Format Your Symbian Phone

It may happens that a program corrupts the C: drive of your phone. In such case, some data can be lost of course but, more annoying, some applications may not work or work only partially...

On a Series 60 based phone, two key sequences will allow to restore your phone to a cleaner state:

Normal Reset *#7780# : Restores ini files from rom but preserves user data (photos, 3rd party apps etc)
Hard Reset *#7370# : This reformats completely the C: drive. All applications and files stored on this drive will be lost and clean default files will be rewritten.

In both case, the phone will ask you a confirmation and you will have to enter a security code (12345 by default).

Files and applications stored on E: drive are not be affected by these sequences.

Some time the Phone may not be functioning well because of the following problems. Then we can Format the phone so that it comes back to Factory settings.
Note : Full phone formatting a 6600!

A. Blank screen phone unable to boot-up.
B. Phone is only able to boot-up to “Nokia” screen (may flash “Nokia” 4 times also).
C. Install a program but unable to uninstall it.
D. Unable to delete certain files on C drive. WARNING: This will ERASE EVERYTHING on your phone

If you have any files that are important to you, make backups.

1. Make sure you phone is fully charged.
2. Backup your contacts list and personal files to MMC memory card (if possible).
3. Switch-off your 6600 phone.
4. Press and hold these three keys together
-Green dial key,
-Star key (*)
-Three key (3)
then press the power on/off to swtich on the 6600 phone.
DO NOT let go the three keys until you see the “formatting” screen displayed
5. After a few minutes, the format will be complete. Your 6600 will now be at its original factory settings.
If you did a backup on your mmc, you can restore it back to the C drive again.

Free More RAM on Your Phone

Method 1: Flight mode:

Put your phone in “Flight mode” with Psiloc System Tools. Install System Tools, open it and select “Flight mode”. This way you can restart the phone without your SIM card so there will be no running phone tasks in the background. Now you can have up to 3,5 MB of free RAM!

Note: ironically enough, Flight mode doesn’t work when Smart Launcher is installed, at least in my case.
But i’ve also heard several reports of people who have both apps running without any problems.
Method 2: Smart Launcher trick:

Install Smart Launcher and open it. Go to Options, Settings and put Launcher ON.
Now plug in your charger and switch off your phone. Wait untill the battery meter appears and short press the Menu button (don’t hold).
The menu should appear and now you can have 3,5 to 4,5 MB free RAM! (Hold Menu button to check RAM).

The trick is that with the charger plugged in, the phone must get a minimum software support for charging, even when
the phone is switched off. And somehow Smart Launcher has still got it’s shortcut running and that’s the Menu button. So when
you press the Menu button, you go directly to the Menu without any other phone tasks running in the background so
you trick the phone and you have more free RAM!
Note: when you unplug the charger, the phone will switch off.
Method 3: Menu :

This method I found it by myself, it frees a little about 100~200 KB but I guess it’s useful sometime

Close your menu not by selecting the right selection key “exit”, or pressing the menu key another time, they only hide the menu app but do not close it, to close it select the left selection key “option” and scroll down and select “exit”

So when you open an app needs more ram reopen menu and close it, it’s useful when play low bit rate video in realplayer paradis.

Another Method

How to create your own skin for UltraMP3 Player:

1. Edit existing, or create new following images:

· “skin.pcx” – main background image
resolution: 176×208, 8-bit palletized

· “spr.pcx” and “spr_a.pcx” – sprites drawn over the background
both are 8-bit paletized images
these two images contain sprites and their transparency masks
do not change positions and size of sprites, because they are read from predefined rectangles within image, and if you draw outside of rectangle, your sprite will be cropped
there’re two files – rgb color, and alpha mask (grayscale, with 5 grades from black to white)
this is optional element, and if not present, default sprites are used

Note: this skin tutorial ships with images in PSD format, which contain hidden layers that may help you to design your skin. Useful layer set in “skin.psd” is named “Components”, and this defines size of each component (the size cannot be changed), you can change the position of components, and adjust the position in “skin.ini” script – see next point.
In “spr.psd”, there’s hidden layer named “rects” which define positions and size of sprite rectangles – these cannot be moved or scaled, and your sprites must fit into these rectangles.

2. Create component definition file “skin.ini”

This is a text file with definition of components – their positions and colors. You cannot change the positions of components (e.g. song name, volume bar, etc) in the skin.

3. Pack all these files into one zip file

All the skin files must be in the root directory of the zip.

- you may use any compression level, the higher the better

- change extension of final zip file to “mp3skin”, e.g. “MySkin.mp3skin”

4. Upload the file into your mobile, and click on it in inbox

The player will be run, and will copy your skin to its local directory and install it afterwards.

After installing, you may safely delete the file from your inbox.

5. To change current skin, run the player, and use menu to select different skin.

your data from the phone to the Memory card like that:

Tools/memory card/options/backup phone memory.

1. download that software tool NSS (Nemesis Service Suite)

Download NSS from here

2. Extract the tool from the archive and install it.

3. Connect ur N73 to the PC via data cable.

4. Now open NSS tool, in the upper right corner there is an icon

in a shape of “magnifier”, press it to find your attached device.

In the upper left corner is a button “info”, press it to find

out your phone firmware code. It should be something like

5. Now instead of the existing code write some of the follows:

GSN SMS Notifier is basically a small free application that allows you to get email alerts on mobile via SMS. It sits on your computer and monitors your inbox for incoming emails. When one arrives, it sends a SMS to your mobile phone, notifying you of the sender, the subject and the first one to two lines of the email.

What’s very useful about it is that it is not confined to just checking desktop POP3 inboxes. It also checks online Gmail accounts too. So when I was testing this, I had it monitor my Gmail account. It also sends SMS messages to any phone anywhere in the world. It sends the messages through either ICQ (free of charge) or through Skype (with Skype credit). You have to have one of these apps installed on your computer and if it’s Skype, you need to have enough credit on your Skype account (it costs the same as sending a normal SMS message in your country).

So, let’s set it up.

Once you’ve installed it, let’s dive into the configuration section.

The first thing you need to specify is the length of time GSN should check your account and the mobile phone number it should send SMS notifications to. When noting down the mobile phone number, remember the international dialling code

You also need to specify who should send your SMS’s – ICQ or Skype. But remember, the chosen app needs to be installed on your computer.

Next up, specify what email account it should check. You can choose between an online Gmail account or a desktop POP3 account. Then enter your account details. You can also specify labels it should check instead of the actual inbox.

I left the rules one alone so the last one for me was the SMS template. I also left this one alone but you might want to fiddle with this one if you want to customise what the SMS message says.

Then close the box. It will then ask you if you want to save the changes. Say yes and everything will save. The app will minimise to the taskbar and that’s you ready to go.

So when an email hits the inbox ( as it is given below), the SMS arrives at my mobile phone :

If you have internet access enabled on your phone (such as the iPhone, Blackberry or Windows Mobile), you can, if you want, go to your inbox straight away to see the full text of the email. Otherwise, the SMS would just serve as a confirmation that an email has definately arrived from a certain person and you would have to read it later when you returned to your computer.

It’s good for me because I have a Gmail account but for those who don’t have Gmail accounts, it kind of sucks a bit. It would be nice if the developer would extend this service to other email services such as Yahoo and Hotmail. Instead you can use this service for Gmail

Control winamp using mobile phone – Bluetooth

You can monitor your computer while you are away from it and it will cost you almost nothing. A smart phone that has either Bluetooth or GPRS and a small application that can be freely downloaded from the Internet is all you need to begin monitoring your PC.

This is a simple project that you can complete in less than 10 minutes. There are many applications available on the Internet that can help you monitor your computer using your mobile phone. The application we are going to describe allows you to control your computer from a mobile phone using Bluetooth. You can also find applications such as RemotePC2 that allow you to control your computer through the internet using GPRS on your mobile phone. RemotePC2 can be downloaded from http://www.getjar. com/products/57007RemotePC2 and it works with any J2ME-enabled mobile phone. We tried using it, but found that the performance was not impressive. Also, we were not able to use it over the Internet because we are behind a proxy server, and this application requires you to have a live IP. There are other Windows Mobile applications available on the Internet that you can use to control your computer using Wi-Fi. We hope to bring you that project in the near future.

The software and hardware requirements for this project are:

A Blue tooth Dongle

This can have a range between 10 to 100 meters, depending on your requirement and budget. A Bluetooth dongle that supports Bluetooth serial ports is preferable. We used an SMC Bluetooth dongle which is easy to configure and has a range of 10 meters. This will cost you around Rs 500. This, of course, is assuming your computer doesn’t already have Bluetooth built-in.

Any smart phone running Series 60 (S60) 1st and 2nd edition.

The application we used here does not yet support S60 3rd edition or phones that run on propriety operating systems, even if they are Java-enabled. We used a Nokia 6630 for this workshop.

Control freak symbian software

This can be downloaded for free from http://mtvoid. com. This download contains the programs that you’ll have to install on your Windows computer and also the smart phone. We have used Windows XP for this workshop.Control Freak uses a Winamp plug-in to start the server. Winamp can be downloaded for free from www.winamp.com.

Winamp 2 or 5

Winamp must be installed on the computer before installing Control Freak.

COMPUTER:

Any computer that runs on Windows 2000 or higher and has a free USB port to support the Bluetooth dongle will do. A Bluetooth-enabled laptop will also be fine for this purpose.

The installation is quite simple. Just download Control Freak and save it on your computer. Double click the .exe file and keep clicking next. No configuration is needed. The application will place a ‘controlFreak.sis’ file on your desktop. This file is the client software that needs to be installed on your mobile phone. Install it through Bluetooth or through the software bundled with your phone. After installing it on the phone, a new item titled ‘CtrlFreak’ will appear in the applications menu. When the Control Freak PC application finishes installing, it will launch Winamp and the Winamp-plugin will try to configure itself automatically. If you are using your computer’s default Bluetooth drivers, no manual changes are needed. If you are using a Bluetooth device that requires installed drivers, you should select ‘Installed other’ as the Bluetooth driver. You then need to set the Bluetooth virtual serial port (also called a COM port which the plug-in will use to communicate with the phone application. This process is usually easy, but it varies depending on your Bluetooth software. An important thing to remember is that your computer uses separate COM ports for incoming and outgoing connections. You need to check your Bluetooth software and make sure that you are using the incoming COM port correctly.

Next, open Winamp and type the shortcut combination ‘Ctrl + F’. A window that displays the connection properties of the Bluetooth pops up .Set the Bluetooth driver as ‘installed other’ and choose the COM port you installed using Bluetooth, Select the ‘Startup with Winamp’ check box if you want the server to load every time you open Winamp. Click ‘OK’ to finish.

Now start the ‘CtrlFreak’ application on your mobile, choose ‘Options’ and select connect. The software will ask you to connect to the computer. Here you may have to enter a pass code on both the mobile and the computer to pair the device with your PC. Usually the pass code is ‘0000′. Once your mobile is connected to the computer, the display shows the current song playing in winamp. Choose ‘Options’ and select ‘Computer Desktop control (8)’ from the application menu. The moment you click on ‘Select’ the screen will display the same content that is being shown on the computer

You can access the computer from a distance of 10 to 100 meters depending on the Bluetooth dongle and phone you are using. The bandwidth may be affected if you have too many walls between your computer and the mobile.

You can watch full screen videos or view photographs by controlling your PC with your mobile. You can switch from normal screen mode to horizontal full screen mode, change the speed of the mouse cursor on the PC, or change the image type you receive from automatic to BMP or JPEG. You can also set how your phone disables remote. control when you receive a call. You can add, remove playlists, and even use the screen to show a Winamp-style spectrum analyzer while playing a song

You can also use this application to remotely (temporarily) use your computer while you are away from your desk at the office or to browse the Internet using your computer if you have a compatible mobile phone with a fairly large screen.

Recognize the Connection

Every Windows Mobile device functions as a wireless modem if the carrier has not disabled the service. After connecting it to PC, the device connects to wireless service provider’s data network and then provides the internet connection. So, check with your wireless service provider for wireless data plan.

Step 1: Set up a partnership by Bluetooth pairing

Pair the mobile device with your Windows PC or laptop. Power on the Bluetooth of the device and then open the Bluetooth software utility of the PC. After the name of the device appears there then select and click Next. Pair both and enter PIN if required. After the Services menu appears then select on Dial-Up Networking and then click the Finish button.

Step 2: Configuring the Bluetooth Modem

The Bluetooth modem connection is now added to Connect To subscription of Start Menu. Next, click on the new connection. Enter the Username and Password there. Before that click the Properties button. Properties menu is where you configure the connection. That is interfaced to wireless service provider or the ISP. There you have to click the Configure button.

Raise the speed to minimum 460000bps. Even enable here the Hardware Flow Control and the Modem Error Control. Next, click OK.
After this go back to the Properties menu and enter the dial-up ISP phone number. Then click OK. Note that for wireless carrier’s data network there is a dialing string rather than phone number. For AT&T/Cingular it is *99#.
Back in the Connect screen enter Username and Password for your ISP. It is given by the carrier.
Next, click Dial to connect.

Step 3: How to use the connection everytime

Just click Start, Connect To and then the device title. It is perhaps Bluetooth Modem. Now it is connected. For disconnecting just right-click on the device and then select Disconnect.

There is a happy news for all who were waiting for the software unlock for the iphone 3G.Finally in the first day of 2009 iphone-dev team released the software unlock for apple iphone. The unlock requires no flashing . It is just a software named ‘yellowsn0w’ , which will reside in the memory and gives the unlock .

Here are the stpes needed:

1 . Iphone 3G unlock works with only firmware version 2.2

2 . Download 2.2 version for your iphone 3g from link below

3. next step is Jail breaking. Use quickpwn or pwnage tool.

4 .when your iphone is turned On after the jailbreaking , open cydia

and add the following resource
