Magna Carta is another deep and engaging RPG from that famed publisher of obscure RPG's - Atlus. This one features a real-time combat system where you must perform specific button presses in order to carry out a successful attack. This element might prove frustrating for many players (I prefer a simple turn-based system myself). On the plus side there are no random encounters so combat can be avoided if desired. The story is deep and engaging and if you can stomach the combat system then this will be an excellent game to pick up. Like most Atlus titles it is hard to find and may never get cheap, but it is still out there and can be found with little difficulty for the time being, anyway.

In the game, you play as a knight named Sieg Warheit, who is tasked with stopping a man named Victor Delacroix from collecting powerful magical artifacts. The two men and these artifacts are linked by past events; Sieg killed Delacroix's lover, and now Delacroix is hoping to use these magical artifacts to bring his beloved back to life, even if it means causing wanton destruction along the way. The game uses cutscenes between missions to advance the plot, but the silly dialogue and convoluted scene direction make following the story more difficult than it needs to be. The cutscenes include decent but unremarkable voice acting, much like the music and other sound in the game.

Fable takes place in the fictional world of Albion. Players assume the role of an orphaned boy who realizes his dream of becoming a hero. The choices players make in the game affect the perception and reaction to their Hero by the characters of Albion, and change the Hero’s appearance to mirror what good or evil deeds the Hero has performed. In addition to undertaking quests to learn what happened to the Hero’s family, players can engage in optional quests and pursuits such as trading, romance, and theft.
Originally developed under the name Project Ego, Fable’s development utilized more than seventy people. The game’s music was composed by Russell Shaw, with the opening title theme written by Oscar-nominated composer Danny Elfman. The game’s release was widely anticipated, due in part to Lionhead creator Peter Molyneux’s enthusiastic hype of the game.
