Jubilee Nails Inc

You may have realised that I have a new addition in my header, a Union Jack as this weekend we will be celebrating the Queen Diamond Jubilee so I thought my blog would get in on the fun. I will hopefully be sharing a good few Jubilee themed posts starting with this one. For most of last week I was wearing Jubilee by Nails Inc which was applied for me at the QVC press day but which I had seen first at the Nails Inc Bloggers event.

Its a mixture of navy, red and silver glitter, obviously mirroring the union jack, it applied just opaque and you only need two coats. I also think it wears pretty well but I am not looking forward to removing it as I always find removing glitter very tough!

Below are some of my Instagram pictures of my Nails through out the week, they look so pretty in the sun!
The nail polish retails for £15 which may seem expensive but is almost Jubilee memorabilia but better! The bottle is beautiful with little gems in the lid and is, of course limited edition.

L'oreal L'or Electric

Inspired by Cannes Film Festival L'Oreal release it's new L'Or Electric Collection (clearly my post is a tad late!) The collection is made up of two Infallible shadows, three lipsticks and three polishes although I am sure the shades vary in different countries. The first thing I realised is that come of the colours aren't really overly wearable an orangey shadows isn't usually what I'd go for and the shimmer in the lipsticks just isn't my cup of tea but lets take a closer look...

The two Infallible eyeshadows are in Metalic Lilac and Metalic Coral, they are basically pressed eyeshadows but it really works well. The pigmentation and texture is fantastic but I don't think I will use the coral colour very much but it might be worth a look if you have blue eyes, on the other hand the silver/lilac shade is perfect for easy smokey eyes.

I have no swatches of the lipstick yet but I will feature them in Nail of the Day posts very soon. the colours available in the Color Riche Nail Polishes part of this collection are 811: Magic Croisette, 809: Mystic Blue and 810: Mythical Carpet. The think that caught my attention about this product is that it apparently doesn't need base coat or top coat. Even out these the polish is suppose to be long wearing and not stain your nails, I experienced some tip wear after a day or so therefore I am not convinced about not needing a top coat. However when I removed my nail polish my nails weren't stained.

There are three lipsticks in Electric Fuchsia, Metallic Coral and Prismatic Pink- all the colours are slightly sheer and shimmery. At first I was very excited about Prismatic Pink it looks like a pretty pale pink but really its a sheer shimmery colour which adds very little. The Electric Fushia is probably my favourite the colour is pretty and the shimmer is quite as obvious, I also don't mind Metallic Coral but the shimmer is just a little too much for me.

This collection is already out and worth a look if you are on hunt for some summery bright colours and like shimmer. Available from Boots, Feel Unique and other L'Oreal retailers.

Glossy Box May- Birthday Edition

Its only right to start with wishing Glossy box a

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

they have been such a great brand to work with over the last year and its been great to see such an original idea develop on the British market. Last month I attended their fab party and was able to meet some of the team and they are all lovely! I was patiently awaiting the Birthday special box all month and here it is...

As stupid as it sounds- I love the tissue paper, its just so pretty, fitting to the brand and nicer than plain black one. Inside this was a rather full Glossy Box with 8 products if you include the balloon, the other product include perfume samples, a Glossy Box mirror, false eyelashes and a few other things. I am not overly excited about this box other than the tissue paper and the amount of products, I would say my least favourite product are the lashes as the gold makes them a little drag queen for me.

Other then that I quite like everything, the UNIQONE all in one hair treatment is a generous size and one I will probably get through, the Noble Isle Summer Rising is also something I can get use out of although I probably wouldn't have purchased it myself. My two stand out product are the Murad Clarifying Mask which although targeted at acne I will still be using and (surprise surprise!) I like the perfume samples. Maybe there is actually a reason they include them in these boxes! Usually I moan about small perfume sample but I love the Lolita Lempicka L'Eau en Blanc and am seriously considering making it my summer scent.

I know they say you're never happy with what you get but I think some of the other Glossy Boxes had some amazing products inside. There were 3 possible HD brow products, which I would of loved as well as a Collection 2000 gel eyeliner (glad I didn't get that) and a Welda product too.

Overall I think this was a decent box and if I found a possible signature summer scent I'm happy!

Sleek Ultra Matte Palettes V2 Darks

I haven't blogged about Sleek Eyeshadow Palette in a while, since November last year actually that's because it has been a while since they released a new palette. However this month they have released two need palettes both mattes but one bright and one dark and I have a few things to say about it. I have the darks palette as I would get little to no wear out of the bright palette.

Sleek Makeup has changed its packaging slightly recently in particular their logo, its only a small change but I actually like it. Like always this palette is made up of 10 eyeshadows one of which didn't survive the postage stage but is still useable. I like the colours in the palette as I don't think I really buy or use enough matte shadows, there is a nice variation of colours some lighter and some darker but all wearable.

The quality and pigmentation is okay but I always find that the Sleek lighter colours leave a lot to be desired as the pigmentation is poor and they are often chalky as is the case in this palette. Saying that the darker colours are really beautiful and pigmented.

Overall I think I will use this palette as I don't own nearly enough matte shadows and would recommend this palette if you are in the same boat as me, I'll be reaching for this for some smokey eyes!

Sadly, I do however feel a little less in love with the Sleek Palettes then I did before, I have well over 10 and although I love my collection I no longer get excited for the new palettes. I feel that most colours are repeated or at least not different enough from other palettes, I would really love to see some exciting shimmery colours with great pigmentation, formula and an original must have colours- I think that would get me excited again!

Look of the Day

Last week I posted on Instagram the above image after the Glossy Box event of the makeup I wore and I got quite a few questions and even requests for tutorial. I posted a few more so check out a_littleobsessed on Instagram if you want to have a nosey. Although I am not doing a tutorial I though I would at least show you what I wore, the below image is without a filter.

I was wearing Sinena X Fake tan lotion in the darker shade, I quite like it but I will save the details for a review coming soon. On my face I was wearing Makeup Forever HD foundation, which is probably my favourite foundation ever but sadly its very hard to get hold of in London, I forgot to wear concealer so this is all that is on my face as a base as a setting powder I like the Mac Prep+Prime powder. On my cheeks I had another all time favourite (actually this whole look includes pretty much all my all time favourites!) the Sleek contour kit in Light, if you have access to Sleek Makeup and don't have this product believe me you are missing out!

On to my eyes which is the main focus of this look, I used the HD brow kit through my brows and Nars eyeshadow primer. The shadows I used was Woodwinked all over the lid and some Satin Taupe in the outer corner- Woodwinked has fast become my favourite shadow and I wear it almost every day. The eyelashes really finished the look they were the Illamasqua False Eye Lashes in No.16 a a great option if you are looking to achieve a cat eye look. I curled my lashes, applied some mascara and my favourite lipstick.

New John Lewis Beauty Hall

Last week I attended the launch of the New (and very expensive at over £7 Million) beauty hall on Oxford Street. The Beauty Hall is based on a town square, they have premium makeup and skincare around the outside of the central hub and then niche brands, fragrances, nail polishes and skin care in the middle.

It is actually a really great place to shop at first I thought it was simply going to be a beauty hall like every other beauty hall but there is something extra special about this one. Most the premium brands have their own little section almost like a little boutique, they are really well set out and easy to navigate and offers a premium experience. I also love that unlike most beauty halls they have included some inexpensive brands such as Topshop. It is in fact the only Topshop stand outside a Topshop and also they have the only Burberry concession not in Havey Nichols or Harrods. They have a variety of beauty rooms too as well as selling electrical beauty goods.

I would really recommend having a look at the new John Lewis Beauty Hall even just for a browse as it such a lovely experience. Its very light, well laid out and there is something for every price budget. The variety of brands is just great; Topshop, L'oreal, Givenchy, Ren, Nars, Liz Earle (with the new makeup range- more about that in another post), Essie, Opi, Caudalie, Burberry and so much more
. Possibly my new favourite place to buy makeup or at least browse highend makeup!

Yesterday at Illamasqua

Yesterday I popped into Illamaqua's flagship store on Beak Street (near Carnaby Street) for a catch up with the lovely Illamasqua girls and also to see what new products they had out.

Back in March I blogged about the most recent Illamasqua collection, Human Fundamentalist which is still going strong. Its a collection made up of a diverse palette of colours which are designed not for you but instead for your alter ego. When I first saw the collection there were so many beautiful products and all the imagery is simply stunning!

However to make the collection even better Illamasqua has added a second installment of products by adding four new eyeshadows and two new lipsticks. All four eyeshadows are very bold but still colours you could incorporated in an everyday look. Inception is the violet shades, it is also in the Fundamental Palette from this collection, as is hype the bold yellow shade. The other two colours are Vapour which is a tangerine orange and Fledging a vivid matte green.

What caught my eye the most was the two new lipstick as they are both very wearable and pretty shades. Liable is a orange red matte shade which seems to be very popular amongst the Illamasqua team, the other shade is Eurydice a bright fushia matte lipstick, this completely my sort of colour! The great think about Illamasqua too is that you know you will get the pigment you expect from a lipstick, the makeup artist also said that the new lipstick look beautiful mixed together.

Apart from the new products I am very excited to tell you about Illamasqua's Beauty School Drop-in. As I am sure many of you know Illamasqua offers make-up lessons for a fee however on Sunday 13th May and Saturday 2nd June they will be offering 15minute make-up classes free of charge. You don't have to book you simply have to drop-in to their Beak Street Flagship store.

Sadly I am not able to attend this weekends one but I will hopefully be able to attend the next one, in particular the 'Flawless Skin Defined Brows'- actually I would happily attend them all! On the way home I was thinking about Illamasqua and sometime I get confused by all the bright colours and start believing that it is a company mainly for makeup artists however saying that I have never tried a product from Illamasqua that I don't love for my own personal use. Their liquid eyeliner is possibly my favourite ever and if I could own an entire nail polish collection it would probably be the Illamasqua one as they just get every colour spot on and there isn't a single one I would wear! Oh, and I nearly forgot their cream blush in Sob is possibly my most worn ever- these are some big statements for me.

City Grey M&S

I have recently been really gravitating to this slightly boring (in a good way) colours and its probably due to the less than beautiful weather we have been experiencing here in London. I have had this colour for a while and has got quite a lot of wear out of it. The quality is one of the best ones I have; applies well, dries quickly and only needs two coats for a perfect finish!

I think the M&S makeup range gets over looked but is actually better than you would expect I have my eye on the most beautiful pink lipstick which I wanted to pick up over the weekend but the queues in Westfield were too long.

What have you tried from the M&S cosmetic range?

Diego Dalla Palma Snow White & The Huntsman

Set to release next month is the new film Snow White and the Huntsman which is deemed to be the biggest box office hit of the year apparently. Universal film is collaboration with Diego Dalla Palma to celebrate the 100th anniversary. The palette created is made up of six very wearable eyeshadow colours, a full size lipstick ad a lip pencil.

The palette has six eyeshadow shades three shimmers and three matte
Top (Shimmer) Snow, Shield and mirror mirror
Bottom (matte) Fairest, Destiny and battleground

Sadly I am a little disappointed with the eyeshadows I was expecting more pigment from three of the six shades. The lighter colours don't offer as much intensity as I thought they would as individually diego dalla palma eyeshadows are quite expensive. My favourite colour is Mirror Mirror its a beautiful burnt brown with a beautiful sheen.

I was very happy to see the black 01 eyeliner in the set, I have actually had this eyeliner in the past and it is one of my favourites as it is so soft although it does mean it gets small really quickly

Another really exciting product is the Lipstick in 200- The Wicked Queen which is a very pretty true blue red, I think the ddp lipsticks are all quite nice.

This palette retails for £25 although the total value is £105 in terms of that I think we can all agree in this palette is a bargain but I have a few little problems with it. I personally won't be keeping the lipstick or eyeliner in the palette and therefore it takes up a lot of room to simply house the six eyeshadow. I'm not sure how but I might have a go at depotting them, I think the lipstick and eyeliner are really good but some of the eyeshadows could be better.

This palette is available from Tescos and also have a look at the other diego dalla palma products I currently have my eye on the blush and a few of the bright lipstick.

Nails Inc 2012

You may have seen that on Saturday I tried to post a Nails Inc post sadly it some how got delete rather than uploaded and I haven't had time since to write it. Last month I attend the Nails Inc Blogger event but unsurprisingly I had no battery on my camera so was unable to take any photos. They were showing new and upcoming collections which I thought I would also share with you....

Nail Jewellery
Although I have stopped wearing quite as much glitter polish (I just think its too time consuming to remove) this range is beautiful! It has four shades of glitter polish which look fantastic on top of other colours.

One of the big nail trends this season is Neon Polishes, this range is made of six colours and Nails Inc are currently offering a Neon & Nude manicure which I will be attempting to recreate soon, so keep an eye out.

They also have a range of four neon crackle polishes if you are after some.

Sprinkles Collection

I think this was the collection I was most excited about, a lot of people were comparing this range to the Caviar nails by Ciate however I believe it is very different and I actually prefer this polish.

There are four shades in this collection a pastel grey, blue, teal and pink. This applies surprisingly nice with simply two coats however it is very hard to remove!

Juicy Sheers

This seems to me to be the most unusual collection, it is made up of simply two shades Chelsea Flower Show which is an orange sheer colour and Henley Regatte (right) which is a pink sheer shade.

I am yet to try this colour out but I am lead to believe that although they are sheer they are buildable to a more opaque colour.

My Current WIshlist

I have an incredably long list of products to review but instead I have chosen to dedicate this post to product I don't have and that I am lusting over.

1, Jemma Kidd Light as Air Foundation- I am going to blame this on Vivianna does Makeup (along with the lust for the Laura Mercier Blush and the Caudalie Beauty Elixir) as it was featured in her monthly favourites. It is suppose to very light weight but with decent coverage but best of all it is apparently invisible on the skin!

2. Topshop Makeup- I do have a few bits and pieces from Topshop but I bought it back when it first launched and since then I have heard such fabulous stuff. I did have a lipstick which I did end up giving away as I found it quite drying- are they all a little drying?

3. Caudalie Beauty Elixir- Everyone has been talking about this! I am really looking for the perfect skincare routine and think this might really help me achieve it, the price is putting me off a little if I am honest.

4. Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour- I went into Space NK recently to try on the LM Mineral Powder foundation but I think my skin at the moment is just too dry. However I have eye on the blushers, they have such pretty natural colours!

5.Bourjois Magic Nail Polish Remover- (Is that what it is even called?) Apparently this removed all nail polish very quickly which doesn't sound essential for removing all polish but if it removes glitter polish I am sold!

6. Bioderma- This is a beauty favourite with pretty much everyone however I am yet to try it, really hoping my mother will pick me up a bottle when she goes to Paris next month. What else should I ask her to pick up whilst in France, what products can we not get in the UK?

Glossy Box April 2012- Natural Box

Although there already so many videos and blog posts (these bloggers really are on the ball!) about the April Glossy Box I thought I would still share my opinions and the content of my box.

This months box is slightly different (I like different Glossy Box's) it is the Natural Box as this month is Earth Month and the box itself is even biodegradable.

So on to the good stuff, what is inside...

Figs & Rouge Lip Balm
Philip B Drop Dead Straightening Balm

Overall the box is really good even though I am not really a person that looks to natural brands. I was planning to set this out as a good and bad post but surprisingly I am not disappointed with anything, although I do have favourites.

The packaging for the Figs & Rouge lip balm made me float instantly towards it and I have been using it since I received the box; it smells nice, has beautiful packaging and is very hydrating. Since I have very dehydrated skin I am looking forward to working my way throughthe Caudalie serum and even though the Inika lip liner isn't a colour I would usually chose I do think its a lovely product.

My two least favourite products (although I don't dislike them) are the Ayurri Body Wash simply because I see body washes as an essential rather than a luxury, I also know I won't get any use out of the Philip B straightening balm as I don't actually straighten my hair.

Of course Glossy Box's aren't all the same and there are a few product which I would have preferred that I have seen in other boxes but its all about luck really. The Burts Bees body lotion and the Monu cream also sound like great products!

Hi everyone!

I hope you are all well and not too bothered by the rain!
Its been a whole week since I last blogged and I though I would justify my absence a little (even though I know I don't have to.) If you are/have been to uni you know that there is always one month every term that is much harder then the rest of the time, its filled with deadline and exams- sadly this week and the next few weeks is that time.

I know lots of you are also doing coursework and revising for exams so good luck!
I finish uni (for this year) on 15th May and I am so excited I have lots planned both on the blog as well as in general life which means until then there will be a few less blog posts and I hope you all understand.

I will be taking today to write a few posts since my next deadline is only Monday
but...

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters

One of the most spoken about lipstick range of the moment (or maybe a month or so back) is the Revlon Lip butters. I personally love Revlon and it is one of my favourite drugstore brands so I was excited to try one of these for myself. Revlon Lip butters are suppose to be a cross between a lipstick and a lip balm but many people were saying they were actually as pigmented as a lipstick.

The colour I have is Strawberry Shortcake which is a pretty light pink colour, it has a lot of pigment for a lip balm but I wouldn't say it is as pigmented as a lipstick. This colour is not one I would usually go for, even being quite moisturising it still highlights the imperfections in my lips but I don't think this is true across the whole range but just with this colour.

I think that these Lip butters are a decent product, nothing amazing but not a huge disappointment either. I would still be interested in checking out some other shades as it was possible the shade that meant I wasn't crazy about this product. I think the packaging is a little tacky but that isn't really a big deal.

Shu Uemura eyelash curlers- BuyaPowa

After much browsing and a little encouragement from Zara & Barabara I finally made my first purchase from BuyaPowa and could potentially be the new owner of a pair of Shu Uemura Eyelash curlers for as little as £14.50 . I think that is a bargain plus I don't understand how I can be a beauty blogger and not own these!

Glossy Box for Men Spring 2012

This month I received my first Glossy Box for men although I believe there has been a couple before this one. There are a few differences between this one and the Glossy box aimed at women.
1) It has seven luxury samples instead of 5
2) It costs £15 (instead of £10) plus P&P
3) It comes out quarterly

The box itself is a greyish colour, actually quite nice and classic- I may even prefer it to the pink Glossy Box. Inside it includes the usual card explaining the products and seven products. It is so nice and very exciting to see a full Glossy Box, I think having seven samples rather than five really adds to the excitement!

Inside there are some products which I think are great for this box and a let down. I think it was lovely to see lots of products aimed at shaving as this is the one thing almost all men do, they may not use face masks and exfoliate but the majority shave. I thought the Liz Earle product was the most impressive product as it is a great range but the hand sanitiser was a let down. The main problem I had was the fact the hand sanitiser was lavender scented- because that's the most manly smell, isn't it?!

I handed this box over to my boyfriend to see his views on the Glossy Box from a mans perspective, please remember he isn't a beauty blogger...

Packaging

The best feature of the Glossy Box is its packaging. Its aesthetically pleasing exterior box is complemented well by the black tissue paper that wraps the products inside. Its little details like the ribbon bow that make this product worth buying. Inside, I received a letter explaining the ethos of the company and the quality of the products which I thought was a nice touch.

Products
Even though I’m no metro sexual male the products themselves were quite pleasant to use. The body moisturiser and the hand sanitiser were fairly sized and had strangely addictive scents to them. I particularly enjoyed the ‘Alum matchsticks, after shave astringents’ simply because I never knew these existed and I’ve already noticed a visible improvement in the calming of my razor burns. Perhaps the after shave perfume could have been slightly larger in volume and it doesn’t have the greatest aroma ever.

Overall
I received this product with scepticism, however upon using them it has dented my perception of male grooming products without altering my characteristics as a man. If it had a razor the Glossy Box would have been perfect, even so I would recommend buying it.

I can't see very many men buying this themselves but it would make a great present to any man in your life!

Look Beauty Flamingo Nail Polish

I feel that it is officially time to take out all my Spring/Summer Nail polishes even though it is really cold in London today! A while ago at the Look Makeup Launch I was given this nail polish in Flamingo, if I am completely honest I was disappointed at first. I thought it was going to be a light pink shade, almost like a french manicure colour but when I applied it I was pleasantly surprised! It remind me of Barry M Peach Melba which was my most used polish last summer.

This is a beautiful coral colour which is quite bright and would look ridiculously pretty in the summer!

These retail for £5 and are available from Superdrugs and surprisingly I would really recommend this colour! I will be wearing this every other day this summer, I am sure!

Bourjois Sienne Blush

I blogged last week about my new Bourjois Blushers and out of the three my current favourite is Sienne, usually I like pink blushers with slight gold shimmer however since I bought it I have been reaching for this one.

Sienne is a baked blusher in quite a nude colour, it's such a difficult colour to describe but is basically a warm brownish pink colour but is far nicer than it sounds. I don't really like bronzer so I love that this is still quite a brown shade without being an actual bronzer. It has no real shimmer but is a satin finish which I love, I have been wearing it with and without fake tan so I would say it works on most skin tones although the pigmentation isn't quite a good as I would like but at least you don't apply too much. It has the usual rose scent that Bourjois blushers have which I like but may not be for you if you have sensitive skin.

I really love this blush and it adds the most perfect glow, will blog about the other ones soon.

Easter OOTD

I hope you are all well and had a fabulous long weekend!
I really want to start posting outfit of the days more often and now that my boyfriend has an iPhone I am sure you will see lots more on instagram (a_littleobsessed)

Thought I would quickly share my Easter Sunday outfit which although is nothing special I do like.

I love this blouse and is one of my more recent purchases, it is from Zara and has little horses on it, it also has studs down the shoulders but I wasn't smart enough to take a photo with no jacket on.

I paired it with a pair of H&M shorts which have been in my wardrobe for a while but don't get enough wear and my everyday Miss Selfridge Jacket as well as my Aldo handbag. The shoes are M&S and amazingly comfortable although they are pretty big for me (I really should purchase some insoles). Sunglasses are new and from H&M for just £5, I was also going to wear a really pretty H&M necklace however sadly it was broken when I bought it.

Nail Polish Tag

Since I have been watching more YouTube videos (and even made a few) I have really been getting back into tags but they aren't quite as common on blogs so when I say Makeup Savoys nail polish tag I really had to give it a go myself!

1. What's your favourite nail polish company?

I don't really have a favourite and I reach more for the colour over the brand but I do have a lot of Nails Inc polish, a lot of them were given to me but I still reach for them more than I reach for any of the other colours I own. Saying that I do think they are a little expensive and there are lots of drugstore brands I love to. I use to love Barry M nail paints however I now have every colour I would want so I never actually buy any from them.

2. Glitter or no glitter? 

I went through I stage where I loved glitter polishes but the face they are difficult to remove puts me off and I now stick to regular polishes most of the time.

3. OPI, China Glaze, or Essie?

I only own one Essie nail polish and one Chine Glaze polish so this judgement isn't based on much but I love the mini OPI polishes as I think they are such a great way to have various colours for a fraction of the price.

4. When do you change your nail polish? 

Once upon a time I use to change my nail polish every single day but I am so glad I stopped that. It is time consuming and dries out your nails, I now paint my nails about every 3-5 days depending on the condition they are in or if I need a new post.

5. What's your favourite colour on your nails? 

Usually I like nude polishes but if I had to go for a colour it would be blue or purple- I'm not sure why I just think they look nice and unique.

6. Darks or brights? 

Darks in the winter and brights in the summer.

7. What are you wearing on your nails right this moment? 

I currently have on my Easter nails but a far more chipped version, I need to paint them later today.

8. Matt nails in or out?

Out- no question about it.

9. French Manicure?

I am really not sure how I feel about french manicures, I'm not usually a fan but whilst on holiday I usually get it on my hands and toes.

10. Favourite summer colours?

Revlon Minted (might be limitedd edition), Illamasqua Jo'Mina, H&M Blue My Mind, Ciate Ditch the Heels, Barry M Peach Melba and Jessica Bikini Blue

Happy Easter!

I hope you are all well and having a fabulous Easter!

I thought today was a great day to show you this really lovely Easter decorations from Gabby Bazaar, although it is a little late it is worth having a look at the store for the lovely jewellery and keeping an eye out for other festive decorations. These are perfect for Christmas trees and any other festive trees- they are very affordable and very cute!
