I have to tell you about a new book that is being released tomorrow! It is by Terri Blackstock and many of you may already know her. I loved reading Shadow in Serenity this fall. I have a friend who loves Terri and is going to share her books with me. Isn't that what friends do?

Well let me tell you about 'Downfall'. It is a great quick read but full of twist and turns. I loved the realism of a family dealing with recovery as the focal point to the story. It is hard to have trust once it has been broken down. And during that time of rebuilding many of us tend to jump to conclusions a lil too often. I know that while Dear Hubby was in recovery that we had many a time when he would be doing everything right. But I would still be nervous that it was all going to fall apart. AA helped Dear Hubby. He has been sober for over 5 years now. I am very proud of him. I on the other hand had to learn to trust with time. Learn that his word was good and that his actions were noble. That is just what is going on in Downfall with Emily's mom. And it is very hard to do when someone is plotting to do everything they can to make it all come apart. Even taking revenge through others. This is a good read....one that I am glad to have had in my hands.

Summary: The final book in Terri's Intervention series, DOWNFALL follows Emily Covington, who has turned her life around after a drug addiction, but her family still has trouble trusting her. Though Emily has committed herself to a year-long treatment program and has been sober for almost a year beyond that, even her mother walks on eggshells around her, fearing she'll relapse. After her behavior during her drug years, Emily realizes she has a lot to prove.

When police discover a homemade bomb under Emily's car, and she then learns the wife of one of her friends was murdered that same morning, she knows things are deadly serious.

But who wants Emily dead? And why?

Grandbabes Make Us Happy

It was wonderful to have the grandbabes here this last weekend. Of course Princess Emma was here most of the time too. We love hearing them all giggle while they are either jumping around with the Wii or decorating my porch with the sidewalk chalk. There was plenty of Pink-alicious (a pink colored juice) consumed while we had a baseball game in the backyard. But of course we also snuggled in and watched A Dolphin Tale. It was wonderful if you have not had a chance to see it yet.

On top of all of that there was bedtime stories. We loved reading 'The Cookie Thief' by Francis Gilbert and Ben Quesel after singing Who Took the Cookies from the Cookie Jar. The kiddos all loved singing along. Then we launched into our night time story. Thomas notices that the cookies are missing from cookie jars all over the neighborhood. When everyone is doing all they can to have them watched. Finally Kristina decides to set up a trap to catch the cookie thief. Thomas wants to help but is reluctant to hide behind the couch where it is dark and small. With much prodding Kristina finally gets Thomas to move the couch....and wow, there are the cookies. But who is the Cookie Thief?

We have also been fighting all kinds of sinus problems. Tissues are running very low here. So we also enjoyed Cougar Cub Tales "The Sneezy Wheezy Day" by Sharon Cramer. What a great way to learn that helping each other it makes being under the weather a lil easier to handle. Reading how brother cub isn’t feeling well and his sister and brother cub seek help for his cold. They encounter many silly home remedies. One friend even tells brother cub, “Tickle your nose with the tail of a goose and do it before the next blue moon rise!” they appreciate all of the recommendations help but the final remedy is his sister's love. I know the kiddos were more than willing to help get tissues for Princess Emma after reading our book. The Sneezy Wheezy Day e-book is available as a free download on Amazon through Saturday. Add in the fun of singing along to the Veggie Tales and you can see we had a full weekend. This time we had "If I Sang a Silly Song" and "God Loves You Very Much". Of course College Girl jumped right on in. She loved Veggie Tales as a teen and is having a blast sharing it with her lil sister Princess Emma and her niece and nephew. Larry the Cucumber hosts “The Silly Song Telethon” and counts down the top favorite silly songs of all-time... voted for by thier fans!! My First E-Book

This was my first book for my new e-reader, The Priest and The Peaches by Larry Peterson. Yes, I picked a young adult book to start off with. Why? Well the learning curve of how it all works. Wondering if I would like using the screen and all. It all worked fine and I did not even bop myself in the head once. I know, but, it seems that when I read in bed I get sleepy. Imagine that. And then the books falls on my face....BOP! You know what I mean.

Well here I read of the plight of the Peaches. A family of 5 children (not all under the age of 18) who have lost their parents to deaths door. Now having to learn how to come together so that things are going to work out, the Peaches find solace in their Priest and his positive outlook of life. It is great that they keep getting 'signs' of how their father wanted them to live. By loving each other and their neighbors everything good can happen. The L-Y-N (Love Your Neighbor) theme is all through out this book. Sure enough they have a world of worries to contend with but by allowing trust, love and the hand of God (hey, the Priest knows these things) life finally looks like it will settle down.

I was glad this was a quick read. I think that it would be good for a tween to see that even in the worst of times things can work out. We all have to deal with death at some time in our lives. Sadly these kids have had to deal with it all too much. But they learn how to become self reliant and thankful for the love of others. I am glad there is such a positive message here. Remember that if it was not for the community around us we would not be able to do as much as we do every day. Think about it. Nicole (Tribute Books) did a great job of sharing this newest author and e-book with me. Thanks!

Bacon Apple Pie?

We enjoyed our newest Bacon dessert this weekend. Bacon topped apple pie....really! <----- There is our before photo. But we did learn a lesson. Keep the bacon hanging over the edges. That is how it is suppose to end up. ---->

Duh us! We forgot it would shrink up and be smaller once it was baked. But oh me oh my how good it tasted. I do not want to even imagine the calories. So I guess I need to look for a few lighter alternatives.

Bacon Wrapped Scallops

Ingredients

4 ear(s) corn, husked
4 slice(s) bacon
16 large sea scallops
1/4 teaspoon(s) black pepper
2 medium tomatoes, chopped
2 ripe nectarines, chopped
1/4 cup(s) chopped fresh basil leaves
2 tablespoon(s) lemon juice
1 pinch(s) cayenne (ground red pepper)
1/4 teaspoon(s) salt

Preheat grill on medium-high.
Grill corn 10 minutes or until browned, turning. Meanwhile, on microwave-safe plate, place bacon between paper towels. Microwave on High 1 minute.
Press 4 scallops together, flat sides down, in single layer; wrap with 1 slice bacon. Insert skewer through overlapping ends of bacon, pressing through to other side of scallops. Repeat with remaining scallops and bacon. Sprinkle black pepper on scallops.
Grill, covered, 5 to 7 minutes or until just opaque throughout, turning once.
Cut kernels off cobs and place in large bowl. Stir in tomatoes, nectarines, basil, lemon juice, cayenne, and salt. Serve with scallops.

Well today is my third time to get to try this free writing thingy. With the grandbabes here my mind is not really too clear. But Dear Hubby took them to see the great grandfolks so I could have a lil time with y'all. So I will do my best....bear with me folks.

I love waking up to the purring of Mr. Kitty. As usual he has curled up on my chest this morning. The sun light is coming in all golden making his own yellow tinged fur to shine. While I am waking and my breathing is changing his does too. A twitch of an ear and flick of whiskers as he peeks through a slanted eye at me. He knows I am awake. When I try to move my hand his own paw moves on top of it, telling me not to hurry. There is plenty of time to get moving. This is a nice time of day to take stock in my life. Pretty good if you ask me but of course I am biased. But I have a roof over my head and a warm bed under me. Lucky to know there is a husband who adores me and family that supports my thoughts and actions. Pets that depend on me, chores to keep me busy and enough free time to do what I wish when I care to. Honestly what would really be needed past those things. I am fed, cared for, loved and have those to love. Life is really good. I know it is....why Mr. Kitty reminds me of it every morning.

A Nice Party

We had a very NICE party with our friends. I can tell you about it, but I can't show you. Why? Well my cheap camera ate all of my photos. YEAH RIGHT! Honestly, it was not the dog ate my homework kinda thing at all. I am so bummed out that I lost the photos. Dang electronics!

You see House Party helped me host a Walgreens NICE party. They were sharing with us about the store brand products that are all 100% guaranteed. We centered our party around our game night (yet this time it was played in the afternoon). Knowing how much the snacks would be appreciated with everyone it was a perfect fit. The Other Mom had made us some really cool snack bowls too from old records. I loved that!

I am going to give you a list of all the goodies and tell you the best of the best!

Time to Play!

Hey folks...forgive me but life is busy for me this weekend. Why? Well the GRANDBABES are here for a visit. So as a good Nonnie I must play. So here is a quick update.

And here is the bedtime story from last night. Sadly I am nursing a bad cold so reading is out for me. Thank goodness Vanessa Williams agreed to read for us. She is willing to read for your babes too! How? Well she is on CD reading Bad Kitty by Nick Bruel. It sure did save me since I was really down and out last night. It was hard when kitty was told that her favorite foods were all gone and that all that was available was asparagus and beets and cauliflower and dill and lots and lots of other vegetables kitty did not like. The she became a very bad kitty indeed.

Kitty…Ate the homework…Bit Grandma…Clawed the curtains…Damaged the dishes…BAD KITTY!

So her owner went to the grocery store and bought her anchovies… buffalo burrito…chicken Cheesecake. All of kitty's favorites.

Thankfully kitty then apologized to grandma…cleaned her cat box…and all was well. Well until the new puppy arrived!

The Grandbabes enjoyed the story, bright pictures and was glad to have it 'read' to them even if Nonnie could not do it. I liked the story but was not happy that kitty was bribed with her favorites in order to mind. I would have preferred for her to learn to eat her veggies....even if she did not like them the best. I thank McMillian for sending me this book and CD set. It was a life saver last night!

Oh and if you did not know it....it is Girl Scout cookie time. Find yourself a girl scout to stock up on your favorites. Come on you know you can not live with out the Thin Mints and the Samoas!

And if your addicted to chocolate as bad as I am then Kelloggs has done you in. They just released Krave.....the chocolate pocket cereal...or better yet the chocolate pocket encased in chocolate crisp! No I did not get any free cookies or cereal.....I wish. But I thought I would let you know what is next for that late night indulgence.

Today my brain is just all bumfuzzled. My thinking is a lil haywired. So I figure that my blog will be that way today. So bear with me. If is seems things are going a lil this way and that way....well guess what...I am dizzy.

Apparently I did not have my fill this morning. Only one cup and that is certainly not going to make me shake. Heck it will not even clear the fuzz out of my cerebrum. And now I am finally having a Diet Coke but it is hours after having that lone cup of java.

I am absolutely sure that I am in need of some red heels. Weather I have a place to wear them is not even in the picture. I just need, yes need, some sort of pop to my life.

Dr. Suess always hits things right on the nose even if it is in a round about way of reading. Thank goodness my Dear Hubby has the right kinda weird for me. I am thankful he gets me, especially when others may not understand it at all.

Do you remember the craze of Build-A-Bear? Yeah we had a particular dressed up poodle at our house with the grandbabes this summer. Well if your not into the larger toys that seem to cost quite a bit, then look at the fun packs that are now available. Oh and sorry to burst your bubble but I had a major boo-boo. I was excited to listen to Michael Eliran as a new voice in the crowd. Granted a young voice at only 14 but I thought it would be an interesting one. Sadly I was in the wrong. Sure he wrote his own lyrics and music and played the instruments. And I do sense some talent in those areas. It is just that his voice is not there yet. Maybe as he grows and it matures then everything will come together. You may not agree. But you can check it out yourself if you want. I don't think I wrong this time though.

I discovered that I have been dehydrated for some time now. Really, how odd is that. But it seems I have a hard time drinking....well not drinking but taking in liquids. My coffee in the morning and then waiting til late evening for another drink is not really good for me. Who would have guessed it? I just have a hard time putting in liquids. So I have to make sure I do drink during the day. Yes water is great for me....alas our all you can drink unlimited during a drought (cough cough) lake water has a lil to be desired. So instead I have been turning on to Cranberry Naturals by Old Orchard. Helps me out in many ways. Besides tasting yummy is does not have artificial colors, flavor s or preservatives. It has 40% less sugar than most brands and is only 70 calories in a serving. Sure beats Diet Coke all to heck. I told you I was going to cut that out remember on my 20 for 12. So here is my replacement. Good for me, great tasting and healthy to boot. You want some? Well on facebook they have coupons that are BOGO. They also have coupons online that you can download.

What does this mean? Well that someone sent me a CD, then another a toy and yet another sent me some juice and coupons. Does this sway my opinion. Apparently not...look at my thought on the CD. About the juice. Well I do need it...it is appreciated...and more so....I really loved the taste and it could not have come at a better time for me. Yeah that is how it works in blogland. You win some...you lose some....and others you just roll with the flow with. Sorta like today's post.

Deacons or Deaconess

Image via WikipediaDo you go to church every week? If so do you hold a position in the church? Teach the children? Work in the nursery? Help with greetings or bible study or sing in the choir? I know that in our community the ladies of the churches are a force to be reckoned with. This is the back bone of the work force. All the meals created come from them. Helping to set up and prepare for visiting guest, the women will be there. Funerals, weddings or new members....ladies step up to the plate. We have ladies who play the piano, organ, record the sermons, run the office and work as secretary.

Now with all of this said and done, none of these ladies hold an office. They are not the decision makers. So just what will happen if we had "The Resignation of Eve"? Jim Henderson talked to ladies all over the country and came to the conclusion that many feel they are overworked and undervalued in the church. It is leading to many of them leaving the ranks of worker bees and some even walking away from organized churches all together.

Here we have a field research with George Barna on what these ladies have to tell. How they are responding to the churches not supporting all of their hard work and dedication. I know we are to give and do for our faith. But it is hard to continue to do so when your not noticed. It is not t he pat on the back or atta 'girl' they are looking for. Instead the ability to help their churches grow in the community. To have a say in the matter of church business. And no matter how we look at it, religion is also a business. It has to be able to pay the bills just like anyone else.

So just what do you think would happen if all of these hard working ladies decided to not be the back bone? Would the church be able to hold up? Would the men give more power to the ladies? How could it effect change all the way around?

I was at Walgreens the other day and purchased some of their store brand of NICE products. The prices were low and seemed like it would be a good deal. Also they have the Redbox out front for movies. Sure made it convenient for my shopping trip. As a matter of fact Walgreens has always tried to make things easy on their customers. Now they are having to do one more step with the Walgreens and Express Script program.

I found out that for the past year, Walgreens has negotiated with Express Scripts for a new contract to continue as part of its pharmacy provider network. Sadly those negotiations were unsuccessful, and the contract expired on Dec. 31. Walgreens is no longer part of Express Scripts’ pharmacy provider network as of Jan. 1, 2012. This includes all Walgreens pharmacies nationwide and Duane Reade pharmacies in the New York City area. Walgreens offered to hold rates for a new contract flat and did not seek an increase in rates. Express Scripts itself has stated that clients will not see any significant savings from excluding Walgreens from its network. One of Express Scripts’ clients is Tricare, which is the health and prescription drug program for America’s military service men and women. Walgreens took the unprecedented step of offering Express Scripts an ironclad guarantee that Walgreens prices would match or beat the average costs per adjusted prescription of all other pharmacies in the Tricare network.

Many patients under an Express Scripts plan have used Walgreens pharmacies for years and have a personal relationship with their Walgreens pharmacist. In an effort to minimize their disruption and inconvenience, Walgreens unveiled a comprehensive national effort to make this transition as smooth as possible and is doing all it can to help patients continue to use Walgreens when possible. Among the steps created to help is the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club. An individual can join during a special January promotion for only $5, or $10 for a family membership, and receive savings on more than 8,000 brand name and all generic medications. More than 400 generics are available with a three-month supply for less than $1 a week. Regular annual membership is $20 for an individual and $35 for a family. This program will keep customers at the pharmacy they know and trust. And stops the middle made in the coverage programs. Many customers will be happy to have this offered to them.

Those Who Were Here Before Us

Have I told you about the pin lady? You see our home is 97 years old. And we the second family to live here. The original owners built the home and lived here til the end of their lives. I was told that the wife was very good at making their clothes. Thus the Pin Lady was born.

You see since we first moved in here over 5 years ago we have found all kinds of pins in all sorts of areas. Big needles that would be used for upholstery. Rusted needles that look years and years old. Lil pins that would catch your bare foot but are always seen in the nick of time. Safety pins, straight pins, sewing pins, and ever tacks. No one has ever been hurt by one but they sure do surprise us all the time.

Once Granny M had her large blue pin cushion go missing. We searched high and low for it for days on end. Finally we gave up and told the Pin Lady to please give it back. Sure enough that night while College Girl was sitting in the living room the pin cushion showed back up. Right in the middle of the floor. WOW! So you can see we do believe that a home carries on the personality of those who lived here before.

Well that is what drew me to read "A Sound Among the Trees" by Susan Meissner. You see Susannah Page lived in Holly Oak during the Civil War. Rumors said she was a spy. Now here great granddaughter, Adelaide, owns Holly Oak. Even though others feel the homestead is occupied by its previous owner, Adelaide does not believe any such thing. And so the story grows. Is the sound in the trees from the winds blowing up or those who lived there before walking among them?

This was a good book with a rich background of Virginia and the time frame of the 1800's. I especially enjoyed the letters at the end of the book. You may want to check it out yourself. I have to tell Blogging for Books thank you for sending me this one. It was enjoyable to lay in bed nightly and read til I was tired. My favorite way to go to sleep.

Dropping our Guard

Today is Saturday. So it is another free writing day for me. Now I am not sure ever what I will write. I am just going along with the flow of whatever is inside of me at that time. It may not be any good either. Just saying. I am working more on an experiment to see if I have any talent at all. Please comment what you honestly think. It will be greatly appreciated!

The lil pony was in the corner of the pasture again today. It seems he is always there. Waiting. Thinking. Wondering if he will ever get out of the padlock there. So hopeful.

I know that the cattle guard that crosses the drive out keeps the pony inside. With the fence line coming right up to it on each side. Those bars across the ditch is all it takes to keep him inside. He does not realize that he could easily jump over it. All the pony sees is the depth of the ditch. It keeps him fearful. Just a hole in the ground and the pipe stripped over it is all it is.

Is this how our own fears work? Do we see a simple obstacle and think we could never safely cross over? Never taking the chance of making a leap from one train of thought to another. If we were able to look at the problem from another view point. To see that it is only a guard, a few pipes over a hole, that keep us inside the fence. Freedom is waiting on the other side. If we were to back up...snort at the issue...and then run with all of our might. Leaping at the edge. And over we could soar. Over the stop. Landing into a new life, a new view, a new way of looking at our opportunities.

Lucky Day

Good day everyone! Gosh today has been really nice. The sun is shining and I am loving the efficiency that has been all around me today. I was able to get the dishes washed, laundry finished, coffee and hot tea made, bed made, litter box emptied, trash out, dog toys picked up and dog yard cleaned...all while Dear Hubby was dressing for work. Now either he is really slow or I was a lil cosmo! Honestly all that was left to do was sweep and mop once I returned from taking Dear Hubby to work.

So once that was done it, there was plenty of time to have a cup of coffee, read the newspaper and start playing cards with our morning coffee clutch. Not too bad of a way to start the day. Oh and Other Mother brought homemade bacon bisquits too! So it was a great addition to coffee and games. And we even won!

It Is Time For ME!

I posted my 20 for 12 the other day. Today I was looking over that list again. Do you know what I missed?

ME!

Yes, I totally missed out on making time for me as a goal. Did you do that one this year? Do you need to?

Well it seems I am just like every other woman on this planet and I forget to make my time important. It runs sorta like this.

Any where from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. I wake up. Try to be very quiet so every one else can sleep. This is online time or reading time. But not up and moving around the house time.

5 a.m. to 8 a.m. is when I help get Dear Hubby ready and out the door. Get hot tea for Granny M. Brew two pots of coffee for the morning Coffee Clutch. Do any dishes from the night before, sweep and mop, feed the pets, put the dogs outside for the morning, make the bed and start laundry.

8 a.m. til 10 a.m is usually spent with our daily Coffee Clutch. May eat a bit, for sure drink our lovely java and almost always play games. Let the animals in and out again.

10 a.m. til 12 p.m. I finish off the laundry and put it up, make lunch for Dear Hubby and Granny M, clean the dog yard, let the dogs in for a bit, gather mail and organize it, pick a room to deep clean of dusting, polishing furniture and washing windows. Let the animals in and out again.

12 p.m. til 1 p.m. LUNCH!

1 p.m. til 4 p.m. Crazed Mind. Blog, catch up on email, answer request for reviews, follow up with facebook and twitter. Also pay any bills, do my email and snail mail for friends and family.

4 p.m. til 5 p.m. Fix dinner, normally all from scratch. I like it that way and so does my family. Not to often with the quick meals around here. Let the pets in and out again.

5 p.m. til 9 p.m. Dinner, time with Dear Hubby, play games on Wii with family, play cards with family or watch TV with family. Yes....my evening are all for the family. Our time.

9 p.m. Let animals out and in again. I get ready for bed and lay down with a book. I always read before bed.

Now my day is not taxing at all. I like the way it flows. But I do not make time for just me in there. I am doing for my family or for my blog or for the pets....all the time. So why not a bit of time every day for me. Where I can do my bubble baths or paint my toe nails or dance wildly in the living room. What ever makes me happy for 30 minutes or an hour. Would that be so bad? No!

Okay....so how do I instill this goal. Well you know me. I of course have a book to help me learn a new habit that will make me a happier lady. "A Princess and Her Garden" is a guide and journal that will help me learn how to stop putting every one and every thing else first. I can become the Queen of Myself instead of the Princess for Other People. It is written like a fable to help share the support of setting boundaries and learning how to include myself in my thoughts and actions. The journal is a wonderful addition to the story.

The guided Journal has four sections:

THEN: How and why you learned to care for the gardens of other people in the past.
THE IN-BETWEEN: Focusing on the way in which you left your childhood, or a particular phase of your life.
NOW: Taking a good look at the present and deciding what you want to change in order to take charge of your life today.
FROM NOW ON: Planning and affirming your approach to make sure that your garden continues to be well cared for and protected the rest of your life.

New Year, Healthier Family

Granny M has been coughing for a week now. It is horrid to hear her in the next room. I am sure she is in pain. I asked if I could help. She has had hot tea, peppermint candy and she refuses over the counter meds. She is afraid of how they will interact with her other meds. Well I know that she will not go to the doctor unless I drag here kicking the whole way. So we are going to finally get rid of that cough. This time I am doing it her way. Snap! I Can Think Again

This last week was great. But busy. The holidays are done, Christmas is all packed up, guest have returned home. Time to breath....right? Nope! It seems that now is time to get everything back on track. And that can be just as hard as it was setting up the holidays. College Girl was my main helper of course. We laughed as time and time again we would forget something. Having to go back and take one more thing to storage....again! I was beginning to feel like I had caught her ADD.

Of course that is not possible but we were sluggish in our thinking. Then, I remembered, that I had two cans of Nawgan in the fridge. You have some there too, right? No? You have not heard of Nawgan? Well it is a new drink that helps increase your memory and thinking skills. Pretty cool! Better than all those energy drinks that just hype you up on sugar and caffeine. As a matter of fact mine was sugar free at that! So we opened them up and took a break. About an hour later we knew we had to get back to work. I am not always too sure on how things work. Take A Hike

Did you overindulge like most of us during the holidays? I set a New Year Resolution to lose weight and get in shape? I know it is my all the time resolution. I have tried diet plans before only to find myself back to my old eating habits? How do you keep your waistline in check when you overeat? Take A Hike! So says outdoor enthusiast extraordinaire and author Jeff Alt. I just finished reading 'A Walk for Sunshine' and watched the DVD this weekend with Dear Hubby. I was hoping this would help motivate both of us to get up and get out. We need to keep our bodies not only in shape (yes Dear Hubby says round is a shape...but not one I like) but keep our joints and muscles in good working order. That comes from use only!

Jeff Alt’s “Overeat and Lose Weight Plan” is a combination of walking, eating and exerting more calories than you consume. His method will prepare you to enjoy those moments of overindulgence; guilt free. He doesn’t endorse overeating unhealthy foods but he knows from his own habits how hard it ease to resist eating the food you love the most. Most really good food seems to come with a price tag of high calories, fat, and sugar. Jeff is an avid hiker. In addition to walking the 2,160-mile Appalachian Trail, he also walked the 218-mile John Muir Trail with his wife, and trekked across a 50-mile path of Ireland with his wife, young daughter, and extended family. He and his wife emerged from the church doors on their wedding day wearing backpacks, and his son was taken on his first hike at 8 weeks. Now that is a serious hiker. I know that hiking is a great exercise but we also have to build up to those miles. So start off by going for a walk. Around the block, through the park, at the high school track, where ever you like. Just start by taking the time to put on foot in front of the other.

Alt’s method is a simple three step plan:

Step One: Develop a walking routine. At least five days a week, take a hike around the neighborhood, park, beach, or nearby trail.

Make this a family or social event. Routines are easy to stick to when they are established and a walk with family and friends will get everyone away from the distracters of the indoors (TV, computer, etc.) and allow some bonding time with each other. Kids need to get up and move around more than ever with more and more time spent in front of the computer or on the couch playing video games.
Outfit everyone in comfortable walking shoes or trail shoes.
Be sure to wear the right clothing (NO cotton, dress in layers, and dress for the weather).
Save money and stop driving everywhere. If your like most of us we hop in the car when it is just a mile down the road to get what we need. Walk to the grocery store. Walk to your local diner for dinner and back. Walk to the library. Make walking and hiking as routine as brushing your teeth.
If you’re going for more than a walk around the neighborhood, bring along food and water. An adult needs at least two quarts of water per day. Pack enough snacks for everyone. I know that carrying water bottles in each hand also works as a lil arm weight.
Consult with experts (park rangers) and research (websites, local outfitters) before undertaking new parks & trails. Attend local slide shows or lectures (outfitters/libraries/bookstores) every chance you get.
Before you take a major hike you should brush up on safety precautions (first aid, signs & symptoms of hypothermia, how to use a compass, etc.). Keep matches and lighters dry and in a safe place. Know how to start a fire to keep warm. If you do get lost, make yourself as visible as possible. Place a bright item (e.g. item of clothing or gear) in the open. Make distress signals and make noise. If you brought a cell phone, check periodically to see if it works. Leave a copy of your itinerary with a friend or family member.

Let the youngest child or slowest walker lead. This helps you focus on what their interested in and will prevent you from leaving them in your dust. If you are worried about them taking off and leaving you then hold their hand.
Bring the outdoors inside. Take lots of pictures of the kids and places you go. Make posters for the family and for Christmas cards. Get magazines, videos, and artwork of those places you want to go. Rent movies about faraway places. Use the Internet together to look at maps, and photographs of the wildlife, environments, and spectacular scenery you will be visiting someday.
Go high tech. Bring on the gadgetry! Turn your computer game nerds on to the adventure technology. (e.g. GPS, pedometers headlamp flashlights, geocaching) and teach them all about how these incredible devices are being used for fun, like scavenger hiking in the Shenandoah & Great Smoky Mtn Ntl. Parks.
Take the kids to a local orienteering course and learn how to use GPS & compass together.
Use your local walks to train for a bigger adventure to a distant park.
Involve everyone in your family; especially the kids, in planning out all trips and adventures. Older children can use the computer to research your destination or sport. (all national parks and most other destinations have websites chock full of facts & info., maps, wildlife).
Let the kids (especially teens) bring along a friend. Get permission from parents and make it a club adventure.

Step Three: Eat!

Use an online calorie intake and calories burned calculator to figure out how many calories you typically consume each day, then figure out the distance you would have to hike to burn those calories off. Any search engine will pull up lots of these calculators.

The pedometer and trail maps will help you determine if you’ve covered enough distance to burn the necessary calories.

Eat a daily healthy balanced meal. Including fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Consult with a dietician for help. So, when you do go off the reservation and splurge on junk food, you have a normal eating routine to snap back to.

OMG Scared

OH MY GOODNESS! I had the biggest scare ever this weekend. My heart was pounding. I was doing all I could to fight back tears. Not knowing if there was anything I could do to get things back to normal. Anxiety filled me yet I held it all together and tried like crazy to just believe everything was going to be alright. And now it is.

So what happened? Well you may have noticed. I know Aunt Rene noticed it. As a matter of fact she is the one who brought it to my attention. Google locked down all my accounts. I could not get to my blog at all! It was gone. 3 years of hard work and over 380 friends that I would not know how to track down. Terrified me to no end. Now I am thinking I need to get my own site. And while doing so see what I can do to move everything with me? I do not know how all of that works but there must be a way. It this was all gone and I could never get it back, I do not know what I would do.

You never really think about it. But you come on daily and talk, visit, share and know that your friends are there with you. The day you come on and the door is locked. You do not have a key anymore. And no one will answer when you knocking at the door. It is scary to think you may have lost it all. The heck of it is I still do not know why it happened either.

Well I am back and if you do not mind I am going to post date a blog for yesterday. It was the one day I missed. I could not help it. So is that cheating on my 365 days of blogging? If I could not get into blogger than was it my fault. I am going to say no. And friends thank you all for being here. I missed you more than you know. Even for a day!

Day Dream Believer

Okay bear with me folks. This is something new that I am trying out. If you like it tell me. If you don't tell me. But for my weekend post I would like to do some 'free' writing. Just some creative writing that is inside of me. And have a place to put it and get a lil feed back. I do not promise it to be good. I do not promise it to be of your taste. But I do promise it has been inside of me for years and trying to get out.

So here we go!

My eyes opened up. Fear had clutched me. Everything was dark. I remembered to take a breath. Ahhh. Okay I am in bed. It is okay. Yes, that was just a dream. One that had me scared to move. But it is not real. Not anymore. I know I should get up, get my day started. Work on normalcy so it will all fade away. Forget what really happened to have these dreams attack me. At the same time I want to lay here and try to rest just a lil bit more. Breath in and out. Let go of the fear. Know I am safe, sound, whole. I made it through.

He can not attack me again. He is not even the same man. Age has softened him, thank goodness. And the beast that held his grip for so long has left. Did it hurt? Oh so badly, took over my whole childhood. Was it horrid? Enough to make me detach from myself to get through it all. But did it kill me? No, it did not. I am strong and wise from the whole event. And I learned how to do the most important thing ever. I learned how to forgive with my whole being. That is what brought me peace. What keeps me whole. That one act took years to learn. To fully let go of anger. And to love once again.

I have not forgotten what has happened. My dreams would never allow me to anyway. I make sure to stay safe now. But I have a better life from all the pain. They say a fire makes iron stronger. Well the fire of that life made me stronger. It made me know myself better than anyone could. The hurt left scars inside. But the life I have now filled with acceptance, kindness and true desire to help is worth the scars. I wish it had never happened but since it did, I am glad that it made me ready and open to help others.

Yeah the dream had me going. But it is just a dream. Just a fleeting memory. The past, way back there somewhere. Time to get up, get moving, start my day. Coffee to be made. Dishes to do. Laundry to fold. The usual day to day life. Yes time to start smiling again.

These are the lyrics to The Pie Song from the movie Michael. I loved that song sung so easy by Addie Macdowell. And I love pie. Especially good pie crust. This last week we visited our middle daughter in Waco when returning the grandbabes. Now she has the in with pies. And she sent us home with 1 apple pie, 1 cherry pie and 7 apricot pies. WOW! Add that to the 2 sweet potato pies that our youngest daughter's beau made. We have an abundance of pies. Oh wait! There are two frozen cream pies in the freezer too! Well those can wait for another day.

So what did we do with the 11 pies? Well we had pie for breakfast one day. Okay, not the best solution but we loved it. We sent pies with Granny M to the local hangout to share with the coffee drinkers. They loved that. One went to work with Dear Hubby for the guys to munch on. Also one across the street to Nessa. The Other Mother and Princess Emma and Poppi joined in on the eating of pie too! We put 2 in the freezer also. But there is still pie here to be eaten. So since I am house sitting this weekend and will not be here. Just use the back door to come in and help yourself. Because I promise you, we like pie but me oh my....we have had enough!

I have a lil credit built up to where I can treat myself (and Dear Hubby) to something a lil special. And since it is not something I get to do too often I wanted to try a lil sexy outfit. But I need your thoughts on what to get. I want something that looks good on my plus size body yet has a lil flair to it. Not all out there in your face kinda thing ya' know.

I was looking over at EdenFantasys because they have a 70% off sale on lots of items. And lingerie is on the list. Also I liked that when I looked at an outfit for a plus size gal it was on a PLUS SIZE GAL! (Don't you hate it to see it on a skinny mini when it is targeting us full figure gals?) Anyway here are some I was checking out. Tell me what you think would be a good idea?

This long all Red Moonlight Magic number had the sex appeal for my full figure without showing it all off. I liked that there was a lil skin showing but in modest bits. Lace is always nice especially when it is not completely see through. At only $25.99 (that I have credit to cover it so no cost to me at all!) it is also a pretty modest price don't you think?

Next I was happy to see pink...my signature color of course. It is called Wild in Ibiza! Also listed as a dress but I think I would need leggings if it was worn anywhere at all. I do not think I could get away with anything that short. But at home fixing Dear Hubby a nice dinner, then, maybe? Could see myself serving in this one. It is a lil more at $45.99 but still I have the credit to cover it too.

And last on the list is a lil costume. I like the lil ruffle tap shorts under it especially. Has that flair while also providing coverage. Plus size gals have to keep it in mind that even though there men do love them just the way they are, we still have to dress up the goods from time to time. The black and pink is also appealing to me. Sorta like a dressed up ol west saloon gal in this Bow Bustier with a price tag of $50.39 on sale. I would have to get the Garter Ruffle Panties seperate and that might be a lil harder for the plus size gal to find. But there is a set for $16.49. So this would be almost $67.00 for the outfit.

Well? What do you think? Which would you pick? #1 in Red, #2 in Pink or #3 in Black? Help me out. I want it here by Valentine's Day.
