The following text appeared in my inbox this evening. After reading it I knew I had to share it.

The average age of the military man is 19 years.
He is a short haired, tight-muscled kid who,
under normal circumstances is considered by
society as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a beer, but old enough to die for his country. He never really cared much for work and he would rather wax his own car than wash his father's, but he has never collected unemployment either.
He's a recent High School graduate; he was probably an average student, pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten year old jalopy, and has a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to be waiting when he returns from half a world away. He listens to rock and roll or hip-hop or rap or jazz or swing and a 155mm howitzer.
He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is working or fighting
from before dawn to well after dusk. He has
trouble spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him, but he can field strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark. He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade launcher and use either one effectively if he must.
He digs foxholes and latrines and can apply first aid like a professional.
He can march until he is told to stop,
or stop until he is told to march.
He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without spirit or individual dignity.
He is self-sufficient.
He has two sets of fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens full and his feet dry.
He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle.. He can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts.
If you're thirsty, he'll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his food. He'll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when you run low..
He has learned to use his hands like weapons
and weapons like they were his hands.
He can save your life - or take it, because that is his job.
He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay, and still find ironic humor in it all.
He has seen more suffering and death than he should have in his short lifetime.
He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat and is unashamed..
He feels every note of the National Anthem vibrate through his body while at rigid attention, while tempering the burning desire to 'square-away ' those around him who haven't bothered to stand, remove their hat, or even stop talking.
In an odd twist, day in and day out, far from home, he defends their right to be disrespectful.
Just as did his Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, he is paying the price for our freedom. Beardless or not, he is not a boy. He is the American Fighting Man that has kept this country free for over 200 years.
He has asked nothing in return, except
our friendship and understanding.
Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with his blood.
And now we even have women over there in danger, doing their part in this tradition of going to War when our nation calls us to do so.
As you go to bed tonight, remember this shot. . ...

Your family is going to need you men to lead. Don't take no for an answer when you suggest to your family to stock some non perishable foods.

This post appeared on THIS MESSAGE BOARD, and I wanted to share it.

Are you all aware that the VA is about to inflict even more red tape onto we veterans? As things stand now we go to our appointments, and then efficiently and conveniently make our next appointment(s) with a human being at the reception desk at our VA facility.

That is about to change/ and be automated. Unless numbers of veterans voice opposition to the announced impending new appointment plan, "Open Access Scheduling RECALL" we veterans are all in for major inconveniences, more than usual miscommunications and a wait for a letter then YOU make a telephone call for an appointment yourself scheduling plan.

Please telephone, write, e-mail, in person request that no change in the way we veterans make our appointments be made. Keep things the way they are for veterans, because it works just fine as it is.

Making an appointment with a human is the way to go rather than being sent letters and then having to go through a maze of "press 1, press 2, etc. in order to make an appointment through a call center located who knows where.

And what is to become of the men and women who currently have jobs at VA appointment desks, are most of their jobs going to get phased out?

I hope not!

If you are an American who has taken advantage of all the good things our nation has afforded us.

Even the less fortunate het bye pretty well here in the USA. If you're like me, you've been living your life with the knowledge and trust that our elected officials are doing the best job possible... for us.

I used to feel that way, until I had my eyes opened by Glenn Beck's show.

I've wathed his 'so called' crazy predictions regardidng a caliphate grasp, and the set up of Israel.. . I wathed him point out how A currency capitalist is orchestrating the, "managed decline of the dollar."

I've looked at Becks fact sources... he posts them on his web site... I've dont my homework... Beck is a patriot.

Now, he has predicted that chaos is coming here to the USA. And the Chaos is orchestrated by Unions, Radical religious fenatics, communists, socialists and marxists in an effort to cause Americans to seek stability.

The president is taking a power grab... in essense doing away with the war powers act. The president wants unlimited power to wage war!

We were shown how food production is being slowed by regulation, disasters, requiring food to be burned for fuel (corn), and more.

Now, we are told that a food shortage is coming, and we are being told by Beck to prepare.

Here's what I say: If you are not aware of these issues you MUST educate yourself.

This is important stuff and believe Beck is honest in his assment.

2011 Annual Armed Forces Day Crossband Test - Amateur Radio

Annual Armed Forces Day Crossband Test
for May 14

As part of the celebration of the 61 anniversary of Armed Forces Day (AFD), the U.S. Military Branches will be co-sponsoring this cross band test on May 14, even though the AFD is May, 21 this year.

The schedule for this test has been moved back a week due to the Dayton Hamvention.

From the ARRL website “The annual celebration features traditional military-to-amateur crossband communications SSB voice and Morse code tests. These tests give Amateur Radio operators and short wave listeners an opportunity to demonstrate their individual technical skills and to receive recognition from the Secretary of Defense and/or the appropriate military radio station for their proven expertise. QSL cards will be provided to those stations making contact with the military stations.”

* For each station, frequencies and times of Military-to-amateur crossband operations are listed in UTC.HERE.
* Voice ops will be SSB - voice.

* Propagation difficulties may cause some stations to shut down early.

* Participating military stations will transmit on selected military MARS frequencies,
and listen for Amateur Radio stations in the amateur bands.

* The military station operator will announce the specific amateur band frequency being monitored.

* Duration of each voice contact should be limited to 1-2 minutes.

This thing is WICKED! The guy said the round fired horizontally (parallel) with the ground, traveled 7Km before hitting the ground. He said it has a Mach 5 Velocity.

I am a prior U.S. Army Master Fitness trainer who can help you get ready for Basic training.

I can meet with you one-on-one, or as part of a group and help you condition for the rigors of Basic Training.

Sev¬eral news out¬lets have picked up on a report that troops may miss pay¬checks in a gov¬ern¬ment shut¬down. The reports are based on a 13-page DoD doc¬u¬ment which is being cir¬cu¬lated around the Pen¬ta¬gon. The doc¬u¬ment lays out a plan for deal¬ing with the shut¬down and includes details on how mil¬i¬tary pay may be dealt with.

But there are still con¬flict¬ing reports. For exam¬ple a recent Boston Globe arti¬cle lists all the areas of gov¬ern¬ment which have been exempt in the past. The list includes mil¬i¬tary pay.

My Comments:

This 'Report' sounds like a bit of political strategy to me.

The Republicans (Tea Party Republicans especially) ran on a platform of CUTTING SPENDING. If the Democrats dismiss the will of the people, THEY (the Democrats) will be responsible for shutting down the government.

Do I believe military people will stop being payed? I don't know... I would hope not, but it is possible.

Therefore, it is incumbant upon military members who have Democratic representatives to contact them voicing the desire for Democrats to get on board with the Republican spending cuts. That's right. The Republicans trounced the Democrats in November's election, so the Democrats should submit to their will.

Commission wants Women in Combat

A Pentagon commission is recommending that ground combat units be open to female troops, arguing women are already engaged in combat and that keeping them out of operational career fields puts them at a disadvantage when it comes to promotion.

My Comment:

I’ve had the privilege of working with women in the military. From a practical standpoint, women were very often a drag on my unit! They often getting out of field exercises because of medical issues (real and fabricated), being pregnant, and very often shirked their responsibilities simply because they weren’t strong enough to perform some of the tasks that male soldiers could perform without assistance.

If the reason for filling combat ranks with women is “promotion disadvantages”, that’s not a good enough reason for the change.
When my team (female included) lost a person, for any reason, it put a strain on those who remained.

The belief that males and females are equal on the battle field is a nice-trite-thought, but it simply isn’t true.

This is not to say that females in support positions cant, or don’t ever, kill the enemy… but they don’t… bullets do.

What happens to a female who has to resort to hand-to-hand combat? When she is killed, how will that effect the male soldiers in her unit? I think their effects would be different than if it was a male counterpart killed.
