I. Compassion Pt 2

And as she came of age, a piece of her past youth was lost. What was once a living, breathing emotion had now faded into a deadened memory that was shelved into her mind and away from her heart.

But this past experience would now show the way ahead, with new-found clarity and wisdom.

A teddy bear still sits by the corner of her room. She used to spend time to play with it, but such was a thing of the past. Once in a while, she would still glance at it, but with a nonchalant stare so very unlike the affectionate gaze of the little girl I used to know.

'Could I ever awaken the little girl in her once again?' I once asked the teddy bear. It remained silent, as if sneering at my naivety. Little did I realise that I was speaking to an empty shell, whose soul had drifted away the moment the little girl stepped out of her room to face the outside world.

II. An Ethereal Encounter

An indescribable uncertainty disturbed the inner peace within me last week. It grew to paranoia, and caused a throbbing migraine that kept recurring non-stop. Thankfully, the pain was mitigated by the momentary drug of distraction, and finally healed by faith and much prayer.

I will not shed a tear, nor shudder with fear, when the grimreaper wraps his arm around your shoulder and beckons you to pass on. Instead, I will applause for the good deeds you had done on earth, and celebrate with you on your transition to a sinless, perfect after-life.

III. One-oh-five

It's been quite a long time since I've stayed up this late. But it's quiet now, and I'm the DO for the day - two wonderfully helpful ingredients that can make great blog posts.

I. Homecoming

a lonesome traveller on a vacation much too long,

but he has returned,

albeit in bits and pieces,

that together makes one wholesome.

II. Hindsight bias

A long-standing tale of life once spoke a message. It said, "change and growth are volatile entities, that overtime add up to become a constant in the equation of life." Indeed, it speaks a truth that has surely stood the test of time and man, and triumphed both life and death. Its ancient voice still rings emphatically, but ever so surely and soothingly.

III. Infinity and beyond

2010 has been a fulfilling year. I was thrown many miles out of my comfort zone, and in my bewilderment, had been led purposefully by an elusive being to a path with a sign that wrote: "confidence". And off I went to where the sign pointed, guided by nothing but just a mere belief that this sign was a harbinger of rightful direction.

Rows of trees appeared along the edges of the broad road I was treading upon. And on these trees were fruits of varying colours, shapes, and sizes. It was a very spectacular sight, but one so very distant and deplorable because I was not to touch or smell them. I was warned right from the beginning that these fruits did not belong to me, but to the trees that painstakingly took ownership and sacrificed much time and energy to bear them. In all fairness, this visual treat was already a privilege that few would ever get to witness.

And along the way came this very peculiar tree. It rustled and shook intensely even in the absence of wind. As I paused to scrutinise its aberrational eccentricity, a branch was extended in front on me. At its tip, a piece of fruit hung lusciously.

I placed my palms gingerly beneath it. Indeed, it was a respectful and meek gesture that restrained my fervent yearning for its greenish skin to touch mine. But somehow, the tree seemed to hear my silent voice, and answered with a momentous 'yes' as the fruit dissociated itself from its branch.

In its place, a note was left hanging, and on it were scribbles of wisdom and warning:

- Never generalise or assume, for only fools accept, but professionals validate

- You may not always say what you mean, but always mean what you say (be honest!)

And finally, a quote:

“Learn to limit yourself; to content yourself with some definite work; dare to be what you are and learn to resign with a good grace all that you are not; and to believe in your own individuality.”

As I came to the end of the note, something suddenly dawned upon me. I had held the pen that wrote these very words. It was a special pen that I was gifted with, one that had the power to rewrite lives and craft new chapters, not only for myself, but for the people around me.

Never had I felt so sure of myself since the time I was flung far away from my own realised consciousness and left to struggle in the abyss of unstructured, unknown unconsciousness.

IV. A cluttered mind

clouds bring intricacy to an otherwise plain and vast sky,

but too many clouds in the sky shroud its majesty and awe.

yet,

there will always be a ray of sunlight that peeks through,

to remind those beneath the clouds,

of a silver lining that brings hope and peace

I. We're almost there

Two years of slogging all down to a dozen or so papers.
A dozen or so papers all down to one result slip.
One result slip - a passport to a million possibilities in life.
A million possibilities in life, but only one path to choose.

Sometimes i just wish i had 9 lives to live so that I'll still have 1 extra chance to make the right choice after screwing up the previous 8 ones.

II. A bright spot in the midst of dreary gloom

Went out with phaive-eh on fri after a rather worrying econs paper 1. It was a tiring but certainly fulfilling night for the mind, soul, and especially the tummy (: Ate delicious japanese curry at liang court and then ambled around the singapore river while doing retarded stuff (: Den had a nice chat with boiboi on the way home. One of the most purrrfect nights i've had in weeks.

Went out again for lunch after physics paper 3. Haha whoops i felt quite bad for making everyone walk so far but i hope the nice food made up for it! This goes to show that you shouldn't place your entire faith in streetdirectory.com. But then again, i would have been a clueless, stranded tourist if not for that.

III. Compassion

When deep-seated hurts become physically visible, there is always

You can: kick it, punch it, squeeze it, hug it, trample on it, scream at it, dress it up (or down). But above all, love it as a child loves his soft toys. That's the only thing that sustains it's warmness and ensures that the harsh and arbitrary passage of time does not wear it out.

IV. Fitting the puzzle pieces together

And there we stood,
An arm's length apart,
Feet firmly rooted to the ground,
Just barely out of each other's embrace.

Oh, but pardon those beguiling eyes,
For it had the mark of a mona lisa smile,
Introspectively peering on with an intent, fixated gaze.
An angel's innocence with a devil's stony stare.
So temptingly dear but yet so strikingly bare.

In your left hand, a dangling carrot swung.
Hypnotically, enticingly - like the hand of a grandfather's clock,
It ticked time away, steadily and ever so surely.
Most damningly, I yearned for it.
But thankfully, there was this mask of veneer (and also that calm whisper).
That, indeed, was the sorry suspect of my intuition.

Still, my limbs were numb.
Each trembling ripple through the body masked a soul in resounding fits.
I was weak,
but it was weakness that drove my resolve.

Hasty contemplation and an iron will beat down that surge of fervency into submission.
It was painfully fulfilling to exercise such self-restraint and to eventually succeed.

With new found hope, I drew a line between our toes,
Marking one side as 'wrong', and the other - the side 'less wrong'.
I'll never know which side i'm on,
Until the day where a good samaritan passes by,
And bends down to wash out that divide.

Too long and too little but too bad.

I. Jumbled thoughts of a forgotten past

- An outpouring of love so great that tears welled up in his eyes.
- It is so peacefully sad how certain things can just slide out of your life unnoticed.
- A dormant exterior with an exploding interior.
- A passing calm before the storm.
- Seeing them fall from firm foundations. Indeed, I have the capacity and potential to just do that. But then again i believe that in the end their wrong will be made right.
- Chilling serenity.

II. Problems then and now

My moral fibre has rended again.
I can't make a judgement call,
For who am I to judge at all?

Somehow, this steadfastness has leaked from my soul.
It came strongly, but left eerily softly.
Ignorance on my part perhaps?

But then I saw you again.
And as I often do, I asked myself,
How can you always stay that strong?
I have tried to emulate your strength,
But I am not you, nor will I ever be.

So then,
What's wrong with taking the middle ground?
What's wrong with manipulating someone towards a good end?
Arguably, doing so has an element of respect and patience (alongside much love).
Moreover, an explicit expression of good intentions may just cut people up even worse.

Still,
The means don't justify the ends.
And once again,
it harks back to the same old question,
Who am i to judge which way is better?

On a more positive note,
This inner turbulence is indicative of change - change for the better.

But why must I be so sure of it?
Why should I look upon the world with those rose-tinted glasses?
They only make me momentarily optimistic but blind me from the cold, hard truth.

Perhaps all I can do now is to pray harder and wait quietly.
Please, I really do need a moment of peace,
So that I can discern between his voice and my own noise.

On a final note, I am really thankful for this.
But woe to me on the day that he tells me that i am finally mature enough.

III. Tranquility

It seemed so edifying to stream alongside the singapore river while rain poured down from the sky.
The scenery was bare - bleak. grey. solemn.
Lonesome indeed; because my surroundings were lacking the usual hustle and bustle one would expect of a CBD.

Towering skyscrapers filled the background. They stood tall, but nonetheless remained as dark, insignificant silhouettes subservient to the sky's fury.
As i trudged on, a small boat came into view. It chugged along beneath the bridge, going past me without so much as a smile.
Despite being void of people, the boat remained ignorant; unfeeling towards its own sorrowful solitude (but it had always been that way).

Puddles of water were littered all over the concrete pavement.
The steady pitter-patter of the rain nursed them into life as they grew from small puddles into larger pools of water.
Interestingly, dragging my feet into them felt chillingly fresh. Waves of coldness jolted through my body and shocked my mind out of its seemingly aimless state.

In front of me, a couple of people leaned against the marble wall and puffed away nonchalantly.
It seemed uncouth and uncaring, almost vulgar.
Still, it reeked of absolute coolness.
And it suddenly dawned upon me that being cool often mitigated against life's miseries and hardships. sigh.

I crossed the bridge.
Before me, people were sitting under the protective cover of the museum's porch.
Gloomy, impatient, bored. Some visibly crest-fallen too.
'Why not come and play under the rain? You know, it can wash away sadness and despair!"
Well, screw that naivety. Utter brainlessness and immaturity.

And there before me was this curtain of water gushing down the side of the building.
Ha, an unexpected urban waterfall in the unlikeliest of places.
For a moment, it seemed to augur change in utter lifelessness and desolation.
But that was just wishful thinking.

Beneath the walls of the building lay a safe haven free from the stingingly chilly rain.
And after expressing my gratitude for such marvelous creations, I finally stepped inside.
Behind me, the sun peeked out from the swarm of angry clouds, as if ushering in a new spring.

Then, I spoke to her.
She handed me the goods,
And my melancholy faded as I glanced through its contents.

IV. Confused and lost

Weary headbanging.
Thud thud thud it goes,
As the heart beats out of sync,
And the mind wonders what the hell is going on.

Ich werde in die Tannen gehen
Dahin wo ich sie zuletzt gesehen
Doch der Abend wirft ein Tuch aufs Land
und auf die Wege hinterm Waldesrand
Und der Wald er steht so schwarz und leer

2nd season of Goong (Princess Hours) has just started airing yesterday! (13/10/07) Although I don't really like watching dramas, this one was different...season 1 that is...not sure whether this season's episodes will be just as good.

Crunchyroll.com: Mostly anime and drama episodes, game trailers, and so on (its database of shows is HUGE)...

Veoh.com: Includes a lot of videos posted by people (just like youtube). Can find movies as well as other stuff like Justice League Unlimited episodes etc. The website also includes a client that can be downloaded to access the online shows, subscriptions to series of shows, a search engine and so on (more can be found here).

For a full list of online video streaming services (including other services like blip.tv and youtube), check out this PCworld review: "Video Sharing Shoot-Out", which ranks all the different services.

I'd recommend veoh because of the downloadable client (= It saves a lot of trouble looking for videos in an internet browser. And it downloads full seasons in the background...that means playing games while it helps me download all the episodes of "the zeta project", a new cartoon I'm watching now hahaha xD

Yeah, so now's the time to watch many many shows and movies to catch up with whateva that's been happening; I've been drifting away for too long already, so must enjoy while I still can (=

Things just weeks ago seem decades away. Somehow I’m lost, wonderin why time has passed so fast; and then another term is gone again.

Now seems just like any other holiday, where I take a step back, and get rdy for another ten million-billion-gazilion steps ahead. Hope my life doesnt end in such a flash too :/

houyes, i'm finally back!

been crazily busy since the last post, n i've actually forgotten most of what i've done over the past month...damn. But at least now is the hols, and it's time to just slack, and slack more! I hvnt touched ANY hw...dno whether to feel happy or start panicking now ha

anyway, the gooood thing was that i've watched 4 movies durin the 1st week of the hols (= and it felt hmm....yummy (= it rly felt great esp since the last time i watched a movie was...(i forgot :X) and also went to lan, play, and screw arnd. btw sry mewil for causin u so much trouble man :/ but hope we still had fun tgther

played some random shoe game durin SS on wed (= haha it was some obervation lesson so ss tchr had to make some interesting lesson ya. basically we were grouped into families n we had to make shoes n sell them in order to survive. it was hard n at the end we were all in debt aftr borrowin so much money lol!

hmph, we cldve survived if dadaab wanted to marry kartik...we were tryin our best to marry him off so 2 families --> 1 family, n we wld hve more manpower + pay less taxes...ah well

had RE too i tink we r so messed up, stayed back so late to finish FPS n we still hvnt finish solutions, argh.

on thurs we had napfa 5 items...n it's the 1st time i got all 5 As (= didn't know i wld jump so far for standin broad jump...previous yrs i suk like nonsense =/ the rest of the stations just get just nice A and stop, haha neo n i (i was partnertin him 4 situps) stopped at like 43 situps, den the tchr at the station was sayin, "15 secs left...", so we just waited, and did 1 more situp just in case la (=

oh man, gng to 3Q has made me such a slacker but it's rly fun yea! anyway, adrian chng is dam bad to his own softball capt lol. when we were @ the sitnreach station, he was sayin, "neo, u so short...". aftr that, "look at your thighs, like chicken wing like tt". then still hvn finish. when neo did 39cm, he said, "so lousy cnt even reach 40" LOL wth....

in the aftrnoon we had mep lesson at republic poly cultural centre, some random gamelan workshop. nt bad la, MUCH BETTER than normal mep lesson. hope we didn't mess arnd too much hehe oops xD the lady was explainin each puppet in some play, n when she took out one of them n asked who it was we said ur mom. ooops

FRIDAY, d-day. 4 hr chinese paper...2 compo (2 hrs), then 15 min break. then paper 2: 1 close, 4 compre, 1 summary. not only hand die, brain die also...darnit must get used to doin long papers otherwise O lvls die. i hope i can get 60% for dis paper (= eventhough i know i may not even pass =/

aftr tht went to collect chem paper...zzz, made so many careless mistakes wth la. argh, somehow i nid to tweak my brain durin exam man. either tht or smth's rly wrong inside there somewhere, haii

today, saturday. went for piano (i finished piano work arnd 2am on the same day yeaa). aftr tht went to sch to help out wit chang's SL thing, along wit daryl teo, marcus tan, paul sim. tht chang. houyes, got tat wai n me n an rg SL grp to help them. lol sneaky mann! but we had fun la (= oh ya, jin sei came along 4 dno wad reason..haha

ytd the exco and SLs had a chat session with our conductor. at least now we know where we went wrong (=

he said we lacked conviction. our performance lacked the emotive energy displayed by Dunman, which attained a gwh. also, it was way too soft, and lacked clarity.

next, we weren't taking ownership of our instrument. many people were still sick (like 1/3 of the choir) 1 - 2 days before syf. and also, people were not prioritizing. there were those who chionged work, stayed up late, fooled arnd (ok i was one of them but i just cnt help it, it's just me , sry), yah.

also, we were nervous, and that led to a shaky start (vry unstable in fact). and then we lost focus halfway thru aftr our most difficult piece.

so ya, tht's wad he said.

wad i say, is simply that we were too concerned with our own music. our minds were set on making sure we didnt make any mistakes (like gettin the right pitch, rhythm, choreo etc.). what we left out in our performance was the audience. wad is a performance without an audience?

yeah, we made the grave mistake of not carrying our music TO the people, FOR the people. we were way too self-conscience. so nxt time, let's just sing for the people (people = us too of course). we will walk up that stage shamelessly, and just perform like sincere singers, full of conviction and energy.

it'll just be for those few minutes tht we immerse ourselves into the music, and transfer it from a black and white score to melodious music for everyone's ears. we'll sing not only with our minds, but with our hearts next time.

everyone can sing exceptionally well. now we just have to make sure we can perform well.

okay, so now this trying time has finally concluded (=

today, i went to lan with zee, tatwai n his bro, joshua, and daniel tay. haha, amazingly i still hvnt lost touch with dota (= yeah man, still can kill n win! woweweee xD i'm just glad tht nxt wk is gna be free! n yeah, everyone nids a decent break once in a while.

other than tht, cell n service was rather fine. haha, it was just so humurous to see ps ronald n his blender. he volunteered someone to be blindfolded. then he blended this disgusting vegetable juice for tht person to drink. aftr blending he gave a cup of water to tht person and asked her to drink it. she dared not, lol!

but someone else did la, brave guy yeah. smelling tht drink cld almost make me puke, wonder wad wld happen if i drank it o.O n yeh, it was gd cuz today i finally let go of all my disappointment, so now i'm back to normal again! ahh, the wonders of gng to church (=

i dno wad to feel.

the songs we performed were of an acceptable standard. our hardest song...we did it better than expected (even our conductor did approve of it).

and then we got a gold, without honours. we anticipated it, but nvr did expect it. today seemed like one of our better days, but well. it is just is the way it is.

i dont know whether i shld b happy cuz we did better than what we expected, or whether i shld b sad cuz we didnt get what we wanted, or tht i shld be angry cuz i still left the stage with a lil regret still.

right now i'll just wait for this moment of uncertainty to pass. will ppl mock us for not getting a gold with honours? or will they be shocked? or rather, be afraid and wonder why we didnt get what they expected us to get?

and of course, i must brace myself and stand tall. i believe in rv; we believe in ourselves, and we'll pull through this together ya, dun let syf drag us down (=

just know tht we did what we could n did it as best as we could. it doesnt rly matter wad the world thinks now

today i heard that polo n softball couldnt get gold. polo lost to acsi 8-9, and wont be in the finals? softball is out cuz two other schs fix match to eliminate them. wth...

and then friends are becomin overworked, frustrated, havin low self-esteem and what not. conflicts, failure, and loss become part and parcel of our lives. i rly hate this, or is it cuz i just cant face it, eye to eye, like wad i am expected to do? i can only hope that i receive strength to deal with this. i do pray hard for it. i also pray hard for those who are crest-fallen, those broken and weary warriors. seeing you all in such a state makes my heart tear too. cheer up everyone (=

Oh gosh, havent been updating for a rather long time :/

well, my life has been Ok. acceptable but having occasinal bumps and trips. ah well...i am busy but still have a lil time to post (=

it's almost the end of week 2 alr. time flies past so fast, n i hope hope HOPE that things will slow down. been trying hard to rush everything, but for the past few days i've been slping so early, yikes! dunno y i've been feelin so tired recently.

however, i do presume that life is gna become more hectic as everyone gets into full drive. syf is comin, and ipic draws closer and closer, along with every other thing. and of course, i find myself laggin behind, ohnoes =(

so now is the time to think back...wad interesting things have happened in the past few weeks...firstly, my sis' birthday! it occured on the 24th of march. She had a party at home la, with a few of her friends. i got her some toy that shakes its head side to side when it absorbs solar energy (= haha, hopefully it'll help her distress.

next, 2 recent icc competitions have just ended. the first was some climate change digital art competition, organised by the british council. chris n me took part (=

haha, and this is the ARMS (army museum of singapore) student art competition 2007, also done by chris n me

well, hopefully we can get something la (= other than that....oh ya! i ponned sch last thurs, n fri, cuz i was sick (= yeah man, and i finally had some REST! sometimes it's just better to get sick, rly enjoyed the time at home slping and lazing arnd, yeah

lastly, tmr is cell picnic! it's gna be fun, with everyone running arnd n screaming in botanic gardens. hope we dont disturb the fauna and flora too much (=

hmm, other than that i cant recall anything else! yikes, life is so mundane. luckily i have 4Q. our class makes people happy and...mad. mad as in hyper and jumpy and crazy, which is applicable to students, and mad as in angry and frustrated, which applies to a couple of teachers when they just cant stand our nonsense xD

Okay, so today, we finally had Mission 2 the Future, an educational event for pri 5 to sec 3 infocomm club students. and we had to bring these people around science center to complete various activities...and it was rather screwed. lol :P

haha, lil kids running all over the place. to be more accurate, 100+ lil kids, controlled by a small group of us facilitators and organisers...it was pure madness, and craziness, and of course...when you have craziness and madness added together you get fun (= Plus cute lil kids that you just wanna pinch (btw i'm not like liangz the big nose, but these kids look rly cute!).

also, we all need to remember tt the facilitators arnt very sure of what to do, and how to go about doing what we are supposed to do. Nevertheless, the event was quite a success. apart from the frenzied people runnin all over the place, we achieved our objectives with few comprimises, good job to everyone!
