Zerolemon 10000mAh Extended Battery (Galaxy Note 3)

2014-03-23T11:22:00.000+08:00

Just got myself a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 extended battery from Zerolemon. If you have not heard about Zerolemon, they are specialized in making extended batteries. The picture above shows the simple packaging of the Zerolemon - it is only a plastic bag!

Purchased the item from eBay and it was delivered by this company called Bastex Wireless from the US. You can either get it from eBay or Amazon, both the prices are similar. Best part is, it does ship to Malaysia. After conversion and shipping charges, the final bill on my credit card was approx RM250 (paid through PayPal). The delivery took 14 days to arrive upon payment which is not bad for a USPS shipment from the US. Tracking number was provided as well.

The package includes:

10000mAh battery
hard plastic inner case
TPU case for outer protection
belt clip
transparent plastic screen cover/protector
cleaning cloth
instruction manual (assembly)

The assembly was complicated. You could find some video assembly example from YouTube. I do not like the transparent plastic screen cover as it looks like a cheap hard plastic material which definitely deteriorates the screen quality of the AMOLED display of the Galaxy Note 3. The main purpose of the plastic screen protector is definitely to provide a full protection of the device but I am not a fan of any screen protectors (not even the glass type =P). After using the it for a day, decided to remove the plastic screen protector. Take note that it is not meant to be removed as it is glued to the plastic inner case. Anyway, it was not difficult to remove. Just ensure that the glue are removed/cleaned after you have removed the plastic screen protector.

Coming to the thickness and weight... it is definitely a heavy brick as you have 3x the original battery juice and thickness is more than double the original size of the Note 3. Those who are more familiar with the Otterbox Commuter case, this Zerolemon is still thicker than the Otterbox by approximately 1.5 times. This giant extended battery is definitely not for everybody but suitable for those who are always on the go. You'll love this more than an ordinary powerbank.

So, how does the 10000mAh battery performs? Screen-On-Time (SOT) shows 7+ hours with a usage of 2 days 16 hours. In comparison with the stock battery, I would normally get 17 hours with SOT 4 hours with a battery remaining of below 10%. Take note that this is just the first battery cycle. I would expect it to perform better after a few battery charging cycle.

In layman term,

original battery - 1 day usage (charge at the end of 1st day)
zerolemon battery - 3 days usage (charge at the end of 3rd day)

Merry Christmas

ChargeCard by Zeller Design LLC

2013-06-20T20:00:00.000+08:00

ChargeCard, a simple innovative design of a USB "cable" for your mobile devices. It does what your normal USB cable would do - charge and sync minus the dangling wires.

The device is almost similar to the size of your average credit card but twice the thickness. I've tried inserting into my wallet and it still fits but as mentioned earlier, twice the thickness.

It has a rubbery feel and definitely doesn't worth the $25 price tag.

I ordered mine since 3 months ago for a cheaper price of $20 (shipment included) and it finally reaches me today. It is also available for iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 too.

Fake Powerbank

2013-03-31T17:02:00.000+08:00

What else could be fake from China? Here you go, the fake powerbank. If you guys are not familiar, a powerbank actually works as an extra battery pack which could be use to re-charge your device on-the-go. Those heavy little boxy device are getting more and more popular nowadays as people just simply can't get their smartphone to last the entire day.

From the picture above, you would be able to see that the powerbank has a charging capacity of 24000mAh which is very very high and normally would require a very big enclosure. The iPhone 5 has a battery capacity of 1450mAh. A simple calculation would give you approximately 16 times of recharging possible with the 24000mAh powerbank.
Needless to say, the device above is actually a fake with the enclosure being packed with sands. That little cylinder next to the PCB board is the actual battery. From the looks of it, it'll probably be less than 2400mAh.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0

2013-02-25T20:25:00.002+08:00

The war on tablet is more heated than ever with the Samsung new introduction to the tablet family. Samsung during MWC 2013 in Barcelona recently announced the arrival of the iPad mini direct competitor named Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0.

As the naming goes, this is an 8-inch device which has very much similar outlook as the Samsung Galaxy Note II. Some would say the Galaxy SIII, Galaxy Note II and Note 8.0 are of the similar lazy mechanical styling designer as not much difference in terms of design is actually seen in the recent Samsung Galaxy devices since the Galaxy SIII. Galaxy Note II grows slightly 0.8-inches from the Galaxy SIII and the Galaxy Note 8.0 grows additional 2.5-inches from the Galaxy Note II.

The Note family members are always equipped with something slightly different from the rest of the Galaxy family, which is the SPen.

In the hood:

1280 x 800 screen resolution (189ppi)
1.6GHz A9 Quad-Core processor
2GB RAM
16GB or 32GB
micro SD Card expandable
5MP and 1.3MP front-facing camera
Battery capacity 4600mAh
Powered by Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean
3G and WiFi models

Unfortunately no price was announced during the launch but to be a serious contender to the iPad mini, the price has to be similar to RM999 as the WiFi 16GB version of the iPad mini.
