THE UPRISING

UPRISING DESIGN CONTEST WINNER

Congratulations to Kevin C. for winning this years Uprising Design Contest. You guys did a great job, and turned in a bunch of awesome designs. We are going to turn this in to an annual competition. Because of that, I wanted to announce what the prize would be besides us using your design for the t-shirt. Similar to The Masters Green Jacket, we will have the Uprising Green Jacket. It will basically be you getting to choose to have your design printed another item of clothing that only you will own (ie. long sleeve T, v-neck, hoodie, etc.). It will literally be the only one of it's kind in the world. We will be presenting this to Kevin at the Uprising. As for the design, you will just have to wait until the Uprising to see it!

In the meantime, this is what you missed if you didn't make it to the Catalyst Christmas Party this past Wednesday:

HIGH SCHOOL BONFIRE

The weather is finally cooling off, the leaves are falling, and the sky is turning grey. In my mind, this means only one thing: IT IS TIME TO MAKE A FIRE! We are going to be having a bonfire at the greenway on November 18 from 6-10pm. Meet at the church by 6 and we will shuttle you over to the greenway. We will eat some chili, make some s'mores, drink some hot chocolate, and enjoy a night of general merriment. If you fancy playing the guitar, feel free to bring it and strum a few chords for our listening pleasure. We will be back in the church parking lot by 10pm. You can sign up at 180 or at the student ministry office.

THE UPRISING DESIGN CONTEST

Have you ever wanted to design your own t-shirt? Well how about designing a t-shirt for you and 200 other people instead! We are having a contest in the month of November to see who will design the next shirt for THE UPRISING coming up in January. Here are the details:

designs must be submitted before December 1
the design must contain the words "the uprising", but is not limited to these words
you may submit up to 3 designs
you can use up to 3 colors (the tshirt color will be dependent on the design, so feel free to make a recommendation!)
It is our preference that the designs are in an electronic format if possible. But if all you have is a good idea and a napkin, then let it be so
submit designs to Matthew Cavin
if you are chosen as a winner, we will make your design in to this years THE UPRISING shirt

So if you or someone you know likes drawing and designing, then get started today!

*there is a favorable chance that we will have to edit your design as we go through the proofing process with the t-shirt company. Just a heads up.

Game Night is THIS FRIDAY night, October 21 from 6-8:30pm. It's free and gonna be totally fun. Come eat dinner with us starting at 6 and then just chill out and play games with everyone. There will be an awesome prize to anyone who can beat me in Mario Kart! (jk I'm terrible. I got beat by a 4th grader last time at Game Night). If it's possible, even bring your whole family! We would love it if everyone can come, but if not, just bring yourself!

MIDDLE SCHOOL RETREAT

Hey Guys!

Just wanted to remind those of you heading out to Middle School Retreat that we will be packing up and leaving the church parking lot by 5pm Friday night, October 7. Don't forget to pack things like clothes, your bible, a flashlight, $25, camping chairs, and other camping friendly items. The weather is going to be awesome so get ready to have fun! COSTA RICA DAY 4

This morning we got our work pants on and headed out for a morning of ole fashioned manual labor.

After a good lunch and a little ice cream treat, we headed out for another orphanage. The locals are still teaching us a thing or two about soccer. Even the ladies.

The kids hear were so precious.

Jeff couldn't help but get in on the action when we played Samurai.

We had a great day today. God has been so good to give us the opportunity to serve these lovely people. We have another full day tomorrow. Keep praying!

WAKE UP WAKE UP SLEEPYHEADS

Pray for us today. Things are going great, but it's midweek, we have had some busy days, and I'm afraid we might be seeing more of this today.

COSTA RICA DAY 3

Last night, things got a little out of hand, but we had a lot of fun.

Today, we had the privilege of hanging out with a bunch of these little guys at an orphanage.

We played games, made crafts, taught some Bible stories, and shared the gospel with them.

We also played some Gringos vs. Ticos soccer. We hung in their pretty tight, but I'm pretty sure they prevailed in the end. Check out the video below.

There was a rag-tag group of manly men (and one very lovely lady) who helped paint at one of the houses at at the orphanage.

Buck is displaying his painting stance for the camera. Quite a unique style.

At the end of the day we stopped off at a local historic land mark. Not pictured here are all of the couples on the other side of this wall who come here to kiss each other. We couldn't quite figure it out, but it didn't seem to bother the locals.

We also met up with some of the local musicians for a little sing along. Check out the video below.

All in all, we had a great day. Keep praying for us. The Truth is being proclaimed here in Costa Rica. God is good for giving us this opportunity.

COSTA RICA DAY 2

We arrived safely in Costa Rica yesterday and are having a blast so far. This morning we got up and folded and stamped 4000 gospel tracts in espanol.

Then we hopped on a bus, headed to downtown San Jose and passed all of them out. It was really cool to see people reading them.

When we were done, we had a little time to play with the pigeons. They were quiet friendly...

...and very scared of Conner.

Then we headed back and ate some of this goodness.

After lunch some of us caught a quick nap,

and headed to this village,

to hang out with these beautiful people.

Afterwards, we made a very interesting discovery.....

.....that allowed us to buy some food to give to some of San Jose's homeless. All in all, it was a great day. God is good!

OHIO DAY 4

this morning we needed a lot of this....

....and a little of this guy singing in order to wake us up, because......

but after a few hours and a couple cups of coffee, we hit the park up pretty hard. Even Jesus made an appearance.

We headed back to home base for a little R&R. Notice our summer intern cashing in on intern status.
After a break, we headed back to the park for a block party. Our students did a great job sharing about what Jesus has done in their lives.

We are making some new friends and enjoying being used by God!

OHIO DAY 3

We had another good day today. God made it rain so that we would consider visiting an assisted living home down the street from our church. Everyone had a great time and the residents were greatly encouraged. After that it was back to the streets and then a block party!

OHIO DAY 2

We had a great/relaxing day today! Everyone is doing good, eating their vegetables, and using their manors, just as I'm sure they do at home. We got some good work done today, and then took some time to play some games and finish the day off with a little miniature golf challenge.

I was looking around today and found a bunch of great albums for low, low prices. Might I recommend Gungor's Beautiful Things, Tenth Avenue North's The Light Meets the Dark, or Lecrae's Rehab. These are 3 of my favorite albums of the year, and they are only $5 at the time that I am posting this! I was reading Wayne Cordeiro's Leading On Empty this morning and thought I would share this quote:

"The adversary lurks in the shadows of vulnerable moments in our lives. Like an uncomplaining sniper squatting in a darkened second-story room, he squints patiently into his high-powered scope, waiting for an opportune time to squeeze off a shot at his unsuspecting target."

It reminds me of what scripture says:

"Be of sober spirit, be on alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." 1 Peter 5:8-9

and

"Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you." James 4:7

No doubt, as Cordeiro mentions, that we all have vulnerable moments in life. This can range anywhere from not getting enough sleep last night to horrible tragedies that come our way. The challenge for you and for I is to, as the scripture says, be aware, be on alert, and in these moments in our daily lives, submit ourselves to God. Live in complete dependence on His strength, because apart from Christ, we are left to sniper like shots from the enemy.
