light meal for the hot summer

2013-01-16T20:11:00.001+11:00

Sydney was up to 43 degrees the other day, the third highest temperature on record. Kid and I were very exhausted, so we stayed at home to avoid the heat. We didn't have much appetite, but EATING it often can help strengthen the digestive system, relieve vomiting, nourish blood and energy. So, with the food I had in the fridge, I came up with these 3 simple meals.

Brunch, Vietnamese roll bread + mix vegetable salad + smoke salmon + mayonnaise.

Afternoon Tea, tropical fruit salad + wafer crispbread + kangaroo island honey with fig ice-cream.

Dinner, the left over Rillauds Angevins + potatoes.

It's easy, tasty and low cost.

This year I try to eat healthy and be healthy!

GOODBYE 2012, HELLO 2013

2013-01-02T01:39:00.000+11:00

Yep, that's right! After two years and six months of searching, we have finally found our dream house/apartment. This new place has huge open plan living, dining and kitchen. It is twice bigger than the apartment I had back in Japan. The location is perfect! It is literally accross road from a shopping center. Transport, schools, parks are also near by. What more can I ask for?

Mushroom Garden

2012-04-19T22:14:00.002+10:00

Back to the Roots | Mushroom Garden

I am a mushroom lover, especially Oyster Mushroom. Recently, I have thought about having my own mushroom garden and when I saw this grow-at-home mushroom kit from the blog How About Orange, I just knew that I needed to get one! I searched the internet and found out that the company Back to the Roots is located in the US. ha...

"Maybe I can get something similar here!", so I started to search the words " Mushroom Kit Australia" on Google. There are few companies selling mushroom kit in Australia, but those kits are expensive and the designs of the packages aren't very attractive (it's important). Since I can't get the same product here, I should immigrate to the US?! just kidding...

My Cowboy "Woody"

2011-09-12T23:59:00.001+10:00

Here comes my handsome cowboy...

It's Katsu's first Book Week* Festival. He attended the school even he had 38 degrees fever (he insisted, but I didn't let him stay long).

*"Book Week", the longest running children's festival in Australia. Each year, many schools from all over the country spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators.

"Police is going to take me away..."

2011-08-20T16:11:00.003+10:00

Katsu: Mama.... I don't want to go (sob)

Me: What's the matter?! Why are you crying?

Katsu: I don't want to go (sob sob)

Me: Go?! Go where? Where are you going?

Katsu: Police is going to take me away..wa~~ !!

Me: Police? Tell mummy, did you do anything bad?

Katsu: I sit in jiji*'s car, jiji has a driver licence, nana has a driver licence, mama has a driver lience, but katsu doesn't have a driver licence.. If I don't have a licence, Police will take me away (sob).... I don't want to go to police station(sob sob)

Me: Okay, okay. How about this...I'll make you a driver licence, so police won't take you away :)

*JIJI = 「ジジ」, means GRANDPA in Japanese.

I made a New "Shouth" Wales Driver Licence....(^0^) hahah

So, here is the Driver Licence that I made for my son. It was almost the same as the real one! Katsu was so happy, he brought his new licence to school the next day and proudly showed it to his teachers and friends. All teachers laughed and yelled up "What a great job, Mum!".

Mission: success! b(^_^)

Late Nite Post...

2011-08-18T10:32:00.001+10:00

It's 3:24am, the sky is still dark. I can hear the rain pounding on my window. Another cold rainy day in Sydney...

I haven't been able to sleep well since my son Katsu is suffering from "Atopic Eczema" 「アトピー性湿疹」. Yes, we have finally found out the THING that causes his skin problem.

Atopic Eczema is an inflammation of the skin which tends to flare-up from time to time. It usually starts in early childhood. - Patient.co.uk

I have been told that there is no 'cure', but some children with atopic eczema 'grow out of it' by their teens. To help prevent inflammation developing, you need to help your kid to:

1. Cut nails once, twice a week. / ネイルは一週間一回、二回を切る
2. Take quick shower within 5 minutes. / シャワー 5分以内終了
3. Use SOAP-FREE product to wash body. / アルカリ溶液が使われていない石鹸を使って、身体を洗う
4. Apply moisturizing cream on skin all the time. (eg. QV Cream) / いつもモイスチャークリームを使う

Katsu's skin is getting much better, but he still scratches a lot at night. It is very hard to tell a 4 years old kid not to scratch, so me, the poor mummy has to wake up every night checking on her son and comfort him when he cries...

Well, I need to catch up some sleep. Good night!

Happy Birthday to YOU and ME

2011-07-19T23:55:00.001+10:00

Thank you to all my friends and family for the sweet messages, emails and phone calls. Yesterday was AMAZING!

Kid and I celebrated our birthday together since we were both born in July. We had delicious chocolate ice cream in the morning, enjoyed Japanese Ramen for lunch and spent lots of time shopping in our favourite shops! I got myself a cute mousepad from the newest stationery shop called TYPO and bought my son a new TOMICA Town from BIG W. My parents brought me a red FURLA wallet back from their trip in Europe, it really surprised me!

We joined our friends at the beach in the afternoon. The weather was so nice and we all stayed until the sun came down. Dinner was my mum's delicious homemade dishes. There was no dessert, but my son made two small birthday cakes with his nano block and sang me a "happy birthday" song last night. It was something that I'll never forget.

FELICE with love

nano block

2011-06-23T09:58:00.002+10:00

Kid and I spent a night making "Tokyo Tower" with these miniature blocks called nano block, the smallest block in the world (4x4 mm)!

The first nano block that I bought was Cinderella Castle set from Tokyo Disneyland for JAP￥1400. Disney edition nano block was supposed to be found only in Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea, but now you can get them from Amazon or eBay! Isn't that wonderful?

via Amazon.co.jp

We also have this Standard Color Set with 1100 pieces. There is no instruction in the box, but you can get it free by visiting nano block's blog (eg. Tokyo Tower --> Click HERE!).
