My dear friend LaDonna and her family of (almost) nine lost their home on Tuesday, February 2012 to a fire. Everyone escaped unharmed, praise the Lord! Even the dog. However, they have lost absolutely all of their possessions. They are in Canada so it is difficult for some of her friends and family to keep abreast of the news and needs of the family. There is now a website that we will try to keep updated with the latest news, needs and contact information for donations. Please stop by Harris Family Support and let us know you are praying for them, send a word of encouragement or a donation.

I am determined to get healthy again. Six years ago exactly I was a 38 year old, mom of four who wore a size 6!! I was in the best shape of my life. I felt GREAT! I worked out, cleaned pools and doctor's offices for a living, had caboodles of energy to spend time with my kids, I was the "hot mom". {Bummer, I am not the hot mom anymore.} Nope. I
had another baby at 38, got cancer, had chemo and radiation, stress stresss, instant menopause due to cancer treatments and ovary removal. Massive money woes.... (of course) we all know my ex-husband owes me over $36,00.00 in c child support. Stress stresss stresssss.

Oh well, get over it right? Yup, I agree. It is time. Right now. Now is my time. So what if there are massive amounts of stress on me now, when won't there be? Right? We are broker than broke and it costs considerable more to eat healthy and nutritious. Oh well, whine whine whine. I AM GONNA BE HONEST HERE PEOPLE!!! I need to be held accountable here. Make me do this! Do it with me! You! Join me would ya? I can post everything right here. Will you? Let's encourage each other.

Terrific 100 Calorie Snacks

I am keeping an eye on my calorie intake. My doctor recently cut my Synthroid down (I have no thyroid) and I feel like I am ballooning up like a baboon! Check out these terrific snacks for just 100 calories or less!!

Pistachios. Snack on 20 pistachios. Don't let the high fat content scare you. It's "good fat" and most of the fat is unsaturated. They are high in protein and fiber with lots of vitamins and nutrients.

Should I Read my Oncology Report?

Today marks the day, six years ago that I had my breast cancer surgery while I was 29 weeks pregnant with Kiera. I understand that the walk I have been on throughout my life contributes to who I have become. However, I am tired of it. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a survivor, a lot of other men and women do not get the same conclusion to their cancer fight. I started this blog in hopes of continuing to help others going through the same fight be encouraged and have faith that there certainly can be a wonderful outcome. But, honestly, I am kinda tired of thinking about cancer.

At work last week a customer and I talked at great length about it. She had the same exact cancer and diagnosis as I did. I enjoy that. I do.

I was chatting with a group of friends on Facebook about my urge to read the Oncology reports I never could get myself to read all the way through. The last time I tried I got three paragraphs into the first page and read "extremely high chance of disease recurrence" I was in tears for days. I mentioned to my friends that maybe I should read them through because maybe the doctor changed him mind later on. A Sweet friend replied. "Maybe GOD changed his mind! You are here with us, you are healthy! Why get all depressed because of what someone said 6 years ago!?!" and another great friend said "Will reading this enrich (my) life in some way? Do (I) feel like there is some need behind reading it? Is there a reason it would be worth." Another suggested I "make (myself) a cake and celebrate!" another "agree(d). Live life to the fullest."

Don't I have marvelous friends??? I do. I know I do. No looking back, move onward. Enjoy life to it's fullest. I heard that 90% of what we worry about never happens anyhow!

Six Year Cancerversary

Today is Friday the thirteenth of January, 2012. On Friday the thirteenth of January, 2006 I was five months pregnant with my fifth child getting a biopsy on my breast. As you know since you are reading this blog the results would come back Monday as positive for Stage II Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, followed by surgery, then induced childbirth, chemotherapy and radiation.

Honestly, these last six years have seemed like about 15. It has been a challenge but I am grateful that I am able to continue to be a part of my children's lives.

Here's to another forty years cancer free!

Challenge: Greatly Reducing the Food Budget

Our family has started off this new year of 2012 with some financial challenges, thus impacting our food budget severely. It just so happens to be when meat prices seem to have increase by 50%! I have thus been on a mission this week to find creative ways to feed our family of 7/8 on a tight, tight budget. I say mission because these meals have to be easy enough to throw together throughout the week for this working mom of six. (sigh)

Some of the ways I hope to greatly reduce my food budget immediately are:
1. I will again employ a weekly menu to help reduce overbuying of extras at the grocery store.
2. We will have one meatless meal every week.
3. We will have a sandwich and soup meal one night each week.
4. We will have a breakfast for dinner meal one night each week.
5. We will incorporate more beans into our menus.

I don't know....I am still working on this.

I am using my Pinterest to "pin" some meals I am hoping will help us out in this crunch time. I shall post some of them here as I am able along with the links to some terrific blogs I have found through Pinterest and Foodgawker.

I hope you look forward to these upcoming posts! There are some good ones coming with some terrific links.

I did it did I bought myself my Christmas present early. This is probably all I will get this year due to limited funds, but that is just fine with me. Would you like to see what I bought??
Laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, paper plates and dixie cups!! YAY ME!

This working mom of 6 had it with dishes during Thanksgiving break and while 5 of the 6 kids have been out of school all week long (with me working) I have already had it with dishes and laundry again.
Yay for paper products! I will quote names on the cups every morning and that will be their cup for the day.

I have been making my own laundry and dishwasher detergent for the better part of a year now so the detergents was definitely a treat for me.

Honestly, I am not being sarcastic. This is what I want right now. So I went the hour away to Sam's Club, treated everyone to hotdogs/pizza and a soda and bought my present.

I have been running the dishwasher three times a day all week! Sheesh!

What about you, do you run to paper products during those busy times if the year?

I stumbled across this wonderful "Gingerbread Nativity" tutorial. What an excellent way to remember the reason for the season and real meaning of Christmas! I have never gotten into Gingerbread houses and the secular aspect of Christmas is definitely out of control. Between Santa, Reindeer,stockings, trees and those elves on the shelves it is hard to keep our focus on Christ (and the kids focus off of receiving).

What better way to bring the focus back to Jesus than a DIY Nativity scene?
