File extension is used in windows to identify the type of file. For Example .mp3 signifies that its an Audio format, .docx represents its a word file format etc.

The default view of windows explorer would be:

As you can notice by default the file extensions are hidden by default. But windows does provide an option to show the file extension, Let see how:

Steps to Show/Hide the file extensions:

Method 1: Using toggle in Windows Explorer

1.Click on View Tab in Windows Explorer Tool Bar

2.Check the checkbox titled File Name Extensions

Viola you are done Explorer will now start displaying file name extensions

Method 2: Using Folder options in control panel

1.Search for control panel

Open Control Panel

2.Select Appearance and personalization category

3. Select Folder Options (Folder Explorer Options)

4. Select View Tab

5. Scroll down and look for a option titled 'Hide extensions for known file types'

6. Uncheck the tick box and click on Apply button viola, Windows explorer will start displaying the file extensions

2)if yes try cleaning that because dust may be the problem

Sometimes it happens that you connect a USB device to your system and it shows "Unknown device". There may be severalreasons for showing this.

Virus Infection:
First of all check that you system may not be infected with virus/spy ware/malware/adware because sometimes they also create problem for USB connectivity.

check USB connecting wires:
the front USB ports on your PC case may be misconnected. It's good to check the wire connections of USB port. The correct order of connection is Red, White, Green, and Black. only four wires are required per USB.

Device driver:
If windows is unable to recognize the device, try installing the driver yourself by inserting driver CD or windows CD. sometimes required drivers are not automatically installed on your system.

Power for device:
few devices require extra power to work properly, In this case if the USB is shared then it cannot provide required amount of power and device may not work.

Defective device:
You USB device may be defective. try using it on some other system.

There are a lot of reasons for this to occur, so lets try fixing some of these up on your slow computer. Here are 10 tips and tricks to make your computer faster:

Slow Start Up
There can be a number of reasons to Windows loading very slowly when starting up. What you want to do is to go to Run, type "msconfig" and hit enter. A new window should appear and under the ‘Start Up’ tab, you need to uncheck the unwanted programs and press OK. Once you've rebooted Windows you should notice things will run a bit smoother.

Oh yeah, another program I thought will be very useful to speed up your computer is StartUp Delayer which will help in setting after how much time programs should be loaded after Windows boots. For example, you could set your instant messenger program to load 50 seconds after Windows starts up so that not all the programs try to start at the same time.

Slow Loading Start Menu
If the Start Menu items are loading slowly, which it normally is when everything else it slow, you can open the Registry Editor by typing in the Run menu ‘regedit.exe’ and pressing Enter. Next, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop. Find "MenuShowDelay", and double click to edit the value. The lower the number specified, the faster the Start Menu will load - the faster your computer will perform.
