Ivermectin, ‘wonder drug’ Against Covid-19?

2021-02-23T18:57:00.001+08:00

Ivermectin Drug for Covid-19

I first heard of ivermectin from my brother who learned of it after a check-up following a covid-19 scare in their house. Thankfully, they were all negative. The doctor they consulted at that time, however, mentioned a drug that might help protect against covid-19, Ivermectin.

I did not think much of ivermectin at first. I guess I just heard of one too many different tips on how to avoid covid-19. It was probably due to this lack of enthusiasm that my brother started sending me article after article about ivermectin; with different doctors and research studies touting its effectivity in prevention and treatment of covid-19.

There were a lot of information to go through and, since I am not a doctor, much of the data just went over my head. From the things I understood, this is what I found out:

Ivermectin, was originally developed by Japan in 1975 as an anti-parasitic & anti-viral drug. It was called a “wonder drug.” It was initially used for treatment of parasites in animals, but later also found uses in humans, such as for the treatment of head lice and scabies. It is listed as an essential anti-parasitic drug by the World Health Organization (WHO) and it is also an approved prescription drug by the US Federal Drug Administration (FDA). The drug has been proven safe, with a few experiencing side effects like rashes, dizziness, vomiting and stomach pains. Millions of people have used Ivermectin for the past 30 years with over 3 billion doses distributed globally.

Then came 2020 and covid-19. With the infection rates rising and hospitalizations climbing, many doctors tried different approved drugs for treatment. Some of those treatments included ivermectin. A study in Australia had shown that ivermectin is effective against covid-19 “in vitro”, i.e. tests outside a living cell.

Studies in actual human use though is still ongoing. In Peru, it has been reported that ivermectin accounted for an 85% drop in mortality but there have been questions in the methodology used. This has been the common response by experts to claims of its effectivity and the reason why you will find warnings against its use for covid-19 patients. While the numbers look promising for using ivermectin as an early treatment of covid-19, the research methodology and sample size of each research has put some doubt on its efficacy.

Is ivermectin a “wonder drug” against covid-19? The answer to that is not yet final but is not far off either. The WHO is currently in process of compiling all the data in these various studies. A report of their findings is expected around March 2021.

HOW TO APPLY LTO STUDENT DRIVER'S PERMIT ONLINE (LATEST GUIDE 2021)

2021-02-17T18:52:00.004+08:00

LTO has launched an online portal to make most transactions easier. All motorists in the Philippines can now apply for all kinds of LTO licenses and renewal through the Land Transportation Management System or LTMS.

With this new online portal, drivers and vehicle owners can now easily book an appointment and apply for the following transactions easily:

Student Permit (New, Revision, Duplicate etc.)
Driver’s License (Pro and Non-Pro)
Conductor’s License
Renewal of Driver's License
Car Registration

With this new system in place, we can now reduce the long waiting time at LTO offices.

IMPORTANT!
The LTO Student Permit Online Application is only limited to getting an online appointment or schedule. This guarantees that you’ll be accommodated when you go to any LTO office of your choice. Your transaction will also be processed quickly since there will be special lanes for those who have applied on the LTMS portal. You still have to personally go to LTO office to submit other requirements and process your application.

Here are the step-by-step guide on how to get a Student Driver's License or Student Permit:

1. First, you need to enroll in Theoretical Driving Course (TDC)

This is a mandatory requirement.
TDC is a 15-hour theoretical driving lessons that you can take at any LTO Drivers Education Center or any nearest LTO-accredited driving school (Smart Dribing, A1 etc.).
This course does not involve actual driving, instead, it focuses on theoretical aspects of driving like traffic signs, traffic laws, violation, driving etiquette etc.
Upon completing this course, you will be given a certificate which you can use to apply for a Student Permit.
The TDC Certificate is valid for 2 years.
As of January 8, 2021, LTO has suspended online TDCs indefinitely, which means you have to enroll in a face-to-face class.

I would recommend for you to apply in an LTO Drivers Education Center accessible to you so you can get this for free. If you are located in Metro Manila, you can try to enroll in TDC for free here LTO NCR EAST.

You need to get appointment online to secure a slot
New appointments/slots are posted every LAST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH at 7AM
Schedule of TDC class is at 12NN-5PM from Tuesday to Thursday
They only accept 40 applicants per day, 20 each in the morning and afternoon sessions
Note that the dates get fully-booked easily!

2. Next is you need to prepare legal documents like:

Birth certificate (with marriage contract for married women) issued by PSA, original and photocopy
Parent’s or Guardian’s consent and valid government-issued ID (for minors)
Any issued ID with photo and signature
Tax identification number (TIN) ID (if employed)

3. Get a Medical Certificate issued by any LTO Accredited clinic

You can go to any nearby LTO office to get this
Select the clinic which can issue you 2 copies (1 for the Student Permit Application and another 1 for the Driver's License Application)
The Medical Certificate is only valid for 2 months, meaning, within that 2 month period, you should be able to apply for a Driver's License to save Php 500.
Your medical certificate will be electronically transmitted to LTO by the accredited medical clinic
Cost for medical is Php 500

Once the above items are complete, you can now either:

a.) Visit LTO office to apply personally

b.) Or set online appointment first with LTO via the online portal before going to LTO personally

IMPORTANT!
The LTO Student Permit Online Application is only limited to getting an online appointment or schedule. This guarantees that you’ll be accommodated when you go to any LTO office of your choice. Your transaction will also be processed quickly since there will be special lanes for those who have applied on the LTMS portal. Again, you still have to personally go to LTO near you to submit other requirement and process your application.

Here's How To File Your Student Permit Application Online

1.Visit LTMS to select the appointment schedule you prefer and the LTO office where you want to process the application.

Make sure you have already obtained your Medical Certificate before proceeding with these steps:.

Login to this LTMS website
Register and Create an Account
Verify the account thru your registered email
Click "Enroll as an Individual"
Login and go to LICENSING icon, click Student Permit (make sure to check Remember username)
Provide all requested details accurately
Add and verify your Medical Certificate Number. This application will require you to input your Medical Certificate number otherwise it won’t push through.
Select your preffered schedule and LTO Licensing Center

2. Go to your preferred LTO Licensing Center on your selected schedule to apply personally

Make sure to bring all your requirements
Bring enough cash

3. Go to the evaluator counter to submit your requirements

4. If your documents are complete, you will be called to get your photo and signature

5. Go to the cashier and pay the application fees

6. Proceed to the releasing counter and claim your student driver’s permit

The total cost of a student permit application is PHP 317.63:

Student Permit Fee: PHP 150
Application Fee: PHP 100
Computer Fee: PHP 67.63

LTO Practical Driving Exam

YOUR NEXT STEPS:

LTO Student Permit or Student Driver's Permit is valid only for 1 year. This gives you enough time to practice your driving skills for the actual driving test and learn the road signs and traffic rules for the theoretical exam.
If you fail to upgrade to a Pro or Non-pro License within the 1 year validity period, you have apply and pay for another Student Permit again.
1 month after the date of student permit issuance, you can start the application process for a Non-Professional Driver’s License. If you do this, it will save you Php 500 for the Medical Certificate.
To apply for a Professional Driver’s License, it's now required to have a Non-Pro License first (and not with a Student Permit only).

How to Verify Your YouTube Channel To Edit Your Custom Thumbnails 2021

2021-02-11T19:29:00.013+08:00

My new youtube channel Wok With Len does not have access to some youtube features like adding a custom thumbnail, video streaming, and uploading of 15min videos yet. I've been trying to fix it but haven't found the latest instructions on how to do it. Are you having the same issues? Nothing to worry here, all you have to do is to verify your YouTube account. Google will send you a verification code to a phone number either through a text message or voicemail.

Here are updated steps (as of February 2021) on how you can verify your YouTube account:

Steps:

1. Log in to your YouTube account using a computer, click your profile logo in the top right-hand corner then click Settings.

2. From here, click "Channel status and features" link

3. On the pop up screen, it will show you all of the YouTube features that are available and whether or not you have access to them. Under "Feature eligibility" tab select click the drop-down button on "Features that require phone verification"

4. Select "Text me the verification code" and enter your mobile phone number

5. Check your mobile phone for the code and enter the 6 digit verification code on the screen then submit

Congrats! Your youtube account is now verified! You can now edit a custom thumbnail, try video streaming, and upload 15min long videos on your channel.

I wish you well in your YouTube journey!

2021 New Year New Beginnings

2021-02-02T20:02:00.008+08:00

Back from where it all started! Some major changes happened in the past months and years, I'm just grateful for everything, good and not quite good.

Here's some major updates from me, in case you wanna know what's been happening in my life.

1. I am so glad this blog is still up. My WordPress self-hosted blog (mynosebleed.com) has now vanished from the blogosphere. I think it started when the pandemic happened, all of a sudden, I cannot access the site and can't contact the hosting company anymore. Sent them emails but did not receive any response, so I decided not to renew the domain and just let my 11yr old blog go and rest forever. Surprisingly, I am okay with it. Good thing I have saved the XML file so when everything is ready, hopefully, I can reupload it all.

2. I just opened a new vlog, Wok With Len, hahaha. Inspired by my childhood favorite tv show, Wok With Yan hahahha ang corny. I know I should have done this ages ago and started maybe earning moolahs from it but just couldn't find the courage and time and skills to do it. I have been uploading vids on youtube since 2007 just for record-keeping and not really for entertainment, ads or otherwise. I have over 1000 uploads! Anyway, here's my first upload, do check it and subs, thanks!

3. Independent and loving everything about it. But sometimes I miss home. I wish I am back home in the barrio with my parents, my siblings (and their partners) and my pamangkins.

4. Just like everyone else, I am now studying to be a Plantita major in Terrace Gardening.

5. Lost 6pound since last year hahaha please I want to celebrate this tiny victory! I've been trying to eat less rice and practicing intermittent fasting since July last year. Hopefully I can go full blast on keto diet too, I just need to have an air fryer first and some glass containers for my meal prep.

6. Committed to my Bullet Journal or Bujo. Thanks Ruthie and Mimi. Committed to declutter my closet.

7. Happy with Vast. This year, the ultimate goal is to really work smart and work hard and make my dreams a reality. Live my life with G R I T.

8. Moved back to my dear beloved hometown, Valenzuela City!

9. You need money to make money. Launching my new business venture soon. Can't wait!

10. Lastly, happy and chill love story.

I have very high hopes for 2021 despite the pandemic going on.

See you on my next blog! Hopefully it wont take years before the next blog update hahaha. Ciao for now!

New Theme

2012-07-19T17:11:00.000+08:00

Perfecctt! Loving my new minimalist theme! I just need to figure out how to remove that search box just below the banner. Hopefully, I can blog more often now.

Hello there Blogspot, long time no see!

2012-07-05T09:25:00.000+08:00

I skipped blogging in this portal for more than a year! I kinda missed you a little, blogspot. Hopefully, I can blog more often here now.

Nail-Less Toe

2011-03-20T08:05:00.001+08:00

I slipped on the floor last week as I walk out of the bathroom. Half of my toe nail was compromised hahaha. It fell off and was only attached down one side of it. Story HERE.

It's becoming quite a nuisance so last night, I pulled it off completely. It didn't hurt that much. My big toe is now nail-less and it look gross, it's fine because I feel better now. Thank you! I think I can now wear rubber shoes again.

From Dubai With Love

2011-03-07T09:12:00.001+08:00

Spent a lovely afternoon with Mimi, Ruthie and Janice last January 30 at Trinoma. Non stop kwentuhan and tawanan. Miss you guys! Hope we can do this more often.

Feels like college once more

You should hear Janice sing, such a sog bird!

Mimi made sure she brought along her gadgets hahaha

One of the best calamares in town! I esp. love their salsa and white sauce.

You guys didn't age at all!

Inside the Sumosan.

My only reason for wanting to go to Japan is to see real cherry blossoms haha.

This was my first time at Sumosan, nice interior and lighting and the atmosphere is very relaxing - bec there's not too many people around.

OMG. Oysters! Their menus are quite delicious and affordable. And guess what, they provide refreshing water flavored with cucumber. I like!

Sashimi. I can never eat this. NEVER.

Reunited with Janice for many many years! Thanks Janice for the treat! Thank you too for the pasalubong.

Lyrics: Price Tag by Jessie J.

2011-03-03T10:37:00.001+08:00

Seems like everybody's got a price,
I wonder how they sleep at night.
When the sale comes first,
And the truth comes second,
Just stop, for a minute and
Smile

Why is everybody so serious!
Acting so damn mysterious
You got your shades on your eyes
And your heels so high
That you can't even have a good time.

[Pre-chorus]
Everybody look to their left (yeah)
Everybody look to their right (ha)
Can you feel that (yeah)
We're paying with love tonight

[Chorus]

It's not about the money, money, money
We don't need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance,
Forget about the Price Tag

Ain't about the (uh) Cha-Ching Cha-Ching.
Aint about the (yeah) Ba-Bling Ba-Bling
Wanna make the world dance,
Forget about the Price Tag.

[Jessie J - Verse 2]
Okay!
We need to take it back in time,
When music made us all UNITE!
And it wasn't low blows and video hoes,
Am I the only one gettin'... tired?

Why is everybody so obsessed?
Money can't buy us happiness
Can we all slow down and enjoy right now
Guarantee we'll be feeling Alright.

[Pre-chorus]
Everybody look to their left (yeah)
Everybody look to their right (ha)
Can you feel that (yeah)
We're paying with love tonight

[Chorus]

It's not about the money, money, money
We don't need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance,

*********

I really like the beats of this song. First heard it from Maria Aragon (the youtube sensation also known as Baby Gaga). Been listening to this for days now. I love the song and its message. Ironically, at this point in my life, all I want is money, money, money. All I need is your money, money, money!

Lord, help me to find different ways on how to earn more money.

I'm A New Soul
by Yael Naim

I'm a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit 'bout how to give and take
But since I came here, felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

La, la, la, la (21x)
La, la, la, la (21x)

See I'm a young soul in this very strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit 'bout what is true and fake
But why all this hate? try to communicate
Finding trust and love is not always easy to make

La, la, la, la (21x)
La, la, la, la (21x)

This is a happy end
Cause you don't understand
Everything you have done
Why's everything so wrong

This is a happy end
Come and give me your hand
I'll take you far away

I'm a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit 'bout how to give and take
But since I came here, felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

New soul... (la, la, la, la,...)
In this very strange world...
Every possible mistake
Possible mistake
Every possible mistake
Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes...

How To Prevent Cancer

2008-11-13T07:23:00.001+08:00

When my Aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago, all of us in the family got scared, alarmed and worried. I didn't realize the importance of taking care of one's self, eating healthy and going to the hospital for physical check up until we lost her last March this year. It was tragic, sudden and one of the saddest moments of my life. You see, my mom and her sisters are very very close. I grew up seeing them together most of the time, telling jokes, eating snacks and playing card games. I've seen them fight several times, but because there's so much love, you'll see them playing "tong-its" again the next day.

Until this day, I still can't believe my Aunt T is gone. Most of us don't realize that cancer is preventable in many cases. You know, cancer is genetic. If you have a family history of cancer, such as breast cancer, taking extra precautions is vital. It does not actually mean you will develop a cancer too but most likely, you'll have a greater chance of developing it. Truth is, each one of us is a candidate of getting a cancer, whether we like it or not. So make sure you take extra extra care. Here are some simple tips to reduce your risk of developing many types of cancer, I hope this somehow enlightens you.

1. Avoid smoking, whether it be actual smoking or secondhand smoke. Smoking can increase your risk of getting many other cancers.

2. Avoid too much sun exposure. Use SPF lotion when going out between 10:00AM to 2:00PM.

3. Eat fruits and veggies that are rich in antioxidants to repair damaged cells.

4. Watch the meats you eat. Diet high in animal fat is not healthy. Avoid smoked foods, salted fish and meat, and pickled vegetables.

5. Limit your alcohol intake. It increases your risk factor for cancer.

6. Exercise!

7. Know your personal and family history of cancer.

8. Practice safe sex. Unsafe sex can result in the infection of the HPV virus, a known cause for cervical cancer and a risk factor for many other cancers.

9. Regular / Annual chek up. Be sure to keep up on screening tests like the Papsmear, mammograms, etc.

People say that I'm a fool
Well I don't know
At least I found out
What it takes to be strong
I was dreaming all day long
A drifting cloud
With eyes wide open
I would choose not to see

Chorus
Now I don't want
To see you any more
Don't want to be the one
To play your game
Not even if you smile
Your sweetest smile
Not even if you beg me
Darling please.

Say good morning to the world
I hope you like it
Take good care of all those
Things that we had
I've been looking for a way
For too long now
Seems like everything
Must come to an end.

Repeat Chorus

Time after time
Nothing that I can do
Knowing your ways and loving your ways
But not getting through at all
Day after day
Leaving the past behind
Coming to terms with stitches and burns learning to fly again

The Importance of Eating Breakfast

2008-11-09T17:42:00.005+08:00

This is my hearty (and cheap) breakfast earlier today. Pan de Sal, fried egg and lucky me pancit canton. Enough to keep me going for a whole day.

Do you skip breakfast too?

I do. Breakfast may be the meal that is most often neglected or skipped, but it is actually the most beneficial. It aids in weight management and provide enough energy to fuel your body. It is important that you break the fast of not eating 12 hours straight, otherwise, it'll be hard for you to concentrate, focus and function throughout the day. I'm not an oatmemal person, hate it. Might try cereals and milk for breakfast tomorrow. Wish me luck!

MAMMA MIA: The Winner Takes It All

2008-11-07T05:21:00.000+08:00

The Winner Takes It All
Artist: Meryl Streep
Mamma Mia OST

DONNA:
I don't wanna talk
About things we've gone through
Though it's hurting me
Now it's history
I've played all my cards
And that's what you've done too
Nothing more to say
No more ace to play

The winner takes it all
The loser standing small
Beside the victory
That's her destiny

I was in your arms
Thinking I belonged there
I figured it made sense
Building me a fence
Building me a home
Thinking I'd be strong there
But I was a fool
Playing by the rules

The gods may throw a dice
Their minds as cold as ice
And someone way down here
Loses someone dear

The winner takes it all
The loser has to fall
It's simple and it's plain
Why should I complain?

But tell me does she kiss
Like I used to kiss you?
Does it feel the same
When she calls your name?
Somewhere deep inside
You must know I miss you
But what can I say?
Rules must be obeyed

The judges will decide
The likes of me abide
Spectators of the show
Always staying low
The game is on again
A lover or a friend
A big thing or a small
The winner takes it all

I don't wanna talk
'Cause it makes me feel sad
And I understand
You've come to shake my hand
I apologize
If it makes you feel bad
Seeing me so tense
No self-confidence
But you see

The winner takes it all
The winner takes it all

The game is on agein
A lover or a friend
A big thing or a small
The winner takes it all
The winner takes it all

MAMMA MIA

Meryl Streep plays Donna, an ex-hippie and single mom raising her daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) on a Greek island. When Sophie was about to get married, she invited her mom's ex-lovers (Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard) - one of them could be her father.

Streep is amazing. Superb acting. She obviously had so much fun on this movie. I like the part when she was reunited with her 2 best friends. They're fun to watch. My friends and I share that kind of friendship. And that "Dancing Queen," scene was brilliant. Makes you wanna dance. Another favorite scene was her heartwarming solo "The Winner Takes It All". Very natural acting, one of Streep's greatest performance, I think.

I love the movie. Added it to my favorites already. I missed watching it on the big screen, sayang!

My father owns an ABBA cassette tape and I grew up listening to it. Love love love it. Timeless songs. I know almost all their songs by heart.

Great music, great cast, nice location and beautiful cinematography - all these makes MAMMA MIA movie worth seeing.

Enjoy!

The World Has Spoken: Barrack Obama, 44th President of the United States

2008-11-06T08:22:00.000+08:00

The world watched as history unfold. Democrat Barack Obama wins the election! He's now elected as the 44th president of the United States, opening a new chapter in the world history as the first African-American politician to be elected as the President of the world's most powerful country.

My congratulations to Obama!!! I support him all the way. I like the guy. Though he has strong views about anti-outsourcing of US jobs overseas, a cause of concern for all call center cuties like moi, I think he'll do good.

"....Unlike John McCain, I will stop giving tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas, and I will start giving them to companies that create good jobs right here in America," he has said.

Ohh Eeemm Geee!!! My career is now at risk LOL. I better be looking for a job elsewhere, in the US perhaps. With all my heart, I strongly believe that he will have an administration that will defend the oppressed, will fight for the defenseless, who'll achieve a just and fair system with good governance, and will stop doing things whose wisdom we question. I hope, with Obama's reign, the war ends soon.

"Change has come to America," the President-elect promised. "A new dawn of American leadership is at hand."
