How To Enable Official Dark Mode In Windows 10

The easy and simple option to enable Dark Mode in Windows 10 is one of biggest changes in Windows 10 personalization settings since its launch. This feature was rolled out in the latest Preview Build 14316 along with other features like the ability to port Ubuntu binaries in Windows 10.

Microsoft’s latest Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14316 has brought the biggest set of features to Windows 10 operating system. This build is being seen as a preview of the upcoming Windows 10 Anniversary aka Redstone Update.

The 14316 build brought numerous features like Bash on Ubuntu on Windows 10, early extension support in Microsoft Edge, and my favorite — the Dark Mode in Windows 10.
Earlier, Windows 10 tweakers enabled this hidden setting using Registry Hack. But, the latest Windows update has made it possible to do the same without any hassle.
The Windows 10 Dark Mode reminds me of the dark theme in PDF readers that make it easier to read at night. Microsoft aims to provide the same functionality to make using Windows 10 easier at night. In this post, I’ll show you how to enable and disable official Dark Mode in Windows 10.

How To Enable Official Dark Mode In Windows 10?

Before looking for the suitable settings to enable the official Dark Mode in Windows 10, make sure that you are running Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14316.
If this build is missing from your PC, you need to update your Windows 10 installation. This could be done by joining the Fast Ring and checking for updates. You can find the steps regarding this in our how to use Bash on Ubuntu on Windows 10 article.

Now, I’ll assume that you are running the latest Windows 10 version and ask you to open Settings on your Windows 10 PC.
Now, you need to head to Personalization option and look for Colors.
Here you’ll notice a Choose your mode option.
Under this option, select Dark to enable the Dark Mode.

To turn off Dark Mode in Windows 10, you need to follow the same steps and choose Light option under the Choose your mode option.
That’s it, you are good to go. This feature will be enabled in most Universal Windows Platform apps and change their color scheme to darker options. Note that some apps might not respond to this setting as they might have their own custom themes.
This feature to enable Dark Mode in Windows 10 was one of the most requested features in users feedbacks. Let’s hope Microsoft continues to listen to its community and brings more features to Windows 10.

According to a news report, Facebook is testing new ways to allow the individual users to earn money from their posts. It indicates how aggressively Facebook is moving ahead to become a more dominant force in real-time sharing.

Facebook is now looking for new ways to make monetization of different aspects of Facebook a priority and become the biggest force in the tech world. Recently, the company allowed all publishers to use the Instant Articles platform and show ads to the readers.

Requirements :

1. Wireshark Network Analyzer (wireshark.org)

Step 1: Start Wireshark and capture traffic

In Kali Linux you can start Wireshark by going to

Application > Kali Linux > Top 10 Security Tools > Wireshark

In Wireshark go to Capture > Interface and tick the interface that applies to you. In my case, I am using a Wireless USB card, so I’ve selected wlan0.

Ideally you could just press Start button here and Wireshark will start capturing traffic. In case you missed this, you can always capture traffic by going back to Capture > Interface > Start

Step 2: Filter captured traffic for POST data

At this point Wireshark is listening to all network traffic and capturing them. I opened a browser and signed in a website using my username and password. When the authentication process was complete and I was logged in, I went back and stopped the capture in Wireshark.

when wee type in your username, password and press the Login button, it generates a a POST method (in short – you’re sending data to the remote server).

To filter all traffic and locate POST data, type in the following in the filter section

http.request.method == “POST”

Step 3: Analyze POST data for username and password

Now right click on that line and select Follow TCP Steam

This will open a new Window that contains something like this:

Many smartphone makers including Apple swear by fingerprint technology as ultimate protection against hackers. A sensor manufacturer from China has demonstrated just how easy it is to fool a smartphone fingerprint sensor. The Chinese start-up used the MWC 2016 platform to demonstrate that it could unlock an Apple iPhone via the fingerprint sensor using Play-Doh.

President of mobile security firm Vkansee, Jason Chaikin, created a mold of his fingerprint. He then took the modeling clay Play-Doh, pressed it on to the mold and created a replica. Chaikin touched the Play-Doh on an iPhone’s fingerprint scanner and the device easily gave Chaikin access.

The hack demonstrated by Chaikin would not be practical for cyber criminals but it demonstrates how easily little ingenuity could trick the sensors. Chaikin demonstration also highlights the lack of sophistication in today’s biometric solutions, not just on iPhones, but on other smartphones and devices too.

Making a shift from paper towards digitisation and technology, Moleskine announced a new electronic pen and paper notebook combination called the Smart Writing Set. The Smart Writing Set includes a “new generation” of Moleskine Paper Tablet and a Pen+. Using this, artists can promptly view what they sketch or illustrate on the Paper Tablet right on their smartphones, tablets or PCs. To view the sketch on the screen they would have to install a companion Moleskine Notes app.

The Moleskine Pen+ comes with an inbuilt infrared camera and technology provided by Neolab that records your movements on paper and sends them to the accompanying mobile app via Bluetooth. Notes can be beamed to the app in real time or up to 1,000 pages of data can be stored inside the pen for later transfer. It can save files in Google Drive, Evernote, or in Adobe’s software suite. The system even allows for editing of notes on physical paper. Users can even share what they draw on social media handles.

Accompanying the Pen+ is a new Moleskine notebook, which the company refers to as the Paper Tablet. The Paper Tablet holds the paper with an invisible grid. Scientists Store Digital Images In DNA And Retrieve Them Effortlessly

Researchers find a method to store digital images in DNA and retrieve them easily

Researchers from the University of Washington and Microsoft are developing one of the first complete systems to store digital data in DNA, with the random-access readability and error correction protocols that would be required for real-world applications. In this new study, the researchers used a new method that can actually shrink the space needed to store digital data.

Luis Ceze, one of the researchers, explains in a press release:

“Life has produced this fantastic molecule called DNA that efficiently stores all kinds of information about your genes and how a living system works — it’s very, very compact and very durable. We’re essentially repurposing it to store digital data — pictures, videos, documents — in a manageable way for hundreds or thousands of years.”

In this case, the researchers developed an approach to convert zeroes and ones that make up a digital file using the four basic building blocks of DNA – adenine, guanine, cytosine and thymine. The “letters” of DNA code — adenine, thymine, cytosine and guanine, or A-T-C-G — stood in for the 1’s and 0’s of a computer’s binary code. They were also able to reverse this process to retrieve the correct sequences from a larger pool of DNA and reconstruct the images without losing any data.

That’s done using Huffman coding, a fairly normal approach for lossless data compression. You can read more detail about it in the researchers’ paper.

“How you go from ones and zeroes to As, Gs, Cs, and Ts really matters because if you use a smart approach, you can make it very dense and you don’t get a lot of errors,” said Georg Seelig, co-author of the new study. “If you do it wrong, you get a lot of mistakes.”

The researchers in this case can axe the digital data into pieces and then store it by producing a massive amount of tiny DNA molecules, which can then be dehydrated and preserved for long-term storage.

Ceze and his team has shown that they can successfully encode and then retrieve them, but they suggest that they can go much further, storing video, audio and any other kind of digital file. In a press release, they claim that it could be possible to “shrink the space needed to store digital data that today would fill a Walmart supercenter down to the size of a sugar cube.”

The findings could be huge when it comes to storing vast amounts of information for the future. This is especially important as the amount of information increases over time.

The study was presented at this year’s ACM International Conference on Architectural Support for Programming Languages and Operating Systems or ASPLOS.

How Apple Got Slapped For Making Fun Of People Using Older Windows PCs

Here is how to turn off notifications for ‘Live Videos’ in Facebook timeline

Earlier this year, Facebook had opened up its Live Video feature to all users. Since then, the social media giant witnessed a sharp increase in live streaming. However, some of the users reported problems of continuously being bugged by notifications of live streaming videos by Pages they or friends have “Liked”.

As a result, Facebook has announced it will soon roll out a feature that lets a user turn off Live Video notifications. According to Facebook, the users will not be flooded with the alerts by default for much longer as the ability to turn off Live Video notifications is on the way “soon”, reported Engadget.

“We have heard from people that they don’t want to miss live videos from the people or Pages they care about, so we may send a notification if someone you’ve recently interacted with is going live, in case you want to tune in,” a Facebook spokesperson was quoted as saying.

“However, we know people want more control over the live notifications they receive, so we’re working on improving this experience. We are starting to roll out a new setting that lets people turn off all live notifications, through their Notifications settings, that will be available to all people soon,” the spokesperson added.

So, the next time you get a live notification, click the upside-down caret in the top-right corner of the notifications box. A pop-up menu will give you the option to “turn off live video notifications” from that friend or Page. You can use the same technique to get rid of other repeating alerts, such as notifications of friends’ birthdays.

Unfortunately, this only works for that page whereas the update will allow you to turn off the alerts for all Live Videos. Facebook said last week that it would allow users to disable all live video notifications using the Settings menu, but the option hasn’t appeared yet.

What happens when you try to divide by zero on your computer or phone. It gave an error on my computer and showed infinity on my smartphone? But, what if you divide by zero on a mechanical computer? Well, the result is scary and you need to watch it yourself to believe it.

Do you remember your early mathematics classes when your teacher taught you the rules of multiplication and division? Your teacher might have told you that you can’t divide any number by zero as the answer is infinity and your calculator shows error or infinity.

But, if you try the same on a mechanical calculator, the device goes berserk and you see something worse than an error message. In the video shared below, someone attempts to divide by zero on a mechanical calculator Facit ESA-01 and the outcome is scary.Watch the video here:

So, what does a mechanical calculator try to commit suicide?

The mechanical calculator basically performs division and multiplication by subtracting and adding, thus division is simply a sequential subtraction.

For example, dividing 10 by 2 is basically —

1. 10-2=8
2. 8-2=6
3. 6-2=4
4. 4-2=2
5. 2-2=0

However, if you repeat the same process using zero, it doesn’t make sense to the calculator and it becomes an infinite loop:

1. 20-0=20
2. 20-0=20
3. 20-0=20
4. 20-0=20
5. 20-0=20
6. 20-0=20 and so on….

The same happens when a division-by-zero command is given to Facit ESA-01. This vintage machine tries perform the subtraction over and over to calculate the results.

Meet Raspberry Pi 3’s new competitor – $15 Pine 64 computer

$15 Pine 64 looks to take on Raspberry Pi 3 with better graphics

A new $US15 board computer that could give Raspberry Pi 3 a tough competition has finally shipped fuelling the war in low-cost computers.

Called the Pine 64, this device is powerful as the $35 Raspberry Pi 3 and could serve as a PC replacement. The most expensive Pine 64 which comes with Wi-Fi, is priced at $29. Pine 64 runs on Android and Remix OS, a version of Android for PCs.

The backers who contributed a total of $US1.7 million into a Kickstarter campaign to build the computer would be the first to receive the initial shipments. The computer’s maker, Pine 64 Inc. is shipping out small batches after delays and slowly speeding up production, according to posts in the company’s forums and on its Kickstarter page.

While some backers started receiving boards, but many who have not have taken to the Kickstarter page to complaint over delays and about getting notices that the board was ready to ship but not getting tracking numbers for packages.

The company’s website has listed three models of Pine 64. According to the site, the $US19 and $US29 models, which can be pre-ordered, will ship no later than May, while the cheapest $15 model is out-of-stock.

Similar to Raspberry Pi 3 in many aspects, the Pine 64 has a 64-bit ARM-based Cortex A53 CPU, MicroSD slot, Ethernet and HDMI ports. Pine 64 comes with an ARM Mali 400 MP2 graphics processor that is capable of rendering 4K video and has better graphics. On the other hand, Pi 3 is capable of rendering 1080p video at 60 frames per second. The Pine 64 has two USB ports, while the Raspberry Pi 3 has four USB ports.

The base $US15 Pine 64 model comes with 512MB DDR3 RAM, while the $19 model has 1GB of DDR3 RAM, a 5-megapixel camera port and MIPI video port. The $US29 model has 2GB of RAM and also Wi-Fi, which is also an important selling point for Raspberry Pi.

Since its initial announcement in December, expectation for the Pine 64 computer has been increasing, which has also received extensive media coverage. No details were provided by Pine64 on its shipment plans.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge dual-SIM smartphone version buyers can either choose additional storage through microSD card and a single SIM card or dual SIMs and no additional storage. However resourceful hackers have found a way to bypass this restriction and add both dual-SIM and microSD capability to the Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone.

The hack which has surfaced online requires some modifications to your SIM card and your microSD card so that you can use both SIM slots and a microSD card at the same time. Do remember that the modifications are risk and you might destroy your SIM card and your microSD in the process. There is also a chance you might damage your new smartphone, so beware.

For modification process you need a nano SIM card, lighter, scissors, tape or glue, memory card, and the willingness to risk your new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. This hack requires you to heat up the back of the SIM card and then hack the actual SIM chip away from the plastic backing leaving you with only the gold contacts and no plastic surrounding it. You then have to precisely trim that SIM card.

Once you have the card trimmed per the steps according to a tutorial posted by noreplied, you have to glue or tape the SIM chip to your microSD card in a precise location.

The modification also requires some precise and skillful engineering especially while removing the chip from the Nano SIM.

Next, with the same precision you have to trim your SIM card.

As it turns out the trimmed SIM card can fit onto the microSD card in such a way that the contacts for the memory card can be read at the same time the SIM is read in the dual-purpose slot.

If you trim and glue precisely enough, you should be able to configure the new SIM card with the dual SIM manager application in Galaxy S7 Edge.

If you see the dual-SIM option that means you have done a pretty good engineering job. Once done, your engineering feat will give you both a second SIM card and additional storage to enjoy for your content.
