Old friends (and exes) Sam and Kelly reunite to talk our ears off and dish before lunch.

Kelly Lester is an actress, singer and "juggler":
During the last two decades she has also been an entrepreneur, wife, and mother of three.

A graduate of UCLA's theatre department, Kelly has appeared in dozens of plays and musicals in the Los Angeles area and on the east coast. Early work includes The Fantasticks opposite Tony-award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell and Grease, directed by Tony-award nominee Scott Ellis and choreographed by Tony-award winner Susan Stroman.

Kelly left show business for almost twelve years to run her own highly-successful gift manufacturing business and raise her three young daughters. Her handcrafted home décor items were sold in hundreds of museum stores across the country.

After selling that business in 2006, Kelly defied the old adage that 'there are no second acts'. Since returning to performing, she has appeared in a number of films, TV shows, commercials, and stage productions.

Kelly appears with symphony orchestras as a guest soloist (most recently in an evening devoted to the music of Richard Rodgers) and has played lead roles in world premieres of a number of new musicals.

In her spare time, she enjoys listening to obscure musicals and has an obsession with graphic design (especially fonts). When not in front of the computer, Kelly can be found in the kitchen preparing healthy lunches and dinners for her family (though she hates to cook.) In addition to performing, she is the creator and CEO of EasyLunchboxes.com, helping families everywhere pack their lunch boxes fast, healthy, & green.

Sam Harris' career has spanned more than two decades in the public eye and run the gamut from singer/songwriter to stage, film, television actor to writer, producer, director. Born in Oklahoma, Sam performed in his first play when he was five and was known to jump on any makeshift stage, be it a wooden crate or a dining room table, and belt out a tune.

He left home at the age of 15 to pursue his career and received the Frank Sinatra Pop Singing Award where the legendary Chairman of the Board said to an enthusiastic audience, "This kid's got `it'! Sam, don't get any better till I get out of the business."

Sam became a household name on Star Search in its premiere season as the grand champion. Millions of viewers tuned in each week to follow him as he created his own pop, gospel and theatre brand of emotionally charged performances.

Broadway called and Sam moved to New York, where he received a Drama Desk nomination for his role in Tommy Tune's Grease. He stared in the Broadway National tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, where sales records were broken all over the country. Sam also starred in Cy Coleman's The Life, for which he received the Drama-League Award as well as Tony, Outer Critic's Circle and Drama Desk nominations. Sam was to star in The Jazz Singer, playing the legendary Al Jolson, known as "the greatest entertainer in the world." Sam was clearly in a new league when the New York Times remarked, "Who else could play this role? Sam Harris is the only performer today whose charisma and raw magnetism is absolutely Jolson-esque." While he continued to tour nationally, Sam also co-produced the television special "Love Letter to New York" and supervised and arranged several songs and supervised segments of "Michael Jackson's 30 Year Anniversary Special". He is now back in Los Angeles however he returned to New York in Mel Brook's smash hit The Producers on Broadway.

Sam appeared on shows such as Arsenio Hall, The Joan Rivers Show, Merv Griffin, Geraldo, American Bandstand, Soul Train, The Tonight Show, The Today Show, Rosie, The View, Barbara Walters Show, and many more. Sam also performed a stirring "You'll Never Walk Alone" on The Oprah Winfrey Show in the week following September 11th, 2001.

Sam now balancing his roles as father, husband, actor, recording artist, writer and all around entertainer. He recently completed a recurring role on "Rules of Engagement," an appearance on "Tyra" about marriage rights, created an original role in the musical "The First Wives Club," and is currently developing a television series and the now, re-ignited musical in which he stars as the darkly complex and charismatic Al Jolson, while he continues to perform in concert all over the country.

"Too Much, Too Little, Too Late" is a song performed by singers Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams. Released as a single in 1978, it reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop chart, number nine on the Canadian Singles Chart and number three on the UK Singles Chart. It also topped the US R&B and adult contemporary charts. The duo released a follow-up duet, "You're All I Need to Get By", peaking at number 47 on the Hot 100. The single was a comeback of sorts for Mathis as it was his first number one since his chart-topping hit, 1957's "Chances Are". The success of the duet with Williams prompted Mathis to record duets with a variety of partners including Dionne Warwick, Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight, and Nana Mouskouri. A compilation album also called Too Much, Too Little, Too Late released by Sony Music in 1995 featured the title track among other songs by the duo.

Proposition 8 was a California ballot proposition that sought to change the California Constitution to add a new section (7.5) to Article I, that would read: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." This change would restrict the definition of marriage to opposite-sex couples, and eliminate same-sex couples' right to marry, thereby overriding portions of the ruling of In re Marriage Cases by "carving out an exception to the preexisting scope of the privacy and due process clauses" of the state constitution. As of November 2009, when legislation legalizing same-sex marriage in Maine was defeated by referendum, same-sex marriage had been defeated in all 31 states in which it had been directly put to a popular vote.

To qualify for the ballot, Proposition 8 needed 694,354 valid petition signatures, equal to 8% of the total votes cast for governor in the November 2006 General Election. The initiative proponents submitted 1,120,801 signatures, and on June 2, 2008, the initiative qualified for the November 4, 2008 election ballot through the random sample signature check.

On July 16, 2008, the California Supreme Court denied a petition calling for the removal of Proposition 8 from the November ballot. The petition asserted the proposition should not be on the ballot on the grounds it was a constitutional revision that only the Legislature or a constitutional convention could place before voters. Opponents also argued that the petitions circulated to qualify the measure for the ballot inaccurately summarized its effect. The court denied the petition without comment. As a general rule, it is improper for courts to adjudicate pre-election challenges to a measure's substantive validity. The question of whether Proposition 8 is a constitutional amendment or constitutional revision was ruled on by the California Supreme Court on May 26, 2009, and found that it was not a revision and therefore would be upheld. They also declared that the same-sex marriages performed prior to the passing of Prop 8 would remain valid.

WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR.

I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR is a song by rock band U2. The second track from their 1987 album The Joshua Tree, it was released as the album's second single in May 1987. The song is influenced by gospel music and its lyrics describe spiritual yearning.

The song became the band's second number-one single on the US Billboard Hot 100, after the album's first single, "With or Without You". "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" peaked at number-six on the UK Singles Chart the Dutch Top 40. It was named the 93rd greatest song by Rolling Stone on their list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" originated from a demo variously titled "The Weather Girls" and "Under the Weather" that the band recorded in a jam session. Bassist Adam Clayton called the demo's melody "a bit of a one-note groove", while an unconvinced The Edge, the band's guitarist, compared it to "'Eye of the Tiger' played by a reggae band". However, the band liked the drum part played by drummer Larry Mullen, Jr. Co-producer Daniel Lanois said, "It was a very original beat from Larry. We always look for those beats that would qualify as a signature for the song. And that certainly was one of those. It had this tom-tom thing that he does and nobody ever understands. And we just didn't want to let go of that beat, it was so unique." Lanois encouraged Mullen to continue developing the "weird drum pattern" beyond the demo.

I'M STILL HERE is more than just a show-stopping number in Stephen Sondheim's Follies. It is a cultural roadmap of the American fads, media darlings, politics, and excess of the last century.

Carlotta Campion has been through it all, and she has been brought to life by such great ladies of the stage as Yvonne De Carlo, Nancy Walker, Carol Burnett, Shirley MacLaine, and Ann Miller. Told by a character who has "seen it all", and sung by an Actress whose actual life adds reality and resonance, if it has been cast well, this song strikes a chord with every audience member.

Those who have "been there" a bit themselves can identify, full of the knowledge that they, too, are "still here". Those who are too young to have gone through the mill themselves can still admire the guts and determination of someone who has, and has lived to tell about it - to sing about it - with electrifying passion. Unfortunately, as time marches on, there are less and less people who understand the references in the lyrics - it has become a bit of a trivia game to get them all.

Yet understanding them gives the listener added depth and context that make it worth the hunt. So, to help out, I've assembled a breakdown of the sometimes obscure references in I'm Still Here.

Sam catches up with the vlog people after a run of First Wives Club vlogs, and starting to recover from knee surgery.

Sam is currently traveling back and forth to Broadway as part of the redevelopment of the Al Jolson musical project, which is expected to be called "Jolie".

Al Jolson (May 26, 1886 October 23, 1950) was an American singer, comedian, and actor. According to PBS, he is considered the "first openly Jewish man to become an entertainment star in America".[1] His career lasted from 1911 until his death in 1950, during which time he was commonly dubbed "the world's greatest entertainer.

His performing style was brash and extroverted, and he popularized a large number of songs that benefited from his "shamelessly sentimental, melodramatic approach".[2] Numerous well-known singers were influenced by his music, including Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, and Bob Dylan, who once referred to him as "somebody whose life I can feel".[3]

In the 1930s he was America's most famous and highest paid entertainer.[4] Between 1911 and 1928, Jolson had nine sell-out Winter Garden shows in a row, more than 80 hit records, and 16 national and international tours. Yet he's best remembered today for his leading role in the first (full length) talking movie ever made, The Jazz Singer, released in 1927. He starred in a series of successful musical films throughout the 1930s. After a period of inactivity, his stardom returned with the 1946 Oscar-winning biographical film, The Jolson Story. Larry Parks played Jolson with the songs dubbed in with Jolsons real voice. A sequel, Jolson Sings Again, was released in 1949, and was nominated for three Oscars. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Jolson became the first star to entertain troops overseas during World War II, and again in 1950 became the first star to perform for GIs in Korea, doing 42 shows in 16 days.

According to the St. James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture, "Jolson was to jazz, blues, and ragtime what Elvis Presley was to rock 'n' roll". Being the first popular singer to make a spectacular "event" out of singing a song, he became a rock star before the dawn of rock music. His specialty was building stage runways extending out into the audience. He would run up and down the runway and across the stage, "teasing, cajoling, and thrilling the audience", often stopping to sing to individual members, all the while the "perspiration would be pouring from his face, and the entire audience would get caught up in the ecstasy of his performance".

He enjoyed performing in blackface makeup a theatrical convention in the early 20th century. With his unique and dynamic style of singing black music, like jazz and blues, he was later credited with single-handedly introducing African-American music to white audiences. As early as 1911 he became known for fighting against anti-black discrimination on Broadway. Jolson's well-known theatrics and his promotion of equality on Broadway helped pave the way for many black performers, playwrights, and songwriters, including Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, and Ethel Waters.

Al Jolson was born as Asa Yoelson in Seredžius, Lithuania, then a part of the Russian Empire, the fourth child of Moses Reuben Yoelson and his wife Naomi. His siblings were Rose, Etta, Hirsch (Harry), and a sister who died in infancy. Moses Yoelson moved to the United States in 1891, and was able to find a job as a rabbi and cantor at the Talmud Torah Synagogue in the Southwest Waterfront neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Three years later, his family would join him.
