Director Sohail Khan squashes Eid release rumours!

Bollywood actor Salman Khan's next movie 'Mental', directed by brother Sohail Khan has been in news for all sorts of reason.

First the confusion about the leading lady until they settled for Tabu, Daisy Shah and Sana Khan.

The title was an issue and then the release date. There were reports that Sohail and Salman Khan were not happy with the title 'Mental'.

Sohail rubbished all such rumours and told, "It is a satire and we perfectly believe that it is the right title ('Mental') and is complementary to the script".

Speculations on the release date during Eid festival have been doing the rounds but Sohail is a cool customer. He believes in completing his task and wants to focus on the creative side rather than getting bogged down with such issues.

Speaking exclusively to Emirates24|7 in Dubai, where he was shooting for a property promo, Sohail Khan killed speculation about an Eid release.

'Mental' has completed four schedules and Sohail gave us a tentative date, "The movie will be released in January 2014".

Sohail was inspired by the Telugu hit 'Stalin' and decided to make 'Mental' starring his brother Salman Khan in the lead along with Tabu, newcomer Daisy Shah and Sana Khan.

For the past three years Salman has been delivering consecutive hits at the box office, creating a new benchmark in the industry.

His movies have also been fetching record breaking revenue for the makers.

Their younger brother Arbaaz Khan has been lucky to cross the 100 crore (INR) mark when he directed Salman in his last two movies 'Dabangg' and 'Dabangg 2'.

Talking about the pressure of delivering similar results, Sohail said, "Whenever Salman is there (in a movie) and if you don’t deliver Rs100 crore then it is a matter of concern.

“But now I am not chasing any figure. I am enjoying my role as a director and I want my brother to be proud of me."

Rajkumar Santoshi to start the project by end of this year

It is official. The sequel to the 1994 rib-tickler starring Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, Andaz Apna Apna is finally going on floors by the third week of December. Producer Vinay Kumar Sinha had approached Rajkumar Santoshi, the director of the original, to helm the project and Santoshi, who has agreed to do the project, is likely to begin with the pre-production as soon as he wraps up Phata Poster Nikla Hero which he is currently shooting.

Although the cast of the second installment of Andaz Apna Apna is yet to be finalised, there are effort to get part of the original cast on board. Vinay Kumar told TOI, " We will be discussing the project with Aamir and Salman. It would be great if that works out. Otherwise, we'll sign up some other actors to play the lead."

TOI has also learnt that Sinha has roped in Ram Mirchandani, co producer of Vicky Donor, to head the production unit for the film.

Explaining why he chose to make a sequel to the film after 19 years, Vinay Kumar said: "People were asking me to do a sequel ever since the film became a hit. At that time, I was not too sure, if the Indian audience is ready for a second part. But, now the time is ripe. Remakes and sequels are in vogue. "

Salman Khan makes a comfort call to Sanjay Dutt's daughter

Salman Khan has reached out to his friend Sanjay Dutt's daughter Trishala.

The actor, who visited Dutt's residence on Wednesday night, has called Trishala and told her that he will always be there for her. Though Dutt has not spoken to Trishala for over a-month-and-a-half, Salman has been in constant touch with her.

A source said, "Salman was in America when the news of Dutt's conviction broke. The first person Salman called was Trishala who has been away from her father for a long time. Sallu promised to be there for her whenever she needed him."

Trishala, it is learnt, did try calling Dutt on Wednesday night, but there was no response. The two have a long distance father-daughter relationship.

Sanju had met Trishala in the Bahamas in 2008 when he was shooting for Blue.

Hrithik Roshan is known to maintain healthy relationships with his colleagues in the industry. So we were surprised when we heard of his fallout with Salman Khan while he was busy with Guzaarish (2010).

It was later reported that the two had spoken and buried the hatchet. And it looks like there isn’t any animosity left between the two. In fact, Hrithik has now come out in support of Salman’s Being Human Foundation.

A source close to the actor reveals, “Hrithik went over to the Being Human store in Bandra a few days ago. He is the first big star to have gone there. He was at the store for some time. Hrithik looked around and was happy with all that was on offer. He really liked the initiative.” The source goes on to add that he shopped a lot at the store and the staff was happy to see him there. They wanted to interact with him and the actor gladly obliged.

Apparently, Hrithik even posed for photographs. The source says, “The staff wanted to click photos with him. He patiently stood and posed, and even gave some autographs. In his interactions, Hrithik promised to return whenever he’d get time in between his shoots.”

Salman launched the Being Human store in Bandra recently and has so far been getting positive reviews for his initiative. The source adds, “Hrithik is equally involved in other charity initiatives. He was happy with the way the store has shaped up.”

Salman Khan to relaunch Govinda in Being Human Production film

Salman Khan’s ‘Being Human’, which is all set to produce its first Bollywood film, will now give a new lease of life to Govinda’s film career.

Many in the film industry would swear by Salman Khan’s friendship. The hunk of an actor is enormously popular as a lion-hearted superstar, who doesn’t think twice before extending help to people.

Govinda, who is known to be a very close friend of Salman, has grabbed the lead role in the project which is said be inspired by a Marathi film titled ‘Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho’ directed by Mahesh Manjrekar.

Here’s what Manjrekar had once said about Salman Khan:

“I don’t think there is a better human being than Salman. He is always there for you, just a call away. I have never seen a more rooted guy than him. He is one of the biggest stars we have, but he has no airs. Though his vanity van is always parked on his set, he is never inside it. He never eats his lunch alone. Water tanks donated by Salman Khan to leave Nagpur today

NAGPUR: Actor Salman Khan has donated money to purchase 2,500 water tanks with storage capacity of 2000 litres each to the drought hit districts of Maharashtra. The first batch of 400 tanks will be dispatched from the manufacturer at Nagpur to Beed, Osmanabad, Jalna and Nanded district on Tuesday.

A source from Khan's office informed, "Salman wanted to help the drought-affected region and people, so we got in touch with the chief minister's office and offered our help. We were told that water is being supplied to these areas through tankers, but there is a problem of storage facilities. This was resulting in hygiene issues and fear of the spread of diseases. The CM's office suggested that Salman could provide storage tanks for the region, and we agreed to do so."

The Aurangabad divisional commissioner office has confirmed that Salman will be donating 750 water tanks to Beed, 500 each to Osmanabad and Jalna, and 250 each to Aurangabad and Nanded districts.

Salman Khan will share screen space with Shahid Kapoor for the first time in Rajkumar Santoshi's upcoming film, Phata Poster Nikla Hero (PPNK). The Dabangg (2010) star will be seen in a special appearance in the movie, in which Shahid plays the role of a police officer.

"They shot for the scene together over the last weekend at a suburban studio. The shoot lasted for six hours or so," reveals a source close to the production house. However, details of Khan's role are being kept under wraps. "Rajkumar wants it to be a surprise for the audience. So, no one - apart from the actors involved in the scene - is aware of what his role is."

Apparently, after Salman finished shooting his portion, he stayed back on the sets for the rest of the day. The source adds, "He and Rajkumar are really close friends, so he was catching up with him. In fact, he even spent a few hours bonding with Shahid. They were seen chit-chatting for quite some time after the shoot." The film's female lead, Ileana D'Cruz, will not be part of the scene. While most of the film's shooting has been finished, an insider says that they have another month's work left to complete. When contacted, Shahid's spokesperson confirms the news, saying, "Yes, Shahid and Salman shot together a few days ago."

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's 'Being Human' foundation has come forward to offer help in the drought-hit Marathwada region of Maharashtra.

The foundation will provide 2,500 water tankers with a storage capacity of 2,000 litres each to the drought affected districts of Marathwada from May 6 to 31, according to an e-mail received recently by the Aurangabad Divisional Commissioner from Salman Khan's 'Being Human' Foundation.

Beed Residential District Collector B M Kamble said they had also received a mail regarding this from the divisional commissioner yesterday.

"We have received an e-mail that Beed district will get 750 water tanks from 'Being Human' foundation. We have informed the Divisional Commissioner for distribution of these tanks," Kamble said.

As per the e-mail, the NGO would supply 750 water tankers to Beed, 500 each to Osmanabad and Jalna, and 250 each to Aurangabad and Nanded.

People of the Marathwada region have been facing acute water scarcity caused by uneven distribution of rainfall in the state.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan feels people should engage themselves in charity irrespective of the reasons for it.

"Everybody in the industry does charity. Some people talk about it and some people don't. They say intent is important in charity, I don't believe it. Even if someone is doing charity to show off, I have no problems with it. One should just do charity for whatever reasons they want," said Salman Khan.

The 47-year-old actor's NGO Being Human has joined hands with Fortis foundation to unveil the Little Hearts programme to provide care to children with congenital heart defects.

Salman also opened his merchandise store in the hospital here.

"I think if you have money, you should use it to save life. I feel what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean," he added.

The Dabangg star, who is fondly called 'Sallu Bhai', said that he does not like when ladies call him 'bhai'.
"I have four sisters and two of them are rakhi sisters . They are enough for me. I cannot handle people calling me 'bhai'. In fact I don't know how to react when a girl calls me 'bhai'," Salman said.

When asked about the secret of his fit and fabulous body even at this age, the actor said, "My father says after 30 years a man is responsible for his own looks. So, if you are a frustrated person then it will show on your face."

Salman Khan described his NGO Being Human as the 'heart and soul' of his life.

Salman Khan was in town on Wednesday for a noble cause. The superstar was at the Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurgaon to launch The Little Hearts Program, a charitable initiative jointly launched by his NGO Being Human and the Fortis Foundation.

The programme will provide treatment to children suffering from congenital heart diseases free or at nominal charges.

"I hope a few steps made by us will help the ailing children. We want more and more such facilities to be made available in hospitals so that people can benefit from them," Salman said.

The actor met Renu Begum, a 19-month old from Agartala who has been suffering from hydrocephalus. The medical condition causes an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the cavities of the brain, which leads to progressive enlargement of the head, convulsion and mental disability.

The baby was recently admitted to Fortis after she got extensive media attention.

Looking dapper in a black suit teamed with white shirt, Salman spent most of his time talking to the ailing children instead of discussing the initiative.

Describing Being Human as the "heart and soul" of his life, he said he hoped that the maximum number of children would benefit from it.

Salman, who is currently filming Mental, his home production directed by brother Sohail Khan, refrained from talking about the film or other things on the professional front.

"Let us talk only about the children today," he said.

Over the past year, Salman has been extensively promoting brand Being Human. He recently launched Being Human stores in Ludhiana and Chandigarh, which have a wide collection of merchandise. The sales are aimed at raising funds for charity.

From celebs to little-known nobodies, everyone who loves the beefy star have worn their support for the Khan, ever since he launched the fashion line, under the label of his charitable initiative ‘Being Human’.

The only flaw was how the Bollywood heartthrob, who boasts of an impressively large female fan club, had kicked-off his collection with an exclusive line for the men, and none for the women.

But, that minor hiccup has been cleared.

Female fans, who’ve been eagerly waiting for their turn to wear their ‘love for Salman’, can now do so.

High-street brands Splash and Iconic, which stocks the ‘Being Human’ collection, has announced that the women’s collection will be launched in a day.

Initially, there were reports that the women’s line of ‘Being Human’ would hit the Splash stores in March, the same time it was launched in India.

When Emirates24|7 had contacted Splash Fashions about whether the women’s line will be available in Dubai, they were unable to confirm.

The new line will offer an entire range of women's wear comprising tees, trousers, hotpants, and denims.

The delay, however, has not dampened the spirits of his female fans, who’ve had to make do with the men’s t-shirts for want of choice. Many have already bought over-sized men’s ‘Being Human’ t-shirts.

“I just had to buy it. I bought the smallest size and have made minor alterations to make it fit,” announced a beaming Nikita. This teen, like many others, didn’t want to wait till a special line was launched.

“I am a huge die-hard fan of Salman Khan and am loyal to his Being Human brand,” added her friend Shalini.

“A lot of Indian girls buy Being Human t-shirts. Salman Khan is a big star and his fans are crazy about him,” informed a store manager at Ibn Battutta mall store.

The Indian media reports that the INR35-billion brand aspires to turn into a INR350-billion entity by 2015.

The brand, which displays the brand name in different fonts and colours on t-shirts, has been a rage since its launch in 2009.

Apart from Salman’s family, his brothers – Sohail and Arbaaz, sister-in-law Malaika, other celebs like Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Sonakshi Sinha and Priety Zinta also sport the t-shirts.

“All fashion labels are about looking good, Being Human is also about doing good,” Salman had said at the Dubai launch last June.

Proceeds of the sale goes to the Being Human: The Salman Khan Foundation, which was set up by the actor in 2007.

Rubbishing reports that the new Salman Khan film Mental is releasing on November 22, Sohail Khan says, "That I am releasing the film on November 22 is news to me also. Now people are deciding for me when I'll release my film without my knowledge."

Laughing off the rumours Sohail says he's aiming for a year-end release for Mental. "The way the shooting is going I might make it by the end of the year, Inshallah. But I haven't locked in on a date yet."
