History

The term "Bulldog" is known from early 16th century. The breed was used in the game Bull baiting, very popular game back in the middle ages. But the sport was eventually banned because of its brutality and the dog breed Bulldog became just a home pet. Today's Bulldog has mixed with the pug back in the 19th century and is slightly different from the medieval Bulldog. Its unique appearance is a motive for various mascots. 39 American universities use Bulldog as their mascot.

Funny public toilet for dogs

Also known as a TREE among humans :)

The Golden Retriever is a medium-sized breed of dog. They belong to the group of Retriever dogs and their name derives from their color. Their country of origin is Great Britain. Golden Retrievers possess great intelligence and so as other Retriever type of dogs they love water.

Characteristics

Golden Retrievers appearance is symmetric and strong. They are also very active and obedient. Their head is proportional to their body and have strong jaw. Their muscular and proportional neck is connected with their balanced body. Golden Retrievers chest are very strongly developed. They walk powerful and easy. Golden Retrievers have double coat and usually long hair (although medium-sized hair does occur on some dogs). They have golden or cream color ( variety of these colors). Easy going, intelligent, quiet but active describe Golden Retrievers temperament. Their height is 51 - 61 centimeters (20 - 24 inches) and their weight 27 - 34 kilos ( 60 -75 lbs). The have life span of around 11 - 13 years.
History

Golden Retrievers appeared as a different breed in the late 19 century. They were a good substitute for the Setters in some of the hunting duties. Golden Retrievers were recognized by The Kennel Club of England in 1903. There are three sub types of this dog breed with slight differences: English type, American type and Canadian type.

Advice on aggressive dog

A lot of owners have aggressive dogs and they think that's natural. It's not. If the dog constantly barks on people eventually it might bite. It takes only a second of negligence and you will be in a very unpleasant position, apologizing to the passerby or even worse facing a charge. If your dog is behaving like that you should take some steps to reduce dog's aggressive behavior towards people :

* When your dog starts to bark on people, give him the "NO" command and rapidly pull the leash (of course not to hurt the dog just to take him out of balance). If it stops barking give him a treat (reward). Eventually the dog will understand that he doesn't protect you with his barking and that it should not bark on people.

* Check your attitude when you walk with your dog. Are feeling tensed? Frightened? Dogs feel your emotions and your attitude reflects on their attitude. Always be relaxed when you have a walk with your dog, not just because of your dog, because of yourself!

* Let him know who is the Alpha (boss) in your "pack" (human pack). Walk him beside or behind you when he is on leash. Eat before him, not with him or after him. Feed him in a scheduled time. Avoid feelings like nervousness, anxiety etc. when you are around your dog.

* You know the saying " You can't teach an old dog new tricks", but don't give up. We are talking about some basic things that every dog should know. From what I've read some dog trainers start training dogs when they are two years old (Dick Maller, Jeffrey Feinman).
There are three steps to perform CPR on a dog:

1 - Lay the dog on either side (right side is preferable if it is possible). Remove any foreign objects from their body ( clothes, collars etc.), anything that can block air (oxygen) supply. Close his mouth, stretch his neck, put your mouth on his nose and start blowing air in his nose until his chest starts to expand. As you can see unlike human CPR, dog CPR is usually performed through victims nose.
2 - Remove your hand and let the dog exhale naturally. Immediately redo the first step 1 - 20 times in one minute until the dog starts to breath on his own.
3 - Check the heart beat every 15 seconds. If the heart stops beating, you must use heart massage along with CPR. Request veterinary help immediately!

The Beagle is small to medium-size breed of dog coming from Great Britain. They belong to the group of hound dogs. Beagles have excellent developed scenting ability and because of their playful nature, they are among the most popular dog breeds.

Characteristics

The Beagle is strong and muscular, although it doesn't appear so. Their head is middle-sized and they have big eyes. Beagles have strong and flexible neck so they can detect scent easily. They have well developed muscular back legs. Their hair is short, dense and weather resistant. Beagles can occur in various colors, but the tricolor appearance is most common (white with brown and black). Their scenting ability is in the top of dog breeds. They weigh around 20 - 25 lb ( 9 - 11 kg) and have height of around 33 - 41 cm ( 13 - 16 inches) although there is one more class od beagles under 13 inches which is not recognized by The Kennel Club. The beagle is generally a healthy dog with no health issues. Beagles are very energetic, resistant, intelligent, fearless and dignified dogs. They are very good with kids and unlike other dogs who usually connect with only one family member, they are connected with everyone in the family. Their life span is around 12 - 15 years.

History

The origin of the word Beagle is uncertain, although the word beag in Gaelic means little, so that might be the answer. Beagles existed for centuries as hound dogs they were first mentioned in 1475 as part of the hunting parties. It was in the middle of 19th century when Reverend Phillip Honeywood established Beagle pack and set up the standard for modern Beagles.

Do dogs have sense of time?

The answer is yes. Have you noticed how your dog gets excited when you return to your home? It seems that they are equally excited when you return after 5 minutes and after 5 hours. But their happiness and excitement isn't happening because they lack a sense of time, it's because they were feeling lonely and they like the presence of people especially their owners. They enjoy people`s company. And have you noticed the same thing when you wake up? They get all excited again although you are right next to them. Other fact that they are aware of time is that dogs usually signalize their owners when it's time for them to go out, eat and etc. There are many dog owners who will confirm this by saying "my dog knows the exact hour when it's time for eating". Dogs do have sense of time, so next time when you get back home and your dog jumps around you should know it's because of its love not because of the passed time!

PUG

Yorkshire Terrier is a small-sized dog breed that originates from Yorkshire, England. It is one of the types of Terrier dogs. Although originally used for catching rats in homes, nowadays it is a popular family dog. It is one of the most popular dog breeds today.
Characteristics

Yorkshire Terrier dogs are small but very dignified breed. The body is tiny but very proportional, it is very strong compared to their size. The head is small covered with long hair and a black mask. Yorkshire Terrier dog has a strong neck, well placed on its shoulders that gives an impression of elegance. It walks elegantly. Yorkshire Terrier dogs have only one coat so they don't molt so often like the dogs with double coats. Other advantage of this type of their hair and coat is that people who are allergic to dogs won't have such problems with them. There is one standard mixture of colors for Yorkshire Terriers and that is blue and tan. Yorkshire Terrier dogs weigh from 4 lb to 7 lb ( 2 kg - 3.2 kg) and have a height around 6 - 7 inches (15 - 17.5 centimeters). A typical Yorkshire Terrier is always ready to move, playful, vital and temperamental. Life span varies from 13 - 16 years.

Obviously the Yorkshire Terrier dog got his name from the region of Yorkshire, Northern England. They were used in 19 century wool and cotton mills throughout England, after their success in guarding the stock from rodents. Yorkshire Terrier dogs were recognized as breed by the English Kennel Club in 1886. The German Shepherd Dog is a large-sized breed of dog and as its name suggests it originates from Germany. History and fun facts

It was the German Captain - Max Von Stephanitz who begun to standardize this breed. Until then this type of dog was just a regular shepherd dog. UK Kennel Club recognized this breed in 1919. The Pekingese is a small sized breed of dog originating in China ( Beijing the capital of China formerly known as Peking). It is considered to be one of the oldest dog breeds in the world, its origins are dating back some 2000 years ago.

Characteristics

Leonine in appearance, it can weigh from 7 to 14 lb (3.2 to 6.4 kg) and stand about 6–9 inches (15–23 cm). The Pekingese are fearless, loyal and sometimes stubborn dogs. Their loyalty and urge to protect their owner gives them reputation of aggressive dogs but aggressiveness is not in their nature. They have large head and wide between their eyes. The Pekingese body is short and heavier in front than rear. Their legs are short, thick and heavily boned. The Pekingese walking is slow and dignified. They have double coat, the hair is long and all colors and markings are represented but most common are gold, sable and red. The pekingese life span is 13-15 years, although sometimes they can live up to 18 years.

Legends and history

According to the legend this dog breed came as a result of the love between a lion and a monkey. The strength of their love softened the hearts of the Gods and they have allowed them to live together and as a product of that love a new breed of dog came - The Pekingese - dog with a heart of a lion and a face of a monkey. In china this breed is considered to be one of the representations of the legendary Foo dogs, dogs that used to chase away evil spirits. During the Second Opium War, French and British soldiers ransacked the Summer Palace. Although the royal guards were ordered to kill all the pekingese dogs, five of them survived and were brought to the English Queen Victoria. That's where the modern Pekingese dog breed also known as Peke has its origins.
