La leggerezza con la quale si snoda il racconto è probabilmente il più grande pregio di questa pellicola candidata all'Oscar. Sulla carta rischiava di rimanere una melensa storia di formazione condita da episodi scandalosi inerenti il rapporto tra la protagonista adolescente e il suo più maturo seduttore.
