Well, for the first time in a while, it seems as if I'm not the only one. Reports are coming in this morning that Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld is openly questioning China's defense spending. Specifically, Rumsfeld wonders why China is spending three times more on national defense than what it previously said it would. When asked about the problem, Rumsfeld says what many Americans have been thinking:

"I think it's interesting that other countries wonder why they would be increasing their defense effort at the pace they are and yet not acknowledging it. That is as interesting as the fact that it's increasing at the pace it is."

While these comments do much to demonstrate the awareness of the Bush Administration, this blogger can only hope that this administration is doing all it can to prepare for the looming China threat. Instead of explain how ridiculous this non-story is, I will tell you that no answers or questions were given to the troops ahead of time. The only things "staged" prior to the President's attendance in the teleconference was the placement of microphones and the confirmation of what soldiers were responsible for answering questions, based on their experience and subject knowledge. Fortunately, my fellow bloggers have done an amazing job of explaining the idiocy and hypocrisy behind this claim by the left. Yawn...will they ever understand that this stuff just doesn't work?

Original story of "staged" teleconference

As usual, Michelle Malkin does her duty

Publius Rendezvous explains the hypocrisy behind the left

Wow...

What else could I name a post that deals with one of the "dumbest" moves by professional athletes. Last Thursday, during the Minnesota Vikings' bye week, approximately 17 players organized a lake cruise turned sex party. According to officials, the party became so out of control that crew members on the two yachts were offered money for sex and feared for their safety. Now here at Right Field, we are well aware of the poor decisions athletes make. However, this one actually sets a new standard. Congratulations, Minnesota Vikings!

Vikings throw sex party

Weekend Thoughts (3rd edition)

Like usual, here are my random thoughts on the weekend:

To the Atlanta Braves...thanks for playing...now go back to Atlanta for the 10th straight year. Looking back on my previous column congratulating the Braves...can I take that back and ask if there is anyway we can put the Braves in the AL East? Keeping them out of the playoffs would save on team travel expenses.

To the Yankees...don't make me turn against you, either.

Great job, Penn State! Only a few more overrated Big Ten teams left, and you will be all set to get annihilated in a BCS game. Congrats!

I can't help but feel sorry for Alabama. One week after one of the biggest victories in school history, and the sports media has already forgotten about you in terms of SEC/National Championship picture.

Would anyone dare bet on NFL games anymore this season?

Tom Brady: 22/27, 350 yds (13 avg), and 3 touchdowns against a top passing defense. Not bad for a "system quarterback", a "dink and dunker", or anything else that the Brady haters try to claim.

On that same note, Matt Schaub: 298 yds and 3 touchdowns against a determined Pats defense. Not that anyone would dare commit blasphemy against Almighty Michael Vick, but him leading the Falcons' offense was a breath of fresh air, ESPECIALLY considering it was his first start.

Watching the Packers and the Saints gave me ulcers. Would you know that by listening to media reports? Of course not. To let you see for yourself how special this speech was, I'll post some highlights below, as well as the full transcript. My only regret with this speech is that more people didn't hear it. If President Bush made this message loud and clear, support for the War on Terror would double!

"Our goal is to defeat the terrorists and their allies at the heart of their power. However, for those of you who listened and watched, as a kid, Michael Eisner's introductions of Disney movies, then this is certainly the "end of an era." This past week, not only did Michael Eisner resign as CEO of The Walt Disney Company, but as of yesterday, also stepped down as a member of the board of directors. While this annoucement spells good news for Disney, the downfall of Michael Eisner is a sad one. If I can compare it to sports, it is like the professional athlete who simply doesn't know when his time has come (i.e. Jerry Rice, Brett Favre, etc). Hopefully, though, both Michael Eisner and Disney will find greener pastures ahead...

Eisner severs all ties to Disney

Iger promoted to CEO

I'm Not Surprised...

In what is a new low for Red China, reports are coming in that the communist country is now in the market of body parts from aborted babies and unclaimed dead prisoners. In all honesty, while everything but random league championships and the World Series bore me to tears, I can't help but remain intrigued over the matchups in this year's playoffs. While you know my thoughts on the Braves' chances, I can't help but wonder if a team like the Cardinals or Yankees will actually play to their potential. What about the Padres? Could we see them be this year's Cinderella team? I guess we'll have to see. As for me, here are my humble picks:

ALDS:
Yankees in 4 over the Angels
White Sox in 5 over the Red Sox

ALCS
Yankees in 6 over the White Sox

NLDS:
Astros in 4 over the Braves
Cardinals in 3 over the Padres

NLCS:
Cardinals in 7 over the Astros

World Series:
Cardinals in 7 over the Yankees (surprised you, didn't I?)

Of course, I will qualify my prediction by saying if the Cardinals play like they have the last 15-20 games, instead of the beginning of the season, they can forget it.

I Give Up!!

Welcome to the Bush White House, where catering to the losing party is the name of the game. Now before I get the "calm down, trust President Bush" or better yet, the "don't react so quickly" response, let me first say that life, and especially politics, is ALL about reaction. It is what makes us function as humans and exist in society. So don't give me the "anti-reaction" speech. Don't give me the "trust President Bush" speech, either. I do trust President Bush. That is why I am hurt today, because I simply don't understand the logic in nominating Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court. Why? That, of course, is always the question. My initial reaction is that this choice was made of absolute fright and weakness. Why else would President Bush bypass a dozen other qualified, conservative judges? However, my thoughtful reaction is that I hope President Bush knows something about Miers that I don't. Whatever the case, I just hope this pick is worth it. If not, then President Bush has completely demoralized his base (the ones that voted for him, I might add) for NOTHING! As for me, I'll continue to dream about Janice Rogers Brown.

The Big Gamble

An unique view of Miers

Rush's reaction

Publius Rendezvous provides excellent commentary

Weekend Thoughts (2nd edition)

What didn't happen this weekend? Like last Monday, here are my random thoughts on the weekend:

The transformation from the "Mighty Florida Gators coached by the impressive, dominating Urban 'football is easy' Meyer" to "an overrated, plagued by injuries Florida Gators coached by the inexperienced Urban Meyer" was one of the most obvious anti-Alabama rants by CBS college football staff I have ever witnessed. I guess Alabama taking a top 5 team behind the woodshed has that effect on people.

Tyrone Prothro's leg/ankle injury was one of the most disturbing moments I have ever witnessed.

I think it's funny how USC spots teams 21 points before trying. Whatever gives you motivation, I guess.

The NFL has become completely unpredictable.

ESPN believes Peyton Manning can walk on water...I'm convinced. Meanwhile, Tom Brady continues to win championships (screw the Chargers).

I'll say again...does anyone care about major league baseball right now?

The Braves enter their final week of the season...sorry, I couldn't resist.

Most current Republicans in office have no guts.

Hmm....who would be the best Supreme Court Justice nominee..."ooh ooh, I know, how about a career lawyer who donated money to the Democrats during the Reagan years?"(Harriet Myers). The first, Roy Jones Jr. with his lackluster, indifferent performance against Antonio Tarver on Saturday night (boxing, for those that care). The second, and most painful, President Bush for refusing to act like the President with a majority Senate and House of Representatives behind him.

Oh well, here is to a new week...

AMEN!!

This post will be short, but nonetheless, I wanted to be sure and point out Ann Coulter's column this week. Wow! She basically writes what many Conservatives have been screaming for the last few years. The simple premise revolves around the fact that Republicans still act like the minority party, although that hasn't been the case in over a decade. Why do we continue to cater to the fringe left? Why are we so worried about gaining favor with the Washington Post and New York Times? Like many of you, I can't help but remain frustrated. However, one can only hope that with a few years remaining, President Bush and other Republican leaders will turn up the heat. I'll be sure to hold my breath.

Ann Coulter's "Bob Shrum With a Good Cause"

Best. Are you kidding me? That is almost as bad as me playing MLB 05' on PlayStation and winning nine World Series in a row with the Yankees. 14 division titles? Again, what an unbelievable statistic! In case you didn't know, the last time the Braves lost the division, President Bush was in office...that's right, the first one! When it comes to this year's team, I don't even know where to start. Do we talk about the consistency of Bobby Cox and Leo Mazzone (although they coach the postseason with their hands around their throat)? Do we mention how the Braves broke a MLB record by using 17 rookies in the starting lineup this year? Do we analyze the revival of Andruw Jones? Either way you look at it, the Braves are a special team and organization. What they've done this year is nothing short of spectacular. It's just too bad they'll be watching the World Series from home again this year.

Braves win 14th straight

Cox rolls

Mazzone rocks

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://intherightfield.blogspot.com/2005/09/best-streak-ever.html' title='Best. I realize that I'm a day late and dollar short on posting this story, but at first I wanted to refrain from giving Sheehan what she wants...attention from the media and the blogosphere. However, after reading a Sheehan related post from fellow blogger, Publius Rendezvous, I knew I couldn't stand by and let her get away with this. Instead, though, what I can do is let everyone I know see how ridiculous Cindy Sheehan and the liberal circus has become. I could attempt to tell you, but instead I'll let columnists and fellow bloggers do it for me.

Actual AP article

Michelle Malkin illustrates the irony of protesters

Publius Rendezvous skillfully analyzes and gives additional sources

The Right Track has a flashback

Excuse Me?

Well, for those of you with common sense, the fact that Red China has imposed new restrictions on "internet news" should not surprise you. After all, this is the same country that monitors text messaging throughout the country. However, what should surprise you is something Hillary Clinton said in 1998 concerning this topic. Because of my age, I probably wasn't paying attention at the time, but thanks to the Drudge Report, we are reminded of the communist thoughts of a potential U.S. President. When pressed for thoughts on the internet, Clinton states "we are all going to have to rethink how we deal with" the Internet because of the handling of White House sex scandal stories on Web sites. Hmm...is this who we want leading our country in a few years? I know for most of you, the answer is a big NO. However, one can't help but think of some of the ignorant people in this country. Will they make someone like Clinton the "Leader of the Free World"? We can only hope not.

China sets new rules on Internet news

Hillary Clinton tends to agree?

Weekend Thoughts (1st edition)

Since I am usually unable to post on the numerous happenings over the weekend, I am going to start something new here at Right Field: Weekend Thoughts. Former lightweight world champion died Thursday, just 5 days after defending his lightweight title against Jesus Chavez. As usual, people are defending Johnson's death as just the nature of the sport. Unfortunately, I refuse to believe that DEATH should be the nature of ANY sport. I will not settle for that! Instead, people involved in the sport should take measures to see that this type of thing rarely happens (BTW, Johnson's death is the second in Las Vegas this year, and fifth total). Read the parenthesis again!

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I want boxing to become a "civilized" sport. I love boxing because of the violent characteristics it possesses! However, in the Johnson fight, the doctor at ringside was a female......attending her FIRST MATCH! So naturally, not knowing a thing about boxing, and not understanding the term "out on his feet", the doctor allowed the match to continue in the late rounds, after the damage to Johnson was quite apparent. If that wasn't bad enough, the referee let Johnson "convince" him into not stopping the match. Both of these occurrences are ridiculous! Boxing should take a hard look at what went wrong in this match. Fortunately for them, these types of problems can be prevented with common sense.

Johnson dies from brain injury sustained in title fight

Love Him or Hate Him...

No matter how many of you cannot stand the guy, you have to give it up to Barry Bonds. Four homeruns in his last four games? That's nothing out of the ordinary, but you have to understand that this guy did not play in the first 142 games of the season! Before his comeback he had not faced major league pitching since September 2004! Love him or hate him, Barry Bonds is simply amazing. The so called Republican from Pennsylvania is now calling for a delay in the nomination of Justice O'Connor's replacement. His visionary reasoning is so the Senate can "get to know John Roberts a little better" in order to "make the next nomination easier." Who does this guy think he is at times? Did he, like other Republicans at times, forget that WE WON! Does he not realize that the American people have spoken loud and clear for over 10 years now? The people in this country expect a Supreme Court that models the people they elect to office! Thankfully, at least senators like Bill Frist are standing up for that fact. Sooner or later, though, senators like Arlen Specter, who are more worried about their reputation in the Washington Post than the interests of the people they represent, will one day feel the backlash of the voters. Just ask Senator Tom Das....what was his name again?

Senator Specter showcases for liberal media

Sad to Watch

Does anyone else feel sorry for the Mayor Nagin of New Orleans? After two weeks of the regular season, we have to sit and wonder...what do we know so far? Well, here is my top ten list:

1. As sad as it is, Brett Favre and the Packers are DONE!
2. Terrell Owens and Randy Moss are freaks of nature.
3. Peyton Manning responds to pressure as well as a newborn kitten.
4. The NFC North is as horrible as the NL West in baseball.
5. Carnell Williams is playing over his head (yeah, I said it), thanks to a briliant offensive line
6. Kurt Warner's deal with the devil has not been renewed.
7. Bill Cowher still frightens me.
8. Oakland Raider fans are not of this planet.
9. Michael Vick is only as good as ESPN tells us he is.
10. In fact, with stories like the one below, my inpatience and dislike only grows. The nerve of that country! Apparently, according to Japanese military officials, a team of Chinese warships were spotted near the Chunxiao gas field in the East China Sea — the site of a fierce Sino-Japan territorial dispute. If this holds true, it is further proof as to China's intentions over the next couple of decades. Those intentions in question are NOT PEACEFUL. If that wasn't bad enough, lets not forget that China is a country that has hated the United States for decades! I admit, it is difficult at times to watch an entire race, but if you want to be entertained, be sure to watch the first and last 20-30 laps of this weekend's race. You won't be disappointed. As far as the current standings, my favorite driver, Tony Stewart, is currently in the lead coming into "The Chase." Unfortunately, a fellow blogger's favorite driver......is not even in the playoffs (Jeff Gordon). But how can this be?? Doesn't everyone have money and a job in the socialist world? Why not? I thought socialism made life better for everyone? Free healthcare, shared wealth, utopia?
