Snapchat 2.0 released with Android Video Messaging feature

Through the new app, Snapchat users can add videos to messages and share them more easily. It is available on Google Play store here.

In a blog post, Snapchat stated that it faced a number of challenges in making Snapchat video for Android as the Phones were not developed with Snapchat in mind. It said that developing a new hardware for Android Phones was very tough but still exciting. The company stated that some users may face some difficulties while using Snapchat video and can email them to make Snapchat better.

Snapchat’s new video feature allows you to send clips up to 10-seconds in length along with your message. It also has a unique feature that allows you to configure the video to disappear after 1-10 seconds of being watched. The Snapchat Video port was launched for iOS two months back and is now available on Android.

Snapchat 2.0 also has other improvements, such as a new notification system that can be customized to deliver a variety of different alerts to the users; better camera frame-rates and navigation speed, and better overall reliability.

Apple patent reveals new details about iWatch

A patent filed by Apple in August 2011 reveals the company's plans for a device that can display content from other Apple devices and be worn like a wristwatch. The patent describes that the iWatch will feature a slap bracelet mechanism that will wrap itself around the wearer's wrist. The iWatch will also comprise of a flexible display that will change the visible area according to the size of the wearer’s wrist.

Apple Insider first spotted the patent application and point out that the iWatch will not just act as a display but will also be able to provide basic interaction that could let the wearer browse and control music playlists, go through call and text notifications and even reply to a text using a virtual keyboard. Apple also plans to include a kinetic energy gathering mechanism and solar panels so that the wearer's movements and ambient light would be enough to power the device. Apple also plans to utilize AMOLED technology to ensure that the display on the iWatch isn't power-hungry. The iWatch is expected to mostly rely on wireless connectivity but may also feature ports for wired charging and syncing.

Rumours surrounding the iWatch have gathered momentum in 2013 with sources close to Apple stating that there's already a 100 member strong team within Cupertino working on the iWatch. Other sources have stated that Apple have already asked Foxconn to begun work on the device and a suitable display for it.

With Google Glass also on the horizon, it looks like wearable computing will be an important trend in the near future

Tweet with the LivesOn app even after you die

If you were wondering what would happen to your social networking account once you passed away, fear not. An app called LivesOn is expected to launch in March. The tagline of the app is, “When your heart stops beating, you’ll keep tweeting.”

LivesOn uses a special algorithm that tracks the user's trends and Twitter feed. The data is then used to determine content that the user would write himself or retweet and the app then tweets or retweets the link. Anyone who signs up for the service is asked to nominate an executor who will have control of the account, just like a will.

Dave Bedwood, creative partner of Lean Mean Fighting Machine, the London-based ad agency that is developing the app told the Guardian, “It divides people on a gut level, before you even get to the philosophical and ethical arguments. It offends some, and delights others. Imagine if people started to see it as a legitimate but small way to live on. Cryogenics costs a fortune; this is free and I'd bet it will work better than a frozen head.”

Dead Social is one more app that gives users the ability to send messages after their death through social networking services such as Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn. Whatever happened to leaving an old fashioned letter? P.S. I Love you anyone?

Some may think of the service as keeping their memory alive where as others may think of it as down right creepy that they see updates and tweets from a person whose funeral they attended recently.

Yahoo introduced new newsfeed feature like facebook

Yahoo has introduced a new newsfeed feature with infinite scroll similar to that on Facebook and Twitter which will allow users to log in through their Facebook IDs and be able to access information about their friends varying from articles to birthdays, videos, etc.

This the biggest product revamp taken by CEO Marissa Mayer since she took over the ailing company last year. Yahoo has been the most visited site but its revenues have declined in recent years. It has lost its internet space to competitors like Google as well as Facebook.

The major changes that will be coming out in the next few weeks will include mobile applications for smartphones as well as tablets. This makeover follows the new updated version of Yahoo mail that was introduced in December 2012. It is said that with this move Yahoo will strength its ties with Facebook to compete against Google for Web users' attention. However it still remains to be seen whether the revamp will actually bring back Yahoo's Internet audience.

Yahoo has given a forecast for a modest increase in revenues for the year but it is still not much compared to the growth of its competitors like Google and Facebook which have the majority of the market share. Yahoo will be rolling out the new look for US users over the next few days though nothing has been said about its global rollout plans yet.

Google releases a faster Drive version 1.1.592.10 for Android 3.0+

Google has not elaborated on the Drive update but has stated that users will have a more efficient and faster experience while using the application.

Google Drive helps you store data, documents, pictures, etc. with ease and with the updated version 1.1.592.10 now you can share these files, etc much more efficiently.

Google has added two new features that can be downloaded directly from the Google Play store (7.2 MB) absolutely free. The app ensures performance improvements as well as fixes bugs in Google Drive.

The first feature allows you to stream video files with ease on Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) or higher. This is very useful for users who like to share files in their work place or with friends. Now you can stream all your documents, videos, etc directly from your Google Drive and view it on your Android Device.

The second new feature that has been added is the pinch-to-zoom support in the presentation viewer. This tool is helpful for users who have Android devices with small screens. Apple rolls out iTunes v11.0.2, adds Composer view for music

apple has rolled out iTunes v11.0.2, which brings in various bug fixes and speed enhancements. The update also adds a new Composer view for music section as well as improved responsiveness for large playlists, and a glitch fix for purchases that don't show up in iTunes.

Various other performance enhancements are also included in the update. The MiniPlayer now includes album art, adds Up Next, and makes it easy to search for something new to play.

The search field now shows instant results from across library. Moreover, playback syncing has been improved as iCloud now remembers users' place in a movie or TV show, which means users can play the same movie or episode from their iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV, it will begin right where they left off.

sony's event kicks off on tonight in New York and speculations are abuzz as to what the gaming giant will announce at the event. Social gaming, better graphics, motion controls and an all-new dual shock controller are all a part of the rumours.

In a matter of a few hours, Sony’s event in New York will kick off. Sony had sent out a teaser along with the invite, which hinted that the event would be about the next generation in console gaming. Of course, Sony might not actually reveal anything about the the PS4 (as we’d like to call it) or Orbis (as it’s been known) today.. Still, we think Sony will unveil the next generation console at today's New York event, give some details about the games for the device at GDC 2013 and have a full unveiling (launch date, variants and price points) at E3 2013.

If rumours on the Internet are to be believed then the next-gen console from Sony Computer Entertainment will go on sale around November 2013 and will be available in two variants priced at $500 and $600. When the PS3 was launched back in 2006, it was priced at $550 and $650 respectively.

Other speculations suggest that Sony has redesigned the dual shock controller as well for the PS4. Leaked images suggest that it has the same form factor as the dual-shock controller but the analogue sticks have been modified for better comfort. The controller will also have a touch panel in the same place that housed the start and select button. This will be the same panel that is found on the back of the PS Vita.

Speculations also suggest that Sony is working towards a project called PlayStation Cloud. This service may let users save game data, game clips and other content on the cloud. It is also speculated that gamers will be able to watch what their friends are playing in real time. The cloud service that Sony is apparently working on will be used to play PS3 games for backward compatibility. The PlayStation 4 will also have deeper social networking integration with Facebook and Twitter.

Sony will be ditching the cell based processor architecture found on the PS3 for a more PC-like architecture making the development process of the games a lot more developer friendly.

Another rumour being churned out on the Internet, and this one has got the gaming community in quite a stir, is that the system will not be able to play used games. Gamers will need to input a code or be connected to the Internet to be able to play the game.

The PlayStation 4 is also expected to have motion gaming built in. The Eye Toy along with the Move controllers converted the PS3 into a Wii HD. How Sony will integrate the move controller with the next gen system is yet to be seen.

Nintendo has already entered the next generation console war with the launch of the Wii U. the unique feature about this console is that it houses a 10-inch tablet as the controller adding more gameplay elements. Microsoft is the only company that needs to lift the veil off its next generation gaming console.

Samsung Galaxy Note can be updated to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean

Samsung has started rolling out the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for the first generation Galaxy Note GT-N7000. The Galaxy Note is the first successful Phablet to hit store shelves, after the Dell Streak, which wasn’t successful.

The update may not be available to all the users as it is being rolled out in phases throughout the globe. Samsung will be revamping the interface found on the device with the Nature UX Interface. It the same one found on the Samsung Galaxy S III and the Note II.

The update will bring with it a slew of features to the device. The new features will include Android 4.1.2, Great Stability (Thanks to Project Butter), Multi-View (Multi Windows Multitasking, same as in Note II), Page Buddy, Notification Panel can now be customized,   New Additions in Notification Panel, Smart Rotation (Screen Display adjusts to your angle of sightings), Continues Input in Samsung Keyboard (Like Swipe or Android 4.2 Keyboard),  Samsung’s Cloud services, Features like Direct Call, Smart Stay and Pop-up Play,  New Widgets From the Galaxy S III, 2 Home screen modes, New Notifications bar and of course, Google Now.

Samsung Galaxy S 4 specifications

The Samsung Galaxy S IV, the successor to the highly successful Galaxy S III, may be revealed by Samsung next month. Prolific mobile blogger Eldar Murtazin tweeted last night that Samsung was planning a big event on March 14 and in later tweets, claimed that the event was indeed for the Samsung Galaxy S IV. The Verge has also confirmed the rumour through their own sources, and added that Samsung may also be showing off some other devices apart from the Galaxy S IV at the event.

The Internet has been rife with rumours about the Samsung Galaxy S IV and the new features it will boast of. According to these rumours, the Galaxy S IV will get a 4.99-inch display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and 440 ppi. It will come with Android Jelly Bean and will be powered by a quad-core Samsung Exynos processor, at least outside Korea.

The phone could also support wireless charging and Samsung is expected to launch accessories to complement that feature. The camera on the Galaxy S IV is also expected to get an upgrade and the new camera will be able to shoot images up to 13MP. While the phone may be revealed in March, Samsung is expected to make it available for purchase from April of this year. Other rumours include absence of any physical buttons on the phone's face (or not) and S-Pen support (like on the Galaxy Note devices).

We’re just monkeys who mash buttons and then cunningly remember the patterns that emerge, and eventually put it all together to make something happen. We’re not smart. We’re just clever. The smart people include Nokia and the people who discover graphene.

Graphene: Material of the Future!

Graphene’s pretty amazing. It’s pure carbon, with the atoms arrange in a honeycomb or hexagonal pattern in a sheet exactly one atom thick, making it two-dimensional:

That means that graphene is incredibly strong, incredibly flexible, and incredibly conductive. In other words, it’s possibly the most useful thing ever discovered in the modern age. If you stack some graphene sheets on top of each other they aren’t graphene any more, they’re graphite, just FYI. In case the subject comes up at parties and you don’t want to look like a moron. Not that this has ever happened to us.

The uses of graphene are sometimes a bit obscure, but if you think about them they become amazing. For one, you can create electrodes with a large surface area, because graphene is a sheet, and a very low electrical resistance. Graphene is also the strongest material known to man, 300 times stronger than steel – and yet it’s one atom thick. It’s transparent and bendable, too – if you can’t imagine a million uses for that, my friends, you have the imagination of Michael Bay. Graphene has potential applications as computer displays (cheaper than OLED and just as clear and bright), batteries that charge faster, chemical sensors – the list goes on.

Nokia and Graphene and $1.35 Billion

So it’s no wonder that the world is pretty eager to throw some money at graphene, and recently Nokia, as part of a research consortium that includes 73 companies and academic institutions, recently received $1.35 Billion from the European Union for the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) to develop manufacturing processes and applications for graphene.

Most of us know Nokia as the Finnish phone maker who once dominated the market but whose phone division has seen better days, and only recently had a big celebration for the World’s Tiniest Profit for a Multinational Corporation. But now, consider a future world where Nokia has developed a manufacturing process for its phones using graphene in a variety of ways. The phones are super-light and super-thin. The screens are bright and cheap. The battery recharges in minutes. And they get to develop all of this on someone else’s dime – that’s genius. Sure, they have to share the technology, but they’ll still have a definite advantage that will last for years.

The BBC recently reported that graphene can be used to distill alcohol. Since the technology of booze hasn’t advanced much in the last few centuries, we implore Nokia to make this research their top priority – who’s with us!

Jelly Bean Update for Motorola

Motorola has published a list of devices which are eligible for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in there forum blog.

The complete list can be spotted in the Motorola’s forum blog. The list contains Motorola smartphones which will be updated on a monthly basis. Motorola is also offering $100 rebate to those people who will not be receiving the Jelly Bean update as part of the company’s trade up program.

The company also stated that the discount will be offered in the form of a Motorola Visa Prepaid Card, Verizon Wireless Gift Card, carrier credit, or other equivalent at Motorola's discretion. Motorola also mentions that the rebate offer is only applicable on the trade-in of eligible devices. This program is applicable only for sales of Android Motorola smartphones in U.S.

The smartphone which are getting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update are Droid Razr M, Razr HD and Razr Mazz HD by this year end and the Droid Razr and Droid Razt Maxx which already got Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update in the mid of this year will also get Jelly Bean update.

Diverting some of the attention away from Apple’s ‘iPad mini’ unveiling on October 23 and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 event on October 29, Google is to unveil a number of new devices and software improvements on the same day as Microsoft - and we have all the details.

A source with knowledge of Google’s plans has told The Next Web that the search giant has been distributing a video recorded at one of its weekly all-hands “TGIF” meetings on its internal network, which details the devices that will be unveiled at its hastily arranged October 29 event (which we will also be attending).

Confirming leaks from various inventory systems and advertisements in both the US and the UK, Google will release a 32GB variant of the Nexus 7. However, our source also tells us that there will be a second 32GB variant that will offer HSPA+ (3G) support, allowing users to take the tablet on their travels.

Google has also been working with Samsung to launch a 10-inch tablet, confirming leaks which suggested Google had teamed up with the Korean manufacturer for another device. Our source tells us that internally the tablet goes under the name “Codename Manta”, runs Google’s new Android 4.2 operating system (previously referred to as Key Lime Pie, but is set to retain the Jelly Bean branding), and will offer a 2560×1600 pixel (16:10) resolution, which we believe will offer around 300 pixels per inch (PPI) compared to the new iPad’s 264 PPI.

The Manta codename also ties up with Android Police’s sleuthing, where it was suggested the launch of a 10-inch tablet device. We believe the Samsung tablet will be called the ‘Nexus 10′ but we were unable to confirm at the time of publishing.

Earlier this week, we posted details on the next Nexus smartphone, which will be manufactured by LG. We have been informed that earlier leaks have been 100 percent correct.

This means that Google will launch the LG Nexus 4, featuring a quad-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon processor, 4.7-inch 1280 x 768 display, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera (and 1.3-megapixel front-facing snapper) and a 2100mAh battery.

The LG Nexus 4 will also be powered by Google’s new Android 4.2 software.

Speaking of the OS itself, we have some details on that too. It has been confirmed that as part of Android 4.2, Google will introduce ‘Content in the center,’ which will allow users to access Play Store content from a widget and ‘Tablet Sharing’ which will suit families and enterprise users, providing them with a simple and easy to switch between several users on a tablet, each with their own email and apps.

Our source says that Android 4.2 will compete with Apple’s iOS 6, in that the panoramic camera settings will be updated to support both horizontal and vertical movement by default.

While Microsoft is holding its event in San Francisco on October 29, Google has chosen to hold its own event in New York.

Google’s event tagline of “The playground is open” suggests there will be quite a lot to experience and play with at the event. From what we have seen (and confirmed with Google sources), this is certainly the case.

A new study, led by sociologists Hui-Tzu Grace Chou and Nicholas Edge, at Utah Valley University has found the more hours people spend on social networking sites, like Facebook, the stronger is their belief that others are happier.
The researchers claim that the carefully chosen pictures of cheerful faces which Facebook users tend to upload on their pages actually portray a debilitating message to others. "Looking at happy pictures of others on Facebook gives people an impression that others are 'always' happy and having good lives. While Facebook users will know that their real friends have ups and downs in their lives, all they have to go on with their fake Facebook 'friends' is a smiling picture," 'Daily Mail' quoted Chou as saying.

For their study, the researchers interviewed 425 undergraduate students about their happiness and that of their friends. The subjects were asked how much they agreed or disagreed with statements such as "Life is fair" and "Many of my friends have a better life than me" . The students then described their Facebook activity including their number of "friends" . Some 95% used the website and on average they had been there for two-and-a-half years, and spent nearly five hours a week on it. The findings, published in 'Cyberpsychology , Behaviour and Social Networking' journal, revealed that "the more hours people spent on Facebook, the stronger was their agreement that others were happier".

Samsung Galaxy SIII specification in india

Samsung is planning to hit the market with a new version of the same device with new features, named as Galaxy SIII. The Galaxy SIII will be announced in February 2012.

The Samsung Galaxy SIII is also expected to come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 1 GB of RAM and 4.6 inch Super Amoled Plus HD display with 1280X720 pixels resolution. The other likely features in this device would be 12 mega pixel camera and support for NFC (near field communication) and LTE (long term evolution).

The device will come with Samsung Exynos 4412 quad core processor which will have 1.5 GHz clock speed. Using quad core processor makes sense for Samsung as other handset makers such as HTC have also begun using quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 processors.

The handset may come with an improved GPU (graphics processing unit) which will perform five times better than the earlier Mali graphics processor. The device is also likely to have flexible OLED (organic light emitting diode) screens which use less power and are thinner than the usual LCD screens.

It is expected that the user interface of the device would be TouchWiz UI, because the usual Android UI now anyway has many features which are offered by TouchWiz also.

Realizing the increasing popularity of social networking, Airtel offers free access to Twitter for the first time in India. Airtel users can now access twitter free of cost from their mobile phones.

In May 2010, Facebook had teamed up with 50 mobile service providers to offer the social networking website to the users with no charges applied. Again in July 2011, Facebook offered free data access for the ‘Every Phone Java’ app for 90 days to 20 service providers including four from India- Airtel, Aircel, reliance and Idea.

According to N Rajaram, Chief Marketing Officer-Consumer Business, Bharti Airtel, “today’s Indian customer are now relying more on mobile device for accessing everything from emails to music to social networks. With the new trend, Airtel introduces 90 days free access to twitter for its users in India. More than 170 million Airtel users can now enjoy twitter on their mobile phones. Airtel always provide innovative experiences which are appropriate for their customers.”

This offer will be available to more than 170 million Airtel subscribers in India. With these the users can post their tweets, browse Twitter trends, current news and also can follow their friends and celebrities for free. To get free access to twitter, the users have to visit mobile.twitter.com and can sign up through their mobile number. To receive updates, they have to SMS ‘follow’ to 53000 and can follow others on twitter if they don’t have any twitter account of their own. Without any GPRS activated, the users will receive twitter updates in their phones via SMS. This offer is valid till 1^st March 2012.

3. Connect your new iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S to iTunes (on the same computer you used to back up your current iPhone).

4. iTunes will ask you if you want to restore from a backup or set up your new iPhone as a new phone. When prompted, select the backup of your current iPhone. If iTunes does not prompt you to select a backup to restore when you connect your new iPhone, use iTunes to restore iOS on your new iPhone and try this step again.

5. After iTunes finishes restoring the backup you selected to your new iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S, the iPhone will restart.

Fuhu, a U.S. based company, launched Nabi, the world’s first ever Android tablet with features especially for kids.The device features a front facing camera, a 1.1 GHZ Cortex A9 CPU, a PowerVR SGX530 3D graphics processor and has a 1080p HDMI display for video playback. Fuhu claims the tablet features various pre-loaded apps including music, games and books worth $150.

The tablet can be beneficial in terms of education because apart from games, it also has e-books and a ‘math learning program’, which can easily be downloaded from the Nabi App store. The ‘mommy mode’ in the device enables parents to use the tablet and browse the web without restrictions.

Robb Fujioka, Founder and President of Fuhu illustrated Nabi as an Android tablet with all features that one can think of. Right from touchscreen, WiFi, gaming, app stores, e-books - a tablet has it all, but within a boundary as it’s especially designed for kids.

With a limited availability in U.S. territories, the device can be pre-ordered only at Toys R Us with an estimated shipping date of 12-01-2011. The device is priced at $199.99.
