Retrofitting the Lummoxie Template with Blogger's threaded comment system has been a few months in coming, but no one is counting, right? [Gulp] I don't want to dwell on this... To make haste as our more punctillious brethren might do, and by that I mean to get to the point, seems a bit more appropriate.

And the point is of course, that the Lummoxie template has been updated and retrofitted with Blogger's comment reply functionality.

A second notable improvement is the restyled PageList/LinkList widget which now accommodates new line wrapping or longer link links.

The New "Nymphont Style," Blogger Template

Making yet another stride in my goal to modernize of all of my free Blogger template designs and retrofit them with threaded comments, the new "Nymphont Style," template is up-to-date and ready for your blogging pleasure. I do hope the updates are pleasing to those stylish bloggers' already sporting a version of the template, and to those who might like to as well.

Modernization of the code and a little streamlining to the aesthetic make for the more inconspicuous changes in the new template, while major renovations to speak of include the threaded comments, which have been enabled, new-line wrapping capabilities in the horizontal LinkList and PageList widgets, creating the design and giving style to Blogger's Jump-break ("read-more," or post-summary links), and also the ability to add Blogger's share buttons to the post-footer. Yay!

Since their debut, share buttons have been the most requested template feature I have received by far, and Blogger's threaded comments have recently become the second most requested feature I have received. I am stoked to get both of these tasks accomplished for those that asked, whom, I would like to add, have been beyond patient! The new "Nymphont Style," template, and all of my planned template-updating would be impossible if it were not for your feedback, suggestions, and kindness. Thanks so much Blogger enthusiasts!

« Restructured & Redesigned Post-Footer
The pink text given the thin pink border shown in the image above depicts the default style for a Jump-Break (read more/post summary link) in the new template. Also visible in the above image, Blogger's post sharing buttons in the new "Nymphont Style" template's post-footer.

To accommodate the newly implemented Blogger share buttons and Jump-Break (Blogger's read more/post-summary link), the post-footer underwent a little restructuring. Akin to all other areas of the template, individual color options for the border and text color are provided for the Jump-Break link in the Template Designer's "Advanced," editor.

« Horizontal Nav/PageList New-Line Wrapping
The horizontal navigation bar utilizes either a LinkList or a PageList widget to function, and accommodates more items (the links) than the previous version. Items that are unable to fit within the first line will handsomely wrap onto and become a corresponding new-line, as the links do in the image example shown above. The new-line wrapping permits the LinkList widget or PageList widget used to accommodate lists containing only a few items or links, to those containing many.

Another improvement in the new "Nymphont Style," template has been made to the sidebar's "blog sharing icons," which are "hard-coded," into the template. Now even easier to modify, remove, or hide, these icons are located in the template code between starting caption:

in the template code. Just below this in the template, you will also find the code for the search form.

« Blog Sharing Icons & Search Feature

Working immediately requiring no effort on the user to implement, the sidebar boasts social network icons for which to share your blog, along with a blog search utility.

To remove the sidebar's blog sharing icons, beginning with the "starting" caption, and ending after the "ending," caption, select the text, delete it (cut it), and save the template. In their absence, the search-box will then handsomely align to the center of the column. Additionally, the sidebar icons can be "hidden" by adding:

to the template CSS, just above the following line:

In the same manner the sidebar sharing icons can be removed or hidden, the search-box can also be removed by deleting it from the template code directly, or adding this line:

to the template CSS, above the following line:

« Bold & Italic Settings for Fonts and Text

Font and text style definitions added to the "Advanced," editing options within the Template Designer allow for a much more pleasing visual to text.

Another seemingly less-conspicuous yet substantial improvement in new "Nymphont Style," template, has been the addition of Bold and Italic font definitions to the "Advanced," editor of the Template Designer. Seemingly would be the emphatic word in there, as these new definitions allow the user to set a specific font-face and style to italicized text and bold text. This means, any time the user selects texts within a post to appear bold or italic, it will be styled as per their definitions set within Template Designer's "Advanced," editor.

Simply styling bold and italicized text the right fashion can have an incredible impact on the blog's typography, substantially improving it's presense and readability.

Updated HautePress Blogger Templates!

Hot off the presses, new and improved HautePress templates are available. That's right, templates, plural. HautePress now comes in a 'sidebar right/main content left' orientation as well as the reverse.

« Threaded Comments Enabled

In what might be the biggest and the best of the improvements to HautePress, is the enabling of Blogger's threaded comment system. An example comment and comment reply shown in the image above.

« New-line Wrapping in PageList Widget

The preceeding screencapture illustrates how I have designed and coded the PageList widget to handle new-line wrapping. New-line wrapping will now neatly wrap additional line items in the PageList widget. In the earlier version of HautePress, new-lines would overlap, limiting the number of links to what could fit the width of given a browser.

**Important Note Regarding PageList Widget:
To rearrange order of items in the PageList widget, use the widget-edit icon on the actual live blog, do not use the Pages tab in the dashboard.

How to specifically: View your blog, and click the wrench icon located to the bottom right of the PageList widget to access items for reordering and rearranging. (Use the Pages tab as normal for the initial adding of pages or links, and editing of pages.)

« Post Sharing Buttons

Offical Twitter, StumbleUpon, Facebook, and G+ sharing buttons now in place. These buttons are located between  and  of the 'widgets expanded' template code should you like to modify them.

« Additional Updates of Note:

Replaced the previous image-dependent search feature with a new HTML and CSS only search feature, with Template Designer color options
Fixed the header image settings for the Header widget. Adding a header image using the Header widget on the layouts tab is now much more efficient. Options for placing an image behind the title and description, and for using an image instead of the title and description are working, and the option to have description display after the image only requires one additional edit to the template code in order to display correctly, in the case that any editing is necessary at all.

Streamlined design and coding throughout along with subtle changes to (border sizes/colors and what not)

Proggin' on Blogger!

In light of the new threaded comment system and other recent improvements made to the Blogger platform, I have been busy familiarizing myself with the new template code. My existing free Blogger template creations will soon be updated and retrofitted with the new comment system. Several new templates will also make their debut here shortly.

I've been steady Blogger proggin' over the past few weeks. In addition to the template updates, I've been quite busy working on GlitterBurned and the GlitterBurned Blog. GlitterBurned is a showcase gallery of Blogger powered blogs. Gallery news, updates, and articles are shared on the GlitterBurned blog.

Fluid / responsive width content slider on the GlitterBurned Blog.

One thing I am happy with, is the featured content slider I shimmied-up for the GlitterBurned Blog. I created a fluid width slider with on-hover text and clickable-links using CSS and MooTools. I believe it to be relatively cross-browser with the small exception that in IE there is no on-hover text, but linked contents are still clickable.

Also... I have unveiled and added the actual blog aspect to my Blogger hosted portfolio site, Pixel-Vixen. I wanted to keep it simple and uncluttered, so I implemented a "toggle" content menu, that is, it expands and contracts with a click at the user's discretion. As always, Pixel-Vixen is a work-in-progress and changes in the blog layout and design are guaranteed to come. Still, this is the premise; simple without clutter. That is the idea, and that will remain.

In other news? I have been stuck on fonts as well. To be perfectly honest, I am not satisfied with the fonts I have created thus far. There are so many things that I did not anticipate or had not considered. But I have no regrets, I accomplished a goal and have been able to learn from the experience.

There might be a few new fonts to come in the near future as well. Till then, stay tuned and give your life a listen,

The namesake of the series I am creating, Lummoxie harkens a fresh and new perspective with simplicity, style, and functionality.

Top Navigation / PageList Widget

The Page List Widget has been customized to fit the template and comprises the top navigational links. Page links will be automatically added, and other additional links can be added via the pages section of the Blogger dashboard.

Navigation offers "dynamic highlighting" of the current page, i.e. the current page is "highlighted" automatically.

Post Summary Option

No scripts are necessary in using the read more feature on this template, as it utilizes the in-place "jump break" feature in Blogger. Simply add a page break when and if you would like a post to be summarized.

The correct Date Header format must be selected in order for the post date to display correctly. From the Dashboard > Settings > then Language and Formatting. From the "Date Header Format" select "DD Month YYYY" style, (two digit day, name of month, four digit year with no commas) and then select "Save Settings." It has been a while since I published a new free Blogger template, so without further ado, I present Haute Press, the first in a series of templates I have called my Lummoxie themes.

Some extra features of this template include the top menu which utilizes Blogger's new PageList widget, and the post summary feature utilizing Blogger's page-break feature.Another bonus is that this template is "liquid," or "fluid," meaning that it is not fixed-width, it will fit to virtually all screen resolutions.

At this time I am having difficulties with Bloggers post sharing buttons so they are turned off in the template, and it is advised that users have them "turned off" as well. I apologize for this, and I am working on it.

Character & Caricature Vector Illustration

My start in vector illustration began only last year, but it has become one of my favorite new art forms and hobbies. I have particularly enjoyed doing vector cartoon caricatures of people, in what has been called "chibi" formats. I have done illustrations in this style as caricatures of actual people (as in my Mia Zoe illustration), fan arts of existing characters (as in Alice from "Alice in Wonderland,"), and most enjoyably, of original characters created by myself such as my illustrations of my first 'OC,' Laila.

I shared some of my chibi vectors in a post last year, but I had yet to share these illustrations in my blog (except for "Painting the Roses Red," which was featured previously) so I am glad to be sharing these character and caricature illustrations now. Some are done in all vector format (no raster or Photoshop styling) while others have used both vector and raster elements, specific details are given for each illustration. This vector remains my most popular illustration (as far as favorites go) on deviantART, which is why I am showing it here again. This was my very first attempt at such an illustration. It containins both vector and raster elements. I have no idea how she managed to keep her paintbrush so clean after painting all of those roses.

Here is my own personal favorite of my illustrations of my original character, Laila. Here she is emulating Britney Spears in her Circus album art, hence the title of the illustration being a play on the title of Britney's song, "Oops! I Did It Again." This is an all vector illustration, which took me several overs over a course of several days to complete. Some more illustrations of Laila can be seen in this post.

I have a few favorites when it comes to the sites and tools I use to assist me in my Blogger-related pursuits. They might also prove useful to my fellow Blogger enthusiasts, so I have compiled a list of five such favorites with them in mind. Without further ado, here are 5 favorite Blogger resources:

LeBlogger

LeBlogger is written in French, however, I find I am able to understand his articles fairly well with web translation. He (Soufiane, the author) writes the best and correct way to implement something on Blogger, not just how to. He really seems to understand the Blogger platform quite well. I heart LeBlogger.

Blogger Widgets

Blogger Widgets, or Blogger Plugins, is a great resource of reliable Blogger information. The tutorials on using a custom domain on Blogger and name.com have been most helpful to myself personally, invaluable really.

Blogger Tips and Blogger Templates, Abu Farhan

Abu Farhan's blog is a reputable and quality resource for Blogger tutorials and fantastic scripts and other elements for Blogger. Recently I have relied on a modified version of his script to create my Site Archive & Table of Contents.

Spice Up Your Blog

Spice Up Your Blog offers top notch Blogger tutorials, templates and more. Paul (the webmaster) has been very helpful to me with his knowledge and tips on things like SEO and PageRank, which I am eternally grateful and would otherwise be clueless.

StarSunflower Studio is cherished and most helpful to those of us of the 'artsy' persuasion on Blogger. Here you will find all sorts of goodies and tips to beautify your Blogger, and of course, full templates too. In the "Content" field of the new gadget, copy and paste the code shown below. Be sure to replace the pink text TWITTER_ID with of course, your actual Twitter ID. Again, with no @ symbol, just your user-name. Save your new gadget, and view your blog. Your twitter status update or updates should now appear on your blog where you have added the new gadget.

Twitter Sweet - 26 Free Twitter Icons

I really wanted to create a new set of free twitter icons since my last set is no longer available. So I created the 26 free twitter icons in the Twitter Sweet set. These icons are free for use in personal as well as commercial projects. Attribution link not required, however if you were planning on re-distributing these icons you must refer downloads to this page and not directly to the download itself.

The set includes my own rendition of the Twitter bird in two different color schemes with three sizes each, a Twitter "follow me," Twitter "tweet this," and blank button in light and dark shades, four different Twitter "T" logo icons with three sizes each, and a Twitter tweet stream/status display icon in a light and a dark shade. The icons are in PNG format, transparent when necessary, and are in a zip file.

35 Inspiring Beige Colored Web Designs

From blond to banana, web designs in beige and creme live up to conjured definitions making a sweet and soft sight on the eyes. This is a color scheme that gets quite a fair amount of use in the web designs of the present, and doesn't seem a fleeting trend.

I don't predict the future; however, I do see recurring themes and styles in artwork from decades past. Perhaps these lovely websites will exemplify a time period, or perhaps they'll be seen timeless. Either way, they are exemplary examples in yellow beige.

The Old Habits of Nymphont Die Hard

I have been playing around with templates on Blogger for a little while now (Blogger templates specifically since 2009, designing for the web altogether since 1996) but I must admit I have quite enjoyed creating the GlitterBurned Gallery, as well as it's new "companion blog," the GlitterBurned Blog.

In creating these two blogs, I experienced a couple "firsts," of my Blogger blogging experiences. One such Blogger first, was in creating the gallery. This was my first design of a "gallery" style on Blogger, consisting of multiple posts positioned beside one another on the main page of the design, each dominated by an image/photograph. In this case that dominating image, would be a screen capture of the blog which is the subject of the particular post.

Another first, in a long time at least, is the "liquid" design style I have used GlitterBurned's new blog. Now, mind you, this is far from the first liquid layout I have ever created. No, no, I most certainly created my first liquid layout before the year 2000. Nonetheless, it has been years to be honest, years since I have created a new "liquid" layout prior to this.

And by "liquid" what I am referring to is the lack of a fixed width to this layout, (save for the minimum width!) and the design's ability to slim and strech according to the width of the screen.

Doing these "firsts," brings to mind two questions.

Why havent I created a liquid layout for so long?
Why now?

I'll answer them both. One factor in my chosing to create fixed width layouts for so long is, honestly, I didn't have to.

Coding is something that I actually enjoy, thus I do keep abrest of the latest and newest techniques, changes, and so on. In the same token, however; I also keep abrest of issues that pertain to my niche of blogging. And of course, being master of my domain, I am at liberty to make executive decisions regarding what my designs need to support.

Let me explain my motives a little further. I work on an archaic computer with an equally archaic and dismal monitor, and use Windows XP. Not the latest, not by far. There is little past browser shots in my arsenal for cross browser testing.

That said, I knew I could design best for PC users, more specifically, Windows users. If my computer and browser could do it, the majority of fellow Windows users with a relatively recent browser, would have similar capabilities, and likewise an additional (growing) number of Window's users, would have similar capabilities and then some as well. Thus a good number of folks would get an experience close to what I intended them to.

How does this relate to my reasonings behind creating liquid layouts or not? It's with the rational that my computer is sub-standard with an equally second rate quality of web experiences; a fixed width layout befitting a reslution of 1024px or larger was not so much to ask.

Excluding of course the unending assortment of new mobile and hand-held gadgets with to-die-for-web-capabilities, I felt comfortable requiring a minimum of 1024px viewable width for my designs to display correctly, because excluding the aforementioned shiney handheld toys, existing machines uncapable of this width most likely are incapable of an experience anywhere near to the one I intend regardless. They are valued as highly as are all those I design for, but alas, there is nothing more I could do for them.

Another major factor in my fixed width fixation for the past several years, I don't have a widescreen. I don't get to appreciate the aesthetic of liquid layouts too often.

So why now? I would rather ask, why not? I can do it after all. It's good to freshen up, it's only been a few years. And besides, I did set a minimum width, it's not like I've made a mobile layout or anything. XD

Pinstripe Limo Font

Finally, for my blog visitors, I present the font Pinstripe Limo. This is a bold-outline geometric sans serif font I created in 2010, yet another spin-off of my Champagne & Limousines font.

This font is not a complete font family at present, lacking italic and bold styles, but I hope that you enjoy it. This font is well suited for display purposes, titles and headings, and even looks well when used in "all capitals" in such settings.

New Blogger Powered Design Showcase!

I have just launched GlitterBurned, a gallery showcasing Blogger powered designs. All of my visitors and fellow bloggers' are cordially invited to browse the gallery, and of course, to submit their Blogger powered blogs to the gallery if they would like.

The blog is still in it's infancy, but I decided to go ahead with the launch in hopes that I can better craft it to suit the needs of visitors as well as contributors.

Custom Blogger Fonts With Cufon

I have been asked many times how I use my own font LT Oksana, as a custom font throughout this blog as I do. The answer is simple, with Cufón of course! And I am going to share with fellow user's of the Blogger platform just how to use Cufón in your Blogger blog!

Before We Begin...

First things first, for this to work, you will need the following:

A Blogger Blog
A font file that permits Web Embedding. This is very important. Many fonts require the purchase of an additional license if they do permit web embedding. All of my fonts do for instance, for the most part at least. So be sure that you are allowed
A place to host javaScript files. Some that I have heard of are DropBox, Google Code, Fileden, and Ripway

Grab the Cufon Script

If all of those things have been aquired, head on over to the Cufón website, and click the "Download" button (circled in pink in the screen capture image shown below) to get a copy of the main Cufón javaScript you will need. Saving the file depends on your browser, but just be sure it saves with a ".js" extension.

Completing the Generator Form

Directing our attention back to the Cufón website, begin the form by clicking on the browse button under the Heading that reads, "Select the font you'd like to use," to do just that. (Screen capture shown below)

Make sure the checkbox regarding permission to web embed is checked. (As shown in screen capture below)

Proceeding down the form are the options pertaining to the glyphs or characters to be included in your custom font. "Basic Latin" is checked, and you might also want to check the box just below that as well, "Latin-1 Supplement" which should cover some commonly used accent characters. (Depicted in screen capture below)

A section labled, "Security" comes after this on the form. If using a custom domain, it is a good idea to enter your domain in the text box provided, this limits your custom fonts usage to that domain. Otherwise leave this textarea blank/empty. (Shown in screen capture below)

Options for the Performance and Size of the custom font will be next. I recommend using the default input for font scaling, which I believe is 360 units per em. I would however, change the "units allowed for path optimization" to "0" and uncheck the box beside it that reads "Allow path optimization," however this is optional and may not suit your needs.(Shown in screen capture below)

I would also make sure the box next to "Include kerning tables (improves readability but slightly increases file size)" is also checked. It may increase file size, but... if the file is not too large already and the font is well kerned, it might be worth it. It's really a matter of preference or necessity really.

Complete the form by checking the box beside the text reading, "I acknowledge and accept these terms," (above screen capture) and click the "Let's Do This!" button (Shown in screen capture below) to generate your own custom font javaScript file.

Depending on your browser, you will somehow be prompted to save this file. (Shown in screen capture below)

Adding the Code

Now that you have downloaded the Cufón javaScript as well as the script for your custom font, you will need to upload them to your javaScript host and get their public URL's.Insert those URL's where indicated in the code shown below:

Highlighted in green in the code above is the h3 tag. It designates that all occurances of text within an h3 tag are to be replaced with Cufón. I chose to use h3 since in the majority of Blogger templates, h3 tags are used for post-titles. In that case, all post titles will display in the custom font. If you would like or feel capable, add or change this section as desired.

Back up your Blogger template by downloading the current template, then paste the code (edited to replace my dummy text with your actual javaScript URL's) into your Blogger HTML's <head> section, just after ]]></b:skin> (Get to your Blogger HTML via the Blogger Dashboard under the "Design" tab and subcategory "Edit HTML")

Customizing Menu Linkbar

Add your links to the main linkbar simply by clicking the "Design" tab from the Blogger Dashboard, within the "Page Elements" subcategory. From there click on on the widget labeled "Linkbar," to add your links. If you do not want to use the linkbar, simply leave this widget empty.

This menu features "dynamic highlighting" of the current page. If a menu link is the current page, that link in the menu is "highlighted" automatically. As in the demo page, when at the index or home page, the "Home" link is highlighted. Click on any link in the demonstration menu to see the "dynamic highlighting" in action.

Setting Up Calendar-Style Post Date

Have no fear, I promise setting up the post date is easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Formatting. From the "Date Header Format" select "DD Month YYYY" style, (two digit day, name of month, four digit year with no commas) and then select "Save Settings." Be sure that you select the format with no commas, or else it will not display correctly.

Posts published on the same day will display a blank post date because of the calendar style date set-up. At present there is no way around this (that I know of), so remember to select a different date with the "Post Options," if publishing multiple posts on the same day. I have to do this myself with this blog actually.

Additional Details

If you do have access to your own image host, you might want to host the images at your own server. To do so download the images here and replace image URL's in the code with the corresponding URL's at your server.

Images are also now included in the zip download for convenience. Feel free to contact me or leave a comment if you need assistance replacing the images.

Brat Prince Blogger Template

For those of whom might have liked my Brat Princess template were it not so overtly, "girly," I have created the Brat Prince Blogger template, to serve as it's more universal counterpart.

Like it's predecessor, Brat Prince is equipped with special features including the implementation of a smooth-scrolling and auto-fade out "back to top" link utilizing jQuery, as well as the "all CSS speech bubble" detail on the post comment link.

This version of the template also boasts it's lack of images. That's right, this template is 100% image-less, which may make adding your own should you like to do so, all that much easier. Customizing Main Linkbar

Add your links to the main linkbar simply by clicking the "Design" tab from the Blogger Dashboard, within the "Page Elements" subcategory. From there click on on the widget labeled "Linkbar," to add your links. If you do not want to use the linkbar, simply leave this widget empty.

This menu is set up so that tabs will be "highlighted" if they are the current URL. I.E in the demo blog, the "Home" link is highlighted when at the "Home" page.

Smooth Scrolling "Back to Top" Link with Auto Fade

As an additional feature of the template, a "Back to Top" link has been added, that utilizes jQuery to scroll smoothly upwards, and so that it "fades out" when the page is at the top, and fades back into view as the page is scrolled downwards. Check it out in the demo blog!

Comment Link CSS Speech Bubble

Another little extra, was the "all CSS" speech bubble detail given to the post comments link. This will in essence hopefully generate more comments by drawing attention to the post comments.

Brat Princess Blogger Template

My latest free Blogger template, Brat Princess, has been given the royal treatment befitting it's name. Attention was given to even the smallest details, and it also includes some special features not usually found in free templates.

Special features include the implementation of a smooth-scrolling and auto-fade out "back to top" link utilizing jQuery, as well as the "all CSS speech bubble" detail on the post comment link.

Rounded corners are not typically found in my designs and templates because I prefer squared myself, but since the opposite seems to be true as far as what's preferred by the majority, I gave the royal round treatment to this template as well. Virtually all "cornered" aspects of Brat Princess feature a rounded corner.

And of course, font and color options that can be changed via the Blogger Dashboard, from within the "Template Designer," within the "Advanced," subcategory. Enjoy!

Pointe du Lac Blogger Template II

The Pointe du Lac Blogger template has undergone a complete overhaul, cosmetically as well as "under the hood."

(The title "Pointe du Lac," for those who might not be aware, pays homage to a favorite author and novel, derived from Anne Rice's, "Interview with the Vampire.")

I hope others will agree, version 2 of Pointe du Lac improves upon the previous, in my opinion a make-over was necessary. Prominent changes to the template, would be the color scheme; version 2 utilizes a much more "upbeat," palette, and also the typography, which should more universally have a good aesthetic.

Out with the old and in with the new right? I hope you like.

Each link is simply placed within <div></div> tags. You can modify and replace the existing three links, and add up to five more, allowing for a total of eight. I enjoyed making Ultime Notizie, my latest Blogger template design, and I am very happy with how it turned out.

I added some special features to this template, including not one but two optional and customizable linkbars, one of which featuring a no-flicker all CSS image rollover. And also the super fancy blockquotes with a drop cap.

As usual, the fonts and colors of the template may be customized using the Blogger Dashboard's "Template Designer," within the "Advanced," subcategory should you like to add a little pink to the template, or any other color for that matter!

Customizing Linkbars

The top linkbar is labled "Linkbar2" and can be easily customized to include your own links via the "Page Elements" subcategory of the Design tab within the Blogger Dashboard.

The main linkbar (labled simply 'Linkbar') featuring the no-flick all CSS image rollover can be modified the same way. If you do not want to use either linkbar, simply leave the widget empty.

Using Fancy Blockquotes

The blockquotes have been styled to include a drop-cap for the first letter as well as small capitals for the first line. To use this fancy blockquote style, simply add a

at the beggining of your blockquote, at the end place

So the completed HTML for a blockquote would look like this:
