Key Financial Ratios is an Android App that presents different financial ratios and their descriptions. It is a simple app that can be used to revise the ratios and their meaning. The app also provides the formulas for the ratios.
The following ratios are discussed:
1. Return on Equity
2. Return on Assets
3. Earnings per Share
4. Profit Margin
5. Fixed Asset Turnover
6. Current Ratio
7. Times Interest Earned
8. Debt to Equity Ratio
9. Price/Earnings Ratio

Quick Shutdown of Windows

It usually takes some time for windows to shut down..well there is an easy way to shut it down ...this usually takes <10 seconds ....and here's how u can do it..
1) Goto task manager. (ctrl+Alt+del usually opens it)
2) Goto Shutdown menu item.
3) Hold Ctrl key and select "Turn off".

Search Engines!!

Well...the first thing that comes to mind is Google! ...couldn't agree more...
however, there are many other search engines offered by various companies..and the latest to join the bandwagon is Cuil ....now this caught few eyes as it was started by former google employee.. :) This search engine ranks results based on content present in the sites rather than using websites popularity(google's algo)...
About Cuil...well it looks pretty decent and the results displayed are quite close to ur query...it also displays an image with each result tryin to match the query ...and phrase complete suggestions too(obvious to expect this)....besides displaying other categories which might interest users...
but one wonders if one really want to c popular pages(which are also close to ur query) or the ones which are not so popular but matches ur query.:P
Funny thing i found out was : if u type "cuil" as search query, this search engine's website is not listed in first page of results ...

ixquick - this one is good...well its a metasearch engine but does a good job in grabbing results by using other SE's .. :) ... check it out...i occasionally use this and found it good..

After reading "Five point someone" ....I couldn't resist reading Chetan bhagat's next work titled "one night @ call center" which is now being made into a bollywood movie...not sure how much that will click...but I must say it was equally enjoyable as the first one....the thing I like about his novels is that they look so real and especially one can identify with the characters and instances that occur in their lives...well it was worth spending time ..and looking forward to read his new book titled "3 mistakes of my life"....

MinGW and MSYS

Most of us know about MinGW(Minimalist GNU for windows) which uses MS windows runtime libraries to build,link and run C,Cpp programs on win32 platforms(also supports other languages too). It can be used via command prompt or can be integrated into an IDE. I use Eclipse as my IDE and occasionally use Cmd prompt. However, I recently started using MSYS which is a POSIX-like Command line Interpreter similar to Cmd prompt provided by MinGW. I fully liked it as it resembles the Unix type shell environment which was what I was mostly using back in school. It also helps in running different scripts and interprets makefiles too.I am still in process of exploring the tool completely...but u can read more about it on MinGW's site.

Time and again u run across words while browsing, reading an article or a book whose synonyms u wish u could know...and though there r lot of online dictionaries available, I found this one the best among them. Its called Definr. It also provides word completion. Its really very very fast in proving synonyms and also in word completion.Take a look...its really good...m sure ur gonna stick with it if ur looking for an online dictionary...

If u are an avid firefox user like me...these tips r pretty useful ..
anyways found some on net and knew some ...here goes.....
1. Alt + D - Goes to your address bar
2. Ctrl + Enter - .com address
3. Shift + Enter - .net address
4. Ctrl + Shift + Enter - .org address
5. Ctrt + T - New Tab
6. Ctrl + Shift + T - Recently Closed Tab. (nice one)
7. Ctrl + Tab - Navigates among ur opened tabs
8. Ctrl + [1,2,3...] - Takes you to that corresponding particular tab

U can make a diary of ur notepad..here's how it can be done..its really simple..
1. open notepad
2. type .LOG and save it.
3. When u open it again, the current time and date is automatically stored.
4. U can write ur stuff and save it.

haha...this is one of the weird yet different type of search engine...

this search engine has an option called "Search with guide"..what this does is that it takes u to an expert person live..who helps u in getting the results...man sounded kewl...but wait...after spending quite sometime...i can only say that its waste of time...and just timepass...its like u hired a person to google for u...also,

1. the response time is very slow...
2. its for the lazy people who are too lazy to spend time to search stuff..
3. and they cannot help u with anything...there were no guides for most of the stuff..

can say that its creative but...naah...google rules...

aah...finally relieved...just recently defended my thesis and everything went fine...though its been 2 days now i guess..still can't get over the fact that, i am done with my studies...and to top that there is a job in hand waiting for me to start..and i still have a month and half for the joining date...

microsoft visual studio .NET 2003 prerequisites

this troubled me a lottt...the necessary prerequisites...oopphhh

(the below information is just to let the readers who do not know abt this....)

ok lemme start..... when u try installing this u might probably get an error
"Setup has detected that another program requires the computer to reboot. You must reboot the computer before installing Visual Studio .Net Prerequisites. Once the system reboots. you need to restart setup. Click OK to reboot. Click cancel to exit setup and install later."
the weird thing is that when u do this i.e, restart...the same thing happens...

the only thing u can do is install the prerequisites which are given in the CD or DVD....
among all those the important prerequisites u need are:

Microsoft FrontPage 2000 Web Extensions Client
Setup Runtime Files
(Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1)
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
Microsoft Visual J# .NET Redistributable Package 1.1

if all the above are installed u can proceed for installation...
now these options are available in the folder WCU ..but there are also more besides these...
so i tried installing them seperately....(make sure u follow the order) i guess...
even after this if ur facing any problems...the last option is to install all the features....given in the folder...

there are many helpful articles provided at microsoft site...
(there is lot info abt this, got to say took a lot of time to know everythin reg. this.. )

to save files from You-tube..

hmm...i was trying to save files from You-tube for some time...finally i found a way which by the way involved quite an amount of browsing....its as follows..

1. open the file in you-tube.
2. select the URL and then paste into the following site
http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php
(just paste the URL in the textbox given)
3. Make sure u save the file as .flv extension.
4. To play these files, u need a seperate player called FLV Player which u can download from
http://www.download.com/FLV-Player/3000-2139_4-10467081.html
5. just drag and drop the file into the player and walla ..u can njoy the videos...

u can also use converters to convert .flv to .avi or .wmv but i guess the clarity will be reduced..

P.S: if u have any other way of saving the files please lemme know...

often u come across things in life which might seem too common in nature or too easy to spend time thinking about them...but its not always true...c it all depends on ur observance..if u spend some time observing it from different point of view....u can c that there is lot of information that is hidden or in simple terms will be visible to u which otherwise might be neglected by u.....so guys what seems to be simple might not be simple at all...so try obserivng things more carefully.....
this can be true regarding any field...might be even academics..

Google Virtual drives..

ok....google has lot of storage space..it has now more than 2.5GB of space for each user account..
i used to wonder whether they provide some type of feature where user can store any file they want...besides just using that space for "emails" only.....then i came across these two features which creates a type of virtual drive where user can store the content making it similar to a sort of file server...

1. Gmail Virtual Drive. Just download this on ur computers and a Gmail Drive will be created on ur computer just like any other drive. open ur windows explorer and u will c a Gmail Drive.It then asks for ur gmail user name and password and just copy files using drag and drop procedure...its that simple...and the files will be stored in the form of an email...u can just download them ...and reuse...
..though it is useful..i had few problems when i tried to copy files of large size(thats obvious in any case though)..but even sometimes while transferring small files ..the connection used to terminate...but its good though...there r few other things such as file name size must be less than 40 characters...
...u can download this from net....(type Gmail virtual drive in google hehe)

2. this one is just like a portal which is http://www.xmailharddrive.com/
just login using ur gmail acct and just upload the files...and u can download ur files by just logging into this site....sounds easy...

thats it ....i was amazed by this features...no wonder google is innovative...
just try them out..
