But this particular list of anime character deaths aims to surpass shock value. This is more about the impact, the narrative weight, and the anime fandom’s reaction.

We also look into the cultural or historical echo. One that goes beyond the anime realm.

The entry could be a known anime tragedy or one that gave the best anime death scenes. Still, these top anime deaths we ranked showcase highly emotional and iconic anime deaths. Those images that made us cry and still hurt even after years or decades have passed.

#15 - Sasha Braus – Attack on Titan

After the chaos in Marley, the Scouts escape by airship. It’s one of those rare moments in Attack on Titan where you can breathe again. The mission was successful. Everyone is exhausted. Some are even laughing.

Sasha sits there like she always does, grounded and familiar, still the same girl who once treated food like treasure and jokes like armor.

Then the airship door opens.

Gabi and Falco manage to board, fueled by rage and disbelief. Everything turns ugly in seconds. Guns out. Panic. Shouting.

A single shot lands.

Sasha slumps. The atmosphere changes instantly. The kind of silence that feels like a void.

She’s still awake long enough to speak.

And then she’s gone.

Why does it hurt more when the cheerful ones die?

#12 - The death of Night Raid members - Akame Ga Kil

Night Raid is introduced like a squad you can latch onto. They’re dangerous, but they’re the “good” dangerous. They feel like the people who might survive because they’re the main characters.

Then the show starts taking them away... One by one.

One mission goes wrong. Someone gets separated. A fight turns fatal. A sacrifice happens too soon. An execution arrives without mercy.

Sheele was the first to go. While protecting Mine, she made herself vulnerable to an already stealthy and lethal attack. Then the dog dismembers her.

Next was Bulat. Handsome, strong, gentleman, and gay. A BL alternative love interest for Tatsumi. He was able to kill seemingly OP opponents, but fell due to poison.

And the pattern becomes clear.

Chelsea also died and became the tragic meme poster of the show. She has a unique way of killing, but she just went after the wrong opponent. Her head was paraded on a stick in a public park as a government’s show of power.

Mine’s fate crushes fans of the manga as she perished in the anime.

Lubbock’s death shocked us in a different way. He gave a good fight, and we’re rooting for him despite death shadowing over. He killed his opponent, but ultimately fell to his death. We watched it extremely hurt, and with our eyes closed.

We just didn’t expect that Tatsumi, the one with the protagonist POV would die in the anime, too.

Leone is the only one who chose how she would die. See this discussion on Reddit. Still, it gave the audience a lonely scene to remember.

Clearly, this isn’t a story where courage guarantees survival.

Why are the deaths in Akame ga Kill painful?

Because the show trains you to care, then punishes you for it.

The members don’t die in a neat, cinematic way that feels “fair.” They die like soldiers in a real revolution. Mid-plan. Mid-hope. Mid-sentence.

But their relationship? At its peak of development.

Friendship tested, sacrifices made, then after a long while of separation and uncertainty, they’ve been reunited.

But then, Killua dies. No beautiful corpse to hug. Not even his soul was saved.

Now, tell us. How does it hurt?

Teito Klein, the main character of the 07 Ghost series, was an academy underdog who only had Mikage Celestine by his side. They made a promise to always stick together and be the best of friends.

However, Teito has a mission of his own — assassinate the Barsburg Army’s chief of staff. Unfortunately, it was a failed attempt, and he had to flee or die. Mikage helped him escape and asked to be left behind, thinking he would be left untouched.

Little did they know that the evil within the institution could do unimaginable things to get what they want.

Mikage was tortured, which was more apparent in the 07 Ghost anime than in the manga.

His soul, half-possessed by an entity called Kor.

Kor is an entity that takes over those who trade their souls for shortcuts — power, wealth, or even love. It manifests in the form of two skeletal wings growing out of its host’s back. A special holy scythe is used to exorcise and save the victims.

Mikage’s case is different, and we’ll explain it soon.

The poor friend was then used to track Teito, who sought sanctuary in Barsburg Church, living with the bishops.

When they met, we knew it was an anime tragedy brewing. For a moment, it feels like everything might be okay. Teito must be very excited, but Mikage isn’t saying anything yet.

Eventually, it was revealed that Mikage only has half of his soul left and will soon cease to exist.

The two had a brief moment together, and Mikage’s last request is:

Listen to me while my voice is still able to reach you, okay? First, don't make the imperial army your enemy. Revenge produces nothing in the end. Even if you hate someone enough to kill them, you won't be saved from it. Always face forward. Walk down the path that has the light. Secondly, you're terrible at accepting other people's kindness and opening yourself up... but you're my best friend. I always pray for your happiness. I'll always be by your side. Don't forget that... I can't return to the imperial army either. I have one last request... Kill me, Teito.

After bidding his final goodbye, Mikage became aggressive, as his body and mind were taken over by his tormentor, Ayanami. He grew a wing on his back, different from other Kors who have two wings.

If that lone wing was cut, the possessed person would die. There’s no saving the victim.

In the end, Ayanami made Mikage throw himself into Frau’s scythe, leading to his end.

Teito rushed to a crumbling Mikage, and they shared their final hug.

Why does Mikage’s death still hurt?

The animation showed how Teito tried to piece back Mikage’s disintegrating essence and feel the remainder of his friend’s body until it’s completely gone.

It’s almost like that scene in One Piece where Luffy rolled on the floor, hating himself, thinking all his crew died, when it’s just actually Kuma’s teleportation ability.

Teito fell into a great depression after these events, and we wanted to do the same. It was a mix of strong emotions that haunted us for days — deep loneliness, rage, and the fear of loving someone only to lose them in the end, in such an unfair way.

We held back the tears as Teito confessed that when Mikage died, it felt like a part of him had died as well. He also admitted that it’s hard to go on without his bestfriend.

Think of losing the only light you had in this dark, cruel world.

Still, the color of his soul will be in our hearts forever.

#10 - Neji Hyuga - Naruto Shippuden

The Fourth Great Ninja War escalates into something chaotic and massive, and suddenly, everyone is fighting for survival in a battlefield that doesn’t feel like the Naruto world anymore. It feels like a meat grinder.

During the Ten-Tails assault, attacks rain down too fast for anyone to fully react. Naruto and Hinata are in the middle of it. There’s a split-second where protection is the only thing that matters.

Neji moves. No dramatic build-up. No long goodbye speech first.

He shields them and takes the hit.

The moment is quick, but the consequence is permanent.

Why is Neji’s death painful?

It closes the story of a character who fought destiny his whole life.

Neji started as someone trapped by fate and bitterness, and slowly became someone who chose his own meaning.

So when he dies protecting someone else, the show frames it as a resolution.

But the fandom feels conflicted.

Some people see beauty in it. Others feel he was used as a plot device.

Either way, it hurts because Neji’s arc deserved more time to breathe.

#9 - Kyojuro Rengoku - Demon Slayer

Set your heart ablaze.

That line quickly became a cultural moment.

Set in the Taisho era, humanity only has their raw strength, blessed swords, and sunlight to fight the growing terror caused by flesh-eating demons.

To counter them, the show gave us a pure-hearted protagonist. He’s likable and very promising. His sibling and his friends who fought alongside him also had great designs.

But wait until you meet the Hashiras. They each have their own flair. Their intro is not as flashy as it happened in the most boring way possible — a meeting. Still, the whole thing was badass.

After showing the difference between Kamado Tanjiro and the lower moon demons’ strength vs Hashiras, the story quickly shifts to the Mugen Train arc, where things start to get serious.

In the film, Rengoku accepts the task of investigating a train believed to be haunted by a demon.

He crossed paths with Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke, and saved every passenger from Enmu, the remainder of the lower moon demons who received a considerable amount of boost from the demon lord, Muzan Kibutsuji.

Just when they thought it was over, Akaza, the #3 upper-ranked demon, appeared and battled it out with Rengoku.

Although fatally wounded, Rengoku tries to make a final death blow on Akaza. Unfortunately, the demon was able to escape, and a few minutes later, we found the whole theater crying.

Why does Rengoku’s death still hurt?

So far, the Flame Hashira’s death is the saddest moment in Kimetsu no Yaiba.

Rengoku’s death is a masterclass in emotional pacing.

He enters Demon Slayer: Mugen Train as vibrant, passionate, larger than life. And within hours, he’s gone — but not before giving Tanjiro and the audience a blueprint for strength and honor.

His death alone is indeed depressing, as the whole theater reacted very sadly to it. People went out still with tissues, and their grief was apparent in their comments on Reddit and Twitter.

But it isn’t just that.

We were on the edge of our seats as a furious Tanjiro went after Akaza, threw his sword, and dealt him a blow. The demon still escaped, and the main character’s frustration was passed on to the audience.

As his flame dies, we made sure to see him avenged, and many of us carry it up to this day.

#8 - Nina Tucker - Full Metal Alchemist

The kind of death that hurts and enrages.

Four-year-old Nina quickly developed a rapport with the main characters Edward and Alphonse Elric, while they sought more bio-alchemy knowledge through the notes and resources of her father, Shou Tucker. In a matter of days, the brothers got close to her and started seeing her as a younger sister.

Nina confided that her loneliness is due to her mother abandoning her when she was younger. But the true sinister background in this story is that her mother died as an unwilling test subject in her father’s experiment.

Somewhere in the story, Nina attempts to console her depressed father, who is increasingly becoming anxious about losing his license. However, these reinsurances only woke up the man who engaged in vile chimerical experiments.

While the Elrics are gone, Shou fused Nina with the household dog, Alexander, in a procedure called transmutation.

Edward realizes the horror and attempts to kill Shou because of what he has done. However, Nina pleaded with him to spare his father. In the end, the Elrics left and reported the incident to Colonel Mustang.

As a result, Shou Tucker was placed under house arrest while waiting for further development on his case.

How Nina Tucker’s fate enraged the anime fandom?

Even though the Elrics showed mercy, Shou Tucker’s time is numbered. His perversion of humanity attracted Scar, a vigilante who targets State Alchemists.

Scar made it to his home and assassinated him for the crimes he had committed.

Using his Destruction Alchemy, he broke down the Chimera’s insides, killing Nina Tucker instantly. This was done as a gesture of mercy-killing, as he offered a prayer after the deed. He believed that the state Nina was in would only bring more pain and suffering to the former human.

Although Scar was the one who ended Nina Tucker’s life, the fandom unleashed their fury on the father, who did the unimaginable.

While memes joked around Shou Tucker, earning the “father of the year” award, the internet’s true sentiment on this unforgettable anime tragedy he orchestrated is pure anger.

#7 - Itachi Uchiha – Naruto Shippuden

Sasuke spends years chasing Itachi. The hatred becomes his identity. The whole story builds toward that confrontation.

If you haven’t watched the Studio Ghibli film, go watch it now, as we’ll dig deep into the deaths of these young ones. The “if-onlys” and the “could-have-beens” whispered to us a lot as we reached its end, so you'd better brace yourself as well.

The film made us appreciate the current peace we’re having.

When firebombs start dropping, everyone loses. But it’s not just a simple loss of life.

Some people suffer consequences, the crazy ones we’ll probably never experience, while world leaders continue to choose diplomacy.

War. Starvation. Innocence lost.

Setsuko and Seita represent some of the young souls who perished in World War II.

Their mother died first after being caught in an air raid. As a result, they lived with their Auntie, who started out to be a nice one, but she ended up being someone you’d hate seeing.

General poverty due to war can do a lot of ugly things to people. However, we think that Seita’s decision to leave with his sister is a mistake.

Still, it’s not something you can say to someone enduring an abusive household for some time. It’s hard to see your Aunt completely overriding her image of safety with nothing but resentment, or maybe selfishness.

Although they have inherited money, Seita’s decision only led to days of starvation.

What most people don’t understand is that money can be worthless in a war-torn country.

Seita had to steal and rush to get food to save his emaciated little sister.

Why are Seita and Setsuko’s deaths painful?

Setsuko’s death is often cited by critics and scholars as one of the most heartbreaking moments in animated film history. It’s not dramatic. It’s not explosive. It’s painfully realistic.

And death didn’t come quickly for her.

Seita took a gravely sick Setsuko to the doctor. When she lifted up her shirt, it revealed her severely malnourished stomach. Ribs are clearly visible.

The doctor clearly stated the obvious. Setsuko must eat, but he couldn’t tell Seita where to get food.

Near the end of the film, Seita finds Setsuko collapsed on the floor. Bugs appeared, which also happened when their mother died.

Just when you thought Setsuko was dead, she’s actually not. Still, she was fragile, exhausted, and hallucinating.

Then her death scene happened, and some viewers admitted they’d do anything to unsee it.

When Seita finally had food to give her, Setsuko ate the watermelon his brother gave her. Setsuko fell asleep and never woke up.

The war was over, and the value of money came back.

Still, Seita died a few weeks later in a train station from starvation, with no one around him.

His death gave the impression that Setsuko’s death was more peaceful. It symbolizes how deadly war could be, even if you were lucky to survive the bullets and the explosions.

However, Seita’s death is more troubling.

It sends a message that even after war, things won’t revert to what they were in a snap of a finger. The damage is done. The trauma is so real that no peace treaty can save someone like Seita from his fate.

#3 - Lelouch Lamperouge – Code Geass

Lelouch builds his empire through rebellion, lies, and strategy, and by the end, he’s sitting on a throne that feels more like a prison than a victory.

He becomes the enemy that the world can agree to hate.

Then he sets the stage.

Zero returns. A public execution. A blade in front of everyone. No escape. No twist in the moment.

Lelouch is killed in front of the world.

And the world cheers.

Why is Lelouch’s death painful?

We laughed many times, we worried about Luffy, and we also cheered for him. Boa Hancock’s scenes are golden. Our power scale meter is up as Whitebeard wipes the floor with the Marine Vice Admirals and captains. One of his subordinates crossed blades with Mihawk. We also see Ivankov throwing winks here and there.

Then there’s Ace, with their grandfather Monkey D. Garp sitting there and eventually joining the fight. If we assume correctly, we know no one dies in One Piece.

Something that’s really absurd is going to happen, or so we thought. Luffy got past the admirals. Ace is saved with the help of Mr. 3. The cuffs are off. The escape is happening.

Then Akainu speaks.

Not with fists at first, but with words. He attacks Ace’s pride. He insults Whitebeard. He calls his captain weak.

Just like that, Ace turns back. That single decision seals it.

Ace is just that kind of guy. No one insults people he respects and just gets away with it. In a different world, we’d court and marry him.

Akainu aims for Luffy, and Ace steps in front of it. The hit lands. No haki, no devil fruit shenanigans. The damage is irreversible.

Ace collapses in Luffy’s arms.

The scene doesn’t rush. It forces you to sit there with him.

Why is Ace’s death painful?

Portgas D. Ace dying in front of Luffy wasn’t just a character death. It was a turning point for One Piece as a whole. The optimistic pirate adventure suddenly felt mortal. Real. Dangerous.

#1 - Jiraiya – Naruto Shippuden

If you grew up with Naruto, then you didn’t just lose a character.

You lost a teacher.

Imagine being a child no one wanted. No parents. No guidance. No one believed you were more than a nuisance. Then one day, someone walks into your life and treats you like you matter.

That was Jiraiya.

He wasn’t perfect. He was pervy. Loud. Reckless. But he trained Naruto when no one else would. He believed in him when the village didn’t. He saw the potential inside a kid everyone labeled as a monster.

He wasn’t just teaching Rasengan.

He was teaching worth.

Then came the Rain Village mission.

Jiraiya didn’t go there blindly. He suspected something. Whispers of a mysterious leader called “Pain.” A shadow organization is growing too bold.

Then he saw the truth.

Nagato.

The boy he once trained. The child who believed in peace is now standing as a god of destruction.

But it wasn’t just one body.

Pain appeared again.

If you were watching that fight weekly, you would remember the dread. Every time Jiraiya figured something out, the show would reveal something worse.

Yes, we heard the better version of that Billie Eilish song. "What Was I Made For?” was written for the Barbie film, but cats would get whatever they want to get.

That’s because in every place, even in the world of anime, cats occupy a special tier. It doesn’t matter if there’s no shortage of memorable animals. Cats and anime girls who purr and meow a lot will stand out.

This time, we’ll list down ten of the most iconic cats in anime. Many anime characters had neko moments, but no, they won’t be sitting close to these highly optimized beings.

We’ll discuss how they are strongly remembered by otakus, hence earning a spot on our very quick top ten list.

#10- Beerus from Dragon Ball

Is Beerus a cat?

Now that you see his name here, you probably know that this God of Destruction from the popular Dragon Ball series is indeed a purple, anthropomorphic cat with the ability to destroy worlds (as per the official data book).

To prove further that he is, Beerus was modeled after the 14-year-old cat who lived with the late mangaka, Akira Toriyama. However, this cat named Debo is a Cornish Rex, not a Sphynx, which is what many would have believed because of some images of cosplay cats that went viral online.

Despite all this confusion, whether Beerus is a cat or what, he made it in our top 10 list because of his purry good portrayal that signifies cats as creatures of destruction.

#9 - Baron Humbert von Gikkingen from Whisper of the Heart / The Cat Returns

The Baron is another anthropomorphic feline in this list. He is basically elegance personified. Baron Humbert von Gikkingen is that storybook hero in a collab, because we aren’t sure if his noble and charismatic persona fits the cat stereotype and anime exaggerations.

The Baron’s refined demeanor contrasts beautifully with the chaos around him and the pronunciation of his name. That’s what made every scene he appears in feel special.

#8 - Artemis from Sailormoon

Although Artemis plays a crucial supporting role, which has lesser narrative weight than his soulmate, Luna, he is a remarkable anime cat. A timeless mascot from the 90s era, a time when we had no Netflix, and only had very limited anime content to watch. If you came from that golden epoch, you must have met Luna, the black cat, and also the emotional backbone of Sailor Moon.

If we think about timeless cats in anime, Luna is the one that pops up in our minds, along with a few others. However, her role as a mentor to Usagi and as a battle tactician gave her that unmatched narrative weight.

Jiji represents the quiet loss of childhood innocence. His early sarcasm and constant presence grounded Kiki, making us want to take home a black cat. However, we won’t forget how his eventual silence gave us an emotional hit, and I think it’s one of the most memorable moments that Studio Ghibli gave us. It was heartbreaking and painful. I would cry if one day my talkative cat stopped nagging at me. I assume this is what my Siamese cat is doing.

Jiji is permanently engraved in our hats. Lol. Even when I see a meowing ginger cat, I still see him.

A cat that talks, hangs out with loveable villains, and pays its master?

There’s no other cat that fits the description but this adorable Pokémon Meowth of Team Rocket (because there are many Meowths out there in the grass).

Apart from fan favorites like Pikachu, Meowth stands out because of its uniqueness. When I was a little kid, I was relieved to know that there was a Pokémon that could actually talk back. I don’t care if it’s going to be mean, after all, it’s a cat, but having one like Meowth as a companion checks all the boxes a kid wants from a pet.

Meowth’s loyalty to his team, despite constant failure, makes him oddly sympathetic. That’s why we’re one of the happiest when Team Rocket finally beats Ash fair and square after 20 years.

With thousands of episodes and several movies, Doraemon is certainly an unforgettable and timeless cat character in the history of anime. He is a resourceful robot from the future, with many gadgets that solve both old-world and modern problems.

Although he has everything we’d want, he was able to forge a deep bond with the lazy, clumsy, and unlucky boy protagonist. This led to a problem-solution theme, which gave the creators plenty of content angles to exploit.

As we grow older with the anime series, we realize that the show is beyond comedy, cool gadgets we wish we had, and getting back at our bullies. Some of its episodes taught us about friendship, love for family, enemies can become friends, the harsh realities of adult life, and more. Many of them are tear-jerkers, and all those important life realizations some otakus look back to won’t exist if not for a robo cat named Doraemon.

Catching Up On One Piece Anime. Our One Piece Anime Journey So Far.

Do you belong to the otaku demographic who keep juggling work, business, and leisure in this very short human lifespan that we have? If you heard of One Piece anime or watched the first arcs when you were younger and are craving to catch up, it's never too late.

Whether you want to start from the humble beginnings of the Straw Hat crew or resume from the Water 7 Arc, where you last stopped, which was our case, we'd like to tell you that it's possible!

"Oh, but I have a job or a business that needs attending to..."

We're telling you again. It is very possible.

If you think you don't have enough time to binge-watch a show that's already more than 1000 episodes, we want you to think again.

Where We're At On One Piece Anime

In two months, I watched One Piece Water 7 arc to the Fish Man Island arc (Episodes 229-541). That's a total of 312 episodes for a busy guy who was also able to finish Squid Games Season 3 and watch Final Destination: Bloodline with my whole crew.

It had been a rollercoaster of emotions, and we're proud of ourselves as we're proud of the Mugiwara crew for achieving so much.

At our pace, we can catch up to the latest episodes of One Piece in a matter of 3-4 months.

Let's share with you our case:

We actually did not list a program of arcs to watch. However, we know a filler as soon as it plays on our screen, so we either skip some scenes or the episode entirely. In the previous article, we mentioned the filler arcs that may be worth skipping unless you are not keen on catching up quickly.

Enies Lobby, Impel Down, and Marineford arcs will keep you up at night, and I don't think you'll feel burnt out if you binge-watch their episodes. Once a One Piece arc has concluded, maybe it's time for you to take a well-deserved rest.

Tip No.5: Engaging With the Community

The community is already talking past the Wano arc, so it's not actually wise for someone like us who doesn't want to get spoiled to engage with the community. However, it may work for you, so go for it. Just be careful of One Piece spoilers.

Now, let's continue with our additional tips.

Tip No. 6: Find A Push To Watch One Piece

First, there must be some sort of motivation. It's always harder at the beginning. While One Piece is one of the best anime out there, you still need to convince yourself whether it is worth your time or not. After all, some of us are busy hustlers in our late 20s or early to late 30s. Our time is precious, so justification is crucial if you want to reach the end.

Let us give you a few samples of motivation and move forward from there:

As an otaku, you shouldn't miss one of the world's best and longest-running anime stories ever written. Even if you are no longer the type who jumps on trends, watching One Piece is a life achievement you can secretly gift to yourself.

Monkey D. Luffy is actually a chasmic protagonist. While we laugh at him with his stupid gags, his happy-go-lucky persona conceals a level of understanding beyond expectations. He will surprise you with his seemingly-moronic decisions that always turn out to be the only and lasting solution to a complex problem. Lastly, we gained a realization of what true strength can accomplish from him.

Parts of the anime show subtly relate to our world's corrupt and evil governments, as well as the character development, uprisings, and revolutions they have given birth to. While we haven't reached some of the biggest revelations, it's clear to us that some of the One Piece characters' motivations have been shaped by the wicked history, which seems to be tainted by the victors of the past war. If you don't mind politics and world events, One Piece will be able to deliver this reality in its unique version. Damn PR angling is strong on this one, too!

Will One Piece End Soon?

Another reason to watch One Piece now is its upcoming conclusion. You'd want to be on top before the hype and lore reach their peak. While some of us introverts won't be using it as a conversation starter at a personal level, it's easier to engage with the online community once you've finally caught up.

According to creator Eiichiro Oda, the One Piece anime and manga series is in its final saga. Although there's no definitive end date, the community speculates that it's 70% to 80% complete, based on interviews with the mangaka. Some even say that it's already 90%, although we at Otaku Fantasy think it's somewhere around 65-70% and will probably conclude in 2029 or 2030.

To sum up, we consider watching One Piece as a quicker way to self-reinforcement amid the tight deadlines and harsh realities that we endlessly navigate. It's not an irresponsible and thoughtless escape. It's more about consuming high-quality content that we can make use of in the future. Thus, watching One Piece is a thousand times better than doom-scrolling on social media, so remind yourself that you're better off with Luffy and the gang.

One Piece Anime 2025 Return Is In A Few Days: How To Catch Up

One Piece anime exactly had 1122 episodes before the editor-in-chief announced its hiatus. A little after that, fans quickly heard of its return date: April 6, 2025.

So, how's catching up on One Piece anime episodes?

If you feel sad and defeated that you haven't reached half of the hit anime series, don't fret. There are surely some otakus who wanted to gift themselves the joy of watching One Piece but have not started yet. Thus, they risk bumping into tons of Egghead arc spoilers from social media pages.

Whether you are five hundred episodes behind or stuck in the Alabasta arc, there's a way to watch all #1122 One Piece episodes without losing your sanity. This does not mean that you have to watch it continuously until you die from sleep deprivation or aneurysm.

How Much Time You Need To Watch #1122 One Piece Anime Episodes

Setting realistic expectations, let's compute how much time you need to watch the hit series completely. We will base it on an adult otaku, who can watch while doing home office work or business.

As announced last May 6, 2024, via the official Blue Lock PR page, the anime will start broadcasting in October of the same year. The announcement came with a surprise commemorative illustration from the mangaka Yusuke Nomura.

While the anime's new season hasn't arrived yet, you can watch Blue Lock: Episode Nagi, which is a spin-off movie that was released internationally on June 28. The film focuses on one of the core characters, Seishiro Nagi.

We know reverse harem to its core, and we sometimes wish that it's still a thing. However, with the world becoming less naughty by the minute, the team found a reverse hero genre in the upcoming anime Go Go Loser Ranger.

Upon reading its synopsis, we realized it fits our watchlist. With its first episode scheduled for April 7, 2024, we have enough time to convince others to join us in this anti-hero experiment.

Like Kaiju No. 8, Go! Go! Loser Ranger! was inspired by Tokusatsu media, particularly the Super Sentai series. Anyone who grew up on hero shows might want to follow the story of a character from the other side.

As far as we know, alien races like the Crisis Empire of Kamen Rider Black RX also have a form of government that attends to its citizens. To survive, they had to find a liveable space for their constituents: Earth. It is sad that co-existence is not in their leaders' vocabulary and that war for territory is their only option.

However, for someone caught in the middle like FootSoldier D, what they can only do is fight for their race. It's every being's instinct. Their children and kin are going to die either way, so they might as well fight.

We're excited to see its debut episode and how it will fall out. Will FootSoldier D succeed?

Recently, we've been out of touch with the current anime events. But even if we're not a hardcore news junkie as we were a few months ago, we are great with catching up.

Still, we caught wind of Kaiju No. 8, a really great manga that will soon hit your favorite streaming platforms. With its first episode scheduled for April 13, 2024, it's the best time to talk about this upcoming anime.

Kaiju No. 8 Plot

Set in a world plagued by strong and violent Kaiju, humans must put up a fight, or they'll face extinction. As a kaiju magnet since the Showa era (1966), Japan faces the most attacks. We're not surprised!

Thus, the country established the Anti-Kaiju Japanese Defense Force. Using materials looted from defeated Kaijus, the resistance could craft power suits and weapons. The stronger the Kaiju, determined by fortitude levels, the more powerful the armor.

Then we have the Daikaijus, which are the types of monsters with the highest fortitude levels. Their hides are so strong that the tools forged from them become weapons of platoon leaders. The Defense Force follows a typical hierarchy observed in government armies.

Kafka Hibino is a 32-year-old man who failed to join the Defense Force despite many attempts. Thus, he became a crew in the clean-up team, which disposed of remains and debris after a bloody battle. His day as a loser ended when a Kaiju entered his body through his mouth. From then on, he could access the Kaiju's powers at will. He became Kaiju No. 8, and as someone who retains his morale and decision-making capabilities despite being a Kaiju, Kafka must join the Defense Force to fulfill a dream and his promise while keeping his condition a secret.

If you think that the title relates to Ultraman, Godzilla, and other TOHO creations, that's because you're not wrong.

According to the author Naoya Matsumoto, he was inspired by the Ultraman series, particularly Ultraseven and Shin Godzilla. But if you're the all-or-nothing or career type, you might want to become a full-fledged anime fan, so here's a checklist on how to become a REAL otaku.

This 28-day otaku checklist guides newcomers and even those who have been fond of the culture for some time but have not delved deep enough to be considered a hardcore otaku.

With this anime resource checklist, you will be walked through the essentials of anime, manga, and beyond. After reaching the 28th day, you'll gain a deep appreciation and understanding of otaku culture. Whether you're into the intricate stories, the artistic styles, or the passionate community, this guide will help you embrace your inner otaku.

Generally, the word otaku is a Japanese term for nerds. It has an anti-social feel to it, and at some point in history, the word was tainted with negative connotations due to crimes of a nerdy murderer in Japan. But now that being an otaku is seen in a positive light, a new urban slang has emerged, confusing some community members for a short time – the weaboo tag.

Also called weeb, "weaboo" became a buzzword in 2020, alongside the pandemic. With social media platforms breaking boundaries and people left with nothing to do, new terms emerged here and there. Unbeknownst to many, the word weaboo was first mentioned in the early 2000s, so it is not that new anymore when it peaked.

So what's the difference between otaku and weaboo?

Otaku has a mild to strong liking for Japanese culture. The Western world sometimes uses "a man of culture" to describe adult otakus with good taste in content, while others consider themselves otaku if they grew old enough and still watch anime or play games.

Meanwhile, weaboo is a derogatory term for people with an unhealthy obsession with anime, games, or anything about Japanese culture. This interest and their activities affect their personal lives, social interaction, and perception of reality. However, internet users purposefully misuse the term and call everyone weaboo for fun or probably out of spite.

When it comes to games, official HxH releases are hard to find, particularly their English patch. Fans yearn for something that sticks to the source material, and we all hope that the newly announced game Nen X Impact will finally be the one!

Announced on its own Twitter social media platform, Hunter x Hunter: Nen X Impact was unveiled with a brief teaser showing characters Gon, Leorio, Netero, Killua, Kurapika, and Hisoka entering an arena and getting ready for a brawl.

There's no info about the gameplay of Nen X Impact, but judging the few seconds of the video and translation, it appears to be another fighting game. It's that time of the year when we must look back on our anime journey. Kouhais and Senpais who keep track of their otaku activities will use this reflection to set the bar high for next year.

So, how would you celebrate 2024?

Apart from the TokyoTreat munch, otakus will also celebrate with big recaps of what happened in the anime industry. For this article, we take a look back into the top 10 anime series that took 2023 by storm.

Runner-ups: Blue Lock, Hell's Paradise, Bleach, Trigun Stampede, Buddy Daddies, Rurouni Kenshin, and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.

Without further ado, let's begin the countdown.

#10 - Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre

In January 2023, twenty macabre pieces inspired by Junji Ito's eccentric and fascinating worldview became available on Netflix. Several fans of weird and creepy shows are already aware of Ito's masterpiece. However, when Netflix premiered some adaptations, it became more widely known.

#9 - Boruto

Love it or hate it, Boruto is an extension of one of our most beloved anime shows, Naruto. As most of the characters we followed are still in this series, we still need to know their fate, whether we watch the show or not. As we're still members of many Naruto groups, we saw how Sasuke's fate shook everyone, and it's why it's still one of the most talked about anime of the year.

#8 - Spy x Family

Spy x Family is another successful title that made waves in the anime realm. One of the best-selling manga with an anime adaptation that quickly won hearts because of its humor, storytelling, artwork, lovable characters, and action scenes; we can't deny the excitement of every otaku GC and group.

#7 - Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc

Though the fights weren't as exhilarating as Entertainment District Arc, Swordsmith Village still took the otaku world by storm. With stunning animation, breathtaking scenes, and the performance of pillars, we're left wanting more. Thankfully, it's one of the anime series that will continue next year.

#6 - Yu Yu Hakusho

While the anime had already taken its final vow, Yoshihiro Togashi's creation made it to the headlines again because of a Netflix live-action adaptation aired only a few weeks ago. It carried the old animation back to the table, and the younger generation is now curious about Hunter x Hunter's predecessor.

#5 - Zom 100: Bucketlist of The Dead

Netflix is doing a good job with its live actions so far. One of these titles includes Zom 100: Bucketlist of The Dead. However, the anime entered an indefinite hiatus after they faced challenges in meeting schedules until they finally lost their TV slot. Hopefully, it won't have the same fate as High School of the Dead.

#4 - Pokémon

Ash Ketchum finally gets his graceful exit, and everyone — and we said everyone, including us — shed tears of joy and contentment after his journey finally ended. It may be open-ended, but to many of us who waited decades, our dark existential worries can finally be put to bed.

#3 - Attack On Titan

It was a tough decision to put AOT in the third spot. While the brilliant plot twist and character legends make it a good contender for the title of best anime of all time, it's not as boisterous and controversial as the top two. On its concluding episodes, the AOT hype is already past its peak. This is due to the dissection of the final season into many parts, giving its audience the feeling that the anime should have ended last year.

Don't get us wrong: The hype is gone, but the love is still there.

#2 - Jujutsu Kaisen

Gojo Satoru is one heck of a popular character. Our feeds have been filled with his face, eyes, bum, and more for a month or two. Even Yuji Itadori's fan video had thousands of views. Whatever anime community you visit, there's always the JJK rap and spoilers. Sadly, the Jujutsu Kaisen story is about to end, and we're sure this handsome roster of anime boys will be missed (pun intended).

#1 - One Piece

Many things happened in the world of One Piece. The Netflix live-action adaptation, Wano arc, Mackenyu as Zoro, Luffy's Gear 5, the manga/anime's nearing conclusion, etc., are already big news on their own. Fans have been busy discussing theories, live-action castings, and scenes that should get animated, like Luffy singing the Baka song and more.

Even now, OP appears in the news on an issue we won't articulate about. This anime institution has made its mark in the world's history, and everyone who's heard of it will sail together with the Strawhats until the One Piece story finally meets its end.

Throwback Thursday: "Sherry" from Tokko Anime

The nostalgic ending theme of Tokko anime series, Sherry, is a must-hear for the younger otaku generation.

If you haven't seen the show, Tokko is a manga written and illustrated by the same person who created Great Teacher Onizuka, Tooru Fujisawa. The anime adaptation ran from 2003 to 2004 with thirteen episodes.

Tokko is a brutal action-horror manga/anime series, easily one of the bloodiest shows of its time. It features generous fan service, a sound storyline, scary villains, fair-to-middling fight scenes, and memorable characters.

Tokko Anime Sypnosis And Review

Ranmaru Shindo moves into a new apartment with his younger sister, Saya, after the ruthless killing of their parents by unknown assailants. What's more inhumane in this story is most occupants in the Michida complex, their previous residence, have been brutally butchered.

Troubled with dreams and with the obsession to learn more about their parents' deaths, Ranmaru joins Tokki. Later on, he met Sakura Rokujo, Kureha Suzuka, Takeru Inukai, and Ryoko Ibuki, who are top members of the Tokko special force.

To Ranmaru's surprise, the grizzly murders and dismemberments that have continued since the Michida incident are plotted by demons who came from a growing sinkhole, and they persist in annihilating all those who survived the massacre. With the existence of more powerful demons called Phantoms, the gore quickly evolves into a denser plot with a rollercoaster of severed limbs, torso, and heads.

Ranmaru, along with other survivors of the Michida incident, are revealed to be symbionts, which contain Phantoms that protected them during the massacre that happened five years ago. If awakened, they can become demons with the strength and ability to slay whoever they see as enemies.

While the story build-up is outstanding, the ending seems incomplete. To add to our disappointment, we haven't heard of any movements in anime and manga production. There should have been a second season of the anime where the hole swallowed Tokyo, and the story focused on different characters.

However, the best thing that the Tokko anime series gave us is its ending theme song, "Sherry." It was catchy and heartfelt, making us long to watch the anime again.

Everyone here has a sweet tooth, and we won't be surprised if most would vote to feature the KitKat pack as the best in every subscription box we purchase. Surprisingly, it has a distinct, addictive sweetness we can't get enough of.

#2 - Suntory C.C. Lemon

Whether you partner it with booze or drink it on its own, Suntory's C.C. Lemon is an incredible addition to the box. Unfortunately, there's just one of them so we couldn't chug to our heart's content. Now, we're all searching for an online store that sells it. TokyoTreat is a great way to discover new favorites.

#3 - Nagoya Donut

Soft and sweet, the red bean-filled donut is a satisfying snack. Because everyone's looking for crunch and sweets, I enjoyed half of this donut myself. Those courageous enough to try the other half of this item, which is new to them, agreed that it's one of the best.

#4 - Good Luck Taiyaki

We hope to get lucky next year after consuming the Good Luck Taiyaki. Everyone jumped in for their piece once they realized chocolate was in it. As a result, no actual picture. We'll make sure to piece everything equally next time.

#5 - Sesame Sweet Potato Sticks (Shibuya Foods Crispy Imo Kenpi Daigaku)

We thought it was just normal sweet potato sticks, but that kick from the black or roasted sesame seeds changed our impressions from "meh" to "wow." We kind of wish we had more of this snack on our shelves.

#6 - Sour Cola Lollipop, Mishmash Soda Candy Rope, Fried Potato Snacks, Pretz Mild Roast

We're familiar with these items and are not so excited about them. Still, they taste great, and you will be delighted to taste them on your first try!

#7 - Choco Corn Puff Stick

We're at the okay level now, and one of these snacks is the crispy puff snack. It's star-shaped, and no one realized it because it was gone in seconds. If we were not that hungry and no one else was going after it, we would have appreciated it more because it is not too sweet.

#8 - Yamato Aji Curry Crackers

This is one of my favorites from my last TokyoTreat snack box. I guess the new curated items in the latest TokyoTreat 2024 New Year Edition set the bar high that Yamato Aji is no longer "meta." We're unsure how you'd see it, but it must be good news for first-time buyers that TokyoTreat is constantly improving their boxes.

#9 - Agemochi Bites

Down to the not-so-favorites, we put Agemochi Bites as the best among them because not everyone likes mochi and seafood. We had mixed feelings over this snack, but it's not something you need to be scared of.

#10 - Kabayaki Taro Jelly

We're glad that this classic dagashi snack is just a small strip. While most locals love it, like how Filipinos love their strong bagoong (shrimp paste), it may not appeal to everyone.

#11 - Itomen Yamaimo Soba

We know some people who'd love this. It's a new feature, and we commend box subscription brands for promoting potential favorites. But these noodles are not as good if we compare them to other instant noodles featured by TokyoTreat.

What we loved most were the QTE-based combat, the clever character customization (less need for mods), and how it sticks to the blood, gore, and heartwarming symbol of the franchise.

Forgotten #7 - Magic Knight Rayearth, 1995 (SEGA Saturn)

It's almost 30 years since the game was first introduced in Japan. With our young minds back then, who knew this game existed? I only heard about the SEGA Saturn console after receiving a Pandora arcade as a birthday present!

That said, unlike other titles in this list, playing Initial D gives the same level of satisfaction as sitting down with a best friend for hours, even if you have nothing to talk about. You don't need a fan to love it, and that's the magic we can't explain when we see casual players playing this rare game.

What prevents it from getting close to the #1 game in this list is the story mode, which is very difficult to understand for those with less knowledge of the series. Regarding the benefit casual players, My Hero One's Justice 2 neglected to articulate some of the plot's details, which isn't a problem for our #1.

Forgotten #1 - Sword of the Berserk: Gut's Rage, 1999 (Dreamcast)

Blood and gore that packs the real punch?

Heck, I played this game before I knew the anime and manga. Yet, I got drawn to it.

Why is it the best?

Of all the classics and the forgotten games, Berserk takes it home as it is worth completing the game 20 times! Although rough to look at today, it won't matter if you are in the mood to slaughter creatures, wave after wave, with that humongous sword.

It has a decent, bittersweet story to it. Duh, what else should you expect? Despite the visual issues, which are expected for a 1999 game on the Dreamcast platform, it has pristine voice acting and a terrific soundtrack. Most of us are hardcore action freaks, and if you've seen it all, wait till you got Sword of the Berserk: Gut's Rage on your Steam Deck library, that's if you can still find a copy.

#1 - Freedom From Repetitive Games

Regarding pastimes, repetitive games are some of the most addictive. They know how to entertain us with the design, hype, multi-player interactions, and adrenaline. Examples are fighting games, 5v5, and games where your character levels up.

Unless adult otakus earn from these games through multi-channel uploads, plan to become famous in the gaming realm, or win tournaments, they are wasting their time. Our otaku friends have been into Blue Lock lately. Although we highly recommend this anime, we're not into it yet. However, that led us to a very lengthy discussion of real-life athletes after the Asian Games that wrapped up recently.

Of course, we discussed sports anime for starters so that our friends who are just beginning their otaku journey can relate.

Sports anime have different plots, character types, and the sports being played. However, they all have one thing in common – incredible athletes. These athletes can compete at the highest level, participating in traditional sports.

This article takes you through five anime sporting legends that play to win. Let's dig in!

Shoyo Hinata (Haikyuu!!)

Haikyuu!! is undoubtedly one of the best sports anime partly because of its assorted and brilliant cast of characters. Hinata starts with his incomparable jump height and zero volleyball skills. Amid the extended One Piece Live Action Hype, there's one big piece of news that quickly got swept under the rug — for the nth time, Togashi is working on Hunter x Hunter!

After seven months of silence, the mangaka tweeted another update. Showing a zoomed image of his work setup, Yoshihiro Togashi added the caption "Start Over," a reference to Sakurazaka46’s album.

Hunter x Hunter Story: Where Are We At?

Our last two publications about Hunter x Hunter demonstrated our hope that our favorite series will return soon. Yes, we enumerated the signs of life that suggest the return of HxH.

The manga went on another hiatus after chapter 400, "Secrecy." This segment was published back in December 2022, and after the last notice, Togashi's team revealed that Hunter x Hunter will no longer run weekly and that negotiations are in place.

However, that's the last we've heard about it. This time, it was easier to accept that the series had entered another indefinite hiatus.

HxH Future: Let's Bet Or Let's Just Hope For The Best?

We've long been fans of the Hunter x Hunter manga and its different media.

But with many things that happened in our lives and the anime world, we couldn't help but go cold and have fewer expectations about the recent Hunter X Hunter update.

Someone should ask this question: How many chapters will it take before it goes back to hiatus?

As much as we're tempted to play bets with our closest friends, we decided to go on with our adult lives and hope for the best.

Although we can leave the topic resolved on its own, we're curious about the new serialization of the manga. As Hunter x Hunter will no longer be in the Weekly Shonen Jump, we're in the dark regarding its future. No publication details have been revealed as of this date.

Currently, we're trying our best not to get excited about Hunter x Hunter manga as we put our attention and efforts into other anime projects. But the moment Togashi's masterpiece is out again with more blood and bombs, trust that we're one of the first to jump in and share news about it.
