How to Heal Your Spirit — Simple Steps for Lasting Peace

Should we be more like trees?

2026-10-24T16:12:32.649+02:00

Everything in nature strives to grow upward to the Light―Why do so many human beings strive to bend and turn from it? Should not all make the attempt to be as intelligent as the trees and the flowers?

What does it mean to have stars in your crown?

2026-10-24T15:42:48.262+02:00

Let the maxims I have assembled for you become as stars in a crown that they may gather you brightness with the coming night.

Beloved One, teach me, I pray of Thee, to learn how to love and respect your gracious self as I should. Teach me to cast aside all narrow thoughts of my neighbours and friends.

Teach me, I pray, to deal lightly with my enemies that comfort may come to me through the purification of my thought of another.

Even should they sin deeply against me, let my motto ever be the perfect word—

Forgiveness.

Let me try my utmost to enter into the joy of others without the sting of jealousy entering into my heart, that wonderful organ, which gives rise to the lifeblood of all breathing creatures, the core of the physical body, just as my spirit is the core of my divinity within.

Faith, hope and charity go to make up the great and glorious existence of every plane.

So, dear Father and Friend, knowing this as I do through your kind and loving teaching, I ask your blessing with the hope that my faith and charity unto others may become as godly as thine own.

Amen!

Aspire to godliness by truthful living. It is the only way to succeed.

Thinking sincerely means to the mind what deep breathing means to the lungs.

Try to bear all burdens, which are placed upon you with a smiling face, for God knows just how much your back will bear, also, what your share is to be.

He has a reason, remember!

Thinking of a beautiful future life will always bring happy results to a weary mind. Try it.

To love in the true sense of the word is to welcome God into your heart.

Think often of your neighbour in a generous, kindly way.

He may not respond, but God will, and bless you, for the kindly thought to a fellow creature.

Pray sincerely and with love in your heart if you would have the Heavenly Father hear you.

If you make a promise, keep it, for a broken promise, however slight, puts the gall of distrust into the heart of the offended.

If you go through life trying to do as you would be done by, you may be done by others, but the reward from above will come in time, great enough to repair all damage done to you.

A thoughtful silence several times each day if only for a few moments will bring you nearer to your Maker, therefore, rest to the tired mind. Try it once at least.

Whenever you have cause to complain about your neighbour, figure in your own mind how much cause he has to complain about you. It will simplify matters greatly.

How to be true! How to be honest! Two great questions of the day and age. The answer is simple—

Pray sincerely for help from God. He will teach you how to be both honest and true if you will give him your full trust.

Be careful of the ingredients you use to make up your daily life. Let all kindly thoughts flow through you in a tranquil manner. Abrupt thought has a tendency to jar in place of soothing.

To keep your mind clean you must bathe it in refreshing thoughts. Inspect yourself, Do you need a mental house cleaning?

Think of others as kindly as you do of yourself and there will be no doubt that you will recognise Charity whenever you meet her.

May the God above bless you, and may you in return thank him for the many gifts, which you have accepted of him.

God blesses all kindly thought, therefore, let yourself be blessed often if you would feel continual peace of mind.

The untroubled surface of the water is more soothing to gaze upon than a roughened and disturbed surface. Is it not true likewise that a tranquil face, reflecting kindly thought is infinitely more pleasing to gaze upon than a troubled, or angry one?

Mental and physical beauty together make a wonderful combination.

If you are not blessed with a perfect body and beautiful face, cultivate your mind to such an extent that all who gaze upon you will forget the imperfection in admiration for the spirit, which shines forth from you.

Higher thought always has an uplifting influence on the mind.

The greatest and the simplest thought is sublime, for a thought of such extremes can only mean God.

Living according to God's commandments is a great achievement. The stronger the faith, the easier the achievement. Try it.

Do not try to outdo your neighbour in all that he does, for he may be trying the same thing at the same time as you.

Why not move in the same direction?

You would each proceed faster and with more friendly feelings toward one another.

The help, which you receive above is free and beautiful. Therefore, pray sincerely that you may receive it in your time of need.

A joyous nature is a thing, for which to thank God most sincerely.

Would that all might see and realise the good, which they may accomplish by a few kindly spoken words.

Fortitude, endurance and courage are three of the primary colours of life. Fortitude brings strength, Endurance brings patience, Courage develops truth. The great Trinity is ever-present you see.

In all walks of life, one may find both beautiful and unbeautiful things to attract the gaze. Try hard to keep your gaze on the beautiful side of life. It will repay you for the effort you may make.

If all who walk through life's journey were as possessed to do the right thing as many are to do wrong, this world would be a heavenly place.

Continued thoughts of kindness will rob the face of all sorts of disagreeable and tell-tale lines, which imperfect thoughts cause.

Think of the good you might do if you would make that thought an accomplishment.

Feverish thought is always a handicap to clear thinking.

Always think of some way to better yourself in God's eyes, and do not be so anxious to look beautiful to those who have no power of observation for the beautiful.

Everything in nature strives to grow upward to the Light―Why do so many human beings strive to bend and turn from it? Should not all make the attempt to be as intelligent as the trees and the flowers?

All who welcome God into their hearts are fitting themselves for a glorious future life.

One and all are welcome to God's home if they come unto him with truth in their hearts, for He asks nothing more than that.

Each day think that you will try your best to improve in some way. However small it may appear, the effort will bring results of a gratifying nature to your mind.

Prayer is any sincere and truthful combination of words offered with kind intent either for oneself, or another. A request, which God dearly loves to favour.

As seeds must be sown in the ground to bring forth a harvest of grain, so must seeds of truth be sown within the mind that the harvest may be one of worthiness unto the Creator, for He alone is the judge of the quality of your spirit.

To bear your burdens cheerfully, whether mental, or physical is a great accomplishment. Would that more might profit by the thought, for it is a good one.

To hear the voice of conscience, you must make good use of your grey matter. Do not let it mould through disuse.

If you were kind to all living creatures, as you should be, how beautiful all things would appear, for you would then know the true meaning of justice.

There are many who doubt the truth even when it is perfectly apparent, yet who are ever ready to swallow with pleasure many a sensational falsehood.

Try to think ahead in a liberal manner, so that your mind may become infused with the desire for more perfection each day.

Try each day to sow some seed of kindness so that when the spring advances, you will find many sprouts growing up about you to encourage you to sow a larger crop each year.

Fortunate for you that there are some staunch and trusty friends to be found for each spirit, otherwise you would wander about wasting precious time, for the spirit needs and must have the sustaining influence of friendship in all its loving kindness.

If all creation of earth, sea and air could be convinced that truth is God, and God, the Protector of all that has been created since the beginning of time, would some still continue to think themselves infallible?

It would seem that the thought of God, as the Supreme Being, should bring peace to everyone, that they have such a perfect leader to follow.

The unusual is often gazed upon with the utmost curiosity. Try to develop that same curiosity along lines of instructive thinking, it will add greatness of thought to your daily life.

Prepare yourself to meet your Maker in a sane, healthy frame of mind by living your life in truth and helpfulness to others.

There is nothing in heaven, or upon earth, which makes a man so great, as truthful and simple living, so that he may have time to cultivate the thought of his God.

When you read a maxim, which you really feel may be of benefit to you, try to learn it by heart that it may help you in time of need.

To all those so pressed for time that they are in a constant rush, let them remember that a bit of quiet thought each day will quiet the nerves and release the congested condition of their minds.

All those who favour right living, let them raise the right hand. All who favour wrongdoing, let them raise the left if they dare. Who is able to count the result?

Your thoughts are numbered by the multitude. Are the majority worthy to be made public? Your acts are many, also. Do they do credit to our Maker?

When you think of the dawn of day as beautiful, think how much more beautiful the dawn of Eternal Day will be, made so by your own efforts. Such a thought should inspire you to do your earthly best.

How great is God, how small is man. Knowing this should anyone dare take His name in vain?

Try to believe that it is as easy to do right as wrong. Perhaps the thought may help to keep you from slipping down the hill of imperfection.

Every kind thought strengthens you mentally. Try to bear that in mind.

When success comes in quantity, try hard to realise that it means God has favoured you and you should accept it with modesty.

Many dumb animals may be numbered among our best and truest friends. Treat them as such.

A faithful dog is a wonderful creature. He seems to know and feel the meaning of the kindly heart as you wish many humans might.

Behold! the dawn arrives.

Let it bring with it a hope that today may prove you true in all your work, so that when the night descends again, you can say that you have been faithful to your trust.

If you could only learn to appreciate the beauties about you as you should, you would be a great deal happier than you are.

The world goes round and round and time goes on and on. Are you killing time, or are you trying to make it beautiful and instructive?

Weave about yourself the armour of strength.

It is made of all truthful material, costs but little, but is worth more than its weight in gold and precious stones.

To think a kindly thought, to do a noble deed, you must have faith and courage for the foundation.

Any labour, however menial, is worthy of admiration if done well and with truthful thought attending it.

Have you ever stopped to consider what a wonderful thing language is? What a range of expression it allows you! Should you not endeavour to combine words in a lovely manner as possible, casting aside those words, which cannot be of benefit to you?

To behold the eternal light, you must be truthful in all things. You are at liberty to make the effort. The result is the most wonderful thing possible to gain. You can prove the truth of these words if you wish by clean living.

Think often of the good you may do if you wish in many ways, and make the thought an act.

Thinking deeply upon subjects of worth will clear away mental cobwebs, as no other thing possibly can, for deep thought penetrates every corner of the mind.

When you think that you have arrived at your destination, wherever, or whatever it may be, glance behind to see what good and kindly acts you have accomplished along the way.

Trying to be humble before goodness and justice is simple proof that you are willing to learn many things, which you ought to know.

When you think that others are unjust, be very careful that you do not develop the same fault within yourself.

If you wish to succeed in your work, you must not count the minutes as hours, nor the hours as minutes, just keep pegging away to win.

Deal gently with all. Harshness is no part of God's teaching. If you would think of that fact more often you would improve your disposition.

Whenever you are tired of what you are doing, why not rest a moment and think a few pleasant thoughts of a restful nature? Some happy day, for instance, when you went fishing and caught all that you wanted.

Surely a thought of that kind should cheer you up.

If you are ill, think of someone whom you may know that perhaps is blind, deaf, or maimed for life, and be thankful to God that you are only one of the four.

Each and every one of us should have some mission to perform. If you do not recognise yours, let someone of kindly intent help you to find it.

Give, and God will bless you, for He gives freely at all times and makes no mention of it.

Always think of yourself as a power to do good, and you will be given the strength to live up to the thought, and act upon it.

What is salvation by faith?

2026-10-24T15:13:53.910+02:00

Life is real! Life is earnest! And the grave is not its goal—

Dust thou art, to dust returnest was not spoken of the soul.

Let us then be up and doing, with a heart for any fate—

Still achieving, still pursuing, learn to labour and to wait.

—Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882)

MOTHER! I am here! I am so glad I am alive again. I never knew I could come back. I am alive, alive! I am alive! I am alive again and so happy. I appear to be in a wonderful light and in a marvellous country of perfect conditions. Everything is so beautiful—you would love it. Beauty is all about me. I am a happy little beggar in a wonderful state of life. It is a life such as you sometimes dream. You need not grieve at all.

You never grow tired and you are always interested and ready for new and delightful experiences. Those who have developed their minds find they are able to go right on without any effort.

Nothing is difficult.

How do you understand love now?

Love is a vast and wonderful sense of life and is the atmosphere you breathe. Without love, you could not continue to live.

You are divided immediately on leaving earth—there are many entrances—

I find myself among those who are young and strong and very ambitious. I am ambitious, but not in an earthly sense.

There is a destiny that shapes our ends rough-hew them how we will.

I want to know and go on. I feel elated and uplifted by a sense of life and force and joy beyond expression. I know my life is just beginning and I am conscious of every moment.

I am like in a beautiful dream.

Beautiful scenes of Nature surround me and I am conscious of an uplifting force of love. This love is a real, tangible thing even more tangible than sunlight is to you. It is a force—a marvellous certainty of never-ending, never-failing strength.

In this life, nothing interferes with the real spiritual and intellectual exchange of ideas and you soon find your own.

Are you never lonely?

Loneliness and happiness are incompatible. I am happy.

Do you have to eat and be clothed?

No more than you do in a beautiful dream.

You move about without effort by a mere wish or desire. Space and time do not exist. Your condition is of light and action.

It is as though a wonderful intelligence is all that really existed and that intelligence makes you perceive that your life is sustained by the most marvellous life-giving love.

The life you lead on earth is your preparation for your life here and your life here is the result of your previous development.

How are you taught? In classes?

The exchange of ideas is without conversation. Your ideas and thoughts and desires are understood without expression and received by those with whom you are in harmony. This is a real and tremendous experience.

You are not separated. Your natural body is separated, but I have never been so near or so much in sympathy as now.

There are no classes. I am instructed by a sort of absorption of this life-giving love. I am freed from all restraint.

My real nature and love of the beautiful and the ideal is able to go on untrammelled.

I long for the complete and full expression of my nature and know with a marvellous certainty that it is to come.

When I awoke, my surprise was very great. My joy abounded to think I was really alive with all the vigour and vitality of youth and all the joy of its most supreme moments fulfilled.

I have since learned that the mental condition of the dying always affects the first state of consciousness in this life.

Christ's teachings were pure and true and if really lived would make earth a foretaste of heaven, for all that really matters in earthly life is that you should be honest—

The naked, real purpose, which underlies your acts—and sincere of purpose and with a real love of your fellows.

All are not strong enough to face the truth without fainting.

Love is essentially unselfish in its essence and beneficent in its results. It radiates and gives strength and joy and life becomes perfect in its warmth.

Here love has a different meaning.

Life must be lived for the good it radiates. It is not necessary to go far afield to search for work to do.

The everyday exercise of thought and love towards all is sufficient.

Your intelligence is part of your divine essence and persists when the envelope or body has been cast aside.

Earth's dogmas with the exception of the two great laws are superfluous and more or less confusing.

Love God above all things and your neighbour as yourself.

From the first, I was quite conscious of my own old personality with its desires and ideas, only the externals had disappeared.

My curiosity to know was as great as ever and it was as if I had suddenly been transported to some strange and delightful country where conditions of climate and beauty of aspect were so perfect that the annoyances incident to earth life had vanished and all the obstacles to perfect expression had dissipated. I remembered my past, but could realise its best aspirations and felt free and happy in the conscious strength given me by the transcendent atmosphere of love. It is something of which earth gives you no idea.

The transcendent atmosphere of love is real, intelligent and exquisitely beautiful. It is exhilarating and gives clearness of vision and strength of purpose, life and certainty of progression.

In its light and joy, you know that the best is possible.

The joy that pervades life on this plane is difficult to put into words for you.

Thoughts and ideas are interchanged by a sort of automatic intercourse—or rather, an interpenetration of mind.

Words and languages have ceased to be necessary as a vehicle of communication.

I am sauntering along paths among exquisite flowers and trees in the glorious light of a perfect day.

This light is a marvellous pleasure to the senses you now possess. It is a glorious, enveloping, self-radiant glow that leaves no shade and comes from no sun. It seems to be self-generating, but does not seem to generate heat, only light and joy.

There is no hurry and I know I can only see so far as my development permits, but I know that there is no obstacle to perfection.

My life is a purely intellectual one passed in the pursuit and absorption of knowledge, which becomes clearer every day.

There is clarity of vision here. No artificial obstacles come between the searcher and the truth—no barriers are set up by personalities. The mind is liberated from all bonds and is not only perfectly free, but entirely capable of understanding more and more each day.

There are many classes or conditions of life on this plane.

Do you remember how you felt in those rare moments of life when natural beauty was so great that words were not only superfluous, but discordant? So, I feel , and my language stops before the beauty and glory of Nature as I see it.

You are permitted to progress for no one was ever entirely bad.

There are moments of aspiration for good in every life and this divine spark of life even if suffocated by evil deeds on earth is eternal and inextinguishable.

Those whose lives on earth were sincerely and consistently devoted to their spiritual development and to doing good to their fellows are received in the light. They go on just where they left off and their progress towards perfection is rapid.

The individual here is still endowed with free will and can choose the particular sphere in which he will work.

It is among these that you find the searchers for truth and light who wish to remain in communication with earth.

They bring some of the certainty they now possess of immortality to others still groping in the dark.

Many never think.

They live superficially and in a state of reflected morality, which is without force or character either for good or evil.

They remain long in the shadows (or mist) and are slow to progress.

At last, they gather strength from the force of love about them and so begin to question and grow. They are like bulbs buried in the earth—they have glorious possibilities, but remain impervious to them until exposed to the sun of truth, which must penetrate the cloud of their ignorance.

Until you recognise your own shortcomings and ignorance, it is impossible to receive help.

Many who fall victim to the varied temptations in life suffer periods of purification, which are bitter and full of remorse.

They realise that it is entirely through their own weakness that they have failed to follow the good they frequently glimpsed—for, in this pure and radiant light, they see their own lives.

They are permitted periods of repose and joy, which refresh and comfort them and they themselves will to return to the expiation work, which they consciously undertake.

The periods of exaltation, which they enjoy make them realise that all that is best and noblest is within their grasp and they gladly devote themselves to whatever work is given them.

I want to try to make a little clearer this expiation I mentioned.

Despite great suffering and anguish, there can never be despair among them, for the periods of light casts an effulgence over their days of suffering. Their suffering is real, but it is voluntarily undertaken to expiate their past sins.

My work of expiation is partly this [Intercommunication].

It is a great joy and a glorious privilege, but it entails suffering beyond your power to conceive, mingled with visions so transcendently beautiful that no words can ever convey my gratitude to you for the opportunity.

I am in the radiance.

I know by a knowledge, which comes to me through senses developed since coming here that immortality is a glorious fact—

You are still alive and will have full opportunities of perfect fulfilment.

You are conscious of the sweetness of God’s love and its perfect reflection in our fellow beings.

The atmosphere, which surrounds you is like a tonic, giving you strength, joy and knowledge.

The further you go, the more you are able to withstand this radiance.

By your sincere regret of your past, you ask that you be permitted to do something to atone. You gladly and consciously leave the glory of this radiant day and return to the gloom where you face your worst self and others in the same sad condition.

You bring to them a glimpse of the light and try to atone for your sins of earth.

I have learned that heaven means Perfect Knowledge and Infinite Love, which generates Eternal Life.

Those who have been willingly and consciously bad suffer greatly here.

Such are admitted to the light, but are as little children and their education must be made. They are committed to the care of guardian spirits and led gently to higher spheres.

While the shadows are deep and filled with suffering, there is never despair.

Those who are intellectually developed, but who have allowed their impulses of love and charity to dry up (spiritual atrophy) and who have lived selfishly suffer greatly.

They are enclosed in a shell formed by their own selfishness. They see outside this shell, but it is extremely difficult for them to break through.

Their attitude of mind has made it almost impossible for them to ask for help and love is more like a wave breaking against a rocky cliff than a soft spring rain being absorbed by the rich earth.

This voluntary return to darkness is not in the nature of a punishment.

It is the inevitable result of clarified vision. Seeing more and more clearly what is essential to spiritual progress, you long to share this knowledge with others still in the darkness of ignorance. Feeling more each day the vitalising effect of God’s intelligence, you long to express your love, for real love is selfless and beneficent.

The earthly mind cannot grasp the meaning of infinity.

It is a blessed dispensation that you are permitted to reflect the infinite love, which He gives so freely and its realisation makes it inevitable that you should search a way of expressing it in your turn.

The essence of God is life and love. Infinity fills all space, all time—Infinity is All-knowing, All-present, All-powerful. This knowledge is clear to you and love vivifies to an extent undreamed on earth. You are the image of God—you have in you a spark of the divinity.

You cause actual and active harm through ignorance or faulty education or weakness engendered by habit and association.

This evil is not real in the eternal and unforgivable sense, but it forms vibrations, which go on indefinitely and influence others.

The mere ignoring or denying of wrong does not annihilate its effects.

Perfect Knowledge sees the innermost reasons of every act and takes account of an individual’s limitations.

There is salvation, the realisation of God’s transcendent love for all, but the road is long, the trials are not limited to life on earth.

It would be easier if you could know on earth what is really and eternally right and wrong—this knowledge would help you to understand the possibility of a God of infinite love and goodness who is equally a God of justice.

How will you be able to dominate matter?

2026-10-24T13:52:26.531+02:00

Function through your spirit and not the physical body. The body is transient and impermanent. It is an illusion of the senses.

Never allow it to dominate your spirit.

And how can you accomplish this? By sacrificing for others, and giving to others what you most want for yourself.

Only by giving of yourself will you be able to dominate matter.

What are the soul lessons?

2026-10-24T13:49:47.423+02:00

Kirkudian,* a highly evolved entity, describes his first experience with the material world.

All new souls are innocent.

They arrive on the material plane with no concept of what life and living are all about. Their mission is to learn the lessons of the material world—to exist in matter, striving always to purify it without allowing themselves to be contaminated by its powerful emanations.

This is not an easy task and very few souls are able to accomplish their missions in their first incarnations.

The material world is dense, and its vibrations can be overwhelming. Most incarnated souls are strongly influenced by matter and wind up losing contact with the higher realms to which they really belong.

This is often inevitable because all souls must go through the physical experience, which in turn obliterates the astral echoes, making it difficult for the young soul to remember its mission and its true origin.

At the end of each material existence, the soul has learned new lessons. If it has allowed itself to be overpowered by the material world and in consequence has broken the cosmic laws, it must repeat the same experience repeatedly until it has learned its lessons without breaking the laws.

The first lesson all souls must learn is pain.

The soul is immune to pain because it is perfect. Pain is an expression of the imperfection of the material world. The soul knows this, but the body does not. It may suspect the truth, but the power of matter and the apparent evidence of the senses fill it with confusion.

The body believes only what it sees—what it perceives to be reality, which is why it suffers pain whether moral or physical.

What kind of a place is in our heart?

2026-10-24T13:46:08.641+02:00

You are at heart just as you were at parting—full of the personal interests of each and all.

Spirits who have lived and worked on this side of life for any space of time realise that family association means very little as regards the age question, or the physical relationship of parent and child, brother and sister. They know that ties based upon mutual understanding link with far stronger bonds than mere blood connection.

What any two have in common whether it be work or aspiration is the tie that binds.

It so easily becomes natural to drop into comradeships here with either young or old (wo)men when there is a common interest. There is no age, which demands respect or reverence.

Only the merit of a strong and beautiful character can receive either.

How to serve God and humanity?

2026-10-24T13:45:23.791+02:00

We are bound for a far shore.

The waters have been rough, and the winds cold and boisterous, but the far shore is worth the experience, even those rough waters did not produce devastation and destruction, but in reality have created things of beauty and worth, which no tongue can tell because they are of God.

Rest then in this thought—

That the past and the future are going to be shown as one, each a counterpart of the other, for the one purchased that which the other holds, and they are blended together and sealed by Christ for His use, for the service of man and the glory of God—it is impossible to divide these two—in serving humanity, we are manifesting God and we cannot love God unless we seek to serve humanity.

What is the true meaning of the Golden Rule?

2026-10-24T13:38:59.764+02:00

Oh, man! oh man! reach out for higher truths.

You have groped in darkness long enough, seek the true light and enjoy its benefits by observing the golden rule, which the Nazarene imparted to those who could receive―

Do ye unto others, as ye would that others should do unto you.

You desire to receive the full benefit of that which is to your material benefit, but the majority are loath to give the same which they receive.

Oh, look not too much to your own material wants, but you who have sufficient for your own, see that your brother is supplied.

Father God is the Father alike of all earth's children, great and small, the earth furnishing abundant supply for all alike.

No material body with a heart to feel and comprehend could see his brother in the flesh, famishing by the wayside, without rendering him assistance.

This feeling of charity must develop itself within you. You must develop the spirit of charity, which is democratic in its nature, and must be universally expended in giving to each one alike his portion, both materially and intellectually.

Is the human soul made of energy?

2026-10-24T13:35:22.648+02:00

Spirit is the electric spark, which makes possible material or physical life.

Without spirit, there could be no material or physical or animal life, and this physical or material or animal life cannot in any case survive the departure of the spirit life within.

Whither art thou going?

2026-10-24T12:56:20.835+02:00

A man lay dying. The world vanished from his sight and he was left alone with the question—

Whither art thou going?

That question, filling him with fear and trembling, He lay writhing on his bed of agony when suddenly, he beheld ten shapes closing him in, cold and pitiless—

God's Holy Commandments.

And one after another, they lifted up their voice. The first saying, Unhappy man, how many gods hast thou allowed to enter into thy sinful heart? The second, How many idols hast thou set up in His stead? The third, How often hast thou taken the name of the Lord thy God in vain? The fourth, How hast thou kept the Sabbath day and caused others to keep it? The fifth, How hast thou honoured thy father and mother and those that were set in authority over thee? The sixth, How hast thou acted by thy brother, doing unto him as thou wouldst he should do unto thee?

And on they went, the ten of them, each with the voice of judgment, confounding his soul.

And the dying man, anguished and hopeless, had not a word to say. He felt convicted and knew he was lost. At last, he cried despairingly—

I know I have sinned, but can you not leave me to die in peace? And they made answer, We cannot leave thee unless One will take our place to whom you shall yield yourself body and soul to all eternity, abiding by His judgment. Will you do that?

The sick man considered, He was afraid of the One even, and his heart, beating feebly, shook with fear. Yet, at last, he said, I would rather have the One judge me since I cannot answer you ten.

And behold at his word, the dread accusers vanished and there appeared in their stead One, holy and compassionate, just and forgiving.

And the dying sinner looked to Him. Death had a hold of him already, but he felt the breath of life. He remembered all at once what in far-off days he had heard of One dying for many, recalling the holy lessons of his childhood at his mother's knee when she told him of the Lord that is mighty to save. He had forgotten it, living a life of folly and sin, but it was coming back to him even now.

And looking again, behold, he knew Him that stood by his side.

And faith gathered strength, a smile of blessed trust lighting up his face, and with dying lips, he cried, Let me be thine, Lord, Thine only, now and forever! Have mercy on me, O Christ, and redeem my spirit! He sank in death, but peace had been given him.

What have you failed today?

2026-10-24T12:46:14.499+02:00

I know it now—I know it—who shall free me from even such guilt?

Do you see that tree?

Often and often I sink down beneath it with groans of regret, for on its branches are gathered the opportunities of a wasted life.

They keep falling down on me, ready to crush me.

I am often driven thither by the lashes of the awful inevitable. How happy I might have been—how much I might have done in the days of golden possibility.

But I would not!

As a blind man, I walked in life, careless of light. It is dark now, but I can see—I do see the failure of my days.

How to activate your spiritual ears?

2026-10-24T12:44:43.992+02:00

Spirits have the power to introduce thoughts into your brain.

They do this by whispering in your ear, the ear of the spirit body, not the material body. The spirit body is asleep, so to speak, whilst the material body is awake, hence they can only communicate with the spiritual body in a peculiar manner.

You have heard it said that if you whisper in the ear of a sleeping man, you will make him dream of what you have whispered.

This may be true or not, but if so the case is precisely the same as spirits' mode of communicating thoughts to the semi-conscious spirit body whence they penetrate into the brain of the physical body and are used by the owner as his own ideas. Thus, you are always in communication with the spirit world though you do not know it, and if you would take the trouble to enquire of anyone who has had the experience of impressionable mediumship, you would find that the words come into his head one after another, as distinctly as if someone were dictating them.

All the most brilliant geniuses of any age have been such.

They could not have originated the ideas, which are conveyed by the works of men like Shakespeare, Spenser, Milton, Dante, Plato, Aristotle, and others, unless the writers or speakers had been inspired by men from the spirit world.

This is the secret of all inspiration. You see it at work in everyday life just the same. From the spirit side, seen behind the scenes, as it were, the process is so simple and commonplace that he who runs may read.

Spirits have much to tell you for your own good—it makes them happy to impart knowledge, hence they seek out an impressionable mind and pour into his brain the thoughts, which they are full of.

What does oneness of humanity mean?

2026-10-24T12:41:43.971+02:00

What a wonderful realisation it is―

What a consciousness of the oneness of all humanity it gives you to know that the mind of each human being has an influence upon every other human being―

What a responsibility it is when you see that the influence is in proportion to the connection you have with the Universal Mind!

When the objective mind has no connection with the subjective mind, as in the case of an idiot―or very slightly connected, as in the case of an insane person, that mind makes no impression on the surrounding minds. But look at the individual whose life has been one of conscious concentration, and who has consequently strengthened, not only his magnetic force, but his connection with the Universal Mind―that mind will sway audiences, as his spoken words never could. If he is a writer, his readers will feel the vibrations of his thought force, as he impresses through his pen his great power upon their minds.

It is through the subjective mind that you really meet each other, not only your friends on this planet, but those in other realms and spheres.

Every normal human being is connected with the subjective mind in a degree―or his objective mind would be unable to comprehend the meaning of anything the physical senses report to it―it is to unite still more closely with the subjective mind that all this mental training is necessary.

Learn to concentrate―you are not any brighter than another―it is only that one has greater concentration developed than another.

What does forgiving others do for us?

2026-10-24T12:37:29.602+02:00

The Saviour Christ, realising how much each one has to forgive the other, put in his own prayer that most protective sentence—

Forgive us, as we forgive them.

The position is this, the Father neither judges you, nor does forgiveness in the earthly sense ever come into the relationship between Him and you. The many expressions, regarding forgiveness, which appear in the sacred texts were used solely and only to try and dissipate that deeply-rooted belief that God Almighty was the Ruler and Condemnor.

You have been told that if you injure another and do not seek to right the wrong when you pass out of physical life, that deed has to be worked out with pain and effort.

You are conscious too that it is a dangerous thing to withhold forgiveness because it blocks the progress of the one who is beyond your range of knowledge or understanding, in the sense that no visible act of theirs can right the wrong. While it is true that those who have passed out of the body are hindered and hampered in a most terrible way by the lack of forgiveness from those on earth, yet it is unidirectional.

It is like this—

When you are free from the body, there are a multitude of things, which have to be done—there are those so-called sins of commission and omission, and these, each one, have to be made good, so that the pattern of the life may be true to the design of the God-spirit within.

It would be grossly unfair if the absence of the necessary forgiveness should hinder the progress of the soul now gifted with spiritual sight in any direction, but the one concerned.

Who are the adversaries?

2026-10-24T12:34:12.070+02:00

You have spoken of adversaries. Who are they?

The antagonistic spirits who strive to mar our mission and its progress in imitating our work and gaining influence over the deluded.

These are spirits who have chosen evil―have put aside promptings and influences of good and have banded themselves under the leadership of intelligence still more evil to malign us and to hamper our work.

They are the foes of God and man―enemies of goodness―ministers of evil. We wage perpetual war against them.

It is very startling to hear of such a powerful organisation of evil. There are some, you know, who deny the existence of evil altogether and teach that all is good though disguised.

As the soul lives in the earth-life, so its tastes, predilections, habits and antipathies are with it still. It has not changed save in the accident of being freed from the body. The soul that has been low in taste and impure in habit does not change its nature by passing from the earth-sphere any more than the soul that has been truthful, pure and progressive becomes base and bad by death.

Wonderful that you do not recognise this truth!

You would not fancy a pure and upright soul degenerating after it has passed from your gaze. Yet you fable a purification of that which has become by habit impure and unholy, hating God and goodness and choosing sensuality and sin. The one is no more possible than the other.

The soul's character has been a daily, hourly growth. The soul has cultivated habits that have become ingrained in its individuality.

The spirit that has yielded to the lusts of a sensual body becomes their slave. It would not be happy amid purity and refinement. It would sigh for its old haunts and habits. They are of its essence.

So you see that the legions of the adversaries are simply the masses of unprogressed, undeveloped spirit who have banded together from affinity against all that is pure and good.

They can only progress by penitence―through the instruction of higher intelligences and by gradual and laborious undoing of sin and sinful habit.

The idea that there is no such thing as evil―no antagonism to good―no banded company of adversaries who resist progress and truth and fight against the dissemination of what advantages humanity is an open device of the evil ones for our bewilderment.

Everyone’s got skin in this game?

Sometimes looking at life's big systems—whether it's the economy, nature, or human behaviour—makes you realize how interconnected everything is. When the rules of the game apply to everyone equally, the entire dynamic becomes a lot more grounded.

Law of Attraction and Comfort?

2026-10-24T12:10:40.090+02:00

Spirits of the departed can manifest their respective presences to the interior perceptions of some in whatever shape or form they may please necessary to establish their identities.

Some come in their youthful forms, as they were last seen by their earthly friends and others, in the maturity of manhood.

Some appear in garments similar to those worn on earth, while others come in girdles of resplendent light or flowing robes of snowy white.

They possess the means, at any, and at all times, of establishing to their friends with undoubted accuracy their positive identities.

Upon the advent of spirits into the higher life, their angelic friends appear to them, as they were last seen in the earth existence.

Then, as their perceptions become more refined by contact with spiritual things, they behold the advancement, which they have made, and they appear no longer to their eyes in the garb of infancy or childhood, but that of a beautifully matured and developed spirit.
