Alrighty then! I got some pictures of the family gathering from my cousin Udin. I was thrilled that I wasn't elected as an AJK for this year's gathering. Why? It involved a lot of standing...in heels! And while we were standing, the food just kept coming. So yes, they would distribute the food evenly to the AJK table and it was cold. Kesian kan? Anywho. Guess why I wasn't elected? I'm the head of the new generations and I'll be taking over next year's gathering. They decided to let me rest this year so that I can take the job full-on next year. Anywho. Enjoy the pictures. :)

I made it using the kain that Aiman's mum gave me last year. It's kaftan-ish, with cotton inner and chiffon outer, and it's definitely going into next year's raya collection. I still need a name for my boutique, though. Will think about that soon and will keep playing with names. Wish me luck :)

Played fireworks with my cousins from both sides of the family last night.

It was the Miri-an's last night in Kuching.

We played fireworks and other explosives at Sulap Aing with Yasmin, Faris, Azri, Aishah, small Yasmin, Syakir, Razin and Udin.

Dont get startled with the title. Haha. It's Aiman's last night in Kuching before he starts working again. Yes, he's only here for two days. Sad, isnt it? But at least he's home. We went out for berjarah after stopping by his place. We visited his house first, then to Zayy's and then Meezy's before he had to send me back to nenek's. I think we spent two hours today, but i didnt mind, as long as i got to see him before he leaves for...probably two months. But it's fine..its for his future. So proud that he's already got a career. :)

In the car before he dropped me off, i gave him a congratulatory card for getting the job. I'm so proud of him i wish i could boast to anyone who asks me about him. I also gave him an angpow. Haha. Just for his pocket money to last him before he gets posted offshore, as he's still office bound at the moment. We hugged, and before i left the car, i took his hand and kissed it (salam - tradition for greeting/bidding farewell). All i could do was smile. I didnt feel like crying as he left, instead i felt so happy for him. We watched each other grow up from all these years, and now he's a careerman. Only god knows how peaceful i felt :')

A night at Bella Italia

I think i've been craving pizza and italian foods for about 2 weeks already. Finally, the night before he leaves for Miri, we went out for dinner after sungkey at Bella Italia! One of the best pizza parlors in Kuching!

Tonight, it was my treat. It was a congratulatory dinner for him for getting the job at Carigali in Miri. I'm soooo proud of him! He's already working, and he hasnt even graduated(convocation ceremony).

Anywho, he told me to surprise him by letting me order. It was his first time there and he trusts my taste on food. (Y)

So, i ordered us mushroom soup and bruschetta for starters. And the on to the pizza, a quatro something. A pizza with 4 different toppings. Then the linguine alfredo along with the beef lasagna. Oh yummmm.

Nur Lyanna Wan Yusof!

Those were the words that was announced at the Green Heights Mall cake decorating competition yesterday!

I can't believe it! The last time my name was announced loudly for a "solo" act was in Form 5. Never have i imagined that i would be joining more competitions, receiving more awards and certificates, and actually winning them!

As Anna's students, it was mandatory for us to join. Competing against my classmates was quite a challenge since i havent been to class for about two months due to super huge everyday cupcakes and cakes orders. I wouldnt know their skill or how far along have they studied the art of decorating. So, i took the risk and decided i would use fondant. Crazy, right? My last fondant artwork was... Let's just say that i knew how to hide the creases. Hehe. What was i thinking? No idea. But i just have this desire to win. It's always been in my nature since i was young. Yes, i'm super competitive. (i just dont show it)

Anywho. Each sculpture took me about an hour or less to complete, with Big Bird being the hardest. I asked permission from Anna if it was alright to bring my sculptures from home. She said yes. I mean, after all, it is a cake decorating competition. Anyone could bring in decorating items. ;)

So we were given 2 hours to decorate our cake, and this is what i came up with :)

Sunkey At Ojot's

So, last Wednesday we all (me, Aiman, Aimi, Ojot, Meera, Ben, Zayy, Azi, Yaya) had a potluck sungkey and the venue was at Ojot's Santubong home at Santubong Suites. Beautiful place! So, yes, you'll be seeing loads of pics shortly ;)

I picked up Aiman at his house around 5:30pm and he drove us to Santubong. We camwhored for the first bit, using my new ipad. Took us about half an hour to reach Santubong Suites. My my my the place is absolutely breathtaking! Makes you appreciate Borneo soso much. Anywho, food?

Anyway after we stuffed ourselves, we watched LOL. A movie starring Miley Cyrus. It was okay...because most of the time i was focused on Demi Moore, more. Haha.

We left the suite around 11+ i guess. Sent him home, went back and started work! Yes, this was the same night Aiman became my little elf.

And as for the little big bird, i'm super proud of what i did! There werent tutorials on how to make the feathers except a feather plunger, but since i dont have one, i'll just use a heart plunger and add some veiny details to it :D

Well, it's mandatory for Anna's students to join. But i dont mind. I actually want to join. I havent been competitive in this kind of thing for oh soooo long now. Anywho, i didnt invite anyone. Yes, thats him. My little elf on an early Thursday morning. We started work around 1:30AM up until 4:30AM(for Sahur). We ate whatever was served at my house then. Rice, of course. And a few dishes. Anywho, why was he helping me in the morning? Why can't I do this myself? Aha. I am so proud to share that a major international company from Damansara has made a contract with me on the seasonal gift packs. The company ordered 75 boxes of gift pack #5, which included 3 small boxes. Basically we had to package 222 small boxes that morning with chocolates! I just sent these babies off today to poslaju 5 huge boxes off to KL, and then to Damansara first thing Monday morning! I hope the payment comes in quick, though. I'd like a HAPPY raya filled with $$$$! What? I'm 21 already. My expectations for raya packets? Zero! (but maybe some from my paternal grandmother, maternal grandparents and a few uncles) ;)

In some cases, anyway. It actually has auto focus! Hurray for apple! I must admit, though. My blackberry takes better pictures. Less gritty.

Finally! I havent gotten myself a gadget this year and then, tadaaaa! Sik alang2 :3

Anywho, here's my casing,

I got the Switcheasy CARA case for the new ipad at RM189. It comes with a screen protector and some jack protectors, so you wont get dust in it.

What i love about this case is that it's super tough. Try hitting it, and you'll end up with a broken wrist. Or bruised knuckles.

Another feature i love about this case is its patterns. It resembles a turtle, dont you think so? Yes, i have this fascination for turtle. Such cute creatures!

The rubber material on this case is excellent as well. Easy for people who are on the go. I can easily let it rest in the palm of my hand while my other hand controls the steering wheel. Yes, i multitask a lot while driving. But i'm still a cautious driver. Really. :P

It also supports the auto lock, meaning when you shut it, it automatically locks.

Howeverrrr, this type of material requires specific care. If you, expose it to different weather conditions, such as hot one moment and super cold the next, i would guarantee that the rubber will expand. Aka "kembang". Pandai2 la jaga oh! But in the long run, it's the best cover ever! Been searching for covers in shops and online, none of the, caught my eye.

Credits to Azry, though. I found out about this case thanks to him. When he got his ipad, he got the black version of the CARA case. I immediately told him then (when the ipad 2 first launched) that i would get this cover for myself one day, whee :D

It was ordered by a good friend of mine, Fion. We went to the same primary school together and we used to look alike when we were younger. Anywho, she requested a custom made cake for the brother's birthday. Fion LOVES my Vanilla Caramel cake, but since this is lil bro's birthday, lil bro's favourite treat at the moment is the meringue cookies you see up there! So, a combination of both... TADA!!!

Then after uploading the picture, another friend of mine, Mira, wanted it as well! Yes, her favourites are a combination of both elements, too!

So this is our ticker. :)

We met on the 4th of October 2007 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
We were both there for a competition, representing Kuching.
I was representing SMK Batu Lintang while he was representing STAR.
We were on the same flight to KK and we didn't notice each other until we landed.
He was shy, yes I remember.
But I just had to know his name. Or who he was. One way or another.
I've never told him that but I've really fancied him from the first time I saw him.
He wasn't the regular pretty boys girls fall for.
In fact, he was skinny and tanned. Not really what girls aimed for.
But somehow, I was drawn to him.
We've only made our official anniversary on January 5th 2011.
That's the year I met his parents, his siblings, his relatives and distant cousins.
Scary, right?
Anywho, just wanted to share that wee bit of info.
Sorry, I /might/ have sound dramatic. :P
But my fingers automatically type out what I feel.

1-2-3 for Kuching schools in F1 Tech Challenge

Kota Kinabalu: A group of teenagers from SMK Batu Lintang, Kuching, won the Formula One Technology Challenge - East Malaysia Regional Finals at Kompleks Tabung Haji on Thursday.

Emmanuel Kho Yeh Cheng, Nur Lyanna Wan Yusof, Nur Saftuyah Abdul Rahman and Muhd Zihri Dawok came up with a Co2-powered F1 model car aptly named Light Speed.

Their victory over 44 teams from Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan will see them competing against the nation's best at the national finals in Kuala Lumpur at the end of this year.

In second place was Auto Freaks, also of SMK Batu Lintang, comprising Paul Prashanth Davis, Derrick Mohka Yew, Melvin Yeo Chin Yaw and Rick Daeg Langet.

Black Horse comprising Nick Mattaari, Abdullah Mohammad, Mohd Hafiz Shamsol and Mohammad Izzizi Abeng of SMK Matang Jaya, Kuching, won third place.

Director of F1 InSchools Sdn Bhd, Abu Zarim Abu Bakar, said the students designed and manufactured the model cars themselves.

The F1 Technology Challenge programme is organised by the Ministry of Education and F1 InSchools Sdn Bhd with the objective to close the technology divide between schools in the urban and rural areas.

Abu said the event is fully supported and endorsed by the international F1 Group and F1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone.

"It is an exciting and educational programme for students around the world that nurtures students' interest and talent in science, technology and engineering," he said.

He said the students' plan, design, manufacture, test and race F1 model cars, although on a smaller scale.

Part of the programme, he said is to expose children between 15 and 17 to state-of-the-art software programmes such as CAD (computer aided design), CAM (computer aided manufacturing), CNC (computer numerical control) and Virtual Reality Systems.

According to him, it is so that they get a feel of the real thing of how F1 designers work.

"The programme also encourages team work, creativity and development of soft skills because students have to start from scratch to research, design, analyse, make, test and race the F1 model cars.

"Students also have to draw up a business plan to raise sponsorship to finance the car and then present their business plan to a panel of judges," he said.

The F1 Technology Challenge was introduced in Malaysia in 2005 with only 14 teams participating. The subsequent year, the number increased to 40 teams.

This year, there were a total of 420 teams participating from schools in small towns to schools in the big cities. Abu Zarim said the best team in Malaysia will represent the country in the 4th World Championships that would be held in Malaysia in March next year.

The judges will evaluate the best F1 model car based on best engineering design and speed.

For the record, last year, Malaysia's team, Aerobreaker from SMK Taman Melawati won the Fastest Car Award that set new world record of 1.083 seconds on a 20-metre track.

In March 2007 at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, an all-girl team from Bukit Nanas called Mercurial Ace won Malaysia's first podium placing.

On top of that, they also won the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award, an award that was especially created for them due to the kindness they had showed by sharing their custom made tyres with the Irish team who had lost their luggage.

"This also demonstrates the values of the programme in which the students not only learn about technical and scientific knowledge but also various soft skills and wholesome values, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education's mission to generate holistic and quality human resources for the future," said Abu Zarim.
