substr - php string function

This function returns part of the string.

Syntax:

string substr ( string $string , int $start [, int $length ] )

Example:

$mystring = "learn php";

echo substr($mystring,2,3); //returns arn

echo substr($mystring -2,2); //returns hp
if start is negative the character started from the end.

?>

strtoupper - php string function

This function converts the alphabetic characters to uppercase

Syntax:

string strtoupper ( string $str )

Example:

$mystring="Learn PHP";

echo strtoupper($mystring); // returns LEARN PHP

strtolower - php string function

This function converts the alphabetic characters to lowercase.

Syntax:

string strtolower ( string $str )

Example:

str_split - php string function

This function converts the given string into an array.

Syntax:

array str_split ( string $string [, int $split_length = 1 ] )

This function takes two parameters,

first param is the string to split.
second param is the length in which the string to be split,
if no length specified it takes it as 1.

Example:

$myarr= str_split($mystring);

echo "<pre>";print_r($myarr);echo "</pre>";

?>

outputs,

Array
(
    [0] => l
    [1] => e
    [2] => a
    [3] => r
    [4] => n

)

$myarr= str_split($mystring,2);

str_rot13 - php string function

This function performs ROT13 encode & decode in the strings.

Syntax:

string str_rot13 ( string $str )

This function shifts every letter by 13 places.
This function leaves non-alpha characters as it is.

Example:

echo str_rot13("abc 1.2c"); // produces 'nop 1.2p'

?>

lcfirst - php string function

— Make a string's first character lowercase

Syntax:

string lcfirst ( string $str )

This function converts the first letter of the given string, if the first letter
is an alphabetic.

Example:

$mystring="LEARN PHP";

echo lcfirst($mystring); // returns 'lEARN PHP'

rand() - php function

Syntax:

    int rand ( void )
    // returns randomly generated integer

    int rand ( int $min , int $max )
    // returns random integer between given minimum and maximum number.

str_shuffle - php function

Used to shuffle a string.

Syntax:

string str_shuffle ( string $str )

Example:

$mystring = 'sdfse';
$mystring = str_shuffle($mystring);

echo $mystring; // returns shuffled string like: fdses

str_repeat - php function

Used to repeat a string.

Syntax:

string str_repeat ( string $input , int $multiplier )

Example:

echo str_repeat("*", 3); // produces ***

stristr - php function

       This function returns all of haystack from the first occurence of the needle.

Syntax:

    string stristr ( string $haystack , mixed $needle [, bool $before_needle = false ] )

    here,

    heystack means the string to search, needle means the letter or word to be
    searched,

    before_needle means the part before the needle. So if this is set to true,

    the part before the first occurence of the needle will be returned
    otherwise,
    the part after the first occurence of the needle will be returned.

Example:

$mystring = 'OUTPUT';
echo stristr($mystring, 't'); // returns 'PUT'
echo stristr($mystring, 't', true); // As of PHP 5.3.0, returns 'OU'

?>

if the needle is not a string then the string converted to an integer and applied
as ordinal value of ther character.

<?php

$mystring = 'ALTER';
echo stristr($mystring, 97); // 97 = lowercase a
// returns 'ALTER'

?>

strlen - php function

This function returns lenth of the string

int strlen ( string $string )

Example:

echo strlen($mystring); // returns 5

$mystring = ' learn ';
echo strlen($mystring); // returns 7

strcasecmp - php function

           —This function can be used for comparing two strings.
Syntax:

    int strcasecmp ( string $str1 , string $str2 )

    —It is a case-insensitive string comparison.

Example:

$mystring1 = "Learn";
$mystring2 = "learn";
if (strcasecmp($mystring1, $mystring2) == 0) {
echo "Both the strings are equal";
}

str_replace - php function

             This function replaces the search string with replacement string.

Syntax:

           mixed str_replace ( mixed $search , mixed $replace , mixed $subject [, int
           &$count ] )

          This function looks for the search string and replaces all occurences of that
          string with the replacement string.

Example:

    $mystring = " Learn Professional way of coding";
    $output=str_replace(" ","",$mystring);
    echo $output; // LearnProfessionalwayofcoding
?>

explode — php function

           explode - splits a string into an array using a delimiter.

Syntax:
    array explode ( string $delimiter , string $string [, int $limit ] )

    -This function splits a string as an array of strings based on given delimiter.

    -If given delimiter is an empty string (""), this function will return FALSE.

    -If given delimiter is not in the given string this function will return an empty
     array. Otherwise an array that consists a string will be returned.

Example:

$mystring = "Learn**Professional**way**of**coding...";
$myarray = explode("**", $mystring);
echo $myarray[0]; //Learn
echo $myarray[1]; //Professional

?>

md5 - php function

md5 - This function calculates the md5 hash of the given string

Note:

md5 is an one way encryption.

Syntax

string md5 ( string $str [, bool $raw_output = false ] )

str - string to be hashed.

raw_output - returns the has in raw binary format of length 16

Example

$mystr = 'hello';

if (md5($mystr) === '5d41402abc4b2a76b9719d911017c592') {

echo "Welcome!"; }

crc32 -php function

crc32 — This function calculates the crc32 polynomial of a given string

Syntax

int crc32 ( string $str )

Note:

Use "%u" formatter of sprintf() or printf() to get the string representation of the unsigned crc32 checksum.Because php integer type is signed.

printf("%u\n", $cs);
