The Katana is a 3D capable sport plane designed to make the transition from sport models to more challenging 3D aircraft a lot less demanding. The design concept stems from the Tech One Venus. Its large wing area and light wing loading offer very forgiving flight characteristics, especially in slow flight. It’s also compatible with a range of motor and propeller sizes so you can fine tune the power and performance to your skill level. Experienced 3D pilots will appreciate the uniquely designed Katana and its in flight behavior. It is suitable for outdoor or indoor flying since the large control surfaces allow for precise control in high-alpha flight. It is capable of sport to the most extreme 3D aerobatics. Servos have a resolution of 1024 points per 60 degrees of rotation. That means although even when moving the stick slowly servos look fluid in motion they are actually only able to stop at one of these points. They look fluid because of the high resolution. This is the reason you don’t want to run low percentage ATV or D/R settings. You would end up with a control surface that has very low resolution. This would make the control surface less fluid in motion (more jumpy) and also less accurate all round including centering.

Unfortunately, just like regular FM broadcast radio, these RC systems require a frequency all to themselves if they're going to avoid interference with each other. What's more, it doesn't take much to disrupt a regular narrow-band signal. A noisy thermostat or electric drill can often cause massive amounts of electrical interference when listening to an AM broadcast and FM isn't always that much better.
Turbine jets are not for the novice as the turbines and electronics require maintenance and a knowledge of how to maintain them. Also these type of jets are pricy and need skill to fly them. There is also a danger if anything goes wrong as they use A1 jet fuel.

However if you are wanting to fly rc jets there is another type of jet called an Electric Ducted Fan jet (EDF jet). EDF jets are easier to fly and don’t need much maintenance and is not as complicated as a turbine, and are also capable of performing advanced manoeuvres. EDF’s in general are smaller jets, but are extremely powerful. The power unit consists of a fan rotor with various blades know as an impeller, rotating at impressive RPM (revs per minute). Since the impeller spins at a very fast speed, air is sucked in through the intake of the unit and pushed out through the back, which is coned shaped thus producing loads of thrust allowing the jet to fly very fast. The air intake funnel and the outlet funnel or tube are very important as a combination because this is what produces the thrust.

A very good guide would be that the air intake should be no smaller then 80% the diameter of the fan and no larger then the size of the fan. If you are using a two intake design you can figure out how big the intakes have to be by dividing the fan diameter by two then multiplying it by 3.14 (pi). For example a 60mm fan, 60/2=30 and 30 X 3.14=94.2, now 94.2mm is the outside circumference of the fan unit. So we divide 94.2 by 2 = 47.1 this is the max size for each of the two intakes. This gives you the maximum size to find the minimum just multiply 94.2 by .8 “80%” = 75.36.mm. It is a good idea to have a filter of sorts on the intake because if little stones or other objects go through the air intake and into the impeller, lots of damage can be done. This would be if you are building your own EDF, but there are many different type of ARF (Almost Ready to Fly) jets available on the internet that fly superbly and are available in foam or composite.

If you want to find out more about rc jets go to this website here: RC Universe
