Franco Pellizotti finally has been nabbed. After he won the individual time trial up the Plan des Corones in the 2008 Giro I said his performance was suspect. Go back and look at the footage: after he crossed the finish line he began giving an interview while looking as if he had completed a recovery ride. For comparison, look at the exertion on some of the other riders as they crested the top.

Just like you, i'm sorry that our sport has gone bad to worst. As you say - "I want to be a fan of, and I really have no idea which riders are clean and which aren't" - cycling has no longer heroes or myths or even a informed audience. It's here that we will miss CFA.

Off the top of my head, the two most memorable articles on CFA were 1) an article in Spanish from 1985 or so discussing Dr. Fuentes's involvement in doping with his country's athletes at the time and 2) another article in Spanish (from ABC News Spain) about CERA being seized in 2006 during the operation Puerto raids. The CERA which was seized was an earlier prototype version of the drug.

I will miss the blog.

Its a sad loss for those interested in the improving pro cycling but the likelihood of that happening while the apologists are still in power is close to zilch. The current state of the Vuelta is testament to that.

You know CFA, if this was a year ago I would be so mad at you for quitting. But now I think it's the only way. A man can only take so much, and cycling feels like a lost cause. I actually haven't been able to read any news for the past month. I can't even say that I strongly believe EBH is clean anymore.

Now, I will concentrate more on taking my bike beautiful places, than watching other people on it. Hope you will do the same.

Firstly - I had only discovered the CFA through a link posted on this forum - it was an excellent site, very informative with plenty of links to various stories.

At first I was shocked and saddened to hear that CFA was calling it quits - as another voice against the current state of Pro Cycling has been silenced.

But being completely honest now I am a little pi[I]s[/I]sed off at them.
I understand that they had received a lot of negative correspondence and it is difficult to remain positive.

CFA's passion for the sport is beyond question - yet when someone like that feels the need to step aside it is a terrible indictment of their faith in Pro Cycling.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

We have lost a Superdomestique - someone who spent longer on the front pushing through the hard times, so I appreciate their efforts - but I also hope too they find their sense of outrage, or duty or rediscover their passion for this sport to come back and do one last turn at the front.

CFA, I am definitely going to miss your informative & thought-provoking blog. It saddens me greatly that such a rich resource for cycling news is no more. I think that I can understand some of your frustrations with a sport that you clearly love and its inability to completely redress the doping issue. Thanks, CFA - totally get it: until it all blows up (which may or may not happen) not really worth writing about any more... Probably better to just ride your bike, rather than write about it - much more fulfilling.
