Durango Senior Photographer | Aubrey | DHS Class of 2013 Model Session Sneak Preview!

Aubrey is one of our Class of 2013 Models and is such a beauty. I had the opportunity to photograph her older sister, Hayley, two years ago for her senior portraits. So I had been hoping that Aubrey would want to be part of our model program - and she did! We photographed Aubrey's session this past weekend, which happened to coincide with Snow Down. We started at Hair Fusion (which was safe from Snow Down activities) for hair and makeup and Mary Beth did an amazing job, as always. We ran into a few people in costume along the way to and from the car, but otherwise avoided downtown. We got to use a few spots that I have always wanted to use - spots that I notice driving down the highway and think "I would love to shoot there" - and then forget them as soon as they are out of sight. Of course we had to use a few classic locations as well, and then we ended the session in the studio. I happened to have a mask I purchased in New Orleans lying around the studio and since it was Snow Down weekend, I asked Aubrey to wear it for a few portraits. Durango Senior Photographer | Emily | DHS Class of 2013 Model Session Sneak Preview!

Emily Muller is another of our gorgeous Class of 2013 Models and was our 3rd model session of the year. Emily came with a bunch of great ideas for her session - complete with examples from Free People and Anthropologie. I love when my clients have specific ideas because it gives me a direction to run in and it always presents a challenge. Emily had found a specific hairstyle she wanted to try as well, and it was awesome! We started at Hair Fusion, of course, and Emily requested a "messy braid" hairstyle. Mary Beth pulled out all kinds of tools to create this look - most of them I had never seen before. Her make up was beautiful, as always, and Emily got the airbrush foundation, which made her beautiful skin even more flawless. I had a couple of locations in mind for Emily's portraits since I already knew what kind of locations she liked, so we started with those. We also happened upon a couch that was sitting on the corner across from the salon. Of course I had to use it and Emily was a great sport about sitting on an unknown couch. We then headed out to Emily's house to use her amazing barn and we got another lucky find: Annabelle! Annabelle is the big Ford they use in their car wash business and a great prop! Then Emily sat in the snow for us for some "putting on my ice skates" shots. She was completely frozen by then so we headed back to the studio for some hot chocolate and indoor portraits. Emily brought her guitar and we did some unique accent lights with a blue gel. As you can tell from this extra long blog post, this session was pretty long too. So, I'm sharing my normal favorite few from this session in this sneak preview, but I will definitely be sharing the rest in Emily's fusion music video so stay tuned!

Tenley is one of the cutest baby girls I know and she has the most amazing eyes! She also let's us change her into more outfits than anyone else (including my hs senior girls)! She's always so smiley and up for anything we want to try - I hope that never changes! This was Tenley's second session and her mom, Jymmy, brought such great outfits - again. She had some great jewelery that a friend of hers makes - and Tenley loves to chew on. The pearls were my favorite because I love pearls, but the turquoise was stunning and who doesn't love pink? Jymmy brought more great headbands and tutus too. I love baby girl sessions! (I love baby boy sessions too - I love all portrait sessions actually - but little girls have so many outfit options.) As per usual, I had a hard time picking a favorite few to share for this sneak preview because I love them all. Thanks for being such an awesome model Tenley!

Avery is the adorable baby girl I had the pleasure of photographing last Friday morning. Her amazing parents, Lisa and Matt, brought her into the studio for a session and we had a blast. She had the greatest expressions and I think she might be the happiest baby ever. Especially because she was getting over a cold and was still smiling and laughing! Lisa had some amazing props and outfits for Avery to play with and wear - which made the session even more fun. We started with Avery in a giraffe outfit - tooo cute! She even had a pair of glittery gold Juicy Couture boots! I was in Kids Rock yesterday, checking out possible props, etc for the Cutest Kid Contest coming up (click HERE for details about the contest) and I spotted quite a few items that we used in Avery's session - such as the cute elephant:) I hope you love these few of my faves - I absolutely love them all, so it was hard to choose just a few to share today!

I am so excited about this; I am bouncing up and down in my chair! Kids Rock asked us to photograph their Cutest Kid Contest this year - which happens to be the 5th annual contest! Which means that we get to photograph tons of adorable kids! Starting February 27th, bright and early at 8am, every 30 minutes we will be photographing kids anywhere from newborn to 5 years old. This will continue through March 10th - or longer if necessary - so that we can photograph all 200 of you - or however many there happen to be. The last few years, 125 kids have participated in this contest and we expect it to be even bigger this year! We are going to set up our studio and sales room at Kids Rock so it will be extremely convenient. Durango Senior Photographer | Beth | DHS Class of 2013 Model Session Sneak Preview!

We photographed Beth, one of our beautiful Class of 2013 DHS Models, this past Saturday, while it was dumping snow! It was so fun and I love the images we got so much; but it was so cold! It really was perfect though, because Beth had really been hoping that it would be snowing - and it was! I would like to take credit, but as much as I wish I could control the weather, I just can't. We started at Hair Fusion and it was barely snowing at the beginning of hair and make up. By the time we were ready to start shooting, it was coming down pretty good. So, we got a little wet - but it was so worth it, don't you think? I hardly ever get to actually shoot while it's snowing, so this presented a unique and challenging situation. I kept fogging up my viewfinder and we used the reflector as a an actual umbrella in an attempt to keep Beth dry more than we used it to supplement the natural light. We finished in the studio and Beth had totally different curls at the end than she had started with - which was kind of fun. Beth was really great to work with and photograph. She didn't complain about the wet or cold at all and gave me a lot of different looks to work with. Matt shot video for Beth's model session and I can't wait to share the fusion music video with you! Published Durango Photographer | Quote Used in Studio Management Services Ad in Professional Photographer Magazine!

The title of this post says it all, really. We were quoted in an ad for Studio Management Services in Professional Photographer Magazine! And I discovered it was when I was flipping through the magazine, looking for the name of the senior graphic designer for PPMag I just met at Imaging USA in New Orleans a few days ago. I saw the name Allison, with the last name starting with an R and assumed it was another photographer with a similar name. Then I did a double take and realized it was our name! I was so excited! I'm going to have to cut this page out of the magazine and frame it for my wall, just like I did the last magazine article we were featured in. Makes me feel good! On another note - as I mentioned above - I just got back from Imaging USA, a national photography convention put on by PPA (Professional Photographers of America) that was held in New Orleans. I'll share images from my trip as soon as I catch up at the studio. I just couldn't wait to share that we were published again!

Durango Engagement Photographer | Lindsey & SG's Forest Lake's E-Session Sneak Preview!

I went to high school with Lindsey Martinez in Bayfield and have such great memories of spending time with her. I ran into her at a wedding I was photographing 2 summer's ago (her boyfriend at the time, who is now her fiance, was the brother of the bride) and was so happy to see her! I was even happier to get a phone call from her telling me she was engaged, to the guy I had met at that wedding - SG Scales! Obviously, I am extremely excited to be working with these two and so honored to be photographing their wedding! They will be married December 21, 2012 (the end of the world according to some), the winter solstice. So, we wanted to photograph their engagement session in the winter to continue that theme. Well, we've been waiting and waiting for it to snow and we finally decided to just go ahead and use the little snow we do have. Lindsey and SG live in Forest Lakes and they spotted this great fireplace that is the only thing left standing from an old home and they wanted to use it for their portraits. They also wanted to use the beautiful Colorado scenery we are so lucky to live in, so we used the lake too (which was frozen). It was a beautiful day, with dramatic clouds and a slight breeze to blow Lindsey's hair around (you all know how much I love that). We had a great time - Lindsey and SG are so great together - and I hope you love these few of my faves! Wyatt is the most adorable 3 month baby boy I know and he was a perfect gentleman for his session. His parents, Brie and Wesley, were just as amazing as he was and I can't wait to see them all again! Brie, Wes, and Wyatt came in for his session last week and we had a great time. They brought lots of great props and Wyatt smiled like crazy for us, especially when we put him in his Noah's Ark basket. This wonderful family was referred by another favorite family of mine, specifically Shannon Ferrari. I just wanted to thank Shannon for being such an amazing client and also for sending us more amazing clients. I feel so honored! Thanks Brie and Wes for such a great session and I hope you love these few of my faves!

Durango Wedding Photographer | Sherri & Terry's Wedding on Skates Sneak Preview!

Sherri and Terry were married 1.1.12 on ice - literally! They are both ice hockey players and wanted to be married on the ice rink in their skates - so that's just what they did. I was so excited about this wedding since it was such a unique concept and Sherri and Terry were so wonderful to work with! I was slightly concerned about my safety while photographing their wedding on the ice - you probably all know that I am not the most coordinated person out there and while I am photographing, I never look where I'm going, much less worry about the kind of terrain I am on. So, Matt was given a pair of broomball shoes to wear on the ice and I got to wear these cool ice pick thingies that slip on over your shoes. We were unstoppable in our new footwear! Chapman Hill let us use the ice rink for the ceremony, then the guests got to skate around for a while. It was so, so fun! There were so many great details, like Sherri & Terry's guests creating a aisle to walk down under their raised hockey sticks and the receiving line consisting of high fives. As one guest put it, (in their guest book) "That was the coolest ceremony I have ever attended..." The reception was at the Irish Embassy and everyone had such a great time hanging out together. Thank you Sherri and Terry for allowing us to capture your wedding day and I hope you love this sneak preview!

Gallup Senior Photographer | Faith's Durango Senior Portrait Session Sneak Preview!

Faith a Class of 2012 Senior in Gallup, New Mexico and I was so honored she and her family came all the way to Durango for me to photograph Faith's portraits! Faith's cousin, Mariah, came in for her senior portraits earlier in the fall (Mariah is from Farmington), and when Faith saw Mariah's portraits, they decided we were the studio for them. We had way too much fun on Faith's session! Faith (and her mom and sister) drove straight from the hair salon in Gallup to my studio and we jumped right in. We started outside in the beautiful afternoon light before it got cold, then ended the session in the studio. Faith has such beautiful blue eyes and pretty blonde hair and Faith brought great outfits and props for her session. Faith is a super star in track and soccer, so she brought her many, many medals and plaques to use in some of her portraits. We surrounded her with her soccer ball, shoes, and all her awards. What an accomplishment and show of hard work! I was very impressed, as you can tell. I hope you love these few of my faves!

Durango Senior Photographer | Taylor's Class of 2013 Model Session Sneak Preview!

Taylor Marshall is our first Class of 2013 model to be photographed for her model session and we had a blast! Taylor's older sister, Colin, was a model for us 2 years ago, when she was a senior. Colin was our "top model" for the Class of 2011 and I am so excited to have Taylor as a model for the Class of 2013! We started at Hair Fusion for hair and make up, of course. This time, however; Matt shot video the entire session, so we have created a fusion slideshow of video and stills for Taylor's session. I can't wait to share that with you! First, I wanted to share the usual 5 faves, like I do from each session I photograph. The first is from the little chapel area at St. Mark's - I love that wrought iron gate Taylor is hanging onto. Then as we walked back toward the car, I spotted this wood fence that made such a great monochromatic background with Taylor's creme shirt and brown hair - that one might be my fave favorite. Then we went to my usual favorite river spots and used my favorite 4-in-1 tree trunk. We finished the session in the studio and we used 2 of my new backdrops - and I LOVE them! Hope you love them too!

Durango Family Photographer | The Rohren Family Portrait Session Sneak Preview

I love the Rohren Family. I photographed their son, Michael, for his senior portraits 2 years ago and I loved working with them then. And even though their daughter, Emily, is only a freshmen, I can't wait to photograph her senior portraits! So I was very excited to photograph the whole family! We decided to photograph the session in their backyard, as they live out in the Animas Valley. The red cliffs covered in snow made a gorgeous backdrop and The Rohren's are a gorgeous family. It was cold and snowing lightly, but the Rohren's were great sports and we got a lot of great images. I brought a bench from the studio for them to sit on, which worked perfectly since everything else was covered in snow. We also used the snow covered pine trees out their back door for a back drop, which I also loved. I love Durango covered in snow! When I was selecting my favorite images for this blog post, I ended up with 12, instead of the usual 5, so I had to narrow my faves way down (which means we did good!). I hope you love them!

Durango Family Photographer | Justus's 1 Year Session Sneak Preview!

Justus is technically 13 months old, but we photographed his 1 year session last week, and I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed watching him grow this past year. I adore the Ferrari Family and being able to spend time with them each session has been wonderful. I plan to write a blog post about Justus' first year - from the maternity session so this most recent, 1 year, session - so come back for that! We started this session in the studio, with the family portrait we do each session. Then Justus got to put on this awesome hat - and he even wore it for a few moments - before deciding it was time to take it off. He got to ride his horse next, which he loves to ride in reverse. He is just too cute! Then we headed outside to play in the snow. He has the coolest Carhartt jacket and boots perfect for the winter weather. Justus got to go for a sled ride while his parents pulled him around, in the beautiful late afternoon light. It was an amazing session, as always, and I hope you love these few of my faves!

Mariah Stahl is one of my Class of 2012 Seniors - you may remember her blog post from her senior session a while back. I enjoyed working with Mariah and her mom, Cheryl, so much during her senior portrait experience - I couldn't wait to photograph the whole family! Well, Mariah, Cheryl, Phil, and Phil (father and son) came in for their family session this past weekend. Phil had just gotten into town the night before, home from college for the holidays. We headed up to the Lion's Den for the gorgeous snow covered mountain backdrops. It was a fast and fun session since we stayed with just the one location and their next stop was for food. It ended up being a really nice afternoon, which I was glad for, since the Stahl family came up from New Mexico for their session. They were all great to work with, allowing me to try every one of my ideas at least once. And I was really impressed with how well Mariah and her brother, Phil, got along - I don't see that with every family. Thanks so much and I hope you love these few of my faves!

Durango Senior Photographer | Prom Dress in Skiis Fashion Shoot Sneak Preview!

Wow! What an amazing day we had yesterday, photographing 4 of my amazing senior models in prom dresses in the snow! You might be wondering why we would do such a thing!

Well, Emily Goodin, who owns Boutique Couture in Chattanooga, Tennessee, contacted me about doing a photo shoot to advertise her prom dress trunk show. She is going to bring about 200 dresses all the way from her home to Durango at the end of February for a trunk show! So all you juniors and seniors can buy your dresses here in town instead of having to travel to do so - saving you time and money and these dresses are amazing! We started the day bright and early, matching dresses with models at the studio. Then we headed over to Hair Fusion, for incredible hair and make up that matched the incredible dresses! April's Garden even provided us with wrist corsages for the models to wear with their dresses. Then we met Tori, our gracious DMR host, at the Durango Mountain Institute and started the shoot. Here are just a few of my favorites - stay tuned for more! And look for these images around town - we're hoping the Durango Herald will want to print some, as well as the local school newspapers, etc, etc. And who knows - maybe we can be featured in PP Magazine again. I love this concept so much, I am planning to do more prom dress shoots with more of my models and I can't wait! I hope you love these few!

Durango Senior Photographer | Dustin & Derek's Senior Portrait Session Sneak Preview!

Dustin and Derek are both Class of 2012 Seniors at Durango High School. We photographed their sessions together, 2 days before the yearbook deadline! They were both so funny and really fun to photograph. We started the session up at Baker's Bridge for the river and rocks, then came back down into town for some walls and doorways. These two knew exactly what they wanted, which was great. I would give either Derek or Dustin the keys to the car so one could change while I was photographing the other. We joked about one of them taking off in the car, leaving the rest of us stranded, but I wasn't (too) worried. They seemed trustworthy to me! We finished the session in the studio. Then we looked at the images right out of the camera so we could pick the yearbook portraits. These are some of Derek and Dustin's favorites, as well as a few of mine. Hope you love them!

Durango Holiday Photographer | Kids Rock Santa Portraits on Noel Night

We got a phone call from Kids Rock with the opportunity to photograph kids with Santa on Noel Night last week. We love building new relationships and were very excited to work with Kids Rock! There were a few kids who decided against having their portraits taken with Santa (and I completely understand; I was afraid of Santa when I was little too), but for the most part, everyone was very excited to see Santa. He gave out candy canes and listened to wish lists and we got to watch the magic. Kids Rock is such a great store and even though I don't have kids yet, I wanted to buy everything I saw. I fell in love with a teddy bear that plays peek-a-boo with you and multiple baby outfits. They even have adorable handmade tutu's - so I may go on a shopping spree soon. Thanks to all the wonderful families who came by on Noel Night and let us photograph your children with Santa!

Jessica called me about a family portrait session after hearing about us from another favorite family of mine. Jessica and her husband, Beau, have a beautiful 3 year old, Lana. So the 3 of them, and Jessica's parents, Charlie and Cheryl, got together for their family portrait session last week. It was the last day before it got cold and started snowing last week, so we timed it just perfectly! I even had to shed a layer during the session. Lana was adorable, striking poses for the camera. I told the Brooks about a trick I learned photographing a wedding. Instead of saying "cheese" for the camera, you can say "money", with an even better result because that usually makes people laugh. By the end of the session, Lana was telling us to say money - so cute! We photographed the session at Charlie and Cheryl's home, in their "backyard" - which is just gorgeous! I can't wait to see what we can design together with these portraits - holiday cards, wall collages, etc. This family was so great to work with and I hope you love these few of my faves!

Durango Family Photographer | The Candelaria Family Train Track Session Sneak Preview!

The Candelaria Family is another of my favorite families to work with and photograph! Rianne, the eldest daughter, is one of our stunning Class of 2012 Senior Models. I love each time I get to work with Rianne and her family. I enjoyed her model session so much I didn't think it could get any better. But Rianne's senior session was even better! So, I was really, really excited for their family session! They wanted something fun and a little different, so we decided on the train tracks and trestle bridge at Rotary Park. We met there, as they brought their dogs, and we headed out onto the bridge. If you've read many of my blog posts, you'll know that I never venture out all the way onto the bridge for safety purposes. But the Candelaria "kids" didn't have the same fear. So we got some great images of them sitting in the middle of the trestle bridge! By the end of the session, everyone was covered in soot and leaves (there was a big leaf fight), but it was well worth it and I love all the images we got! I hope you love these few of my faves!

Durango Family Photography | The Dody Family Sleeping Beauty Ranch Session Sneak Preview!

The Dody Family, Luan, Brett, and Lauren, came in for their family portrait session the Friday before last. I have really enjoyed getting to know and work with this family this year! Lauren is another of our incredible Class of 2012 Senior Models and working with her and her family has been wonderful. It was finally warming up a bit and Luan wanted Durango backdrops, like the red cliffs, train tracks, and snow covered mountains. So, I asked permission to use Animas Valley Sleeping Beauty Ranch for their portraits - and it was perfect! Slightly windy, but still perfect. We played around in the grass and on the dock for a while, then we grabbed the dogs from the car and went for a walk. We used the train tracks that run right along the ranch, then we headed up to Fort Lewis College for the breathtaking view up at the Lion's Den. The light was incredible - it was slightly overcast and we got to shoot in that magic light as the sun was going down. The Dody Family was moving to Austin the next day, and they will be missed here! I hope you love these few of my faves!

The Delgado family; Mark, Winston, and Raquel, is one of my favorite families to work with and to photograph! Raquel, one of our amazing Class of 2012 Senior Models, first brought her family in on her 16th birthday for family portraits. That won me over right there - that Raquel wanted portraits for her birthday - a girl after my own heart! I had a great time getting to know them during that first family portrait process and have loved every second I get to spend with Raquel (which has been quite a few lately - she's been in my studio almost as much as I have the past couple of weekends)! So when the Delgado's decided to do another family session before Raquel graduates, I was ecstatic. Plus, they brought their adorable dogs, Dusty and Dudley, and I happen to be in love with Dudley. We started in the studio, then headed outside to brave the cold weather to get those beautiful snow covered mountain backdrops. Then we headed to the park for portraits with the dogs. Of course, I had a wonderful time, and I will really miss seeing this family as much once Raquel is off at college. I hope they come visit me every once in a while and I hope you love these few of my faves!

Walker came in for his senior portrait session last Sunday, before Thanksgiving break started. It was probably the warmest day we'd had in weeks and it was so nice! Walker was a lot of fun to work with and to photograph. He brought a couple of really great hats and I loved all of his shirt selections. He was up for everything - trying all my suggestions - while also having specific ideas of his own. We started along 3rd Ave on a "new to me" set of stairs. Then we headed up to Fort Lewis College to use the mountain views, without going up to the Lion's Den, since I've been shooting there so often lately. Then we headed down to the river and the train tracks. So, it ended up being a very "Durango" (yes, I am using Durango as an adjective) session. One of the reasons I love being a photographer here is that Durango has such great backdrops. Thanks for such a great session Walker! Hope you love these few of my faves!
