Hi Folks,

Last year on this day, we were in our Santacruz studio rehearsing, absolutely oblivious of the pandemonium outside until a cab exploded barely a kilometer away. What followed were incessant text messages and calls, and hours of shocking TV footage.

It's been a year to the day, but the pain has not been left behind. Our scars still show and our wounds still hurt. Let's come together to pay our homage to the loved ones, the valiant soldiers, and the myriad unsung heroes we lost. And let's remind ourselves once again what a privilege it is to be MUMBAIkars.

If we carry forward these thoughts - of peace and solidarity - not just for the rest of the day but for the rest of our lives, perhaps it will make a difference. It is with this hope that Zedde has put together a music video called 'Mumbai'. Peddle away to see the city with a bunch of cycling enthusiasts, as Freespirit organises an energetic bicycle ride in and around Mumbai, this weekend. A trip for everyone – Freespirit will provide trail of food, mineral water, necessary back-up vehicle, guide and yes of course the Cycles!

So go green, save the fossil fuel, and enjoy cycling on the roads of Madh Island and Gorai this weekend...

Schedule: - The ride starts off at Shivaji Park, Dadar and reaches the Versova Khadi from where the first ferry will be taken. The cycling then starts on the carefree roads of Madh Island to Aaksa beach and moving straight to Marve. Reach Manori via getty, and get a thrilling experience to cycle on the sands and quiet shores of Gorai beach. A bus transfer from Gorai takes us back to Dadar. This is a run of 45 -50 km where we would make an early start and be back by around 2.00 pm.

12 th Critical Mass Mumbai ( Critical Mass Birthday)

12 th critical mass is going to be a whole year since we started critical mass Mumbai.
So this time we plan to have critical mass with a difference
We will be starting from 5 different locations
namely vashi, borivily, churchgate and mulund.
(With designated mid points on each route so that riders that want to do a shorter ride can still join in)
and riders from all these areas will converge @ BKC ( Bandra Kurla Complex)

This would do several things, for one it would allow many more people to participate.
Secondly it would create an opportunity for continued critical mass events with multiple start point’s in the future in areas with sufficient amount of participants.
Besides it would be a great way of celebrating a year of critical mass.

Obaid is leading south Bombay and will start at Chowpatty @ 4:30pm and head on, Worli seaface @ 5pm, and Shivaji park @ 5:30pm, we can join the Dadar and Shivaji park group there, freshen up and head for BKC, we plan to reach there by 6:00pm.

Makrand is leading Vashi. Will start at 4.30 pm. Start Point: Opp. side of Vashi Plaza (Towards Mumbai Side, Below the Vashi Bridge)

NOTE: During Critical mass
We ride in a particular formation; we take up a lane with two riders riding side by side.
The reason for this formation is to protect the not so experienced bikers from the traffic.
There is a tendency to slip through spaces in chock a block traffic. While that is an advantage a cycle has in traffic, but during critical mass with quite a few inexperienced riders every time the formation is broken we put riders in danger.
And believe me there are a lot of riders that are not comfortable with riding in traffic.
So please stick to the formation it makes it safer and easier to manage.

The juggernaut of the Youth Film Festival “One for all and all for one”
is finally arriving in Mumbai after traveling to Pune, Bangalore,
Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad. Organized under the auspices of the PASCH
–Project ,the Festival will be held here from 8th to 11th of December
2009.
As the title suggests the festival focuses on probably one of the most
important aspects of growing up: Friendship - and how it makes our
lives in our formative years that much more special.

The four films being showcased in this festival are:

Emil and the Detectives Director:
Francis Buch, Germany 2001

A modern version of the charming novel by one of the most loved German
authors for children, Erich Kästner. The film follows an adventure of
young Emil Tischbein and his new found friends in Berlin.

The Flying Classroom
Director: Tony Wigand, Germany 2002

Based on another classic novel by Erich Kästner, this film is the city
of Leipzig. Young Johnathan has just joined the famous boarding school,
“Thomaner”. He finds new friends in his classmates and they decide to
put up a play based on an old script they find in the school. But the
quire forbids it and thus ensues unexpected challenges…

The Wild Soccer Bunch

“If you wanna be cool, you gotta be wild!” is the mantra of this motley
bunch of six-to-ten-year old football fans. If Summer is God, then
Football is their religion! But alas, this summer brings with it rain,
bigger , stronger, meaner boys taking over their football fields ,
unrelenting parents and the all deciding football match!

Wild Chicks

Every girl needs that one best girlfriend , but our Sprotte has three!
Meet the “Wild Chicks”, the best , the coolest girl gang around. All
Wild Chicks wear a chicken's feather around their neck and have sworn
to never kill or eat chicken. Though they are as different as chalk and
cheese, they stick together no matter what! And Sprotte needs them now
especially, when Grandmother Slättberg is going to slaughter their
beloved chickens. What will the Wild Chicks do now?

The PASCH Initiative:
PASCH Programme, initiated a year ago by the Minister of Foreign
Affairs Germany, Walter Steinmeier, has formed a network of about 1000
schools all over the world teaching German as a foreign language. The
project aims to foster intercultural relations and to support teachers
and students of German as a foreign language. In India 41 schools are
members of PASCH, out of which 4 schools and junior colleges are form
Mumbai. In order to support the German language Max Mueller Bhavan
organized youth camps in Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, and Germany.
Quizes, Painting and fairytale competitions, theater workshops were
organized as well as special training units for PASCH- teachers at Max
Mueller Bhavan and in Germany.

After these successful events we look forward to a colorful year ahead.

An investigation into two contrary, but equally radical lives, both of
which ended through violence: Alfred Herrhausen, chairman of the board
of Deutsche Bank, died in 1989 in a bomb attack presumably planned and
executed by the RAF. Four years later, the suspected RAF terrorist
Wolfgang Grams was to be arrested at Bad Kleinen station, but died in a
hail of bullets. The circumstances surrounding his death were never
fully revealed.

discussions and intrigues which were carefully concealed from the
public eye at the time.

becoming more and more apparent. The Monday prayers in the St. Nicholas
Church are attended by an increasing number of people. The state reacts

repressive measures. On 9 October 1989 the Leipzig citizens achieve a
decisive victory. The head of Leipzig state security declares : "We
have reckoned with many things, but not with candles and prayers !"

Contemporary witnesses include an American historian, a church minister

One of the absurd consequences: British homeopathists use pulverized
concrete from the wall to produce a therapeutic agent.

· watch a film on the subject

· talk to experts in the matter

· learn to protect yourself, your community and your environment

· understand why the organic, Bt-free path is a far saner option

‘Poison on the Platter’ is a 30 min documentary film directed by Ajay
Kanchan and presented by Mahesh Bhatt. It succinctly presents the health
effects of GM food, the regulatory situation, and above all, asks us to be
aware of what is in our food and to ensure the safety of our food.

The film will be followed by a talk and discussion with Vasant Futane,
Bharat Mansata, and Devi Lakshmi Kutty,

Vasant Futane has been practising organic farming for 25 years in Amravati,
and also actively promoting watershed management -- soil and water
conservation -- for over a decade. He is familiar too with the serious
problems faced by Bt cotton farmers of his district.

Bharat Mansata is an author- editor- activist and a co-founder of
'Earthcare Books' (Kolkata), involved in environmental and sustainability
issues for over two decades. He most recently authored ‘The Great
Agricultural Challenge’ and ‘Organic Revolution’.

Devi is a sustainable agriculture and food activist, associated with Thanal,
an advocacy and research group for sustainable agriculture in Kerala.

Audio Canvas Mount Mary Steps, bandra west

Bombay Elektrik Projekt, in association of Alliance Francaise, Mumbai, presents the first in a series of unique audio-visual treats.

Three musicians (French artists DJ Loopkin + guitarist Yvan Le Gall and trombone player Armeet Panesar) will jam live while artist Amrita Bagchi reacts to their music and paints live. Watch the creative process of a variety of artists across genres as the night builds up. We end it with a good ol' dance vibe.

Amrita Bagchi
A graduate in graphic design from the country's premier design institute - NID, Ahmedabad, Amrita is in perpetual danger of being interested in too many things like filmmaking, animation, illustration, painting, graphic design, graphic novels, writing, reading, doodling, music, dance and what not. Besides perfecting her skill and technique, Amrita also loves flea markets. and anything that is vintage and antique and well, really old.

That explains why she wanted to be an archeologist at one point. Like all great artists it seems, she's quirky, whimsical, moody and fairly illogical most of the time.

DJ Loopkin
DJ/producer Loopkin plays groovy, progressive, funky and dynamic electro-techno music. His sets are an analog delight - he always uses turntables and effects. As part of the now-legendary Bhavishayvani Future Soundz crew, Loopkin regularly presides over some of the best dance music gigs in Mumbai. His sets have been fixtures at the city’s leading venues like Aurus in Juhu and Blue Frog in Lower Parel.

He‘s gigged all over France with international DJs like The Youngsters (f.com, Fr), Stryke (Guidance USA), Steve Bicknell ( Cosmic, UK) and the father of French house music, Laurent Garnier (F com, Fr).

Yvan Le Gall
A professional guitarist since 1993 who's has been playing in different bands from rock to jazz-rock, for studio sessions and also a lot of duet gigs with some singers from his place, Pays de la Loire, France.

He's spent several months in India since 2006, travelling and above all meeting musicians, learning, sharing and understanding basis of raga and the use of the numerous indian modes (melakartas & thaats). He's now set his heart on Mumbai (Bombay) where traditional music is often mixed with western style, that he likes very much. Check out his music page www.myspace.com/yvanlegall

Armeet 'the bone' Panesar
Ad-libbing funky riffs, layering atmospheric sounds, elevating acoustic zones are all part of the mixture that fires up deep punchy bass lines and tripped high frequencies. The idea behind Armeet ‘the bone’ Panesar‘s trombone act is to propel its uniqueness and create its awareness across as many nations as possible.

The trombone for Armeet took off back in 2000, when the horn moved its way into the Scottish funk scene with the well-known outfit – The Fleamarket. Having hosted a festival venue for the Edinburgh Fringe in 2003, the band became one of Scotland’s most sought after funk and soul bands playing in Edinburgh’s La Belle Angelle, The Venue and Cabaret Voltaire.

Soon after, a new collaboration formed with some of Edinburgh’s finest musicians – the group became to be known as Uncle Samson, a towering 14-piece soul band, the only one of its kind in Northern UK (myspace/unclesamsonfunk)

After moving to Mumbai in 2008 as a practicing architect, the ‘bone’ set itself up with some of India’s finest acts, helping to promote brass sections and an otherwise widely unheard of instrument in the city. With the likes of Junckt, Something Relevant (STR) and other independent bands, he has covered Mumbai’s best social venues, including Blue Frog, Zenzi Mills and Zenzi Bandra as well as performing with STR at the Kala Ghoda festival
