Corn Fritters

Ingredients

3 cups oil for frying

1 cup sifted all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon white sugar

1 egg, lightly beaten

1/2 cup milk

1 tablespoon shortening, melted

1 (12 ounce) can whole kernel corn, drained

Directions

Heat oil in a heavy pot or deep fryer to 365 degrees F (185 degrees C).

In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Beat together egg, milk, and melted shortening; stir into flour mixture. Mix in the corn kernels.

Drop fritter batter by spoonfuls into the hot oil, and fry until golden. Drain on paper towels.

IF YOU LIKE HIKING THIS PARK IS TRUELY FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

TODAY WE WENT TO TOM MAYS NATIONAL PARK IT IS LOCATED IN THE FRANKLIN MOUNTAINS. WE WENT TO GO HIKING HUBBY, ME, AND OUR ELEVEN YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. THE COST TO ENTER THE PARK IS $4.00 FOR PEOPLE OVER 12 YEARS OF AGE, 12 AND UNDER FREE.

AS WE ENTERED THE PARK WE DROVE AND CAME UPON THE RANGER STATION THEY WERE GETTING READY FOR THIER DAY IT WAS 9 A.M. WE PAID OUR ADMISSION AND DROVE TO OUR DESTINATION THE AZTEC CAVES. WE HAD PACKED A PICNIC LUNCH OF SANDWICHES, GRAPES, BANANAS, CHIPS, FRUIT DRINKS, TRAIL MIX, AND WATER. THE SLIDESHOW WILL SHOW YOU OUR ADVENTURE ON OUR HIKE. WE SPENT A TOTAL OF 3 HOURS AT THE PARK HIKING UP TO THE AZTEC CAVE, LUNCH, HIKE AT THE WILDLIFE OBSERVATION AREA. THE HIKE WAS NOT EASY BUT WAS NOT IMPOSSIBLE, THE TRAIL IS VISABLE AND COVERED IN GRAVEL AND ROCKS. ALONG THE TRAIL WE OF COURSE SMELLED SKUNK THANK GOODNESS HE DID NOT FIND US. WE SAW AMAZING DESERT PLANTS AND BIRDS. THERE WAS A VERY NICE BRIDGE TO CROSS OVER THE DRY RIVER CREEK BED. I WOULD SAY THE HARDEST PART WAS THE LAST FIFTY FEET GOING UP TO THE ACTUAL CAVE ENTRANCE. WHEN WE REACHED THE CAVE WE EXPLORED AND HAD OUR WATER AND TRAIL MIX. WHEN WE DECIDED TO DECEND BACK DOWN THE VIEWS WERE EVEN MORE AMAZING TO SEE HOW FAR WE HAD ACTUALLY COME, I WAS SO PROUD OF US TO HAVE ACCOMPLISHED THIS TRAIL. WHEN WE FINALLY CAME DOWN THE MOUNTAIN WE HAD OUR LUNCH AND AFTER MY DAUGHTER FOUND A TEE-PEE SOMEONE HAD MADE AND LEFT THE INNER STRUCTURE. THEN WE WENT TO THE WILDLIFE OBSERVATION HUT, WHERE YOU CAN WATCH BIRDS, RABBITS AND MORE INSIDE THIS HUT WERE BOOK FILLED WITH REAL PHOTOGRAPHS OF WILDLIFE THAT HAD COME THERE AND A JOURNAL FOR US TO FILL IN AND MAKE OUR COMMENTS. WHILE WE WERE LEAVING THE NATIONAL PARK WE ALL AGREED WE WOULD LOVE TO HIKE MORE AND EXPLORE. WE ALSO REALIZED THAT HIKING WAS EDUCATIONAL, FUN, FAMILY MEMORIES, SELF ACCOMPLISHMENT, GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH AND RELAXING.

I contacted NXT Nutritionals, Inc and they sent me There Susta natural sweetener to review. I am not a user of substatute sweetners. So this was a new experience for me. I put this in my coffee and I was shocked it actually tasted good. I had no after taste and I only had to use one packet compared to my four teaspoons of sugar i normally use. It also disolved easy in the hot coffee. So this got me curious as to if this product would disolve in cold drinks? My conclusion was that it does disolve in cold drinks easily also.

This is a great fun activity for your kids to do especially since the weather is getting cold

and outdoor play is at a minumum. Purchase 1 twin flat sheet you can find these at walmart and kmart

for around six dollars. I cover my table in plastic garbage bags with tape so i can still use them after the project is done. place sheet ontop of plastic garbage bags. Give the kids markers, fabric paint, fabric pens or
what you feel secure in allowing your children to use.

Let them know this is the table cloth that they are creating and will be used for the Thanksgiving dinner.

Give them ideas of things to draw, examples Turkeys, indian corn, fall leaves, teepees, pilgrims, pumpkins, and more. Also have your children sign the table cloth with there names.

When table cloth is finished and done remember to first toss sheet into dryer for a few minutes to help set the colors. When washing i was in the sink with woolite. After the Thanksgiving dinner is over, i wash the table cloth and fold it away into a keepsake box. Its great to pull out the next year for them to see what they did the year before.

Ingredients

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa

1/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

dash salt

1 quart milk (4 cups), divided

1/4 cup half-and-half

3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

In a small bowl, combine cocoa, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Heat 1 cup of milk in a saucepan until bubbling. Stir in cocoa mixture and whisk until smooth. Bring to a boil over low heat, stirring constantly. Stir in remaining 3 cups milk and return to boiling. Before stirring, whisk until frothy; stir in cream and vanilla then heat through.

Serves 5-6

PINECONE BIRD FEEDER

What you'll need:

Pine cone

Paper plate

Butter knife

Smooth peanut butter

Birdseed

Ribbon or yarn

Scissors

How to make it:

Cut a long length of yarn or ribbon to hang the bird feeder.

Tie the ribbon in a knot around the pine cone near the top (about 3 sections down).

Tie a knot in the end of the ribbon.

Use the knife to get a large clump of peanut butter on the paper plate.

Use the knife to spread peanut butter inside the pine cone and around the edges.

Sprinkle the birdseed over the pine cone.

Roll the pine cone in the birdseed that is on the plate.

Hang the bird feeder on the tree.

Enjoy watching the birds eat their treat!

Most people are getting ready for the cold. Remember if you are purchasing new Coats, New Blankets, and New Clothes. Instead of throwing out your old Coats, Blankets and Clothes Donate them to your local Battered Womans Shelter, Child Crisis Center and Homeless shelter.

Other items you might not have thought about donating, Fire extenguishers, smoke detectors, carbon monixide detectors.

Animal Shelters are extremely busy this time of year. Call your local shelter to see what they accept. Most shelters accept unwanted towels, blankets, pet food, pet crates, leashes, collars, pet bedding, and more.

We all love a good ThanksGiving Dinner, This year make a pledge to purchase an extra Thanksgiving Turkey to donate to your local Homeless Shelter, also canned goods are greatly appreciated at this time of year.

GIVING FROM THE HEART

Not everyone can afford to purchase items to donate. You can still help by donating 1 day of your time to the senior citizen home. This is a great learning experience for you and your children to visit a senior citizen and spend some quality time with another human being, Reading a book, Doing a puzzle together, Even just watching T.V. Check your local Senior Center as to there rules. Most do not allow food to be brought in.

OLD EL PASO TACO GAME NIGHT REVIEW

I received two coupons for Old El Paso taco kits, a $10 gift certificate to purchase the rest of the fixings for the tacos (meat, lettuce, etc.) and the El Tacodor game.

I was extremely excited to be given the chance to do a review on Old El Paso Taco Game Night El Tacodor. After all I live in El Paso, Tx. Who else but a true texan can appriciate a true taco loving night.

Our Family had great fun playing this game and especially eating. We are not a huge taco topping family but we sure do like our cheese and salsa. While i was cooking the little one was setting the game table all up. Even though Old El Paso Tacos can stand alone. I enjoy making side dishes to go with them. We had Tacos with shredded montery and cheddar cheese mix, with salsa. Our sides were Old El Paso Refried Beans topped with cheese, and Fiesta Corn.

I like to heat my taco shells in the oven. This total meal took me less than twenty minutes to cook.

With our tummys full and our minds educated we all settled in for the night. This is a working mom and dads asset. Old El Paso makes a working mom and dads life a whole lot easier. We know our family is getting a variety of healthy food in there diet with this quick home cooked meal. They do most the work.

I would like to mention that i have purchased Old El Paso Taco Shells in the past and i am always surprised that the taco shells are not all broken inside the package.
My daughter asked if there were any left overs for tomorrow, So So sorry my dear daughter there were no left overs.

I requested samples of there teas from Golden Moon Tea. They kindly sent me five different samples to try out. Today my daughter, husband and I sampled the Nepalese Afternoon Tea . The color of the tea was a meduim amber. It was not sweet at all and was what i would call a tea you could drink all the time. I was not willing to say this was my favorite, It is a high quality tea I agree. My husband and daughter however said that they really really liked this one. So far we have tasted two the Honey Pear and the Nepalese Afternoon Tea, which goes to show you when purchasing a tea flavor everyone has there own likes and dislikes. As far as the quality and grade of the tea leaves I found them to be fresh and well sized. There was no powder in the package it came in.

I requested samples of there teas from Golden Moon Tea. They kindly sent me five different samples to try out. Today my daughter and I sampled the Honey Pear. The color of the tea was a very rich amber. With a sweet aroma of honey. While the pallet enjoyed the flavor of this tea the nose also was fullfilled with the aroma. I truely enjoyed this tea hot.

My daughter says that this tea would be great in the afternoon, and would love this during the holiday time. She says she would not drink it everyday, because it is more of a special treat time tea for her. She says the flavor lasts after you are finished. I agree with her the flavor does last the sweet flavor of honey and pear is still with me.

I recieved the sample of Secret Clinical Strength in the mail. I have been useing Secret since i was fourteen years old. I have always used the powder fresh in the blue container. It was the brand my mom used so i grew up with it. When my daughter reached twelve years old she to was introduced to powder fresh secret deoderant. When the sample came i was very excited it was the Original light and fresh scent clinical strength. LA UNION CORN MAZE FAMILY DAY

We left home around 11:30 a.m. to head out to the corn maze. Meagan had a hard time sleeping she was so excited to go this was going to be a first for our family we never done this before. First stop McDonalds for some burgers and drinks. ( $11.00), Off to La Union Corn Maze. http://www.launionmaze.com/ ( $27.00) When we got out of the car we could smell the fresh corn and hear the wind whisping threw the corn field. The line to get in was not long at all.
Meagan rode the pedal cars first, than we ran over to the Maze where we got a map, There were two mazes to choose from and you could go threw them as many times as you wanted. After the exhausting Corn Maze which yes we got lost and did not make it threw. We went to check out the bunny rabbits, sheeps, ducks, horse, and donkey. She shot some cannon with tennis balls at target pins. We decided was time for a treat Mouth watering roasted corn with different spice you could sprinkle on them and deep fried potato chips, 2 corn cobs and 1 huge plate of chips ( $9.00) well worth the money. We than let her go down the slide. Now off to the hay ride, which had no hay i was glad about that cause alot of people have allergies, We were pulled by tractors to the pumpkin patch where we picked pumpkins and colorful gourds to decorate our dinning room table ( pumpkin total $ 12.00). After the hay ride we decided it was time to go. We stopped off at Dairy Queen for a treat ($9.00) we arrived home at about 5:30 exhausted and fully played out. This was an excellent day out for us. We didnt feel rushed or overwhelmed, It was so relaxing, which suprised me. I would highly recomend this for all ages. I would also recomend wearing hats and sun screen. Its a great outdoor activity for everyone. Even grandparents were haveing a great time there with there grandkids. The Corn Cops were really great with my daughter and other kids. The men that were doing the hay rides were very polite and took special care to make sure all were safe inside and outside the tractor wagon. The cashier ladies were cheery and just great with the people.

We ranked this with high scores on Safe, Clean, Friendly, Fun and Affordable.

Schwan's Saves Dinner Time

Yesterday was my day off from waitress work. So I cleaned the house, did my detailed cleaning, and decided to tackle organizing our master bedroom walk-in closet. Finally finished the closet three hours later. I called hubby asked what we were going to have for dinner trying to give a hint ( I really do not want to cook after all this cleaning ) his response was anythings fine. I had to go get my daughter from school i had 45 minutes to get in the shower and go get her. Just as i was blow drying my hair, I hear Honk Honk, I was thinking to myself grrrrrrrrrr who is that, I dont have time for this right now. I peeked out the bedroom window and there He was the Schwan's guy. I threw on my pants went running outside in a panic knowing time was of the essence here. I told him i needed dinner for tonight. This is what I got.

I took my dinner prize into the house, and walked to pick my daughter up from school. When we got home i placed the Lasagna in the oven. Hubby got home at 5:00 dinner was almost done. I put the garlic toast in the oven, and opened up two cans of green beans and heated them up.

I have only ordered from Schwans twice and it was a gallon of ice cream the first time. Second time was the

Marble Cake & Chocolate Fudge Ripple Ice Cream.

I was a bit worried about how this Lasagna would taste, because i have purchased frozen Lasagna before at the grocery store and it tasted yuck. I cut the Lasagna into six parts. They say it serves six, but honestly the Lasagna was so good it only served four. Hubby and i both went back for second helpings on the Lasagna. The garlic toast was fantastic just the right amount of garlic. Now for dessert, this ice cream cake is addicting, and a great ending to a very good meal. What was left over for tonights dinner? 1 package of 4 slices garlic toast, Half the ice cream cake. We could not have eaten out for dinner cheaper.

MY ELEVEN YEAR OLD DAUGHTER HAS TAKEN AN INTREST IN COOKING. WHICH INSPIRED OUR SUNDAY DINNER. I TOLD HER SHE AND I WERE GOING TO GO SHOPPING SO WE COULD MAKE HOME MADE SOUP. I EXPLAINED SHE WOULD MAKE ONE AND I WOULD MAKE ONE. I TOLD HER SHE COULD PUT WHATEVER SHE WANTED IN HER SOUP. SHE WAS VERY EXCITED ABOUT MAKEING HER VERY OWN RECIPE.
WE WENT TO THE STORE SHOPPING AND SHE PICKED OUT ITEMS I WAS VERY SURPISED BY, LIKE CAULIFLOWER. WE TOOK OUR LITTLE TREASURES TO THE CAR AND LOADED UP FOR THE DRIVE HOME TO BEGIN OUR MASTER PIECES. AS I DROVE I TOLD HER THE STORY OF STONE SOUP:

Once upon a time, somewhere in post-war Eastern Europe, there was a great famine in which people jealously hoarded whatever food they could find, hiding it even from their friends and neighbors. One day a wandering soldier came into a village and began asking questions as if he planned to stay for the night.
"There's not a bite to eat in the whole province," he was told. "Better keep moving on."
"Oh, I have everything I need," he said. "In fact, I was thinking of making some stone soup to share with all of you." He pulled an iron cauldron from his wagon, filled it with water, and built a fire under it. Then, with great ceremony, he drew an ordinary-looking stone from a velvet bag and dropped it into the water.
By now, hearing the rumor of food, most of the villagers had come to the square or watched from their windows. As the soldier sniffed the "broth" and licked his lips in anticipation, hunger began to overcome their skepticism.
"Ahh," the soldier said to himself rather loudly, "I do like a tasty stone soup. Of course, stone soup with cabbage -- that's hard to beat."

SHE LOVED THE STORY AND UNDERSTOOD THE MORAL. WE GOT HOME AND WORKED TOGETHER IN THE KITCHEN MAKING OUR SOUPS SIDE BY SIDE WHILE CHATTING ABOUT DIFFERENT THINGS SHE AND I COULD COOK IN THE FUTURE. AFTER EVERYTHING WAS SIMMERING AND THE MESS WAS PICKED UP. I THAN EXPLAINED IT WOULD TAKE MANY HOURS FOR OUR MASTER PIECES TO BE FINISHED. SHE ASKED IF SHE COULD TASTE IT MANY TIMES DURING THE COOKING PROCESS AND OF COURSE I SAID YES, AFTER ALL A COOK MUST TASTE THERE CREATIONS AS IT DEVELOPES TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL. WHEN ALL WAS DONE, OUR FAMILY SAT DOWN TO A HOME COOKED MEAL CREATED BY MY DAUGHTER AND ME. WE HAD A BOWL OF EACH SOUP AND I MUST SAY FOR HER FIRST TIME COOKING HOMEMADE SOUP IT WAS FANTASTIC. THE MEMORIES OF THIS DAY WILL ALWAYS BE WITH US AND SOMEDAY SHE WILL HOPEFULLY DO THIS WITH HER CHILDREN, AND JUST MAYBE SHE WILL SAY THIS IS A FAMILY TRADITION THAT WAS STARTED WITH MY MOM AND PASSING IT ON TO YOU TO SHARE WITH YOUR KIDS WHEN YOU HAVE SOME.

I got a package of NATURE VALLEY GRANOLA NUT CLUSTERS in the mail. The cashew ones. I had my eleven year old daughter try them out, she said i should buy them. I tried them also and thought they were very tasty and would be a great snack in the car, for a trip to the zoo, even a great snack in her lunch box for school. Hubby liked them so much that later that night he went to get some more and asked who ate them all. This blog is about our family: Me the Mom (Danielle), My husband (Steve) the Dad, and our three children, Justin 20 years old, Heather 18 years old, and Meagan 11 years old. The two oldest are off at college right now so currently the only full time kid at home is Meagan. We also have five dogs and four cats.

My husband and I work separate shifts so there is always a parent at home this was a choice we made a very long time ago. We are pretty much a normal family.
