Since I posted my kitchen makeover back in March, I've had lots of emails and questions regarding little details in the room so I wanted to tackle those questions in a post since I've had many of the same question. I also wanted to show you guys what I've been up to in the little space. I believe no room is ever "done" so bear with me as I continue to switch things up and rearrange. I think it keeps things exciting since I'm sure you've figured out, I like change in my home.

Since you saw it last, I've added a little plate rack and some fun plates. The plate rack came from a local thrift store and I painted it with Krylon's Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint. The two decorative plates came from Marshall's and the white plate in behind the bird came from Dollar Tree.

I also added this little chandelier! It was $7.99 at a thrift store and I gave it a coat of glossy white spray paint to update it a bit. I love a fun chandelier!

I plan on adding some beads and hanging crystals but I'm still scouring for deals on pretty beads and crystals. I really don't want to spend a fortune on the beads since the chandelier itself was such a smokin' deal. If you know any good sources, by all means let me know! Pretty please. :)

I also added this DIY Canned Food Storage cabinet. I have been floored by the amount of traffic this little project has generated to our little blog. I only have you to thank my dear readers. THANK YOU again for your comments, pinning, linking and support on this project. You're amazing!

Now let's answer some of your questions!

FAQs:

Q: Where did you get your fabric for the Faux Roman shade??

A: My sweet friend Denyse gave it to me but she had originally purchased it at JoAnn's. I am not sure if they carry it anymore but they have very similar fabric. I believe it is Waverly but not 100% sure and unfortunately, I do not know the name of the fabric. Wish I could be more help on that one!

Q: You have a family of 4... but where's the 4th chair at your kitchen table?

A: I have a two boys ages 2 and 3. My two year old still sits in a high chair so we only need 3 chairs right now. I have 4th chair for him once he transfers out of the high chair but for now, the high chair is working for us at meal time.

This is what this room looks like on any normal day.

Q: Where did your microwave go? It's on the counter top in the before picture but I don't see it there in the after?

A: My microwave now sits on top of our refrigerator. We don't use it all that often so it works well for us here; not to mention, it frees up some much needed counter space.

3. Pretty these up and replace existing switch plate covers. I got them from my friend's yard sale when she moved away. I love them! I already cleaned them really well and sprayed them with Rustoleum's Heirloom White spray paint but I may glaze or distress them a bit then I need to install them.

I have a pair of black book case that I got from Ikea like 6 years ago and they are in my front room/office. They need some amping up!

Garden Party Baby Shower with DIY Trays

My Brother Stetson and his wife Holly are having their first baby in July. The baby shower was yesterday at my mom and dad's house and it turned out soooo cute. Although, I get home and think to myself....A. I should have taken my good camera to the shower and B. I should have take more pictures! I hate that, it happens every time! I did not get pictures of everything but I did get a few good shots.

Remember my DIY Serving Trays that I made for the Valentines party. I also made a few for my mom. She found these vintage silver serving tray at thrift stores and antique store. They turned out great and she can use them for many different events and parties since they are so neutral.

My Mom made some very yummy cupcakes for the party. I will have to get the recipes from her so I can share them with you.

Outback was set up with a vintage/old garden feel, but the pinwheels made it a little more fun.

This is a very bad picture ( I was using my phone)

but hanging from the trees and placed around the fountain were around 50 hanging jars full of lit tea lights. The hanging jars were a score at target in the $1 section!

Through out the house and the backyard were little statues of birds and also fresh flowers.

This flower cart was a great purchase that my mom made. It was perfect for the drinks!

I loved the centerpiece that my mom came up with. Pinwheels and a Bird house inside a mason jar with bird seed! LOVED IT!

I really wished I would have taken more picture! Everything turned out sooo great!

My mom really does know how to throw an over the top party!

Now we are the ready to meet sweet baby ELIZA BANKS!

You know how my boys' room is an airplane theme? If you're new around here, you can check it out here. Shortly after I posted the boy's airplane room reveal, Tracie from Happywood Goods contacted me and asked me if she could make my boys an airplane shelf for their room... what the?? YES PLEASE! I showed my son, Carter, her Etsy Shop and he kept pointing to everything and saying "Oh Mommy! I like that!" We ooooh'd and awwww'd over her shop for quite a while. I was so excited when she even let me pick the colors for the plane to match their room perfectly. Is this real life? Somebody pinch me! The boys and I are thrilled to have it up on their wall!

How stinkin' cute is that!?? I LOVE IT!

Happywood goods has fantastic products and totally reasonable prices. Tracie is a gem to work with and she had the plane built and shipped in lightning speed! I couldn't be more impressed with her product, shop and friendliness! I'm a huge fan if you can't tell! You've got to head over to her shop and take a look around. They've got some darling stuff!

I don't know about you but I get very overwhelmed when it comes to food storage and year supply. There are so many great websites to help start your food storage. I just wanted someone to tell me what I needed to get and how to get everything on a budget.

I was emailed a list of how to build your food storage on a $5 a week budget and I was beyond excited! I wanted to share this list with you guys. I did make a few minor changes... and if your family does not like tuna then buy canned chicken instead.

Here's a printable list so you can print it off and keep it somewhere handy!

After this list is complete you will have:

100 lbs of Flour

180 lbs of sugar

40 lbs of powdered milk

12 lbs of salt

10 lbs of honey

5 lbs of peanut butter

45 cans of tomato soup

15 cans of cream of mushroom soup

15 cans of cream of chicken soup

24 cans of tuna

21 boxes of macaroni and cheese

500 tabs of aspirin

1000 multi-vitamins

6 lbs of yeast

6 lbs of shortening

12 lbs of macaroni

Isn't that awesome!?

A few other things that I added to my shopping list for year supply are:

Cases of Water
Toothpaste
Deodorant
Toilet Paper
Soap
Shampoo and Conditioner
Laundry Soap
Feminine Products (if necessary)
Stash $5 here and there in your year supply, so you have a little cash.
Also, if you have baby or toddler, you may want to include items for them such as diapers, wipes, formula and/or baby food.

I know that there are many other things that can be added to this list, this is just what I came up with.

I would love to hear what you guys have come up with...I am ALWAYS looking for more ideas! Leave any suggestions in the comments as I'm sure we could all use each other's expertise!

DIY Stenciled Pillow {with fabric paint and vinyl)

After revealing my little boys' airplane room, I had several inquiries asking for tutorials on various things in the room so I'm going to try to take you through a few of them. I'm going to start with how to stencil a design on a pillow using fabric paint and vinyl. The cool thing is, you can stencil ANYTHING! Pillows, rugs, furniture, wood, canvas, anything!

You will need:

Item to stencil a design on (I used muslin fabric found at Hobby Lobby)

Vinyl cutter (Silhouette or Cricut)

Vinyl

Fabric paint (I used Tulip brand fabric paint)

Stencil brush or sponge brush

First, you'll take your fabric, or whatever you're stenciling and place a "negative space" vinyl over top. The negative space is the outside area of the design.

Next, you'll take a sponge brush and lightly dab fabric paint into the empty space. They make stencil paint brushes but I didn't have one and I wanted to use all materials I had on hand for this project so I just used a foam craft brush. Easy enough huh?

Repeat until you've got the area covered really well. TIP: I placed a piece of cardboard under my fabric to prevent any bleeding onto unwanted surfaces.

Let it dry and voila! DONE! So simple! PS... to make the pillow, I sewed 2 rectangles together and stuffed it with Polyfill from JoAnns Fabrics. You can find another way to make a throw pillow case here.

A quick and easy way to rhinestone shoes!

I have always loved sparkle in my life. I wanted to jazz up some of my girls flip flops for the summer.

I ordered some size 16ss rhinestones from www.rhinestoneshop.com.

He ships very quick and he is the cheapest I have seen.

I used about 1 gross (144 rhinestones) per pair of shoes.

You will also need:

Beeswax (I ordered This Starter Kit)

Wood stick

E-6000

Put a little bit of rolled up beeswax on the end of the stick

Use the other end of the stick to apply E-6000 on to the shoe.

(I normally put some of the E-6000 on to a plate, so I can do a little bit of glue at a time)

Don't use to much glue or it will get all over the rhinestones and make them "cloudy" or dirty.

Use the beeswax on the stick to pick up the rhinestone and put them in place.

I did a cute flower design on the pink shoes and then I covered the silver shoes in crystal rhinestones.

With this technique I can bust out a pair of shoes in about 15 mins!

If you are short on rhinestones, get a cute ribbon make a bow, then rhinestone a button for the center. Hot glue the bow onto the top of the shoe and you are good to go!

I love being able to dress up a pair of plain Old Navy flip flops!

My House Tour {and our story!}

Welcome to my house tour! As you probably know, my husband is a dental student so we packed up our little car and relocated from Mesa, Arizona to the great state of New York! He attends to University at Buffalo School of Dentistry so we are living in Cheektowaga, New York. Cheektowaga is a suburb of Buffalo. We are renting our home from a fabulous family that just finished their dental school journey.

We moved in July 2011 with exactly what fit in my car. THAT'S IT! Not a "stick of furniture" as my grandmother said. We basically had our clothes, toiletries and a few personal things. PS. we have a Nissan Rogue (a small crossover SUV) that my hubby drove across the country so most of my clothes didn't even make the trip!

We are on a major tight budget due to my husband being in school full-time and I only work only 2 days a week. My goal was to prove that decorating can be inexpensive and anyone can do it! We did not pay over $40 for any of our furniture or accessories (with exception to our sofa and our mattress) and we did all of the furniture, makeovers and decorating ourselves.

I was really nervous about moving 2000+ miles away from "home" to a place I had never been and to a place and I didn't even know one person. We rented our house without seeing the house or neighborhood in person. We got very lucky that everything went smoothly renting a home across the country.

Honestly, there are times that is very hard to be away but I truly love it here. My home has become a place that I love to be and making it feel like "home" has been an incredible journey (although I'll never be "done"!) ;) As several have commented on various posts, I am so lucky to have a landlord that respects my crazy ideas and my wanting to make their house our Home! Thanks Kandis and Josh! :)

When you walk through the door, you step right into our living room/family room!

I have a tutorial for just about EVERYTHING in this room so check out the Living Room post here. We spend the majority of our time in this room. It is the perfect space to play and relax with the kiddos!

Next you walk through the striped hallway!

Turn left and that leads you to my craft room! This is the only girly space in the house since I live with 3 boys but hopefully someday I'll get a baby girl to decorate for. Until then, this space gets the girly decorating out of my system. :)

Behind door #3 in the hallway is our master bedroom. I love black and white and I LOVE mustard yellow! This just fits my personality perfectly and my hubby loves it too! I mean it's his room too after all. ;)

Down the other direction in the hallway is our kitchen and dining space. We obviously spend lots of time in here too! I have a couple more little projects for this room but it is one of my favorite rooms for sure!

I updated the kitchen with paint and accessories to make it match my style and vision. I really love how it all came together. I couldn't be happier! The full kitchen reveal post can be found here.

Then, of course, our little dining room space. It took me some trial and error to see where I wanted this space to go but once the kitchen cabinets were painted, I found my inspiration and got her done! See the full post here.

Finally, I'll take you upstairs to spy on the kiddos! hehe! Juuuust kidding! Kind of. Let's check out their airplane inspired room.

My boys love their airplane room and I do too! Its such a great place to play and go crazy! But it cleans up nicely! I love that. You can find my little boys' bedroom / playroom makeover here.

But of course, if you don't find the boys playing in their room, you can probably find them out in the back yard! Our backyard is my current project and I'm LOVING how it's coming along. I'll show you soon I promise! You can't beat gorgeous green grass and a place to play and relax!

Wowza! This post has me motivated to clean my house!!! haha! Just a little FYI to keep it real, if you stop by for a visit, maybe 1-2 rooms will be this clean. Otherwise you'll find toys, laundry and chaos running about... and guess what? That's how we like it! I love that my home cleans up nicely but is a place that we can LIVE IN! Kids are encouraged to run around and play, jump on their beds and have fun! I have about 2398247392 million ideas and projects to go but I finally feel like we didn't "just move in". And lemme tell ya, that's a wonderful feeling!

I am so grateful to have a home that I love and fellow bloggers to inspire me to make this little rental house feel like home for the next 3 years at least.

DIY PVC Water Fun

We don't have a pool but here in AZ we need some water fun! I have seen some PVC water sprinklers before, but the husband and I wanted to take it to a whole new level. For around $30 we were able to create this water tunnel that will keep us cool through out the summer.

Kyle, my husband used:

100' of 1/2" Schedule 40 PVC Pipe

1- 1/2" solvent by 3/4" male PVC adapter

1- Brass 3/4 female N.P.T. by female hose bib adapter

7- 1/2" PVC Tee's

10- 1/2" PVC 90's

2- 1/2" PVC 4 Way Tee's

Clear PVC Glue

PVC Pipe Cutters

Teflon Tape

Tape Measure

Drill with 5/16" drill bit

The 100' of pipe may be a little more or less than you need depending on how high, long, and wide you choose to make the sprinkler. Its always a good idea to buy a few more of each fitting for mistakes and any changes you may want to make.

My girls and all the neighborhood kids are having the best time with this new toy! This project took about an hour total to put together and then an hour for the glue to dry!

Everyone needs to build one of these!

Build your own extra storage! (DIY Canned Food Organizer)

First of all, how the HECK is it May??? What on Earth!? Anyway, have you see my little kitchen?

It's totally tiny but does a fine job suiting our needs...mostly... One problem I've run into with a small space is storage space. I've had to get a little creative and maximize the empty space hiding in the room since we're lacking a pantry. However, our kitchen had about a 6" opening between our wall and the refrigerator. Which btw, I didn't even notice until I saw this pin on pinterest and knew I needed my own version stat! This idea blew me out of the water! It will solve all of the world's problems!! Or at least my kitchen space dilemma! *wink*

**NOTE** There are too many shelves on this plan. I ended up only doing 7 shelves total opposed to the 9 on the plan. My measurements and "shopping list" will include supplies for 7 shelves so just pretend those other 2 aren't there in the plan above. ;)

Shopping list:

9 - 1x4" boards cut to 29 1/2" (top board, shelves, bottom board)

2 - 1x4" boards cut to 64" (Side boards)

1 - Thin board cut to 31 1/2 x 64" (I used bead board/wainscoting board from Home Depot)

4 - 1 1/2 - 2" Metal Casters that hold 50+ lbs (I used 2", 80lb)

7 - 7/16 dowels cut to 30" long (lumber section of Home Depot)

Handle or knob

Paint and Brush, Roller or Sprayer (if needed)

Tools and Supplies:

Drill

7/16" drill bit for drilling dowel holes

several wood screws

several 2" nails

several finishing nails

hammer

(I also used my jig saw to make some cuts that weren't precise - you may not need to do this)

Directions:

1. Build the "ladder" by screwing and/or nailing all boards together to make the main structure (shown in red on my diagram. Note that you will screw two of the 1x4" boards together at the base. I'll show you why later. Tip: I used screws for the outside frame but found that nails worked best on the shelves. I used 2 on each side of each shelf.

2. Drill holes for dowels - Mine are about 1 1/2 " from the bottom of the shelf and about a 1/4" from the outside. I used a 7/16" drill bit because that was the size of the dowels I chose.

3. Insert dowels into holes. Use wood glue for extra support. I may or may have not used hot glue. ;)

4. Next, if you want, paint a design or a pop of color on the inside of the cabinet. No one will see this unless it's open so I wanted to do something fun. I mixed up some Oops! paints I had lying around and got this pretty blue/green color that matches some of my kitchen decor. You can totally just do it to match the outside and skip this step for now. As you can see, I chose a chevron design.

5. Use finishing nails to attach your back board. I placed nails on the outside perimeter and nails where the shelves were so it didn't "bow" out the back if cans got shoved back there.

6. Fill any holes or cracks with paintable caulk or wood filler.

7. Paint! I used my HVLP spray gun and air compressor to paint mine and it went super fast. You could hand paint it or even spray paint it if you want!

8. Attach casters according to the package directions. Because my screws that attached to the casters were longer than 1", I added that extra bottom 1x4" board to have something more substantial to drill into when attaching the casters.

9. Attach your handle or knob to the front. I found that a handle (drawer pull) worked well to pull the cabinet in and out.

10. Fill it with your canned goods, spices, or whatever and that's it!

This past week and a half or so my hubby has been very, very busy redoing the front yard. My hubby redid the sprinkler system and laid sod (I will be showing a before and after post of the yard later this week) We did not do a planter box, but after the sod went in, the husband and I knew it was missing something. We need more color. I have been on the look out for a great planter window box, but I have not had luck. So I have been inspired to do make my own check out a few DIY planters I have found.

Find your perfect paint colors

Confession: I kind of have trouble decorating sometimes. Don't we all? I mean I've been told I have "an eye" before but I don't really know if I do. I mean, I know my creative brain works extra hard and often takes over most of my brain power! haha! One problem I have however is the ability to come up with a color palette on my own. I usually browse pinterest or some of my other favorite blogs and pick some of my favorite rooms in their houses and use their color schemes and put my own spin on it.

I was looking at Vintage Revivals and came across a post of Mandi's about Sherwin-Williams CHIP IT! She did an awesome interview with a Sherwin-Williams paint expert and there are some fab tips! But, I kind of got obssessed with the idea of Chip it! It's a program where you upload a photo... ANY PHOTO and it gives you up to like 10 color matches! I'm not affiliated with them in any way but I sure love the idea and I think you will too!

Just for fun, I did some rooms in my home!

My living room

I've kind of wanted to expanded on color choice in this room and I love the colors it gave me! The Cajun Red and Bakelite Gold would be a fantastic addition for fall. Maybe switch out some pillows? Hmmm... :) I was thrilled that Mandi posted about the perfect grey and that's what color grey I got matched with! YAY! I just knew it was perfect *wink*! Check out my full living room post here.

Same thing goes for my dining space and kitchen! I'd love to incorporate some Roycroft Copper Red in the cooler months to warm up the space.

YUMMMM!!! I love the color swatches they gave me here in my master bedroom! Auric and Suitable Brown are bomb.com if you ask me! It kind of reminds me of this outfit Savannah put together for me for a family party while I was in Arizona last month. Thanks for dressing me up Sav!

The babe on the left is my aunt Ashlee. We're buds. :)

Then we have my craft room! This was one room that had no predetermined color palette. I just started going and the colors just all came together how I wanted. I LOVE this room and the color choices Chip It gave me are awesome!

Finally, my boys' airplane room. This is the perfect color palette for this room. It picked the exact colors I used in this room! I really think you can't go wrong with this color palette for little boys!

Isn't that awesome?? You've gotta try it! It's kind of addicting! Check out CHIP IT here!

DIY Rustic Airplane Valance {Pottery Barn Knock Off)

My little boys' bedroom is an airplane theme if you missed my boys' room reveal and a looooong time ago as I was gathering inspiration for this space, I saw this image via Pottery Barn and loved it at first sight, of course.

My boys' room is an airplane theme you could say and this was too perfect! Then, if I remember correctly, I found out it is around $300, clicked out of the website and forgot about it... Until I saw this image on pinterest.

The pin took me to The Cre8tive Outlet where I found this fantastic wall art tutorial! Holy what?! How did I not know Mod Podge could be used as a medium for image transfer?!?? WHAT!? I know. I was shocked too. PS. I actually thought this was the same one from the catalog until I realized it was a DIY!

Problem was, I didn't really need wall art at this point in the room decor but I really really really wanted to do this... really! Then, I also remember seeing this pin on pinterest for a barn wood valance.

Well, I didn't have any barn wood laying around but I knew what I wanted and I did have some 2x6s and I got to work! Why is it that the projects I put together on the spot using only what I have on hand, end up being some of my FAVORITE projects? Probably a good thing but ironic if nothing else. :)

First, I took my wood planks, imperfect and unsanded and painted them white. Any 'ole white will do.

Then, I printed off these images from The Cre8tive Outlet. I used a regular ink-jet printer.

Next, I put a good solid coat of Mod Podge on my ~~mostly dry~~ painted wood.

Then, lay your images face down (this will be a mirrored image of whatever you printed) and I used a credit card to adhere the paper to the wood. Note: my wood pieces were not nailed, glued, or stuck together in any way at this point, I just laid them right next to each other.

I found the credit card smoothing method worked well. Well, zoo card but whatev.

Next, you can start to peel off your printed pages. I was going for rustic look so I didn't mind if the image transfered perfectly. I would suggest using a very smooth piece of wood and lots of mod podge if you want a clear image transfer. Just sayin'! ;)

After I peeled it all (it took a little picking and scraping when some of the Mod Podge dried) I used a walnut stain and brushed it over to of the entire board to give it a worn look. I also took some acrylic craft paint and touched up a few areas that didn't transfer well.

Finally, I nailed another 2x6 to the wall and nailed the two planks right onto that and voila! DONE!

You could totally get brackets or some other means of hanging it up but I used everything I had on hand since I was too tired and it was way too late to go to the store! Start to finish, you're looking at about 1-2 hours for your project depending on size etc.

Cool huh!?

How to Optimize and Organize Your Kitchen Cabinets and Closets

If you don’t have enough kitchen cabinet space for your pots and pans, and you don’t have
enough closet space for your clothes, your home may be suffering from a serious case of limited
storage space syndrome. You may be wondering how you can deal with a scarcity of available
storage space in your home and how you can get the most out of your small cabinets and closets.
Fortunately, there are ways for you to optimize your cabinets and closets and keep everything
organized and stored in a proper place. Here are some suggestions that may help you combat
your home’s limited storage space syndrome:

Suggestions for Kitchen Cabinets –

• Consider investing in a hanging pot rack. Hanging pot racks are attractive and practical.
They allow you to store your pots and pans outside of your cabinets, leaving space for all
your other kitchen items.
• Add some shelves to the cabinet space under your sink. Oftentimes, the cabinet space
directly under a kitchen sink won’t come with any shelves. If you want to increase the
amount of usable storage space in this area, it’s a good idea to install some shelves. Once
you have shelves in this area, you’ll be able to store all of your cleaning products as well
as other kitchen items in a more effective, organized manner.
Put some shelves up on your kitchen walls. Shelving on kitchen walls can be very
visually pleasing and useful. Plus, the more items you can store outside of your cabinets,
the less crowded and disorganized your cabinets will be.

Suggestions for Closets –

Regularly clean out your closets, and we don’t mean metaphorically. Every few months,
go through all the things in your closets and try to get rid of at least a box full of clothes
and other items you have no intention of using or wearing anymore.
Put up some extra shelves, pegs, hooks, and racks in your closet, wherever there’s some
extra space. The two or three feet of unused wall space at the top of your closets or your
closet doors are great places to add some extra shelving, pegs, hooks, and racks. If you’re
closets are small, you should try to make the most of the space you have in them.
Store seasonal clothes and other infrequently used cloth items in compressed, space-
saving bags under your bed. You don’t have to rely on your closets as the primary place
to store your clothes and other, similar personal items. And the less you have to store
in your closets, the easier it will be to make the most of the space you have and stay
organized.
