More Water Projects

2011-07-12T18:18:00.001-04:00

We have city water at the barn, Yea Yoho water at the barn no more carrying water to the chickens. A big project for me, ditch digger rental drilling holes in the wall of the basement. digging holes at each end of the line, with the help of my strong Son it went well. Waiting for a good rain to help work the dirt back into the ditch that will just take time. but I have water at the barn !! It was very hot doing the work but it turned out real well.

WATER WATER WATER

2011-07-12T13:34:00.001-04:00

New water project for the summer, lots of ideas from everything I could get my hands on , The web and all the magazines I could look at in Wal-Mart while My wife shopped. No need to buy when you just look at the pictures. Ha Ha!

The base has to be really strong because the water is really heavy when these barrels are full. 8 lbs. a gallon 150 gallons, just do the math and you have a lot of weight. The barrels fill with a small amount of rain fall, and we have water for animals and most for all the garden. I had all the material to make the base from a decking job I did last summer, the post that was cut short was just the ticket. 3/4 inch pipe fitting worked well, they fit the drums so that how I went. Went with a large barrel type valve for more flow, I have smaller valves on other projects and they tend to be slow when the pressure is low, and tend to plug with debris. This set up works really well. This make six barrels total for our place, garden and flower need lots of water.

New Chicks / New Plants

2011-04-06T12:33:00.002-04:00

We have new flocks members, 12 Golden Comets pullets from the store. About Two weeks old and doing well. Hopefully they will be laying this fall because the eggs are going really fast. We have some customers that want all the eggs, but we can’t do that, we have other customers that have been getting eggs a long time. This might be the help we need to keep up our production.

The Plants are coming along well, flowers and Tomatoes in the small space the in the basement.

Just waiting for it to warm up outside. And I am waiting also for the weather to warm up a bit more.

My Automatic Feeder

2010-09-03T16:35:00.001-04:00

This just looks like a saw on a bucket, but it’s not. This my automatic chicken feeder. There is a hole in the bottom of the bucket and the blade is inserted in the hole. The hole sizes is about 5/8 of an inch, but it can be any size depending on how much feed you want to flow out.The saw is wire tied to the bottom of the bucket. The trigger is wire tied on at the proper speed that is desired for feeding. When the saw is powered on the blade moves up and down in the feed and it just flows out. The power cord can be attach to a timer to feed at times during the day or night.

I just hang the bucket above the birds and watch them come a running when they hear the saw power on, They just love to get a taste of scratch grain on the floor. Its something that I have already around the place and it didn’t cost me any extra money at all. And I know were my saw is when I need it.

The Couple

2010-08-11T20:48:00.000-04:00

This is the cute couple that we have had at our house for about a week now. Their names are Zoey & Bear they have become fast friends. This is the first time for both of them so it very interesting to go through this with them. It was very hot outside and they like to stay inside most of the time. Bear was a very well behaved dog no trouble at all.

Its all quiet around here, Bear has went home and Zoey has settled down for the most part. I think that she might be still in season so we have keep under close watch for other suters that may come around. 3 week off and its been so hot that it been unbearable to do anything outside. Back to work on Monday maybe the weather will let up around here. New puppies could be on the way.

See Ya
