spent alot of time in the hospital with Roger's Mom so I ran out of time quickly. I should have my scrappers license revoked, but I ordered Mom a calender online! I'm ashamed to even say it out loud when everyone knows I scrapbook. But life happens and it's more important to spend time with family and Mom's main focus is the pictures so she was very understanding. And I have to tell you it was super easy to click and drag those photos. I even used some pictures from family members Facebook pages. The pics from Facebook are a bit blurry but their better than no pictures at all.

The pages are all faith based and the background pages have inspiring phrases or words on them. Each month has a special scripture. If I had more time I could have put each persons birthday on the calender but I ran out of time.

I would have rather had the time to make an actual scrapbook calender but I'm happy with how it turned out with the small amount of time it took.

ArtBooking Cricut Cartridge Layout

Life after Christmas is finally starting to get back to normal. Our daughter was home for 2 weeks over the holidays and we really enjoyed her visit. While she's been home I've taken a break from my Close To My Heart job and my blog. But I'm hoping to get things back to normal and hopefully blogging on a more regular basis for the new year. I have so many great layouts from last year that I haven't had time to post. This is a great one from the Idea Book using the ArtBooking Cricut Cartridge. I'm not sure who designed this layout but it was fun to make.

All the Cricut cuts were from the Artbooking Cricut Cartridge and there were ALOT of cuts! And a good deal of stamping. And one of the things I love most about Close To My Heart exclusive Cricut cartridges is that our stamps coordinate with them. So you quickly cut out the design you want and then use the stamp set that coordinates with it. Easy Peasey! I'm loving the texture that the backdrop gives the layout. The Cricut did a great job cutting all those shapes.
