Max Neutra solo show Wisdom

This show has been in the works for many months and will feature ink paintings of Native Americans on wood. Although the paintings seem relatively simple, their creation involved weeks of experimentation and a process that involves many steps to achieve. The results have yielded some of the "finest" artwork I have produced thus far, and I am very excited to finally present them to the public. I know that some of you have been waiting patiently for months for these to be released. Out of state buyers, please contact me directly if you are interested in seeing some preview images.

The show will be held at Solid Gallery One in Silver Lake, home of Neutra Place. Solid Gallery is a very warm and inviting space thanks to the hospitality of the owners, Jarret and Wendy. Come out, enjoy a few drinks, fine company, fine art, and get down with the Wisdom.

Max Neutra solo show UNLEASHED

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you "UNLEASHED", my first solo show in Los Angeles! This is going to be a doozy. Were talking about 20 + large paintings of animals. All your favorites will be there. Mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, the works. Each piece is 24" x 36", and there is one that will be even bigger.

The opening will be June 12th, 6-10pm, during the Downtown Artwalk. If you have not yet been to the Downtown Artwalk, now is the time to check it out. All the downtown galleries open their doors every second Thursday for this event, so there will be plenty of art to see, plenty of people to watch, and plenty of booze and snacks.

The show will be held at the Bailey Gallery, which is attached to a super cool pet boutique called Pussy and Pooch.

Fun at The Derby

We had a great time at The Derby last month. Many different kinds of artists and bands performing, and The Derby is a cool spot. Many thanks to Ivy Love from Code Carnivals for putting on the show and to Kasondra Komadina for the bitchin' photographs.

This is a painting that one of the artists, Jamie Kivisto, was working on. It's hard to see in the photo, but those are pieces of sushi, with human body parts in them. Tre cool.

Fun at Intergalactic

We had a great time at Intergalactic at The Mountain Bar last month. Here's a pic of my most popular piece from the night (I had 4 offers on this thing, I guess feather headed elephant snakes are in). Also included is a picture of artist Aida Robles. Here are some pics from the Dreamtime show last weekend. The space was dimply lit with projection on several walls, strange shapes hanging from the ceiling, and group art projects on the walls. The atmosphere was very laid back and inviting. We had a good time and I met some very cool people. Emily Hay was wonderful as usual with the flute and vocals, and Carey Fosse demonstrated his impressive skills on the guitar. I also met Anna Homler. She performed before us and it was a pleasure to watch her work her auditory magic with a plethora of noise making devices and her unique vocal stylings. The whole show was a blast. Thanks Emily and Zero-Point Space!

Good Times at The Hammer Museum

The show at the Hammer Museum was super fun. Thanks Darren and and Camile! I met a lot of cool people, including Darren Pearson who makes silkscreen shirts (http://dariustwin.com/shop/), and Chris T-T (http://christt.com/) who brought a piece back to the UK with him. I also met Stephen Ewashkiw, a super nice guy who just recently moved out to LA and runs an Artist Management company called Blaim.

About a month ago I met a very talented and interesting woman named Emily Hay. Here's a blurb from her bio: "Emily Hay is a flutist, vocalist and pianist who extends the traditional roles and capabilities of her instruments by incorporating the complexity of contemporary classical technique with the spontaneity and experimentation of free improvisation. The result is startling interpretations of sound and intense ensemble interaction."

We got to talking and now I will be accompanying her music with live painting at this upcoming event on the 22nd at Zero Point, down town, LA. It's sure to be interesting to say the least. I'm very excited about the potential for a new and strange experience! Here's all the info. Hope to see you there for a night of artistic expression, improvisation, and inspiration.

I have a piece up in the Skulls And Banners show at Solid Gallery One this weekend. What is it about skulls that's so fascinating? I feel like they are unsung heroes, providing the foundation on and in which we rest nearly all our senses and the tool we use to interpret and process them.
