Pada mobil-mobil terdahulu roda dipasang dengan chamber positif untuk menambah daya tahan axle depan, dan untuk mengusahakan agar permukaan ban menyentuh jalan dengan sudut yang tepat untuk mencegah keausan yang tidak rata pada ban bila bagian tengah jalan lebih tinggi dari bagian pinggirnya. Pada mobil-mobil modern, suspensi dan axle dibuat lebih kuat dari yang terdahulu dan permukaan jalan dibuat datar sehingga Camber positif tidak begitu diperlukan. Akibatnya ban disetel dengan camber mendekati Nol (ada beberapa mobil dengan camber Nol). Beberapa mobil bahkan dibuat dengan camber negatif untuk menambah ketahanannya pada waktu membelok tajam.
CAMBER POSITIF
Peranan Camber Positif adalah sebagai berikut :
1. Mengurangi beben vertikal
Bila Camber Nol, beban pada spindle akan diberikan ke garis pusat ban dan spindle, ditandai dengan F’ pada gambar. Ini akan mengakibatkan spindle atau steering knucle mudah bengkok. Dengan camber positif maka beban akan diberikan pada sebelah dalam spindle, yang ditandai dengan F, hal ini mengurangi gaya yang bekerja pada spindle dan steering knucle.
2. Mencegah roda slip
Gaya reaktif F, yang sama dengan beban kendaraan, diberikan kepada roda dengan arah tegak lurus terhadap jalan. F dibagi dalam F1, yang tegak lurus dengan sumbu spindle dan F2 yang sejajar dengan sumbu spindle. F2 mendorong roda kedalam, membantu mencegah roda slip terhadap spindle. Bearing roda sebelah dalam dibuat lebih besar dari sebelah luar untuk mendukung beban ini.
3. Mencegah Camber menjadi Negatif karena beban
Bila kendaraan dibebani, bagian atas roda cenderung miring kedalam karena perubahan komponen suspensi dan bushing yang berkaitan. Camber positif juga membantu mencegah hal ini.

Sumber Tegangan Pada Sepeda Motor

Selain dari sumber tegangan langsung di atas terdapat juga
sumber tegangan alternatif dari sistem kelistrikan utama. Sistem ini
biasanya terdapat pada mesin yang mempunyai sistem kelistrikan di
mana baterai sebagai sumber tegangan sehingga mesin tidak dapat
dihidupkan tanpa baterai. Hampir semua baterai menyediakan arus listrik
tegangan rendah (12 V) untuk sistem pengapian.
Dengan sumber tegangan baterai akan terhindar kemungkinan
terjadi masalah dalam menghidupkan awal mesin, selama baterai,
rangkaian dan komponen sistem pengapian lainnya dalam kondisi baik.
Arus listrik DC (Direct Current) dihasilkan dari baterai
(Accumulator). Baterai tidak dapat menciptakan arus listrik, tetapi dapat
menyimpan arus listrik melalui proses kimia. Pada umumnya baterai yang
digunakan pada sepeda motor ada dua jenis sesuai dengan kapasitasnya
yaitu baterai 6 volt dan baterai 12 volt.
Di dalam baterai terdapat sel-sel yang jumlahnya tergantung pada
kapasitas baterai itu sendiri, untuk baterai 6 volt mempunyai tiga buah sel
sedangkan baterai 12 volt mempunyai enam buah sel yang berhubungan
secara seri dan untuk setiap sel baterai menghasilkan tegangan kurang
lebih sebesar 2,1 volt. Sementara untuk setiap sel terdiri dari dua buah
pelat yaitu pelat positif dan pelat negatif yang terbuat dari timbal atau
timah hitam (Pb). Pelat-pelat tersebut disusun bersebelahan dan diantara
pelat dipasang pemisah (Separator) sejenis bahan non konduktor dengan
Pelat-pelat ini direndam dalam cairan elektrolit (H2SO4). Akibat
terjadinya reaksi kimia antara pelat baterai dengan cairan elektrolit
tersebut akan menghasilkan arus listrik DC (Direct Current). Adapun
reaksi kimia yang terjadi adalah sebagai berikut :
PbO2 + H2SO4 + Pb -> Pb SO4 + H2O + PbSO4
PbO2 = Timah peroksida
PbSO4 = Sulfat Timah
H2SO4 = Cairan Elektrolit
H2O = Air
Jika baterai telah digunakan dalam jangka waktu tertentu maka
arus listrik yang tersimpan di dalam baterai akan habis, oleh sebab itu
diperlukan sistem untuk melakukan pengisian kembali. Sistem pengisian
ini memanfaatkan arus dari kumparan yang terlebih dahulu disearahkan
dengan menggunakan penyearah arus yang disebut dengan Cuprok
(Rectifier).
Reaksi yang terjadi pada saat pengisian baterai adalah sebagai
berikut :
Pb SO4 + H2O + PbSO4 -> PbO2 + H2SO4 + Pb
jumlah pelat negatif lebih banyak dibandingkan dengan pelat positif untuk
setiap sel baterainya.
