7 Things you didn't know about the new VLC Player + 1 Magic Trick

The VLC Player is one of the most popular media player in the world. Most of you only know that it's only a media player which can play almost every media format present today, but that not true. The new VLC player do so many other things that you've never imagined.

1. Play videos directly through RAR files:
The VLC player can play the videos compressed in the RAR file too. You just have to select the RAR file containing the video and just play it in the VLC player. You can also use the seek bar during the play. Also if a video is spite into parts then just load the first part to VLC player and the rest it will play automatically and play the whole video for you.

2. Rip DVDs:
VLC also includes a basic DVD ripper. Although there are more better DVD rippers present nowadays but VLC DVD ripper also give a decent quality DVD rip. To rip a DVD movie:

a. First click on Media menu and select Convert/Save
b. Then on the pop-up window go to Disc tab
c. Here you can adjust the ripping by selecting the starting time and defining a particular title/chapter
d. Here specify the file name with extension .mpg and start ripping the disc
e. Now click Save to save the ripped file

3. Play videos in ASCII mode:
Now you can play a video ASCII mode too.

a. Just select the Preferences option from Settings menu.
b. Here elaborate the Video tab and select Output Modules
c. Check the Advanced Option checkbox
d. Now select the Video Output Module as Color ASCII Art Video Output
e. Click Ok and play every thing in ASCII

4. Record Videos:
The VLC player can record a video during the playback. Its only possible in the new version of the VLC player. By default the record option is hidden from the users. To view the option click on View >> Advanced Controls.
Now just click the record button to start recording during the playback and click it again to stop recording.

5. Download YouTube or any other online videos:
You can also download YouTube videos on your VLC player. First copy the URL of a video. Now Open Network Stream from the File menu. Here select the HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS option and then paste the URL there then click Ok.
Now while the VLC player streams the video view the Codec Information in Tools. Here at the bottom you'll see a location box, now copy the URL from it to your browser's address bar and your browser will start downloading the video.

6. Convert Audio/Video file formats:
The VLC player also acts as an audio/video converter, i.e., you can also convert the file format of an audio/video file.

a. First go to Media >> Convert/Save
b. Now load a file which you want to change format by clicking the Add button and then click Convert
c. After that choose the new file format of the output file and the output location of the file
d. Done

7. Listen music on online radio:
The new VLC player also has a feature of Online Radio in it. The online radio has so many SOUTcast radio stations in it, you just have to enable the option of online radio.

a. Go to Media >> Services Discovery >> SHOUTcast Radio Listings
b. Now open the playlist and browse the radio stations listed

And now its time for a magic trick:

a. Open VLC player and press Ctrl+N
b. Now in the Customized block type "screen://" (without quotes)
c. Click Ok and see the magic

YouTube Trick: Watch restricted videos without any YouTube/Google Account

Almost everyone nowadays watch videos on YouTube directly or indirectly. But according to a YouTube's policy some videos are restricted from the anonymous users due to their abusive content, which is not appropriate to the user. To watch these videos an anonymous user should have a YouTube or a Goolge Account. But not all users have the account or they didn't have the time to sign-in and then watch the video, hence they are unable to watch these restricted videos.
Now in this YouTube trick, I'm going to reveal a secret method to watch those restricted videos without having any YouTube/Goolge Account.
Step 1: Copy the hyperlink of the restricted video you wanna watch.

Step 2: Paste the link in the address bar in a new tab/window of your web browser.

Step 3: Here in the address bar you'll see a URL something like this
"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnt4geeks" (It's a dummy URL).

Step 4: Now from the URL delete "watch?" and "=".

Step 5: After that enclose the letter 'v' from the two Slashes (/).

Step 6: Now the URL will looks like this
"http://www.youtube.com/v/tnt4geeks" (It's a dummy URL).

Step 7: Hit Enter key and there you are watching the restricted video of YouTube.

Remove Autorun.inf virus manually

Autorun virus is one of the most widely spread virus in the world. This virus corrupts almost each & every logical & temporary drives attached to the infected computer. Autorun virus is also capable of spreading through computer networks and USB drives. It'll either replace or modify the existing settings in the infected computer or device. It is very difficult to remove autorun virus as it modifies many of the system settings.

Some symptoms of autorun virus are:

1. Whenever you double click on a drive to open, it'll open in a new window
2. Disable show hidden files and folders option

3. You won’t be able to access the drive completely, you have to browse the drive by Exploring (Ctrl+E)

4. Blocks access to antivirus websites
5. Disable msconfig

Formatting Windows will not work either for the effective removal of autorun virus as the infection still exists in other hard disk partitions.

To remove the autorun virus completely from the logical & temporary drives there are two methods:

Method 1:

    1. Open command prompt (Click Windows+R >> type cmd).
    2. Change the prompt to the root of drive which is infected, for eg. C:\>
    3. Now type the following command

C:\>attrib -r -h -s c:\autorun.inf|del c:\autorun..inf|md c:\autorun.inf

4. The above command consist of three parts, the first part reset the attribute of the virus file, the second part delete the file and the last part makes the directory with the same name as of the virus file so that the file cannot be create later.

5. Now repeat these steps for all other logical and temporary drives.

6. Also repeat these steps for other *.exe file which are used by the autorun.inf file.

Method 2:

Now I'm gonna teach you this rare method of removing Autorun.inf manually using just WINRAR application.

    1. First Disable Autoplay Option in Windows
2. Open WinRAR.exe
    3. Now browse the drive which is infected with the virus, using the WinRAR explorer.
    4. There you'll see all the files and folders including a file autorun.inf.
    5. Open the file autorun.inf using notepad.
    6. In the autorun.inf file there will be mentioned an exe file with some unusual name such as p3vwxx.exe.
    7. Now close the autorun.inf file and look out for the exe file in the same directory.
    8. After finding the exe file delete both the autorun.inf and the *.exe file from your computer permanently.
    9. Repeat these steps for other drives too.
   10. Restart your computer and that's it you are now free from the Autorun virus.

After that save the file with any name, say tnt4geeks, and with extension .com, for example say tnt4geeks.com

If your Antivirus is working properly then it will generate a warning message and blocks or delete the tnt4geeks.com file immediately. Also some Antiviruses shows the warning message in the step 2 itself, without explicit scanning of the file.

Note: This code do not harm your computer in any form though the Antivirus treats it as a malicious code.

Recover your hacked Gmail account

The account can be recovered in just one or two steps which are described as follows:

Technique 1: There are so many Anonymizer (Proxy) websites are available on internet that can be used to access banned or restricted websites. These Anonymizer websites hide your identity on internet and provide access to the banned websites. As far as your ISP is concerned you are just viewing the Anonymizer's website and not the restricted website.

Technique 2: Another technique to access a banned website is to use its IP address. This technique bypasses the URl based restrictions because you are accessing the website with its IP address instead of its actual URL. There are many websites present which gives you the IP address of any website you want.

Technique 3: You can also open a banned website using any search engine like Google or Bing. Here you just have to make a search of the banned website on any search engine and open the cached page of that website. The link of the cached copy of every website is given near the green colored URL in the search result.

Technique 4: There are also some mini web-browsers that can also open the banned websites on them. Web-browser like Opera Mini can help you to open restricted websites in it. Magic of Windows

Here are some magic tricks or you can say some flaws found in Windows which are unanswered by the Microsoft that why this happens. So just try them out and have fun.

Magic 1:
An Indian discovers that no one can ever create a folder anywhere in the computer namely 'CON' or 'con' or 'Con' or 'cOn' etc.. You can try it by your own as well, so just try it will not create a folder with name 'CON'.

Magic 2:
Now for this magic trick open a new notepad file and type "Bush hid the facts" (without quotes) in it. Save the file with any name and close it. Now re-open it, you'll notice a weird bug.
Actually it is not compulsory to use the above sentence, you can use any sentence with 4 words in it with the same number of alphabets corresponding to the given sentence, for example, try "aaaa bbb ccc ddddd" (without quotes).

Magic 3:
Again this was also couldn't explained by the Microsoft that why this happened. Actually this was found by a Brazilian. One day he just type "=rand(200,99)" (without quotes) in Microsoft Word and presses ENTER. Just try it out by your own.

Magic 4:
We all know the tragic attack on the WTC towers on 9/11. But only few people know that one of the flight that hits one of the WTC tower has flight number Q33N.
Now open any text editor, like Notepad or WordPad or Microsoft Word, and type that flight number Q33N (case sensitive). Now increase the font size to 72 and change the font style to Wingdings. You'll see a miracle.

Browsers may be among the most commonly used applications, but they also offer the greatest number of attack options for dangerous content on the net. To keep viruses, worms and other malware away from your computer when surfing, it's crucial to configure your browser for security.

The firewall on a DSL router is a good first step for protecting the computer during surfing, says Macro Rinne from the computer portal chip.de. But that doesn't hold true if your browser is out of date: "Internet Explorer 6 and 7 or Firefox 2 no longer satisfy current security standards", he says. For optimal protection, he therefore urges users to keep their browsers updated.

There are numerous security tools already present in Firefox and Internet Explorer. The pop-up blocker, for example, prevents more than just annoying ads. It also throttles other windows that can be used to sneak malicious software into PCs. Phishing filters protect personal data against theft.

Firefox offers additional configuration options under the Settings item in the Security tab of the Options dialog box: this includes the ability to block risky or forged websites. It's also a good idea to prohibit websites from installing add-ons on their own. Similar settings are possible under Internet Explorer in the Security tab of the Internet Options dialog box, acceessible from the Tools menu.

Computer owners should also activate all options for warning against attacks, advises Markus Linnemann, managing director of the Institue for Internet Security (IFIS) at the Polytechnic University of Gelsenkirchen in Germany. Lock your private folders without any software

If you want to hide your personal files in your office computer or your friends computer then this trick can help you a lot. The main advantage of using this trick is that you didn't have to buy or download any additional software and its very easy too.

Just follow the following steps to maintain your privacy at some other computer:

Let us assume that you wanna lock a folder named tnt4geeks placed in C: drive (path: C:\tnt4geeks)

Now in the parent folder/drive of the private folder (C: drive in our case), create a new notepad file and type the following code according to your private folder name:

ren tnt4geeks tnt4geeks.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

Now save the text file as lock.bat

After that create another text file and type the following code, according to your private folder, in it:

ren tnt4geeks.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} tnt4geeks

Save this file as key.bat

Now you'll see two files namely lock and key

If you double click on the lock.bat file you cannot view the content of folder named tnt4geeks, instead it will open Control Panel

Now if you want to unlock it again just double click on the key.bat file and that it, you can access the folder again

Note: You can also create the key.bat file whenever it is necessary at any time, but you have to be careful about the folder name

Change icon of an EXE file

Once, one of my friend ask me how to change the icon of an EXE file. Now in this post I'm giving the answer to him and to all the people who have the same question.

There are many tools available in the market which claims to change the icon of an EXE file. But very few people know that they are not platform independent at all, i.e., if you move a file to a new computer the icon again changes to the previous state. But I'll give you a new method to change the icon permanently.

Install the software on your computer by double clicking on the IconChanger38.exe file

Now, right click on the file of which you want to change the icon

Here you'll see a new option Change Icon, click on it

A new window will pop-up of IconChanger software

Now a new window will pop-up asking you to select one of the following two options:

1. Change embedded icon
2. Adjust windows to display custom icon

Here the first option will change the icon permanently and the second one will changes it only for your computer

A hidden web browser in windows

Have you ever seen a hidden web browser in windows? If not I'm going to unhide it for you. Most of the people didn't know that we can also browse web through MS calculator as well. To implement it your self follow the simple steps:

Open the MS calculator, by navigating to Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Calculator or just press the windows key + R and type calc

Now press the F1 key to open the help window

After that click on an icon of a document with a question mark, situated at the top left corner of the help window

Among various options select Jump to URL... option

Now just type a URL in the field required, but remember that you have give the complete URL including http:// (for example http://www.yahoo.com)and not just simple www or equivalent (for example www.yahoo.com or google.com)

Automatically run an application when computer starts

In this post, I'll teach you, how to run an application at the time of startup.If you want to run any application when your computer starts then this trick will help you in it. Now to do this you just need one things present in your computer and that is notepad. Yes, you do not have to install any software for that. Now lets start the proceedings.

Let us consider that you want to start Ms Word, Notepad, Calculator and say Task Manager at the time of startup.

First open a new notepad window

After that type the following code in it

           start /min winword.exe
           start /min notepad.exe
   start /min calc.exe
           start /min taskmgr.exe

Now select the Save As option from File menu and save the file with name tnt4geeks and extension .bat (i.e. tnt4geeks.bat)

After that right click on Start button and click Open

Now open the folder named Programs then open Startup folder inside it

Here in the Startup folder paste the above created batch file tnt4geeks.bat

That's it, when next time you start your computer these four applications will automatically starts, but you can't see the batch file tnt4geeks.bat running because we have chosen to run it in the minimized mode.

You can also add additional applications except these four, but you have to know the commands for that application to run. If you didn't know the commands, don't worry you can see a list of commands in the post names List of RUN Commands. Now just add the command in the file and save it.

Block unwanted emails in Yahoo

Sometimes it is very irritating for us read the email from an unwanted source.If you do not want to receive emails from these unwanted source in yahoo, than this trick will surely help you out. With this trick you can move the emails sent by a specific address directly to the Trash folder.
To block emails just follow the given steps:

Open the login page of Yahoo

Now click on the Options menu at the top right corner of the window

Than select the Mail Options from the drop down list appears

After that a new window/tab will pop-up, here click on the Filters option at the left panel of the window

Now at the right panel select the option named Create or edit filters

After that click on the Add button

Now at the next screen, give any name to the filter and specify the the email address in the From Header field, from which you want to stop receiving emails

Block unwanted emails in Gmail

After that you'll see an option Filter as shown in the picture below (click to enlarge)

In the Filter option click on the Create new filter option

Now in the Form field type the email which you want to block receiving emails from and click on Next Step

Here you'll see a list of operations to be performed on the email specified

Now just check the box in front of Delete it and click on the Create Filter button

Well that's it, now any email received from the blocked email account will be automatically sent to the trash. To again unblock the account just delete the above filter.

Open notepad continuously one after the other

If you want to frustrate someone, like your friends or someone else, by opening the notepad window continuously one after the other then this trick can help you in doing so. You can also implement this trick at your college computers and no one can understand what is happening.

To implement this trick you just need a computer with a text editor like notepad installed on it.

Open the notepad by going to Start >> Run

Type notepad in the text box and press enter

Now in the notepad window and just copy the below mentioned code

           @ECHO off
           :top
           START %SystemRoot%\system32\notepad.exe
           GOTO top

Now save the file with any name but with the extension .bat for example tnt4geeks.bat

That's it, just run the batch file to execute the trick. But beware not to run it o your own system otherwise you'll have to restart your system to recover from it.

You can also set this batch file at startup folder of windows and the file will automatically execute at the time of system start. To insert the file into the startup folder follow the step listed below:

Copy the batch file which you want to sent to the startup folder

Navigate to Start >> All Programs >> Startup

Now right click on the Startup menu and select open

A new window will pop-up after that, and just paste the file in that window

Open office 2007 files into office 2003

This is so because office 2003 only supports the files with extensions .doc for word file, .xls for excel file and .ppt for power point presentations but office 2007 saves the files with extension .docx for word files, .xlsx for excel files and .pptx for power point presentations.

Now imagine that you have prepared an important presentation in power point using office 2007 at your home and the computer at which you have to give the presentation contains only office 2003 instead of office 2007. Well, to overcome this situation Microsoft provides a free of cost compatibility pack to convert office 2007 documents to office 2003 supportable format.

After the download completes, double click on the downloaded file named FileFormatConverter.exe to begin the installation process. During the installation follow the steps of installation explained to you and that's it you are done. Now you can open the office 2007 files in office 2003 pack.

Hide text in notepad

In this trick I'll teach you how to hide the text in the notepad using command prompt. With the help of this trick you can hide the text in notepad and only you can see the hidden text. Using this trick you can easily save your important passwords or any important data which you do not want to share.
So to hide text follow the instructions below:

Click on Start menu and select Run option on it

Now open command prompt by typing cmd in the textbox on the run window

Now navigate to the location where you want to save your text file with hidden data

After that type the following code in the command prompt

C:\>notepad filename.txt:hidden

For example, if you want to save your file in C drive with file name tnt4geeks then type

C:\>notepad tnt4geeks.txt:hidden

After that an alert message will pop-up similar to the following

Select Yes and your file will be created with the name tnt4geeks

Now write your private data in the file and save the file

Now if you open the file directly you cannot see the text you have entered in the file

Hence if you again want to see the text of the file you again have to type the code given above, i.e.

C:\>notepad tnt4geeks.txt:hiddent

That's it notepad opens your file with the hidden text in it

Note: This trick only works on the NTFS file system

Disable balloon tips in windows Xp

For all the newbies on windows Xp, microsoft provided a very useful feature of Balloon Tips. The balloon tips notifies the newbies about how to use windows Xp. But for the experienced users these tips are of no use and also user get irritated by these. So you can disable these tips after reading this post.

To disable the balloon tips follow the steps:

Go to Start menu and click on Run option

Open registry editor by typing regedit in the text box at Run

Now navigate through HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Explorer / Advanced

Then on the right side of the window create a new DWORD value with name EnableBalloonTips

Now Modify this DWORD and enter its value as 0

That's it your balloon tips are permanently disabled

If you again want to enable the balloon tips, just delete the new DWORD and your balloon tips are enabled again

Download from Rapidshare without waiting

To me it's a bit clumsy task to just wait for the downloading get starts. So if you didn't want to wait for downloading as a free user you can kill the waiting time by using a simple javascript.

Select any item for download and click on the link to download it as a free user

Since you are downloading as a free user Rapidshare will force you to wait for some time

When the waiting time starts just enter the following javascript in the address bar of your browser

Hide system shutdown button from start menu

If you want to restrict any user to access shutdown button in the start menu of your computer then this trick will help you in doing so.

To hide the shutdown option follow the simple steps:

Click on start button and select Run

Type regedit in the text box and press enter

In the registry editor locate the following path

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer

Now at the right side of the window, right click and create a new DWORD value and name it NoClose

In the value box of the NoClose assign a value 1

Now close the registry editor and restart your computer

If you again want to unhide the shutdown option just change the value of NoClose to 0 or just delete the new DWORD

Undo sent mails in gmail

Google has introduces a new and a very helpful feature called as Gmail Labs. This feature has many functions to which one of them is undo a sent mail. If you have sent an email to a wrong person or forget to attach one of the file or forget to write something in the content, then this feature can be very useful for you to stop Google to send the email to the receiver.

To enable this feature just follow the simple steps below:

Click on the setting option at the top-right corner of the page

In setting menu select Labs option

Somewhere bottom in the list you'll find an option named Undo Send

Enable the option and save the changes made

That's it, now you can undo any sent mail

But you have to be quick because you'll only get three to five seconds to undo any email

To open a windows program directly without knowing the exact location of it we can use RUN option in the start menu. You just have to keep in mind some commands to start the windows program. Just click on the start button then open run and type the following commands in it.

Hide your disk drives to secure data from other users

If you want to secure any data from other users, many of you will put it in the pen-drives or make a copy in the CD's or DVD's. But what if the data is too large like 10-20 GB or probably more. Well you don't have to worry about it, now you can restrict the access to any of the disk drive for any other user. You can hide any specific disk drive and you can save your data from other users.

To hide the partition of hard disk follow these simple steps :

Firstly, you have to logged in with administrative rights

Open command prompt (click Start >> Run and type cmd)

Type 'diskpart' in the command prompt and a new diskpart prompt will appear

Then type 'list volume' and press enter

Now you'll see a list as shown below

See the volume number of the drive you want to hide, let us consider drive D with volume number 2

Then type 'select volume 2' and you'll get a message that 'Volume 2 is the selected volume'

Now type 'remove letter D' (it is to be noted that, you can only remove the letter of the selected volume, ie. you cannot remove letter E if volume 2 is selected)

That's it your D drive will hide when you reboot your computer

Now to recover the drive again, follow the above procedure till selection of volumes

And instead of typing 'remove letter D' type 'assign letter D'

Just restart the computer, and there it is your drive appears again

Convert Ms Word document into pdf format

You can see ample of software in the web, which convert a word file into pdf file. But they are not satisfactory. You cannot get an exact copy of your word document through it. But I'll teach you how to get an exact copy of your word file in the pdf format very easily, but this trick only works in the Ms office 2007 package.

Before conversion starts you have to download a small plugin Click here to Download (You don't need to worry about the viruses because the above link is of virus free Microsoft's website)

After downloading the plugin, run to install it

Steps to convert .doc to .pdf :

Open your word document, which you want to convert

Click the office button (circular) located at the top-left corner of the window

Now select the Save As option

A new window will pop up in which you'll find an option of "pdf", click on it and then publish it

That's it your pdf version of the word document will store on the same location as your word file without any changes.
